I ordered French toasts but it came without my strawberries topping!! I'm very disappointed

Needed a quick bite and Hot Tomatoes came through! There are so many options to choose form whether its pizza, sandwiches, pastas, etc. There is something for everyone! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean and spacious seating area and friendly staff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered a slice that came with sausage, tomatoes and onions. Pizza is fresh and tasty, and the service is just as good as the pizza. I will be back to order more items off their menu!

Got a slice to go right before closing, it wasn't bad, but average. It was a good size for a slice but it didn't stand out to me. If in the area I'd grab it for sure but wouldn't rush back. I do find just a slice hard to judge a place so maybe their full pies are better so I would give it another go.

Huge portions and they treat you like family here! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Welcoming and warm environment where you can truly just sit and enjoy a tasty sandwich.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Ingredients feel fresh and well-selected, all coming together for one delicious bite after another. Their potato salad is one for the books. I was pleasantly surprised to see they now have a full bar and will be back to try their drinks soon. Their pizzas are also flavorful and big! A gem to revisit often in Union Square!

Hot Tomatoes is honestly such a hidden gem. The pizza is incredible -- super tasty and the portions are really big. What made it even better was the friendly service, everyone was so welcoming and kind. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to.

Thing that crushed my girlfriend when she sat down, this fell over on her.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat down outside and the wind blew this over on my girlfriend and crushed her.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We wait 20 minutes for food (a salad, a sandwich and a slice of pizza) and finally go up to the counter and one of our orders has been sitting there for the 20 minutes. We find out they gave the sandwich to someone else and they didn't start making a new one until we pointed it out. The sandwich was supposed to come with a side which we didn't get. When we finally got the sandwich, the chef had to walk the food over because the front cashier guy was too incompetent. Pizza was cold. I think if they fired the cashier person, the place would be a lot better.

    Sloppy Joe: amazing gourmet version!
    Amy X.

The Sloppy Joe was amazing! I hadn't had a Sloppy Joe since the elementary school cafeteria. I have been thinking of them in recent years and wondering what my first one as an adult would be like. First, Hot Tomatoes' is huge! I had been thinking $15 (after tax and tip) was a bit steep for a sandwich, but this was 2 full sandwiches. The bread is artisanal, delightfully thick and chewy, and way surpassed my expectations; a major step up from a hamburger bun. The filling tastes just like my nostalgic memories, but upon further inspection is much more gourmet, with the addition of beautifully melted cheese, caramelized onions and occasional bits of shredded carrots and tomatoes. It was definitely "sloppy" but so delicious I didn't mind picking up all the pieces that fell out and stuffing them back in. Tip: if you take some home make sure to wrap the part with the meaty inside exposed in several napkins as well as the small sheet they give you. I did and the bag still got leaky and stained orange. The leftover "half" sandwich tasted really good cold too. I will definitely go back for the Sloppy Joe and maybe other things - the menus of sandwiches, salads, and pizza all look very appealing, more than the typical sandwich shop.

Hot Tomato Pie with cherry peppers and pepperoni
    Nitasha K.

Finally got to come in and order Hot Tomatoes! The ambiance was a comfortable, modern vibe for take out or dine in. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. My husband and I ordered to go, the Hot Tomatoes Pie with hot cherry peppers and pepperoni along with the chick a dee salad. The pizza was perfectly crisp and thin, with solid flavors and balance. The pizza size is a decent size and has 8 slices. Coming from NJ and NY it's difficult to find a pizza of that caliber locally and we're so happy we finally have a spot for that well made pie. The salad was also flavorful and paired well with the pizza. We'll definitely be back! (Check out the photos!)

Loved the sandwiches, but the pizza was a disappointment. No rise on the dough & it couldn't stand up to the sauce. Sauce had good flavor. Just the dough was terrible. Could prob make a better pizza at home.

Had the Rueben and Thanksgiving sandwiches. Both were excellent. Great sauce and large portions of meat. The potato salad was a nice side.

Our waitress was knowledgeable and gave good food and wine recommendations from the menu. Our party really enjoyed the octopus as it was a tender bite with freshness coming from the peas/mint/cilantro. We also enjoyed the juicy meatballs with tomato sauce and again a hint of freshness and nuttiness coming from the pine nut pesto. We were not crazy about the striped bass crudo. It just seemed to fall flat flavor wise for me maybe not enough salt or acid to really counter balance the other fresh clean flavors in the dish. That being said it was not bad just underwhelming. The pizzas were great value price wise and the flavor combinations were unique but also worked well with one another. I liked how they didn't shy away from using spicy peppers on the Nduja pizza. The Fennel Sausage pizza had that fattiness from the sausage mixed with acidity from the cherry peppers and some creaminess/extra layer of flavor with the green garlic cream sauce. I somewhat wish the pizza bottom was baked slightly longer for a less floppy center but that's just personal preference. They clearly put a lot of effort into this pizza recipe. The only critique we would have is the service seemed a bit rushed. We would have enjoyed a bit more time between appetizers and the mains. Even the check came pretty shortly after we finished which would be understandable on a busy weekend night but this was a Tuesday evening and there seemed to be plenty of empty tables around us. Other than that would recommend for an elevated night out!

I got the after school snack cocktail which was very refreshing and paired nicely with the meal. We split the Bucatini Verde and it was so delicious. I couldn't even pinpoint the flavors I was eating but it was amazing. Fresh pasta and just really good flavor. We saw a dish online we wanted, but the server explained they use that pasta for different dishes and change out the sauce, so I'm glad I got to try it. We then split the Pepperoni + Vodka Sauce pizza which was good. I'll be honest I was a tad disappointed in the pizza. It was flavorful but I think I was expecting the same feeling I got when I had the pasta. It was good, but just that, good. Crust was a little burnt. I did love the vibes and pasta and it's definitely known in Cambridge for a good reason. I'd recommend a reservation if you'd like a table as it does fill up fast.

My go-tos are the mushroom pie and clam pie, both of which are super flavorful and made with high-quality ingredients. They pair really well with the shaved brussel sprout salad, which may be the perfect salad in my eyes: thinly shaved brussel sprouts, crunchy roasted hazelnuts, and slices of parmesan cheese. Not too saucy but extremely refreshing!

The service was poor from the start. The waitress told us we would be seated at the bar. She rolled her eyes and appeared visibly annoyed when I asked if it was okay that my sister was under 21. She said it was fine as long as we didn't order drinks, then seated us at the bar. We were only given drink menus. When the bartender came over to take our order, I had to ask for a food menu myself. Our seating was also uncomfortable. We were placed right next to the bar/server station. My sister got splashed when drinks were being opened, and servers repeatedly bumped into her chair while passing. We ordered the Carnivore pizza. The pizza itself was quite salty. The dough was decent, but not impressive. I kept trying to convince myself it was good, but it fell short. Pizza: 3/5 Service: 2/5 Atmosphere: 3/5 Would I return? No. Overall, I was surprised by the 4.4 rating. My expectations were much higher based on the reviews.

Picked the Salsiccia pizza to split between us (and a poached pear and cannoli for dessert). First, the atmosphere is great! Inviting, with great views of Ball Square and the amazing pizza oven. The pizza arrived at the perfect temperature and quickly (we learned later that a pizza spends less than couple minutes in the oven due to how blisteringly hot it gets). Great flavor and composition to the pizza -- the sausage was extremely flavorful and there was just enough cheese. The dough is top notch, with just the right amount of chew! The poached pear and cannoli were excellent. Not too sweet with sufficient complexity. Very, very nice. My fiancé chatted with the staff and learned more about the location and the pizza oven (I mean, it's just too cool to not ask to see more closely). Great service, fantastic food.
