    Completely burned wings.

We've been eating HCT since that first little window on the near east side. We were early investors. I heard that Joe sold the business recently. We just ordered what we've always ordered. The chicken wings were burned. They tasted terrible. The Mac and cheese and slaw are completely different now. The slaw is creamy with onions. After 10 years, it seems all the flavor and uniqueness have been beaten out of HCT by the owners of Jimmy Johns. If you are an original fan, save your money. It's not worth it anymore.

I discovered Hot Chicken Takeover on my last day in Columbus and I am super sad I only got to eat it once because it was SO good. I think maybe my favorite thing I ate while I was visiting! The spice level was appropriate for what I chose, the chicken was perfectly crispy, and it was not overly salty like you get in Nashville. I wish there was one in New York. Definitely recommend for the spicy food lovers out there.

    Mac and "cheese"

Holy. Hell. I'm a long term fan of HCT- and was thrilled to be back in columbus and treat my family to a great meal. Little did I know, this place is NOT the HCT I remembered. Gone are the days of homemade Mac and cheese, large portions, even... flavor?! The quality of this restaurant has tanked. Paying the same prices, I expected my Mac and cheese to contain... cheese? Nope, no cheese here- just the most bland plastic box mix you could imagine. Skip HCT- visit warios next door for a meal with a company that isn't plummeting in quality. To Joe and the former HCT team, we miss you!

    2 thighs, hot

Pro's: -perfectly mixed sweet tea -yummy crispy chicken. I accidentally went too hot and suffered through it (user error) but was pleasantly surprised that my stomach didn't bother me later -pickles helped me cut the heat -excellent sides. Fries were on point. Mac and cheese not too bad -we came at the perfect time with no line -easy to use order system where you ring up yourself Con's: -I tried really hard but I can't think of anything bad to say I ordered 2 thighs but would have gotten the sandwich instead in hindsight. Would choose fries over Mac and cheese, which is rare for me.

    Drumsticks - Warm

Where to even begin. I'm leaving 1 star because I can't leave 0. This business has turned into utter trash. When they opened I was genuinely a raging fan. I have put up with steady decline for years but I'm not kidding when I say that I've finally reached the point of no return. I've had a number of poor experiences in the past but for the sake of length will only write about the most recent two. I ordered here a couple months ago, later towards closing and by the time I picked up, drove home to open the bag and realize half my order was missing the store had closed for the night. No opportunity to have the issue resolved. Ordered take out again tonight to arrive home and find this (see picture). Anyone who has had the food here before can see the obvious problem. Completely overcooked the chicken. I tried to eat a piece but it is honestly not worth the calorie intake. My next complaint is that they have recently changed the recipe to the Mac and cheese. It is now macaroni and yellow number 5 food dye sauce instead of Mac and cheese. To top off my complaints the prices are outrageous. Long gone are the days of "our tea is free and always will be". It really should not cost 45 dollars for the same two meals that cost 25 dollars 5 years ago. I know inflation is a thing but costs have not truly doubled. In my mind there are two ways a business can adapt, raise prices or reduce quality, but you don't get to do both. Some general final thoughts, HCT prides themselves on being a fair chance employer which is all well and good, but if you're lacking competent supervision then what's the point? Clearly no one cares about the standards of food or service. It's clear to me that the HCT decision makers care about everyone but the customers. This is for sure my last meal from HCT and I don't even get to eat it. I'm not exaggerating when I say you can buy a better chicken dinner from common fast food chains like KFC for a quarter of the price. I will be moderately surprised if this restaurant chain exists in a decade. If anyone at HCT reads this and cares, my order number for tonight was #29895724606980097

    Tenders and Mac & Cheese

It really seems like people are half and half on Hot Chicken Takeover, either you love it and come here a lot or you are like me and think it is overrated. I will recognize what I did like; the ranch is top tier and that Mac & Cheese is heavenly. I may come back just for that. The chicken, however, was disappointing. The breading style just wasn't for me, it is one layer of flake that is thin and barely any flavor. I'm a true wuss when it comes to true hot chicken levels, so I tried the cool and warm and realized this is not like nashville hot chicken. The warm had no heat at all. I tried the hot from my partner and that was better but still lacked some flavor in general. I'd rather go to Dave's Hot Chicken if I'm being honest.

Mild chicken wings, Ma's Mac and Cheese, and Ma's Sweet Tea
    Kembral C.

Treated myself to Mild chicken wings, Mac and cheese, and tea for lunch. I highly recommend starting with mild before trying hot (or do half and half). Cause hot is indeed HOT. Tea is free and you can get unlimited refills! Parking: there's plenty of shared business parking spots behind the restaurant. Ambience: indoor and outdoor seating available. There's also a drive-thru to pickup orders. Service: good service! Quality: the best chicken place I've tried in columbus! Covid precautions: face mask upon entry. And seating is appropriately distanced. Price: $$

We saw this spot and decided to hit them up for a din-din and beer on this auspicious late afternoon. We were seated and they quickly brought out a menu - including one for our pup! How cool was that? I ordered their house lager- hubby ordered chicken Caesar salad- I got chicken tenders and waffles for me with fried okra for the table- puppy got a whole chicken breast- nice! Ok the taste - I'm not a huge okra fan. But these fried little morsels were spiced up and hit the spot- hubby loved his salad while I munched down my chicken and waffles like - you know - stat! And the service was great- definitely was awesome. If you want a little taste of the south? Check this place out?

It was brunch time so I had coffee, the "Mimosa of the Moment" which was an apple cinnamon, a biscuit with blueberry preserves, and the Southern Shakshouka. All were fantastic and I would definitely get again. I also thought the price was affordable for the quantity.

Three words: Country; Fried; Chicken. Wow…read more I decided to stop at this little local place while staying in town for the week based on some solid reviews (and the fact that I made some fried chicken of my own for my family last night but didn't really end up getting any before I left). I started out with a 101 Jungle Bird as I'm a rum drinker and liked the idea of a bourbon-forward one instead. I'll say that this was much more fruity than a Jungle Bird and without the bitterness (no Campari). It also didn't taste very strong but it definitely hit me pretty good. Definitely a tasty-but-dangerous one there. For food, I opted for the Country Fried Chicken. What a fantastic choice indeed. The breast was either butterflied or pounded flat but still thick enough to give a good bite. The outside was cooked to absolute perfection with a crunchy texture without being burned or underdone. The inside was tender and juicy. The whole piece was seasoned beautifully and that was even without any of the delicious white gravy. The Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes that accompanied were similarly well done with great flavor. And the cherry on top was that the portion size was PERFECT. Not a ton of carbs and things that left me feeling beyond full or guilty that I had a bunch of leftover food to likely toss. The seat at the bar was a great place to be. A handful of seats staring at nothing but a huge wall of bourbon. To your back are a series of large high tops and, unfortunately for me, on this night were full of a rather loud group. An unintended side effect of the close quarters but I'm sure not a regular thing. The place is otherwise quite cozy and comfortable and in line with the southern cooking motif. My bartender, Mike, was also very friendly and happy to chat a little about my travels and share our regional sports experiences. All in all, absolutely outstanding. Great food, wonderful staff, and an impressive drink selection. I'm looking forward to coming back here again.

Turn in at the light, and be careful about which driveway you pick- I think it's the second driveway, near a daycare, and it winds around back to the restaurant. You can see the place from James. Pretty busy at lunchtime, a few dine in and some carryout. Served cafeteria style, so you can see what you want, and drool over it. Well, there's a clear shield, but you know what I mean. I got smothered pork chops, since I hadn't had them forever. Meaty, tender, covered in gravy and onions. So so good, especially as comfort food on a cold day. You can also get them fried. Plenty of other things on the menu looked good. And all of the sides sounded good. I ended up getting one that was a mix of cabbage and greens, instead of getting the two separately, so that gave me space for another side. I went with mac & cheese. Sweetie's mom's mac is the best in the world. I'm not kidding. This is not quite that good, but is a very good homemade version, loaded with cheese, and baked in a big pan. Service was excellent. Prices are a bit steep, but good for the quantity and quality. Canned pop. Cheap plasticware. I was leery, but the pork chops were so tender that even a plastic knife pulled them apart easily. Hardly needed it. The place is not fancy inside. Old, but clean, a few booths and tables. You're there for the food, not the decor. Or, come in and pick it up and take it home. And have better silverware... I will definitely be back. I loved what I got, and was enticed by some of the other things.
