We've tried other spots in Hicksville, but we love that this spot is consistently yummy and that they have both dosas and curry dishes on their menu. Our go-to for Indian food! Their Rava Dosa is usually crispy and packed with flavor. The gunpowder one is yummy! The Khadai Paneer Masala is also usually super yummy, and we love the tomato creamy base that is paired with the paneer--a different alternative when we aren't craving Palak Paneer. Of course, have to wash it down with a Mango Lassi. Cute little restaurant in Hicksville with parking in the back. The servers were kind and let us sit wherever we want. It's a causal Indian restaurant but clean. Not much decor. The samosa chaat was good but the sour yogurt ruined the taste a little. The chutneys were good and fresh. I enjoyed that they cut the samosa up too and mixed it well. The mango lassi was well made and didn't taste artificial. The dosas were good but not the best. They were paper thin but too crispy. It shattered like glass when you went to go break it. The sambar was disappointing and too thick. Coconut chutney was excellent. The potato masala was not good and needed onions/more taste to it. It was basically mashed potatoes with some green peas. Wow. My son and I visited recently and were blown away. We are both Dosa freaks, and would normally hit up a competitor. Because he wanted to hit up the Indian candy store next door, we decided to give Dosa World a shot. Glad we did ! About ten tables in a very spartan dining room, not very fancy but folks are here for the food not the ambience. Our Dosas were excellent but what will have me coming back is their Chhole Bhatura Chick Peas with Puffed Bread, it was fantastic ! Solid food experience. Basic kind of place where you order the kind of dosa you want and then eat it. Nothing fancy. Sort of a diner atmosphere. We had several large dosas at our table; all were good but the vegetable specialty one was actually made with frozen vegetables. Terrific food! We were so hungry when we came at the end of the night and all the food was great. I loved my Dosa World Thali, which had a little bit of everything. Dosa and uttapam were great and I loved the small almond halwa they give! The sambar was more thin and watery than I'm used to, but it was still good. Filter coffee was a great end to the meal. The staff was nice, just a little slow with menus/checks. I'm sure they're very busy on weekends especially, and for the quantity/amount of food they make for lots of people, I give them slack. "This is authentic" - my Indian boyfriend LOL But in all honesty, the food was really good at this place! We went because we got a recommendation from one of our friends, and it was a successful dinner. The appetizer dishes were VERY spicy for someone who's not good at handling spices like me. My favorite dishes were Palak Paneer (my all time fav) + Onion Dosa. It was my first time having dosa, and it was amazing! Inside the store was very spacious, and felt way less Americanized (or very little) compared to other places, which I enjoyed. I ordered the South Indian Thali and the variety was ok but the quality of taste was mediocre at best. Nothing was recognizable to home cooked South Indian food, it's like someone from the North tried making South Indian food. [Also I didn't get a papadam or poori - MISSING ITEMS] I never even drank the Masala tea it went straight into the trash, they need to package their drinks better for delivery! Dosas are so underrated IMHO - they have everything you want, crunch, spice and are just full of flavor. Dosa World serves a full menu but we came primarily for the namesake dish. We got gobi manchurian and a few onion rava masala dosas and it was a pretty good meal. The gobi manchurian was pretty good - spicy but could have used some more tang. The dosas were great - crispy and spicy. The potato filling was perfectly spiced and the dipping sauces were a best complement. Service is friendly and prices are fair. Portions are a good size. Probably my favorite dosa spot in Nassau, LI. Food is not too expensive, they serve good portion size, and is very tasty! Definitely give it a try if you are in the area! Side note: like most indian food places, my stomach didn't take it too well the next day. Don't get Dosa world if you got work/school the next day. Also, when you ask for spicy, they mean it. You know how you go to a relative's house to eat and you eat the meal to be polite, but you do REALLY enjoy it? Well that was my experience last night. First the good: The idli was good. Nothing special, but good. The Paneer Rava Masala Dosa was delicious and justifies their name "Dosa World". Now the bad: Paneer Bhurji Omg, it was like eating bad mush. With all the dosa places on 106 / 107 this place needs to think about upgrading the interior, which looks like it still stuck in the 70s. Actually came here on a last minute audible. I was on my way to meet people at our normal go to dosa spot but over the years they've really been letting me down. Tiny, and way overpriced now...so as I was en route there I quickly yelped dosa's and this place was the first to pop up. With such positive reviews I figured I'd roll the dice....we now have our new goto dosa spot. Definitely more seating then many other places, friendly staff, reasonable prices, and most importantly great dosas! The masala cheese dosa was delicious, they had tons of options on the menu which I'm really looking forward to trying over the years. New loyal customers were established after this meal. We began with the paneer manchurian to start and were very taken aback when the dish came out. The portion was noticeably, extremely TINY. Not even enough for 2 people to share. For the price of almost $10, they gave us a tiny, small bowl of paneer. Although it was tasty, I've definitely had better and BIGGER!! Lol (Chennai Dosa and Russell Dhaba being better examples for this dish!). For entrees, we opted for the ONION RAVA MASALA DOSA SPICY and the NORTH INDIAN THALI. Both were really delicious, however the dosa was NOT SPICY whatsoever. Other dosa joints in Hicksville usually really kick it up a notch when they say spicy, so we were a little disappointed. Dosa World is absolutely delicious, if you crave comforting North/South indian comfort food, then you have come to the right place! One of the owners said they have been opened for about 4 months and are still learning and growing the business. As I perused the impressive menu choices my eyes wander away as they caught a glimpse of Dosa's coming out of the kitchen, the first words out of my mouth were "Man! they are HUGE!!" I liked what I saw and couldn't wait to place my order. We started with the Mango Lassi, a traditional mango infused yogurt drink that was pretty typical in taste compared to other Indian restaurants. I came with a group of six and we started to get down to business. We ordred the following: Dosa - 3 types - Gunpowder Masala chili, chocolate and Special hand wrapped. Let me tell you something folks, the gunpowder chilli is no joke, you could have lit a fuse in me and I would have went up in flames! Spicy goodness too delicious to set down. The Dosa's were not overcooked and the dipping sauces that complemented the meal were savory and delish made with tomato and ginger, coconut chutney and sambalar. Appetizers - * Paneer Pakora - deep fried chick peas mixed with spices was a delicious bite. * idli - Steam rice and lentil flour cakes were pillowy soft and once dipped into the chutney sauce was OMG melt in your mouth delicious. * Gobi Manchurian - A deep fried cauliflower in batter and glazed over with a Chinese type sauce that tasted very similar to General Tso Chicken that you would get in a Chinese restaurant. Curries- * Palak Paneer - Velvety smooth spinach and homemade cottage cheese, the cheese was perfect in texture and provided the perfect bite. The owner told me the cottage cheese is all homemade. We washed everything down with a nice hot cup of Masala tea, which was a perfect way to end our day of gluttoney. In the space that used to be the expensive Ragmhall restaurant is now a wonderful inexpensive Vegetarian Indian restaurant. Dosa world may be bare bones in its decor, however the food is wonderfully full of flavor. Parking is easy with their rear lot and back entrance. The staff was extremely attentive and the menus provides a great overview of the dishes for diners like me that are not familiar with all of the items. We had the appetizer sampler with this incredible coconut chutney for a dipping sauce. We also has the behl puri appetizer which was crunchy and had just the right amount of spice. For my main I had the Rava Dosa with Paneer Masala. The onion baked in is terrific and the cheese, potato mixture was full of flavor. Again, with some of their amazing coconut chutney (and some tamarind), I devoured that large dosa in no time at all! For dessert, a delicious Halwa A la mode.
