My sister and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Based on the photos shown online, we decided to upgrade our room prior to our trip, so we could have an Ocean View. Despite the high amount we paid for this upgrade, our room had multiple leaks and floods, making it unlivable. We reported these floods multiple times, needing to leave the room each time to allow for time to fix it -- the first time it was fixed, and the second time it was not fixed and no update was provided. We returned to our room at midnight to an even worse flood. The hotel's solution was to "wait until morning because maintenance was not available." When we said this was not possible, they moved us to a much smaller room.
After moving to our new room, we continued to ask throughout the week -- via emails and in-person conversations -- to receive a refund for the upgrade we had pre-paid for. The hotel had still not compensated us for a no-show shuttle they arranged, when we arrived in Mexico; however, they kept promising the refund for both. We finally received a response from the concierge more than mid-way through our stay, when she personally came to our room to offer us a refund for the transportation and the upgraded room that flooded every day of our stay.
After expressing our gratitude for the refund, the concierge then asked if there was anything else they could do to make up for the trouble, offering us two free massages. Again, we thanked them. *On the morning we checked out, all staff -- including the one who had offered us the refunds -- denied any refund promises to be true.* We went back and forth with the staff for over an hour, and we could not even speak to a manager. Ultimately, we had to leave to catch our flight, at which point the staff promised again they would follow up once the manager arrived onsite. Since our departure, the only follow-up from Ana y Jose that has come has been continuous denial we were offered any sort of refund and an insistence that a refund is "simply not possible."
We have lost a significant amount of money to a horrible stay, not to mention the stress and frustration that comes with being lied to and dismissed after having multiple conversations about the many things that went wrong. Highly recommend finding another hotel to stay at during your visit to Tulum, which is a beautiful place. read more
