I absolutely love this store. My daughter got a couple of pins. I found a section of Hello Kitty stuff and found a shirt in my size. Score. I had some cash bucks that I wanted to use which saves me money when I spend literally so much at Hot Topic everywhere. I was actually satisfied with this location. A little more to choose from than other locations. It's a hit or miss sometimes. I was chatting with the guy at the cashier and he seemed nice. Great customer service from him. I would definitely come back to this location for stuff. The store was clean and organized. This store seemed bigger than other locations. There's so much merchandise in the store. I've always loved going into Hottopic and browsing the goodies :) But I was always interested in the merchandise that they only have on the online shop. Sometimes there are items that you can order and pick up at the store for free, but there is not always the size you want at the store. And for some reason there's no option to order and ship to Hawai'i...but there was this one item that I've been eyeing for awhile and so I asked the cashier if we could order this particular item and ship it to the store. They said you can ask them to order the item for you plus shipping is not the "Hawaii" shipping price if you order normally, which is great. They told me that the item I ordered will only take like a week... I understand that estimate was at the top of their head, but I was just glad to be able to order the item plus not pay like $20 for shipping. (It was about $8 shipping). And so I happily waited...and waited. The estimated shipping date kept changing. I knew that the shipping would take longer than usual, but at one point it said it would take a whole month to get to Hawaii! I'm like what?? And then it was in California for 3 whole working days...that was crazy. But it did take almost 3 weeks to arrive... I think I'll stick to browsing the store...but those sales online... :( read more

I drove to Ala Moana Shopping Center because Hot Topic at Windward Mall has closed... awww... Ala Moana Center has grown and become a maze. I had an idea of where Hot Topic was and I couldn't figure out where to park. I walked far... from Macy's... because I had free covered parking... Let's just say that I got my exercise for the day! Next time, I'll park more towards the middle of the shopping center... The inside of Hot Topic is filled with all kinds of stuff: t-shirts, costume jewelry, backpacks, socks, beanies, etc. I spent a lot of time looking at merchandise with characters such as Hello Kitty, Cooky from BT21, Totoro, Yoda from Star Wars, ChocoCat from Sanrio, Sailor Moon, and more! I almost got a sloth beanie and some fingerless gloves... however, these clearance items don't qualify for the 50 percent off coupon. I've been shopping at Hot topic for years. It felt like a family because of the alternative stuff they sell, but recently I have felt singled out in the store. One of these employees had been trying to get with me, buying me items from the store with their discount. I didn't like the relationship he was pressuring me into. Unfortunately, after it didn't pan out, I have become the subject of violating rumors from two employees, Micah and Mel. Due to that personal interest that these two have with me, these rumors have been shared between the stores, and to other customers. They have even been telling my friends who shop there, that they are trying to ban me from the store, even though it's been a hot minute since I had last gone in. Both these employees here are going against Code of Conduct and manipulating their personal benefits for their own self interests. This is clearly very unprofessional on their part. This experience has made me feel uncomfortable when I just want to shop in peace. After this experience, and the way these rumors have been spread I don't feel comfortable shopping at this store anymore. read more

Back in the day, Hot Topic seemed like one of those stores for kids who are emo and into rock or heavy metal music and possibly dealing with some teen angst issues. My friends always enjoyed going in, and I'd find nothing interesting and just stare at all the black and darkness. I have different tastes. I'm glad Hot Topic changed more into pop culture. It was wrestling in the mid 90s that brought me here buying t-shirts. Then video games, and now, Funkos. Hot Topic in Ala Moana Shopping Center has somewhat become a staple here as it's one of the stores that has stayed in the same spot and stayed exactly the same since last century. The staff here are always friendly and welcoming. They'll always tell you what the sales and discounts are. These past 15+ years, I'm usually buying gifts for friends and rarely for myself. Perhaps a Wresting t-shirt when WWE comes to Honolulu, or a cool, specific Hot Topic Special Funko. I do enjoy browsing around, and the black and darkness doesn't bother me now lol! read more

Apparently it's been 5 years since I wrote my review for Hot Topic (Ala Moana Shopping Center), so I'm due for an update: Hot Topic is always a family favorite because it appeals to the youngsters and the young-at-heart. If you take advantage of their deals (sales, hot cash, military discount, etc.) you can make out like a bandit. For example, today they had a buy one sale item and get two sale items free promo. We walked away with 3 hats/beanies, 3 blind bag figurines, 2 sleep/pajama sets and a throw blanket for around $45!!! Score!!! Customer service has always been good, but today the young lady helping us was exceptional. She hunted down items we asked for, answered our questions, informed us of the best deals, etc. Always a fun place to take the big kids an little kids. read more

If this review was based solely on customer service, it would be 5 stars. I've come to this location several times recently, and the current people working here are way more enthusiastic and helpful than staff at other HT locations I've been to. I'd specifically like to highlight this one employee who overheard me talking on the phone about a shirt I was looking for, and after I hung up, she stopped what she was working on and came right over to me to help me out. I didn't catch her name, but she had a cool flower tattoo on her shoulder and partially bleached hair. The two working at the registers when I came today;one had long hair and the other had red hair and cool eyeliner) were also both really sweet. The only reason I don't give Hot Topic 5 stars is because of their prices! I've been shopping at hot topic since 2016, and it's crazy how much prices have risen since then! Of course some of it is probably due to inflation, but $28 for a graphic tee seems kinda steep to me. I went there to return an item. Some people had to bring their pet dogs in the store. I'm allergic to animal dander. I can't believe they allowed these two women to bring their pet dogs into the store. I can understand animals that help with disabilities but these were obviously not therapy dogs. They had no vests on and were running around and pulling their leashes. Because the manager had no balls to kick these people out of the store, I had to stand outside to do a return and couldn't shop because of the animal dander. I was hoping to shop too. I'm very annoyed and upset by this entire situation. No pets allowed in the store and no exceptions. The whole store needs to be cleaned for dander. These women inconvenienced everyone else. It's bad enough stores have to be cleaned for Covid protocol but now they have to clean for animal dander. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to find myself so emersed into the atmosphere and the products as I don't usually shop at hot topic. There was a gentleman my the name of Xabien who just really showed compassion and enthusiasm as he answered all of my silly questions without faulted or any indications of being personally inconvenienced or annoyed. We totally nerded our together. He went above and beyond to do whatever it took to make my shopping experience the best it could be. He was knowledgeable on products and their cultural importance as it relates to their entertainment influences, and we shared a mutual interest as we were both the target audiences for the genre. And he was just great. Skylar then entered the scene with an equally matched enthusiasm and really was great. In tangent and as a team, they worked together to check me out and make sure I was in the know with any and all benefits that were available to me before checking me out and it truely was a positively memorable experience. Excellent customer service at this location! I ordered something online for pick up in store. A sales associate gave me a call in the morning stating my item was already ready to pick up. I appreciated that they also give you a call letting you know your item is ready. Anyway, as soon as I walked in the store, a sales associate greeted me and asked if I needed help with anything today. It was a super easy process - grabbed my item, signed for it, and left! Took less than 5 minutes. My sister wanted something from the store, so we circled back and browsed around for a bit. They were having a really amazing sale; 30% off the entire store (I think it was the entire store or at least majority of their items). She bought a figurine from the last air bender. The sales associate also showed us some more merchandise from the last air bender and we ended up getting another thing. Nice upsell! My family and I are avid Funko Pop collectors so we stopped by this location to check out what they had. If you're a collector, you know that the condition of the item matters. Taylor, Sed, and Pua were so awesome and went above and beyond to help my family and me find exactly what we were looking for (and then some!). This was by far the best customer service I have ever recieved at a Hot Topic location (they're all pretty great though). Hot Topic has definitely evolved over the years. Does anyone else remember when it looked like a dungeon in here, playing only hardcore ICP genre music? The chain has come a LONG way since, and they've definitely added more lighting to make shopping easier and welcome a larger market. As far as what the store carries, it's less about the music and more about trends. Before, you would only find band/rocker tee's along the wall. Now, Hello Kitty makes a few appearances, with other cute, brightly colored products, accessories, and make up. You can even find a nice selection of candy! I can't help but wonder what happened to all of the "scene" staff (with the huge mohawks, multiple piercings, crazy boots, punk/emo attire)? Where do they work now? Do they still look like that??? Came here specifically for some GOT merch! My coworker came in on a casual Friday rocking one of the t-shirts and I absolutely had to visit immediately. Two ladies were very helpful and friendly. Ugh, I just hate messing up nicely folded clothes, but each store folds it a particular way and I just cannot follow.. Both ladies were able to help me out with my questions. No fitting room unfortunately! Luckily there was a mirror in the back that I could quickly put on a T-shirt over. Got to make it work somehow. Although it was a bit tight at this location. With my pregnant belly maneuvering around the racks, I cannot imagine bringing my stroller in... Sailor moon selection was very minimal. The lady said they haven't gotten new merch in for awhile.. I understand, not that popular anymore.. lots of Dragon ball Z but none of which could fit my son.. I guess not all clearance items were labeled. I only needed to spend a couple bucks more for hot cash but I was in a rush and didn't want to wait in the line behind me.. During middle school my friends and I would always drop in. They had better products then (in my opinion). The most recent times I came by was during October, mostly for Halloween related items. I wanted something simple and to match with Jeremy since he was there. Easiest I figured would be superheroes. I didn't like the Captain America outfit, so ended up with Batman. Stood in line with my son for some limited edition Funko Pop. When the doors opened the girl at the door would let 1 maybe 2 people in at a time to make their purchase. So while we are standing outside I see her counting how many people are in line and her saying something to one of the guys at the front of the line. You would think if there was 20 Funko Pops and 40 people in line she could have told everyone at the beginning so people didn't waste their time standing in the sun. However as we all stood there a lady comes out of the store who was a customer in line and just let in the door they were SOLD OUT! So a customer had to tell the other customers and she was pissed because they had her go inside just to tell her there were no more. What was the point of making everyone outside wait when you knew how many you had in stock? I'm not sure if there was a limit of 1 per person but obviously nobody after 20 would get one so why make them wait? ZERO STARS for Customer Service! Would never waste my time again. read more

I was a total rocker chick with the patched-up backpack with novelty band pins, I wore band tee's and Tripp brand clothing (lol). When I used to dye my hair green, I would buy my dye here. I actually still have a lot of my clothes that still fit and that AFI patch stayed on my backpack all throughout college! Anyhow, Hot Topic has definitely changed over the years. They now have more of a variety... everything from Pokemon to Old school Nickelodeon to band tee's. My most recent favorites are their Miyazaki film & Harry Potter collections. I'm a total Potterhead and I'm a fan of My Neighbor Totoro, so I enjoy browsing these products. They also have a large selection of "Blind Bags." I pick up a Minion one from time-to-time as I am good with fondling the bag to get the one I want without totally messing up the packaging. Be sure to to sign up for the rewards program- it's free! The store associate at the front door enlisted the help of fellow associate Taylor to help us find the items that we needed. Taylor was terrific! He looked throughout the store to find the specific items we were looking for and even suggested alternative gift ideas for the items that weren't in stock. I have never had any bad experiences with ship to store orders until I shopped at Hot Topic. I came to the store on July 12, 2016 to look for a specific Five Nights at Freddy's backpack for my son. But out of my luck, they were sold out in store and everywhere else on the island. So the sales associate offered to order me the item and have it shipped to the store for free of charge. I was told that the order would come in about 3 weeks, so I waited patiently. 3 weeks passed, no email. 1 month passed, no email. I went to the store to check on my order status and they said that they would call customer service to check and will give me a call back. But I didn't receive any call back. After three months passed, I finally received an email from Hot Topic to let me know that the item has been shipped to the store and ready to be picked up. Since I work in the mall and I got off before closing, I went to head down to pick up my item. Come to find out again that it wasn't there!!! The system was not able to verify the order number or my contact info anymore. Maybe because it has been more than 4 months that have passed!!! So the associate offered to call customer service in the morning and check on my order and see if they got unpacked but I didn't receive any call from them at all. Frustrated, I went out of my way and called customer service myself. The waiting period sucked, I was on the line listening to the hold music for about an hour. But anyways, a kind man helped me with the process to verify if it got shipped to the store and it did. He offered to call the store and asked about the merchandise but it wasn't there. Instead, he again offered to ship it to my home but unfortunately it was out of stock. Lastly, he assured me that refunding my money would be the best way to solve this problem. I was a bit sad that I couldn't get him the backpack because he was so excited to have it. That backpack was supposed to be an early birthday gift for him to use for his first day back to school. Please don't offer to order an item for a customer if you can't even fulfill the order. I would have been more understanding if they had cancelled the order for me when it went out of stock instead of making me wait 4 f*cking months for a backpack! No customer service at all from the associates that helped me. I deserved an explanation but they failed to contact me. But kudos to the online customer service representative for going above and beyond to resolve this stressful situation of mines. Overall, I'll still be shopping at Hot Topic. When I walk into this store there is a teeny tiny voice in my head that whispers "evil". It used to be a blaring, loud voice that also assured me of demonic activity and never ending darkness, but that has mostly faded. Why? Because I grew up in a church that taught me to be afraid of everything that was not specifically Jesus Christ. SO. In college I abandoned my faith and embraced Hot Topic with all of my heart and bought crazy stilettos and lace-up dresses and Satan necklaces and wore it all to goth night where I looked , IMHO, hella cute in a weird, dark way. Ah, to be young. I even had a stamp card that I would fill out and use because I shopped there so much. Now I go into Hot Topic for my kids because it's sort of a dark kids store and they like it. Their items aren't the most high quality, but they're unique and it amuses me to watch my 6-year-old run around in the evil devil store. So... yeah. This may be my most useful review ever. read more

Customer service....ya'll gotta step up. We visited yesterday and I was so disappointed. There were 4 people at the registers. Two of them were ringing up people and then once they finished, turned to talk story to each other. They glanced at me several times too and the guy, I believe was the manager, had to say that "he thinks were ready." Uh yeah...thats why we are standing here. With clothes. We went up to the registers and someone with the nametag "g-dragon" or something helped us out but she was really rude. She seemed as if she didn't care and as if it were a hassle to check us out...like...sorry to interrupt your conversation. I'm here to give you money and a sale. It wasn't even busy. Like after the two cashiers( G-dragon and another girl with short, dyed green hair) finished they had no interest in helping anyone else. I think I'll be sticking to Pearl Ridge and Winward side. Hot Topic ... where do I start :| Dear Hot Topic .... When you first opened I was ecstatic. Because the only other place you could buy the awesome goth/rock wear and accessories was online. At least here in Hawaii that is. Oh how I loved frequenting your establishment. The clothes were so awesome, and the music you played .. well ... I could spend hours in there. And I have. Other than Spencers, it was a mecca of sorts for the odd and freaky :D The endless rock clothes are somewhat still there, however ... anything goth has been slowly removed. Then, came the emo crap ... followed by the rap crap. You no longer play endless rock/metal/death metal in your establishment. My ears are now subjected to ... rap, reggae and hawaiian music. Got nothing against that genre of music. It just shouldn't be played in a store that used to sell all things metal IMO. You have been sucked up into the mainstream of things ... and no longer have any appeal left ... I walked in there yesterday only to walk right back out after being in there for 20 minutes. Not one of your associates bothered to help us when we needed something taken down. We actually looked for the 'stick' ourselves. When we couldn't find it, we walked out. Sadly, your sales associates need to have a little more training on customer service. Terrible! Know what they were doing? One guy was doing the register, the other guy behind there was messing with the music.Took the guy messing with the music a while to stop and open his register :/ Awesome. Being my first trip as an adult to the U.S, i was tasked with going to hot topic for not only myself but to shop for others. This location was perfect for just that!! The staff were exceptional, they were super helpful without being pushy at all. (I believe it was) Sedona, the lovely lady who helped me was patient, kind and seemed just thrilled to see me. A few hiccups with my first overseas transaction and she was so patient, empathetic and just all round a delight. I was so so amazed with my hot topic experience!! I find it hilarious when my daughter sports a John Cusack shirt from the movie Say Anything, one of my all time favorite movies. I feel torn between feeling like I'm an old hag to asking her if I can borrow it. The teenager likes Hot Topic. I came here today to return a skirt that I previously bought, and I was blown away by their customer service ! A cute hello kitty tank top caught my eye, but there wasn't any in my size. The worker there helped me by calling multiple locations on the island, as well as checking online to see if they had any in stock. And they did ! I was amazed by how genuine he was to help me find what I wanted in the store. He also informed me that if there were any items on the store website that I liked, it was better to use their online kiosks to order them and have them shipped to the store.. Spent 3 years working there. It was good until corporate decided to sell to the Tweens (of course cuz all the money is there). Justin Beiber now graces the compressed cork walls which used to be for the actual music the store was founded on. Angst aside the store still has the gamer tees and hair dye. Staffing is still lacking in numbers (even when I was there), but they try to help as much as possible. And warning, Halloween is like a second Black Friday. Be prepared for tight quarters for those who forget Halloween is a certain week. read more
