I chose this restaurant based on its location near our hotel by the Oakland Airport. We could have done so much better... I've been to several other RUI locations over the years, had great meals, but this place needs a facelift all around. Everything about it was tired and worn out. Even though we had a reservation and the restaurant was fairly empty, we still had to wait a bit. Started with a Caesar salad, which was pretty standard and nothing special. How is it that I haven't reviewed this place yet?! It's always been one of the places I've enjoyed going for a nice view and yummy food. Similar menu to Skates on the bay. It overlooks the San Leandro Marina so location is beautiful. I've always loved the crab and artichoke dip so that's always a must when we come! I most recently came to order pick up and started having a conversation with the guy ringing me up, he may have been the manager. I saw a flier for a 15% discount for healthcare employees and I mentioned that I was a nurse but didn't have my badge with me. He was so kind and still honored the discount and talked with me about my work during all this covid stuff right now and expressed so much gratitude for the work we do. I have been eating at Horatios for 20 years or more, since before it was remodeled, but last night was probably the worst meal I've ever had there. The bread was stale The prime rib came out before my husband even finished his soup, not cool ! The prime rib was too cold, fatty and tough, probably the worse cut I have had at Horatios. I ordered medium rare but not cold ! I tried the new carrot cake with lime and bourbon , it was not a good combo, I actually sent it back. The waitress tried her best but the food was just not good. We made a reservation for our 29th wedding anniversary and were greeted promptly upon arrival. We were asked to wait while they prepared our table, and while waiting, other personnel kept coming up to us and asking if we were "walk ins", like it was a dirty word. We told them no, we had a reservation and were waiting for our table. Then they proceeded to seat us in the bar instead of the dining room with about 1 inch of room between the back of my head and the person's head at the table next to me. They crammed everyone in these tables when there were plenty of other tables in the bar - they could have spread us out. Plus I didn't really want to sit in the bar. If we had been sat in the dining room, we would have had plenty of room and been way more comfortable. I wish we would have been asked if we would like to sit in the bar. Maybe they should seat the "walk ins" in the bar! The food was fabulous - the service was just OK. The waitress had at least 12 piercings on her face which I felt was inappropriate for a fine dining establishment. With so many, you were just drawn to stare at them. read more

Let me just say this was probably one of the worst experiences i've ever had at a restaurant. We walked into the restaurant there was a long line. The hostess was dealing with other people there's probably about 9 people waiting to get checked in . The hostess was not friendly at all. We told her we had a laundrys card and a reservation . Laundrys card are supposed give you priority setting . We were seated in a loud bar instead of the main restaurant . We asked to move and the manager moved us so that was nice. We had to wait until. A couple tables were cleared. Then they seated us by the window . Like we had a originally requested. They had a valentine's menu. Where was a hundred and twenty for salad entree and dessert. It decided to eat off the main menu. It was twelve dollars for our salads each . It was probably the worst salad I have ever had. It was a walnut pear salad . I didn't see any pears on it. The lettuce was wilted . The salad just didnt taste good . It had no flavor. So if you like bland food come here. My husband ordered the prime rib. He ordered the sixteen ounce prime rib . There's probably the tiniest portion of prime rib i've ever seen. All the people that were getting specials . They all got larger portions than he did. Guess we should have ordered off the special. His prime rib was so gross. It tasted terrible. There's probably about a fourth inch thick. And he's paying fifty dollars for this what a rip off. I chose the rib eye . Boy that was a mistake . I'm like wow this is a large portion. I did not realize that it was gonna be half of it was fat and it was jiggly gross meat. We each had mashed potatoes with armiel but they were super tiny portions. My husband paid $12 for very few little teeny. Tiny vegetables on a tiny plate. We also had some really rude neighbor people that were their friends were standing right next door at table talking loudly for about fifteen minutes. Are waitress should have asked them to leave . You want someone else standing next to your table talking loudly. After we complained about our food , the waitress came over and said she would replace our food . She replaced my husband's prime rib and my rib eye . My rib eye was still jiggly and fat but a little better. My husband's prime portion was much bigger. It didn't taste like lunch meat like it did last time. What it was still very boring. And not the best cut of meat. We had come here for valentine's day what a way to wreck a valentine's day. The one plus was she gave us a bowl of Lobster Bisque . On the house. That was the only thing that was good. My husband ordered coffee to go with his dessert. It wasn't even as good as mcdonald's coffee. I could have had better coffee at home. My husband and I shared the molten cake. I didn't like it my first bite tasted icky. The rest of the bites were bland. The molten cake was small for ten dollars. We shared a glass of cab the was good . Would I ever recommend this place never in my lifetime. Would I ever recommend this place. After tax and tip , we ended up spending two hundred and thirty dollars for two people. What a rip off. Whatever you do please don't go here. There's so many better restaurants anywhere else. We had planned on going to fondue originally but said let's try this place. Mark it down to the worst experience i've ever had. I came here yesterday with my babe and the food was delicious! There were brunch available but we ordered lunch instead because it was my first time here and I was told that their sirloin was really good (and it really was!!!!) We were seated immediately and we were provided with excellent service from beginning of our meal to the end. We were seated by the window and the view was beautiful. I used to love Horatio's. We'd have company meetings here in 2018. It was clean and the food was delicious. I'm not sure what happened but this is not the same place I remember. It's dirty and unimpressive now. We walked in and the hostess was totally ignoring us and talking to the bartender for 5 minutes. When she finally acknowledged us, we asked for a window seat. There were clearly some available. She forgot and tried to set us at a booth. I then asked if we could sit by the window. We read the menu and everything is fried now. I always get a Caesar salad and a ribeye steak. Both are always perfect. The salad is fresh and the dressing is made with real anchovies. The steak is massive and perfectly seasoned. My friend ordered the breaded chicken (forgot what it's called, but the breading had a Parmesan flavor). I liked the sample from her plate a whole lot more than my entire meal. CONS My glass of wine came with a full lipstick imprint from whoever used it prior. The waitress got me a new glass, but I could see that she wiped down that as well. Thee thick smear circling the rim of the glass gave it away. Eye roll*. Cutlery needed a little wipe down. There was no food on it, but it wasn't completely clean either. My meal sounded AMAZING on paper (Sole stuffed with lobster & crab), but the finished product was a huge disappointment. There was little to no flavor. I thought of adding salt but that wouldn't have made it any better. It just wasn't very good. At all. The filling in the creme brûlée was off. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good either. I didn't like the texture and it was a notch too sweet next to the crystallized sugar. A solid 3 stars thanks to the service and beautiful view. Came here for a birthday and had the most perfect time. Loved the historic ambiance. Made a reservation online and was given the most perfect table, a corner at the window with an ocean view. Service was great, from the gentleman who seated us to our server and bussers. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked, but a bit bland, but I'm sure this is their clientele. While staff at the front hostess stand and bar seemed a bit disorganized, our waiter CHAD, was AWESOME. Extremely attentive, friendly, responsive, engaging, energetic, and knowledgeable about the menu and offerings! I'd specially request his section if I return. The restaurant has plenty of seating for parties of all sizes. The menu had some tantalizing selections that made it difficult to choose; some of which involved crab stuffed macadamia nut mahi, macadamia honey Brie, prime rib, short rib, clam chowder, calamari, etc. There was a unique cocktail menu as well: I got a lavender cosmopolitan, and they made it less sweet for me upon request. I took my husband to Horiatios yesterday for his birthday. We are both retired so we arrived around 1:00pm. We had the privilege of being waited on by Morgan who has worked their for over 10 years. Want a nice restaurant that's got great service and good food this is your place. It has never let me down. One of my favorite food items is the crab dip! So yummy and add a lavender cosmo for your drink of choice and your all set. My husband ordered the tomahawk pork chop and I had the 3 cod tacos. Both were excellent. I dont know what happened but I've waited since 1978 to eat here and was very disappointed with the service. My family waited about 60 minutes before deciding to walk out. We got water and salad after about 15 min and bread after about 20. We seen people get served eat and leave and there was no sign of our food. Every time there's a special occasion and our boss decides to treat us out, we pick Horatio's. I really enjoy coming here for their lunch combos. You get to pick two items. I've had their open faced crab sandwich, caesar salad, turkey club, and clam chowder. It also comes with a side of fries. Everything is super tasty! I would recommend any combination of those items I listed. On one occasion, service was excellent. Everything came in a timely manner. I remember our server, Noah, was really kind and attentive. We celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary tonight at Horatio's. We had a lovely time and a great service from our waitress Angela. She was very professional, attentive, and so very personal. We loved her customer service skills. We will definitely go back soon because we enjoyed our experience and we left with a smile on our face. Good customer service to hard to get these days and she was the BEST!!!! The ambiance was great too we were able to be seated at the window which is over favorite spot. Nice location and waterfront views but not the best place to go for a quick meal. Menu items are take a long time to be served. I came here with a friend and we shared three different plates. The Pear Salad and Chicken Dijon were absolutely delicious along with the completely garlic focaccia. However, the tacos were terrible. They look and sounded good but tasted very rancid. I was very eager to try the tacos -- they appeared very delectable but the sauce was not good neither was the coleslaw or guacamole. My friend didn't like them either and we couldn't eat due to the bad taste. She informed the waiter but we were still charged for it despite only taking one bite. Other then that the waitress was very attentive and seemed to be the only server helping all the guest by taking orders, accommodating and serving food. We've been coming to Horatio's for the last 15+ years for special occasions or just to eat out with family. I can honestly say this last weekend will be our last time. Service has gone downhill, lots of waiting, waitress wasn't efficient, didn't check if we needed anything, only came to ask at the end of the meal. Had to ask for bread twice, didn't ask if we'd like drink refills, one trip to take dishes away, another trip just to ask if we'd like to see the dessert menu (2 hours into the meal). Table next to us - there were 2 servers at all times, the lead waitress and another server making sure they had water, drink refills, etc. Those customers were complaining of the service from a previous visit and the staff were all over them. I guess you have to be like that for them to give the service any customer deserves. Food quality was also horrible. Lobster bisque was clumpy, not as creamy as before. Salad sparse and sad, prawns watery (like they were thawed), only the salmon was done right. Coconut shrimp texture and taste wasn't like before. Bolognese pasta was salty (and this coming from a teenager who eats salty snacks). Cost doesn't live up to service and food. No thanks read more

My drink was delicious as well, but most of all the customer service was wonderful.
