I recently visited Hops and Hogs country smoked restaurant and I was blown away by the unique concept of BBQ for breakfast! The ambiance and service was warm and welcoming, with a rustic charm that sets the tone for a hearty meal. The menu offers an impressive variety of breakfast options, all with a BBQ twist. I opted for the pit master hash, which a variety of BBQ meats with two eggs and country potatoes. I also opted for the country biscuit and sooooo glad I did. It was warm, fluffy and simply delicious . I look forward to returning for lunch and dinner. I could only imagine how great their BBQ sandwiches or platter is going to be. Awful. Just awful. This is not a real smokehouse. It is barely a restaurant. It's a glorified coffee shop. It's weird. Sells fountain ice cream and breakfast. This would not be bad if the food was decent. Not even close to decent. In and out burger would be fine dining compared to this. Arnold Palmer- made with powder lemonade Chips and queso- stale rubbery chips Wedge salad- minimal bacon and onions. No blue cheese in the place. They brought me feta. Blue cheese dressing tasted sweet and fake. Brisket- dry chopped meat seasoned with liquid smoke flavoring. Terrible. The tasted lasted in my mouth. The only good thing about Hops & Hogs was our server. Food was terrible! Meat was fatty and dry. Some of the fries were not cooked. How you can mess up a chopped salad I will never understand, but they managed that well. Charged 3 dollars extra for carrots and cucumbers and there were only 2 cucumber slices on the whole salad. I was hoping for a good BBQ place here in Lincoln. This is definitely not the place. read more

My wife and I went for breakfast this morning. We went early to beat the weekend breakfast rush. I have eaten at the location before when it was a different breakfast place. I like the way that the decor has been changed, and that it is a smoke house feel. Although we went for breakfast, we checked it out for lunch or dinner on a different day. The place has a bar, and also live music some of the days of the week. I had pork belly and eggs, and my wife had beef brisket and eggs. We made a couple of substitutions to our breakfast, which they cheerfully changed. Both of our meals were great. I am a backyard smoker, so I know a little about smoking meats. The brisket we had was the 2nd best(mine being #1),we have had. The brisket was flavorful and moist. This place beats the other smoking restaurants and food trucks in the area. The pork belly was great also. It was crispy outside and moist on the inside. Both are served without being drowned in sauce to cover imperfections. They are served with BBQ sauce on the side. The BBQ sauce is also good, buy I like my brisket and pork belly dry, without sauce, to get the flavor of spices and meat. A note for people saying the food is bland, it might not be seasoned to your liking, but I felt it was seasoned well. It's hard to season food to match everyone's taste. Breakfast is currently be served on weekends before 1130 AM, then it's lunch. Our server was Susana. We were greeted immediately upon arriving, and escorted to our booth. Susana was very attentive to us with coffee and water right away. Susana answered our questions, or asked the owner about our questions. Susana was great. The owner stopped by our table to check on us also. I was able to talk to the owner about is smoking process for the meats. He was very knowledgeable about smoking. This is a local family owned and run business. I would suggest that when you come in, have some patients and understanding as the is a family business and not a large chain business. Husband and I tried Hops and Hogs for dinner one evening last week. We always loved the ambiance of Kim's Country Kitchen, the place hasn't changed very much. Our server was attentive and very nice, she did a great job. The food was really good. We both had the one-item smokehouse tray - mine with chicken and hubby had brisket. Both were very tasty and cooked well, the only problem was the portion size of the meats. For $15 I got a smallish chunk of chicken breast and a good portion of onion rings. For $18 hubby got a palm-sized pile of sliced brisket and a small dish of ranch beans. We also ordered fries to share. Both meats were flavorful and cooked well. The fries and onion rings were great, and the ranch beans (also a pretty small portion) were... ranch beans. Will probably go back again and get the two-item tray, which will cost around $5 more each, when we want to 'splurge' a bit. read more

We wanted to like it but unfortunately it didn't work out for us. We tried it back in august for breakfast and it wasn't good. Chicken fried steak is a premade breaded patty of mystery meat with a flavorless gravy. We decided to go back to give it one more try for lunch. Unfortunately again another terrible food experience. First off we came here because we saw them on Good Day Sacramento and wanted to support a new local business that was a mistake. The service was okay but the food was terrible. It makes no sense. The shrimp and grits were awful and I just ordered a wedge salad with brisket on top. Who puts avocado and carrots on a wedge salad? And the only reason I ordered that was because they ran out of RIBS and they weren't busy at all. My wife had the shrimp and grits and it looked more like shrimp and brown soup, it was awful. We ordered the cheese curds and they came with a Carmel sauce which is weird having sweet as an appetizer. The corn ribs were okay but then again they had a sweet taste. Not what you want as an appetizer. This place needs to step back and figure out what it is doing because this isn't working. The owner needs to be more involved and she should not just be there sitting and hanging out with the staff. read more

Well, it took a few months but I returned for lunch recently. I had a really excellent smoked brisket sandwich with side, and was very impressed. For food, I have to say I'm now at 4 stars. Service was great too - no complaints there. For beer, once again half the menu was not available; the good news was there was a beer that I wanted but there's no point in having a beer menu that's only half available. I liked the beer I had, but it was the only choice I had, and, IMHO, this is the easy part of running a beer and BBQ place. So for the 'hop's part I have to stick with 2 stars. Overall, I'll average it out at 3 stars. Enjoyed the food but the lack of beer menu is annoying and can't be written off as teething problems. I will be back - hopefully next time the beer menu issues will be cleared up, but, owners, please remember I had one choice of beer - one beer away from me sticking with water - if not for that I would have gone with two stars! read more

I had the 3 meat tray with brisket, pastrami and pork belly and they we are all very bland and not cooked good at all and this meal was not cheap! The pastrami looked good but was as tough as shoe leather and I could barely cut or chew it! The pork belly was over cooked, and the most bland pork belly I ever had. The potato salad was also bland, but the ranch beans were good. My BF got a burger and he liked it and the onion rings were very good, but as for the bbq I had, it was terrible. I brought home the left overs and gave them to my cats. If you are looking for amazing bbq, this ain't it and just save your hard earned money. Our server was very nice and professional so I did not have my meal returned and my bf liked his food, but I lost interest in eating anything there and I could not wait to leave. Instead, I will just not return and share my experience here. If I see Hops and Hogs ratings go up, I will give them another try. Otherwise, I will not spend 1 dime there again. My experience was quite the opposite and I have no reason to embellish. There are so little bbq places near Lincoln and this one is top notch, I've had Kansas BBQ and this place could go shoulder to shoulder with them. The ice cream is off the hook. I really really wanted to love this place. My first experience was a takeout order. We ordered the pulled pork tray. Upon getting home, we discovered a small portion of pulled pork, no pickles, no tortillas. We just chalked it up to someone bringing our order before it was complete. A few days later, we decided to try it again. This time, sitting in. We ordered the corn ribs as an appetizer. Husband ordered the rib tray and I ordered a brisket salad. Husband said his ribs weren't tender, bbq sauce was kinda off. The brisket on my salad was basically the fat part, no meat. Eww. And the corn ribs came after our meal was brought out. We were sitting by where the food comes out of the kitchen and listened to the wait staff arguing with the kitchen staff about another customer asking for more tortillas. Looking at the menu online, we were excited to try this place. Their choices of hash sounded great. My husband and I both ordered the Pit Master Hash with 3 different meats included. He got the pancake ( says it's included in the price, but they tried to charge an upcharge for it) and I got an English muffin. Our son got the chicken and waffles. It took over 40 minutes to get the food and when it finally came, we were very disappointed. The portion size of the hash was very minimal and since potatoes are mixed in you do not get any on the side. The taste was excellent, though. It cost $17.95 and we left hungry. The food is good and the service was OK. The waitress doesn't know the menu. There was only one place setting for 2 people. I ordered the two meat combo for 26.95 tri tip and grilled chicken. I got about 6 very thinly sliced pieces of tri tip 1/2 was fat and four slices of chicken! The prices are outrageous for the very small amount of food! Pickles were suppose to come with the meal. Had to ask for them. 2 small tortillas come with the meal. They were OK but again for the price I think it should be corn bread. I understand everything is more expensive these days but if your going to charge more don't cut the food in 1/2!! read more
