Horne's was a good find in the Port Royal area, as they offered the cheapest petrol in town - I didn't get a chance to stop in their restaurant and gift shop, as I was on my way to meet a friend for lunch - There seems to be only 1-2 pumps? The one I used had a cracked screen for the price per gallon, but I got a receipt to make sure that the price was as quote (which it was). Easy to get in and out! +cheapest gas +1-2 pumps available

My friend and I were driving from MD to NC and looking for a place to pee, but once we entered Horne's we decided we needed to stay awhile! We grabbed a cozy booth by a window. The place was pretty busy. There were lots of hunters in camo. I figured this was a good sign. If they'd been out in the cold since 4 am and were now choosing to refuel at Horne's it must be good! Waitress brought me a big Diet Pepsi which had the right amount of syrup/carbonation. She was also good about refilling my soda and my friend's coffee. We both ordered the mushroom and Swiss omelette with hashbrowns and gobbled it up. Delicious. Love that bottles of hot sauce and ketchup are just on the table, too. My friend mentioned that the mushrooms were canned instead of fresh but I didn't care. It was easy to pay at the cash register. The place had ice cream, delicious looking cakes, all kinds of chocolates and caramels as well as local jams and jellies. What a fun place! If I lived nearby I'd be a frequent customer.

    The best spot on 301-17!!!

I have passed this restaurant since 1994. I have never been disappointed with my service or food I introduced it to my colleague today and they were thoroughly happy with the results. I didn't even shop the delicious treats but that pineapple upside down cake and ice cream- oh my goodness- I wanted to pull the hit the table gasping for air stunt but I didn't want to scare the customers or employees.Lord willing I will be stopping there when I travel again-- you guys are the best

We stop at Horne's every time we are traveling south on rt 301. Food, service and atmosphere always awesome. Food is tasty and portions substantial. Highly recommend Horne's.

All I Can Say Is... Skip the Fried Food! I tried the fried chicken sandwich, and it tasted like it had absorbed every flavor from the fryer's past month of use. Not exactly what I was hoping for! That said, the cheesesteak sandwich was fabulous--flavorful and well-made. Parking was scarce, and the long wait times had some visitors leaving just as we arrived. We ordered takeout, which saved us hassle. Horne's has a fabulous history, as it started as one store, grew into a chain, only to come full circle and there is only one left. There's something nostalgic about Hornes, even if the food didn't quite live up to expectations this time. THIS WAS TAKEN FROM Horne's Website: Horne's restaurant chain was primarily located in the Southeast and Southern United States. At the chains peak there were over 60 locations. Beginning in the late 40's Horne's started by featuring sit down full service dining as well as lodging, gift shop, ice cream bar and fuel. Many of the over 60 locations were on major highways hence open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Bob Horne founded the first store on October 4, 1948. The original concept was to sell candies, nuts and souvenirs to travelers. By 1956 Horne's chain had expanded to 17 locations in 8 states. That same year Mr. Horne began painting roofs yellow. By 1963 the chain had grown to 44 units. By 1965 there were 60 Horne's locations. The last company owned store closed in 1982. Horne's in Port Royal is the last of the line and still features many of the original designs. We maintain the same core values of great quality and excellent customer service. We highly regard our local customers, our repeat travelers and our single trip customers. With warm welcome come on in have a great meal, browse the gift shop, fuel up and safe travels! With warm welcome come on in have a great meal, browse the gift shop, fuel up and safe travels! As Arnold once said, "I'll be back" and I will order better next time!!

We have driven past this restaurant several times and decided to stop in for a milkshake. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Lots of gifts many of which were unique. The milkshakes were delicious!!

Horne's Restaurant in Port Royal, VA, has been a roadside attraction on my way to family in Newport News for the more than 30 years I have taken that route. I have stopped there occasionally for a pit stop, but this was the first time I actually sat down in their luncheonette style dining room for a meal. Attractive in a 1960's way, with counter service and booths all around, the joint is nicely dated and feels like a living antique. Their menu is substantial, so we ordered coffee before breakfast and took time to peruse the long list of morning possibilities. We ended up with a standard egg, home fries, grits and chicken fried steak request. While everything was good, nothing was outstanding, and the deep fried breaded minute steak arrived too dark brown and past its eat by moment. All consumable, but less than it could have been. Still, atmosphere accounts for something, so Horne's supports its fourth star due to the near museum quality of the overall operation. Service was decent, but on this busy Friday morning, they seemed short a pair of hands both in the kitchen and on the floor.

52 dollars for 3 cheese burgers, fries, onion rings, and 2 drinks. It does not need to be 52 bucks for just that.

The inside consists of expected booths from a variety of retailers that offer a great selection of items. I was able to find jewelry, glassware, art and even candy while there! The store is three stories and you will find something in every corner, we spent almost 2 hours here and I still don't think we saw everything! The service workers there were all very nice and we were reminded that we could ask for help at any point twice which was a welcome kindness! While this store has many sights to take in, the prices are really inconsistent, with some booths feeling very fair in value and other booths selling very similar products for 3x more. One example, would be carnival glass products ranging from $12 - $78 dollars for the same pitcher in different booths. While I know the owners do not control the prices set by retailers this is something to keep in mind. It is hard to tell what is a fair price if you're new to antiquing and you may have to search multiple areas to ensure you are getting a fair price. Some booths were not very organized with bins filled with multiple items, glassware on top of glassware, and jewelry/beads precariously pinned to corkboards which made it difficult to maneuver without fear of messing something up. The store itself is covered everywhere with items which can be somewhat overwhelming and makes it difficult to access and see some items. Especially in certain areas that have tight corners and small walkways due to item placement. As a warning, the store also sells some racial stereotype memorabilia which can be jarring to some shoppers. While it is important to maintain history, it may be more beneficial to have these items in a special area for those seeking them. Overall, Acme Antiques is a fun day if you're used to flea markets, antiquing or thrifting. It may be a bit more overwhelming for first time shoppers but you will not be bored. You could easily get lost and spend multiple hours here. I provided three stars due to the lack of organization in booths, questions of value and difficulties maneuvering around the booths .

The shop features household items, decor, quilts, knitted and woven items, made by local Virginian artisans. There are a few studios in the back where artists-in-residence can be found working on their crafts, and classes available (there was a beading class in session the day I was there.) The clerk was a volunteer, as I think is all the staff, and she was super nice and gave me lots of information about the shop and artists. I bought an adorable knit jellyfish ornament (pictured) even though I was originally planning on just looking. Then I went through to the cafe, also manned by volunteers, these from the culinary guild. They had soups, a salad option, a sandwich option, and some baked goods, mostly already prepared. I got the autumn chopped salad with spring mix, apples, avocado, bacon and a cheddar cheese dressing. It came with a choice of fresh baked bread and I picked a molasses cornbread variety that was AMAZING. The sandwich option, which I did not get, is also worth mentioning because it was a grilled cheese with BACON AND JAM and sounded incredible. My salad was delicious though and I needed some greens in me. The volunteers were all so nice and helpful. I love this place!
