I visited the Fogo de Chão in Emeryville this past Mother's Day, drawn in by a $49 special I saw advertised on social media. While the food and service ultimately delivered, the evening was a rollercoaster of logistical hurdles and pricing frustrations. The Wait and Atmosphere I arrived for my 8:00 PM reservation to find the restaurant packed beyond belief. Despite having a confirmed time, I was told there would be a 30-minute delay. I wasn't actually seated until 45 minutes later. The Silver Lining: The staff did an excellent job of managing the restless crowd. While waiting, they brought out complimentary Pão de Queijo (cheese bread), grilled cheese with honey, and sausage. This gesture definitely made the long wait more bearable. The "Bait and Switch" Once seated, the mood shifted. I mentioned the $49 advertisement to our waiter, only to be told that the price did not include the full "Churrasco Experience." To get access to the finer cuts and the variety I expected, the price essentially doubled. It felt like a classic bait-and-switch. Having already waited nearly an hour, I stayed and paid, but ending up with a bill over $100 instead of the advertised $50 left a sour taste in my mouth. The Dining Experience * The Market Table: Because the restaurant was so crowded, the salad bar/buffet area was a bit messy and chaotic. I stuck to rice and fruit to keep my palate fresh for the proteins. * The Meats: The tableside service was incredibly attentive. Despite the crowd, multiple servers checked on my comfort level frequently. While many of the cuts were served more "well-done" than my personal preference, the variety was impressive, and I enjoyed sampling the different styles. * The Sides: I returned from the salad bar to find the table already stocked with mashed potatoes, fried bananas, and yuca fries, which are always a great accompaniment to the meal. Final Verdict The staff at this location works incredibly hard--the service was the highlight of the night. However, the deceptive social media pricing and the over-crowding made the experience feel more stressful than a holiday dinner should be. Pro Tip: If you see a deal online for Fogo, read the fine print carefully, or you might end up paying double what you anticipated.

Costela Beef Ribs lobster tacos yucca fries Brazilian Pao de Queijo - Cheese Bread (12 ea.)

The all day happy hour was a hit. It was a chilly day but we scored a table on Saturday for dinner. The waitress took a while to arrive, but when she did, she was the best. We got the beef ribs, yucca fries, spicy chicken sliders, and lobster cabbage tacos. The medium rib and sliced meat were amazing in taste and portion size. The warm Brazilian bread made me happy. The sliders were unforgettable, unfortunately. But we enjoyed the seafood tacos with sauce on the side. The hot yucca fries with Parmesan were good with the slightly tangy sauce. We also got a 90 calorie passion spritzer that was not bad. And we had leftovers! Would come back

I think this is the longest time we stayed in a restaurant because of our long wait time to be served the meat :-( Food is good, they have good sides and the place is clean but I just don't feel like it's worth the money we spent bec we did not have our fill... been to several churascaria places & specifically Fogo de Chao in SF, but this one is different

Nice ambiance and tasty food, but management needs to do better with front of house training. We came in as a party of six and our reservation was at 6:30 and we arrived at 6:17 last night (4/25/26). Right when we walked in, the hostess gave my wife an odd look. After we mentioned our reservation time, we all had the feeling like she was very unpleasant or unhappy with her job the way she said the table was not ready yet and they were still preparing it. We get it, it was busy and a hectic saturday night. We didnt think much of it and was more focus on my father in law trying to maneuver around with a walker. Once seated, our server seemed new but was at least polite. However, plates kept piling up. We tried to flag him down three times and he said he would come back but never cleared them. We got water refills about three times over the two hours we were there, which was fine, but the bigger issue was space. We ordered bottles of wine, cocktails, and dessert, so we were there for a while, but the table was never managed properly. When the seafood tower and bone marrow came out, we really had no room left. We asked one of the guys who were cleaning up the table next to us if we could place dishes on the empty table there for now and he said yes, so we moved a couple plates. Then the same hostess came over and approached my wife in an aggressive tone, saying, "If you want us to take the plates, just let us know because we have to get this table ready for the next guests!," while shaking her head, rolling her eyes and reluctantly removing the plates. The energy felt like being talked down to like a strict teacher talking to a kid. I understand they need to turn tables and keep things moving, but the way it was handled came off a little rude and unnecessary. At the time my wife decided to let it go, but after we talked about it, it definitely affected the experience. Throughout the night it was a little noticeable she kept coming by to check if we were done, which made us feel rushed and unwelcome. Anyhow, that is not how a hostess or front face of the restaurant should speak to customers lol

Came here with a few coworkers who were in town for a team offsite. They were craving steak, and since there weren't many options near our hotel, we decided to check this place out. We weren't quite hungry enough to do AYCE, so we ordered à la carte instead. We went with the lobster and shrimp tower appetizer, dry-aged tomahawk, lobster mac and cheese, and yuca fries. Surprisingly, the lobster mac and cheese completely stole the show--it was the standout dish of the night. The tomahawk was good and cooked perfectly, with great quality meat. I just wish it was seasoned a bit more. They do provide salt and chimichurri sauce, but it still felt like it was missing that extra something flavor-wise. And don't skip the complimentary cheese bread! It comes out warm and is absolutely delicious. Definitely ask for butter--we couldn't stop eating these, lol. Overall, it was a nice meal, plenty of food, and we even had leftovers. If you're really hungry, I'd recommend going for the full experience so you can enjoy the salad bar too.

Had a group brunch there today. The restaurant is clean and not crowded, salad bar is constantly refreshed, a little sad that near the end of our meal they ran out of dragon fruit and pineapples! I was waiting until the end of the meal to get some . Service for the meat was on the slow side, sirlons and prime ribs were good but the filet mignon was leathery and dry.

We truly could not have asked for a better experience hosting our event at the Emeryville location. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. The venue and room were not only beautifully set up but also perfectly situated, making it easy and convenient for our guests traveling from both San Francisco and the East Bay. The thoughtfulness behind the space and flow of the event did not go unnoticed. Scarlett was nothing short of phenomenal. She was an absolute joy to work with, exceptionally attentive, proactive, and genuinely invested in making our event a success. Every request, no matter how big or small, was met with enthusiasm, professionalism, and care. Her ability to anticipate needs and manage details seamlessly made the entire process feel effortless on our end. The food was outstanding, delicious, beautifully prepared, and widely praised by our guests. Equally impressive was the wait staff, who were warm, gracious, and impeccably attentive throughout the event. Their promptness, friendliness, and commitment to service made everyone feel truly welcomed and taken care of. We are incredibly grateful to the entire team for delivering such an exceptional experience. Our deepest thanks go to Scarlett, Morello, Jojo, Stephanie, Saul, Will, Kliffer, Marcus, Jayden, and Michael for their incredible teamwork, professionalism, and hospitality. It was clear that everyone took great pride in what they do, and it made a lasting impression on all of us. This was an outstanding event in every way, and we would be absolutely delighted to host another event with you again very soon.

We had a reservation to celebrate a birthday, and this was our first time trying Fogo de Chao at the East Bay location. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a disappointing experience when compared to the Fogo in SF. Check-in was quick, but once we were seated, we ordered drinks from our server, and they never arrived. The food was overly salty, and the chefs were slow with the tableside carvings. At certain points, we didn't see any staff serving meat at all. The Market Table was decent and offered a wide selection of seasonal salads, fresh veggies, cured meats, and other dishes. Aside from that, our server never checked in with us, and we didn't see her again for the rest of the evening. When it was time to request the bill, we waited 40 minutes, and no one came. Eventually, we had to walk to the reception desk at the front and ask the staff there to bring our check. It's unbelievable to want to pay and have absolutely no one assisting you.

Mel N.

Always great place to get your craving a steak fix! Lol You control the flow of incoming food! Live the cheese bread! The also serve polenta stick and mashed potato and fried bananas! We had the our favorite the filet served twice! We also link the lamb chops and lamb picana ! I have been to many other locations and this is one of my favorites ! I will continue to dine at this chain of fine steak offerings!

Rio California in Preservation Park with all the rows of Victorian houses is a peaceful and serene venue which I have chosen. My dining experience with Rio California has always been great during lunch hours. The walk from the State Building during the summer season with a few of my coworkers was a getaway and go to place to relax and enjoy. The outdoor patio area was perfect. I have been away from this restaurant (hidden gem) far too long. The last time I had lunch here was back in 2001. Yes, I said 2001 - over 24 years ago. My favorite lunch at that time was the fritata. According to the owner, the employee who prepared the fritata left in 2012. Thus. fritata is no longer on the menu. However, I was eager to try something on their menu, the jerk chicken, which came with rice and salad. I am impressed that Rio California has expanded the indoor dining area. My male companion and I sat in another room. The ambiance was quite comfortable and offered some privacy, which was away from the front entrance and kitchen area. How was the jerk chicken? The boneless chicken breast was moist and excellent. The seasoning had a spicy kick and the rice was the perfect side. I must admit the mixed green salad was refreshing infused with a cilantro garlic dressing. (Nice balance of salad greens and dressing.) My male companion had the grilled tilapia with rice and salad. I'm glad he enjoyed his lunch and ate all of it. He was quietly enjoying his lunch. Return visit? Yes! Yes! Yes! Most likely when the weather is warm, as in the summer season.

Not only did we strike up a conversation with Carolina (the owner) but man she was just wonderful. It is so refreshing to see someone so cheerful and passionate about their job. Ham and cheese 10/10 - the amounts of ham added to the empanada was surprising. Usually, I find it hard to get enough filling but it was just enough. Veggie 9/10 - spinach, corn, squash, mushroom. The seasoning on this was amazing, and before I knew it I was more than halfway through it. Apple empanada - was a nice little treat. Omg! They have Peruvian beer and I love that for me because it's delicious, and also very uncommon! My only regret is not getting more empanadas (you can get a pack to go that is frozen), because they had some many options.

On our first 20 mile drive to visit, they blocked us at the inside of the unlocked front door at 3:12pm. Street parking can be difficult but a short drive\walk distance about a block away is a $3 an hour parking garage. The place looks clean and not too busy. We sit and our waitress Yanira M was perfect. Very nice, patient and attentive. We three shared two carne asada dinners with rice and refried red beans, two coffees, a coke and three pupusas. $101.36 before tip. The menu was confusing to us. First, the use of the menu words "red refried beans" confused us as refried beans have never been red in our lifetimes and these were pretty standard brown pinto bean looking and tasting. Maybe less confusion if they were called refried red beans. Then, we thought dinners came with pupusas. No. They came with two each thick tortillas (same as half pupusas with no filling as I could tell.) I enjoyed these thick homemade tortillas. The steak was not bad but I wish it had been served with its sizzle in tact. Salsa and coleslaw came as condiments though they might have been introduced with different names by Yanira. The coleslaw was a nice touch-served in a small jar with serving tongs. The salsa was tasting a bit like the V8 vegetable juice that you had as a kid or teen if you are a boomer. This meal could have really used some homemade spice sauce to add some kick to it. The main negatives today were the high music level at the back where we sat. That, and a busser man dragging some screeching and protesting chairs across the floor - to set up for a large party I believe. Real ear busters. The best part of the meal was the piping hot pupusas and our coffee. I would go back for those.

It is quintessential fine dining where each of their 8 courses are exquisitely prepared in front of you (there's a LARGE open kitchen which takes up most of the restaurant) and served to you over 2.5 hours. The flavors are AMAZING and so unique...Top 3 Standouts were the Duck with grilled ramps and papaya (seriously best duck I've ever had), the Kanpachi Crudo with habanero (I was scared of this but they totally tamped down the heat with carrots and pineapple and added sunflower seeds for crunch), and the flan which was impossibly THIK and smooth (best flan I've ever had hands down). Also really enjoyed the made-in-house guava sorbet and pavlova (which tasted like crispy honeycomb). Super relaxed atmosphere with friendly, unpretentious service. The only down side was that it WAS fine dining so each dish is extremely small and it does take a long time between courses. I had just worked out and I tend to eat very little before 5 pm, work out arduously and then backload my calories but this was a horrible idea as I ended up STARVING and feeling light-headed...Good thing my wife is always prepared and brings snack packs in her purse HAHA! They also checked a note on my reservation before we even started, which made the service feel very intentional from the beginning. I did the tasting menu with the wine pairing, and what stood out to me most was how thoughtful the experience felt overall. The first dish -- roasted eggplant -- surprised me because I don't usually eat eggplant, but it was actually really good. There was a garlic yogurt that brought everything together perfectly. As the meal went on, some of the dishes actually got better as I kept eating them, especially with the pairings. The cod was one of those -- not my favorite at first bite, but by the end, it completely made sense. The duck was the standout. The crust on it was incredible, and the meat just melted in your mouth. They even changed my pairing for that course, which I really appreciated -- it showed they were paying attention. Dessert was good, just not my favorite since I'm not big on chocolate, but the banana element was nice and it was still a solid finish. Overall, this is one of those places where it's really about the experience, not just the food. The food is great, but the pacing, pairings, and attention to detail are what make it worth it. I would definitely recommend trying it at least once -- and I'd come back when the menu changes.
