The owner seated us and waited on us himself during a slow Sunday afternoon. He brought bread and the most delicious olive oil. The food was absolutely delicious and very plentiful servings. Our concierge at Hotel Parco dei Principe recommended and reserved a table for us. After a day of sightseeing we were up for something close by and quiet. It's a lovely, small neighborhood spot with a simple, delicious and fresh menu. From the basket of homemade bread, the carefully selected olive oil, the crisp, sweet green salad, the perfectly sauced pasta Amatriciana and Caicio e Pepe, the perfectly recommended glasses of wine and ending with a plate of red wine biscotti, we were made to feel like welcomed guests of the establishment and by the other diners curious as to where we were from. After long days of sight seeing and returning to the hotel to re-collect myself, the last thing I wanted to do was jump in a cab and go back to the hustle and bustle of the city center to find a spot to eat... So I ventured out of Hotel Albani (where I was staying) to try and find a place to chow down at... This eatery is super close to the hotel and initially did not turn me on, however, when I realized no other place was open for dinner that early (7pm- I know, I'm so American), so I decided to just go for it even though the menu plastered outside their entrance didn't really do it for me. That being said, when we were given menus and told the specials, my taste buds lit up because there was FISH! Lots of fish, and that's my jam!! They had a lot of fish specials, however, I went for the black cod special with a side of spinach and some grilled eggplant and zucchini. Delicious. Delicious I tell you! I could have ordered another entree, but instead I ordered the seafood appetizer (trio) which was pretty good, but not as good as my entree. My friend, who went to dinner with me, initially thought she was hungry, but when her pesto pasta came, she realized she really wasn't all that hungry, ate one bite, said it was okay and that was it. The men working in the restaurant were offended with the fact that she didn't finish her meal, however I can attest that she had eaten A TON that day, and has a very small stomach. Sure, it wasn't her favorite meal of the trip, but it wasn't her least favorite either and I know she would have eaten more if she could. The bruschetta "gift" appetizer was a pleasant surprise- the tomatoes were on point and the bread basket smelled like what dreams are made of. That being said-- even though we never asked for the bread, they charged 4€ and a bottle of water is 3€. I'd eat here again (if I were back in Rome, staying at the Albani Hotel) as I looked over at our neighbor's food and the seared tuna entree looked phenomenal and my friend thought the meat and cheese plate looked delicious! read more

Recommended by my B&B hostess, I had several dinners at Hostario Po during my week-long stay in October. My first impression was of the very congenial and good-natured demeanor of the restaurant staff. I was always made to feel welcome. Moreover, the service is attentive and efficient. This was especially appreciated as I encountered several establishments during this last visit where the welcome for this foreigner was rather muted and, in one case, bordered on hostile. Friendly environs aside, what brought me back for a repeat meal was the quality of the food. At the suggestion of my very congenial server, I ordered their clams. While the clams were nice, the broth that it was steeped in was truly wonderful. I went through not only the toasted bread served with the dish, but also almost all the bread in the bread basket. All were used to mop up that delicious broth. Recommend by both my B&B hostess and the server, I ordered the gnocchi which also turned out to be tender and delicious. So much for the low-carb meal. More irresistible carbs came with the bill in the form of crisp after-dinner cookies. I deliberated between a four and five star rating. I didn't opt for the extra star only because there are probably several other restaurants in the area with a more elevated quality of cooking. Nevertheless, the very good food, the relatively reasonable prices and especially the convivial ambiance will make this one of my favorite places to dine on my business trip to this neighborhood. On our recent honeymoon, my husband and I were delighted to find Hostaria Po just down the street from our BnB. Even with all of the incredible bites we had throughout Lazio and Tuscany, our absolute favorite dishes came from right here. Our first attempt to eat here was foiled because of our lack of reservations, a fact about which the host looked positively and genuinely saddened. So we promptly made reservations for the following night and wound up returning no less than three times in the 8 days we were in Rome. It's a small, well-lit, modern restaurant, with hands-on but unobtrusive friendly, welcoming and passionate staff. We had the same waiter each visit and he was extremely patient with us, as we don't speak Italian and we weren't yet familiar with Italian style dinners. He helped to explain the menu, the courses, etc. I have seriously fond memories of the Carbonara and Cacio e Pepe, as well as the (obviously plentiful) array of wines. On our last visit I enjoyed a special of ultra fresh mushrooms passionately described and recommended by the staff. I was charmed by it all--the food, the affordability, the staff and the decor. Lovely lovely place, yet not overrun by hordes of tourists (from what we could tell, most patrons were Italian). I know we'll return on our next trip to my beloved Italia! read more

We live in the neighborhood and this is the place we take all of our visitors to for traditional Italian fare. When in season, their artichokes (Carciofi alla Romana) are the best thing on the menu. After your meal, be sure to ask for the limoncello (secret family recipe, made by the owner's father). read more

We went to this restaurant based on the great reviews. And I have to report that although the appetizer seafood carpaccio was excellent, best we ever had, all our other dishes were not: my pasta was undercooked (most were hard, some al dente, but very uneven) and I couldn't taste the bacon flavor in it (the bacon was mostly fat, btw); the beef cutlet was good but so plain - you could do so much more with it, if only add tomato sauce; finally, our tuna steak was only okay but I had better for this price and marinated with less salt; the roasted potatoes were full of salt and we couldn't eat them; we also couldn't taste any of the herbs on them (rosemary?). The concierge recommended this restaurant to my husband as a location for my birthday dinner. It was definitely a superb option - Roman gem! Small and quaint with phenomenal personalized attention. Most of all, the food and desserts were awesome. We had the eggplant and Parmesan starter, chicken curry and sea bass as second course, spinach with butter & cream and truffle pasta as sides, and apple turnover and AWESOME chocolate lava cake (chocolate tornado) for dessert. Wow, The best overall dining experience we had when in Rome. We were there on a Thursday (their gnocchi day) 18/2. Food was excellent, we started with 2 different ways of artichoke, well made. Then 2 different gnocchi dishes, the highlight was the simple one with just butter and sage. The saying the less the better is evident. Then we had dish of day, beef roulade, again well made home style and rustic. Finally the best ever Tiramasu. Staff was superb, I wish I could give 4,5 stars :-) read more

Amazing food, best we had in Italy. First off, the manager and his sister are amazing. We started with the carpaccio and stuffed zucchini filo dough. We shared the grilled zucchini and eggplant, the porcini fettuccini (which was an extremely generous portion), and grilled thinly sliced steaks (4 large pieces), which was more than enough for us at 8:30 pm at night. We were looking for a nice pleasant quiet restaurant after a long day and we found Hostaria Po on yelp. The restaurant was much more than we expected with amazing service and delicious food. The fondue artichoke crepes were unique and tasty and the curry chicken was pretty good as far as yellow curries I've had. My boyfriend had the pistachio pasta and the thin sliced steak and he enjoyed both. We both really appreciated the unobtrusive yet readily available service and we would both enjoy eating there again. read more
