Color me not impressed at all. I was in Hot Breads in Hicksville in mid-July to pick up two birthday cakes for my nephew's birthday party. In addition to being a bakery, Hot Breads also markets itself as an indo-Chinese cafe. Knowing we would be several hours early to a birthday party, we had some of the menu offerings. Samosa and samosa chaat were great, but then again it's kind of hard to mess those up. Everything else we ordered was entirely inedible due to the obscene amount of chili that went into the meal. My dining buddies seemed unbothered by the chili so it's good that not a lot of the food went to waste, but some notice of spice (or option to not have the spice) would have been nice. On to the cakes, we ordered two sugar-free cakes due to my brother in law being diabetic. The cakes were light and fluffy and sweet, and I had no idea they were actually sugar free. These cakes get Hot Bread an extra star. The cakes were personalized. I would assume (and, spoiler alert, I'm clearly wrong) that an Indian bakery owner and operated by Indian people would be able to spell an Indian name correctly. Especially when my nephew's name is only two letters long and therefore easy to spell. They spelled it wrong. read more

They were "fake training interviewing" for the chef roles and the company's name was "Hot Bread Kitchen" guys, dont believe the hype. They email people constantly. telling them to come to the interview and training. they have this "chef" doing demos and live demonstrations about how things are done. you waste 4 hrs there. you do what she tells you to do in the kitchen, the interviewer call everyone out one by one. you dont get called back. what is the catch? when you first arrive, they take your picture, and your social and state ID. why? for state/government funding. just like workforece 1. they book all these people, with hopes of getting a job or a training for the job, then you are booted out. Its a scam. if you mistakenly applied for anything that says; hotbread, ignore the ongoing emails. its a scam to keep getting funded. they dont care about you. its a waste of time! read more

This is a good meat-alternative experience. It takes a looooong time for them to heat up the food, though. It's not fresh. A couple of items were also burned, and there was a bit of back and forth convincing the cashier that we wanted replacements (obviously we weren't going to eat burned items...). Their egg free cake was delicious, surprisingly moist and beautifully decorated. I ordered a 2lb mixed fruit cake online and picked up with no issues. In store they had a variety of small cute egg free cakes for 3$ I'd recommend their egg free cake and can't wait to order from here again. read more

Terrible experience. Waited over 30 minutes just to pick up some food. I waited patiently to order my food but the problem is not enough staff. And the staff taking phone order while i was standing right in front for so long. The phone orders were given priority as opposed the the customer standing in the store to order. With a store name like Hot Breads, I was under the impression that they would if nothing else have a descent selection of breads. They did have a ok selection of pastries, Of which i had a chocolate mouse parfait, Which was out of this world. Walking into the store I first noticed a very strong bleach smell as if they had just done the floors. In my opinion that is a big no no, Never clean floors and leave a smell during the day. Came here today to grab some food between lunch and dinner w/ an Indian friend who was knowledgeable about the type of food they got here (cause I had no idea). I love meat but I was down to get some vegetarian eats today worddd. First thing I noticed was the cheap prices - everything seemed like it was between like $5-$6, which is great. My friend and I split a Bombay sandwich and Paneer Teekha sandwich. Both were $5. The Bombay sandwich had 3 pieces of crustless bread w/ layers of potato and vegetables. It was enjoyable; something about it works nice and it is light and tasty. I liked the Paneer Teekha sandwich even better; it had some ill cheese cubes plus onions, veggies, and some spices and such. It wasn't the right time to have dessert but they had some tasty looking cakes like black forest, pistachio, and such. Definitely will be back sometime to try more stuff. read more

I wanted to stop by and get some pastries and I got to the door and it was locked but there were customers in the line so I figured he'll let me in and it said the store closes at 6 and it was only 5:35 the time I got there. I asked him if they are open and the owner said no and locked the door back. Another customer comes by and the owner had let him in. Uncle seems a bit rough around the edges but he's always been accommodating and pleasant to me and my fiancée. I placed an order 20 minutes before closing on one occasion and it was for 4 Chik non teekha Pannini's. A woman answered and said no it was too late but uncle said he would make them. They were fresh, hot and waiting. On another occasion I placed an order for six and he joked if I was staying to eat all six. I wasn't offended and laughed and I could see he was joking. Give him a chance. As for the food, my favorite is the chick non teekha pannini but everything I've tried has been delicious. Cakes are perfect. Not too sweet, light and airy. They bakery needs and menu is wonderful. Try their pani puri, chat, bhel puri, and dahi papadi. Their dahi papdi is actually my favorite. Mmmm mmm mmm! Their pizzas, and panins are Indian style, so don't expect a panini American style, it's a little different, and you can ask them to make it spicy if you want more spice. All their paneer dishes are really fantastic as well. Their mango lassi is my favorite when it comes to their juices. If you don't know what something is, the owner is always happy to explain the dishes to patrons. Don't be afraid to venture out of your comfort zone! Did I mention the full bakery at the check-out counter that just taunts you? All their bakery items are amazing, and over the years, I have def tried about half the pastries and cakes. I would have tried all of them if not for my nut allergy. Want a HELLA cheap meal? You could get an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert for under $10. The moment you walk in the 1st thing you smell is cocoa, very fitting! I'm not a coffee drinker but my friends said that the coffee was great. Their story is an interesting one: they were weeks away from opening & Superstorm Sandy hit & wasn't kind to them at all. However, what's more incredible is how they were able to rebound & still get the place open! They persevered & that's enough to impress me. Baked goods are great: friend of mine got 2 cakes from them & the one we had was a devil's food with buttercream frosting & it was delicious! This place was better than Mumbai Express and was worth the 1.5 hour bus ride to Hicksville!! The PANI PURI was the BEST! The puffs were light and crisp and the fillings (potato chunks/chick peas/tamarind sauce/basil sauce with rice crisps) were amazingggg. I literally just wanted to have the whole plate to myself. Papadi chat was fun to eat and tasteful as well. The crackers tasted as if they were roasted that day. GENEROUS PORTIONS so you can definitely share this snack amongst 2-3 ppl. We also ordered a paneer panini that was the size of a personal pizza pie. Tasted great but I was so full from the pani puri and the chat that I only ate a quarter of the panini. I haven't come here but I have had their cakes several times now. Our friends have been raving about it so when it came to my birthday, my husband treated me with a cake (and pastries) from here. The black Forrest cake was amazing! We were truly missing an authentic indian style cake that is fluffy, soft, and moist. These italian and american cakes are good, but nothing beats indian style cakes. Definitely reminded me of my childhood in every bite! :) thanks for making my birthday special guys! I guess that's what you get when you eat highly refined carbs every day....kidding :) The place is small, has a few tables and chairs. They have a variety of Indian snacks and appetizers on the menu, a few cakes and desserts. This is the worst place in the whole long island. I have been living here for the past 20 years but never seen such a rude/disgusting/pathetic/horrible/negligent customer service by the old guy (owner). He refused to take my sandwich order as it takes time to prepare. I hope this place closes soon. Does not even know 0.01% of manners to treat customers. This old jack a** owner thinks that he is serving food for free.. Never again.. Visit only if you want to get treated like a beggar/homeless person waiting for free food. I'm writing this just after going there for lunch today. I've been there a few times before, and it's great for anyone who enjoys a good indian/vegetarian place. Their menu isn't huge, in fact, it's a 2-page take out pamphlet, but the amount of things they can make and the variety is plentiful so long as you like this type of cuisine. As far as the place itself, it's nothing fancy, I only put down that it is a restaurant because that's the only way I could portray the fact that it serves indian and vegetarian foods. It's more like a bakery/pizzeria: look at the menu, look at what they have in the glass counters, order at the counter, and have a seat. It's a really quiet place, which I like, but I feel bad if it's too quiet because then it makes me think they don't have enough business. Regardless, the food I've had there has always been good, and on numerous occasions where I've chosen a few different things on the menu. I recommend the pizzas, they're only 5 bucks max, and they taste pretty good, but fair warning, they use "Chick-none" which is basically like tofu or soy-based chicken. Still, I like it, especially the chick-none teekha or hawaiian chick-none pizzas. If you like it spicy, get the fiery chick-none pizza, but another warning, they must add about a dozen chopped up green chilis to it, and they're hidden under the cheese. All in all, if you're looking for a nice place for some new indian puff pastries, chaat, pizzas or panini's, and you don't want to worry about having to yell to have a conversation with someone, check out this place. The food is good, and the prices are just as good. You can get 2 samosas for $1 each, and be full if you really were tight on cash, but $5 for a personal pizza or $2-$3 for a puff pastry is perfectly fine by me too. read more

This place has won my heart as one of the rare places where you can find only vegetarian cakes and pastries. No need to worry ever and ask specific questions... Their prices are very reasonable and the cakes and pastries have just the right amount of sugar and cream. I don't feel like a heavy drum after eating a big piece. Great quality!! I like the selection of other food such as chaats, sandwiches, puffs, etc. that are hard to find at other places and that too all under the same roof. Extremely horrible service. Food is ok. But the uncle that owns it or manages the place is very rude. He is not accommodating at all. I wanted a side of a garlic chutney that he gives with vada pav and I was willing to pay for extra packets and he wouldn't even sell them to me. I told him I am a regular customer. He says " everyone is a regular customer" Since I am a business owner also, I know that Business is all about making the customer happy. The eggless mango cake is phenomenal. I've ordered it for birthdays, anniversaries and other big events, and it's always been a hit. Guests are constantly asking where the cake was from. It's on the pricey side and needs to be preordered, but well worth it. The cake is the only bread and butter of this place, literally rest of the food is average. The service is reminiscent of your typical dhaba in rural India. The staff is nonchalant and evasive with no respect to pick up times and details discussed over the phone.
