My first call went unanswered, and there wasn't an answering service. On my second call, I was able to leave a voicemail. When I called Pain Killers, a kind woman answered within two rings. I explained that I was looking for a venue to host a memorial gathering. She let me know that the person who could best assist me wasn't available but offered to take my number and have them return my call. Within 30 minutes, Austin called me back. We discussed what we were looking for, and as you can imagine, it's not an easy conversation to have with someone you've never met. From the very beginning, Austin's kindness and compassion stood out. His exact words were, "We want to be here for you during this difficult time." Those weren't just words--I could genuinely feel his sincerity, not only during that phone call but in every text message we exchanged over the following week. Each time I reached out, I'd say, "Ok, Austin, last question," only to think of another one shortly afterward. No matter how many times I contacted him, he remained patient, understanding, and accommodating. He answered every question, responded promptly, and never once made me feel like I was asking too much. In the end, it was decided to keep the entire day's gathering at a church rather than the mortuary, so we didn't end up going to Pain Killers. Even so, I wanted to recognize Austin for the exceptional level of customer service and genuine compassion he showed during one of the most difficult times. The next time I'm in the Rocklin area, I plan to stop by, say hello to Austin, and make sure to give Pain Killers some well-deserved business. Thank you, Austin, for reminding me that kindness and empathy still go a long way.

First thing you noticed is the bread was not toasted at all. It had a couple of brown stripes on one side only. When you open the sandwich, the lettuce was wilted, and the tomato was absolute mush, like it had been old and laying around for hours. The worst thing, though, were the avocados. 2/3 of the avocados were dark,gray or black. Obviously not a good avocado, but yet they managed to cut it up and serve it. And the last thing that was disappointing, was the fact that the bacon was in one wad in the center of the sandwich and not laid out on the sandwich. Just a wad that had to be disassembled and spread out. It looks and feels and sounds to me that that kitchen needs some discipline. Don't use old food! If the client asked for mayo, put it on the damn sandwich like they requested. Everything points to that cook being in one heck of a hurry as it was obvious everything was done down and dirty with little to no concern or care for presentation or freshness. I called this evening to let the manager know and I will call the general manager tomorrow. I believe they said his name was Joe? This is my second time at Maguire's as a local and I'm absolutely not impressed. There's a sign up when you walk in that says please wait to be seated. There are a couple of benches there so I sat down and waited yet I could not get the attention of anybody. It wasn't that busy. A few people walked in and managed to get seated. I talked to a couple of the waitresses asking if I could check on my to go order and was met with I'll get back to you. Eventually, I cornered one of the gals and there was my to go order sitting in a bag next to their Station. It was explained that the artwork of forks is how the restaurant got its name, combined with four courses. Thus, Fourk. The food is based on a local farm to fork concept, so everything is high quality and fresh. There is only one seating time. There's one menu per month, seasonally chosen ingredients, with a choice of two entrees. Otherwise, the four course menu is set. There are wine pairings, "classic" and "premium". We tried both and they are equally good choices. There's also a wine list which also has excellent selections. Reservations are needed. Check online for the menu details. Our meal started with a watermelon salad which was quite tasty and refreshing. So nice and light for a warm summer day. Next came a corn soup that had to be the creamiest and most delicious corn soup I've ever had. YUM! The flavors melded so well together with a variety of ingredients to make it complex. The addition of peppers (I believe Pablano) really added a nice light kick. I chose the filet mignon and prawns as my entree which came with asparagus. The filet minon was exceptional. It cut like butter and flavored to perfection. The prawns, as well, were very satisfying. Dessert topped it off nicely and I had it with a cup of coffee. The coffee was high quality and brewed well. The dessert was a sliced peach with a whipped cream and nuts. Simple but very good. Overall, a very pleasant experience. It's a place to go with friends for an upscale meal or perhaps to celebrate something special. I will definitely return!
