i tried this local indian restaurant Punjabi Dhaba over the weekend. it was a small shop with a handful of tables and had a family-business feel, serving authentic punjabi food. i tried the special thali, which came with four curries, rice, yogurt, a sweet, and three roti. overall, all of the food was exceptional and had a medium spice level. the hospitality was great, and everyone who worked there was very kind and welcoming. i also tried the mixed vegetable paratha, which had paneer inside as well. it was a very delicious dish, and for the price, i think it was an incredible deal. i also tried the aloo tikki chaat, which had an incredible crunch, and the chole it came with was one of my favorites. it was a very warm, comforting, and spicy dish. i would definitely recommend this place. the service was quick, and i had my food in around 20 minutes. read more

Easily a hidden gem of Hickesville! This place is excellent! Service is on the slower side but the food is incredible. Also they give you enough food for 4 people at such a cheap price. You are easily transported to authentic Punjabi Indian restaurant in India and it gives similar vibe. They give you chaas (buttermilk) instead of water like a traditional Indian dhaba. The curries are flavored like India without the sweet American taste. The yogurt in the papri chaat was excellent. The naan was good (not the best) but I loved coming here. Welcome drink is not just regular water, its lassi as Panjabi families host at home in a steel jug and unlimited supply accompanied by steel glasses and food served in stainless steel plates. Very homely environment. The food was great. Papdi Chaat was so delicious. Kulcha was well stuffed and crispy up to the mark not burnt. Perfectly buttered and well done. We ordered Kala chana which was super hit among the family, the gravy was so good and a very unique taste. Thali was equally good and portion size was perfect for 2 people. Sweets were excellent. This is a hidden gem in Hicksville among so many restaurants we just happen to be there. Wondering why we haven't discovered this place before. While paying bill the owner saw my daughter in scrubs and ask what position she is into medical profession and I mention she is a physician, he said we are so proud of our daughters and offered sweets without any charge to her. I get to the store and the young girl cannot find my order, after some searching in the back they asked for a high price, I questioned again if thats my order, and to my dismay, it was the wrong order they were trying to give me. I decided to give the girl another opportunity, and I placed the order again, and she came back two more times with confusion. It's a whole in a wall restaurant holds about 12 people with a few tables to dine in. Now the kitchen is big where all the dancing with the star's chefs are preparing some feast for you as if you were the bridegroom supper with the most fabulous exquisite taste of brianni , Cheney sauces most delicious samosas all different kinds that you'll leave convinced that'll be your new dwelling for Asian cuisine of India. I enjoyed it I live 30 miles away and when I'm around this restaurant, I make sure to make a pit stop. Pig out all the spices of my heart desires. Not costly at very reasonable prices. Home style fresh meal which is very very reasonably priced, there are just 5 tables inside as it is small place, we went on a Sunday and there was only one waiter so service was not the fastest but at the same time it was not that bad either.
