I came here for the second time to get BBQ pork to bring to a friend in Victoria. What a disappointment! This time the meat was tougher meaning a different part of the pig. My fault for not buying a small piece to eat before buying. I thought about getting a soy chicken but not for $30 as it was small. Beware of the portion you request as they add more than you asked for. They're going cheap with the quality of meat and with the containers. They wanted to put the meat in a plastic bag! Seriously! Note it's a cash only place. We won't be going back. They're located on the second level where T&T is located off First Ave.

Went here because Chinatown BBQ opened too late to fit our schedule, other reviews compared it to HK BBQ Master which we tried a few days earlier so it seemed a worthy competitor. Tiny family owned spot which is take out only now despite still saying dine in/take out on the window. We ordered 2 combo boxes (duck, bbq pork/crispy pork & duck, soy chicken & crispy pork), both cost between 15-20. Overall they were very generous portions, dare I even say too much rice. I would give HK BBQ Master the edge however because of the dine-in option and their crispy pork is more traditional, this place is more like a pork rind skin but nonetheless both were tasty and deserve business. The female owner told me if I wanted to dine in to go next door and order from there since it was the same owner and they get their bbq from them, i went to check and they said yes same owner but you eat their food. Possible misunderstanding lol.

One of the best roasted pork in lower mainland. It is located in a busy business area, free parking and to go only. I went here based on a friend's recommendation,we Filipinos we love anything roasted,in our country there are several ways to roast a pork by oven, open fire or fried, the best is the one that is cooked in an open fire, and what is available in hopewell is very close to that...,tender meat and the skin is very crispy, looks like it it was fried but sumtotal I like it. Small place and sell combo foods aswell, prizes I noticed is by pound.$1299/lb for the roasted pork) no sauce included thats the missing in the marketing. Not very clean flooring when I came, somewhat sticky, but not bad aswell,bi lingual crew. All the meat were displayed hanging so you can see how fresh are they, smells good aswell. They cut and slices your orders depending on your preference. I will return here specially when I have visitors at home for lunch or dinner.

Who whould've thought that this plain looking store would be so beautiful on the inside. HK BBQ Master has some serious competition. Parking is available in the nice large strip mall parking lot. Be sure to park on the upper floor, as that is where the store is located. The place isn't much of a restaurant, unless one wants BBQ on rice. I honestly can't decide which place has better BBQ meat. I had both the duck and the pork, and both of them have made me a better person. Just thinking about this place makes me want to cry. Give this place a try before it gets too famous and the hordes show up. Highly recommended.

This was my first time trying this place. It's a small place with few seating you could eat in or take out. Probably best to take out though. It looks really old inside and not that clean... Some might say it gives it character or that it's more authentic who knows though lol. Anyways we ordered two bbq plates which you can pick two different kinds of bbq on rice. I ordered bbq pork & soy chicken. I've really been into that soy chicken lately with that ginger scallion sauce. I asked the man if I could get an extra sauce on the side and he said "No it's inside already" we told him we would pay for it and then he gave it to us. Yeesh just charge us and give it to us man. Lol So later I got home and tried the food it comes with some cabbage on the bottom and only a teenie tiny bit of that dam ginger sauce. I would of been so disappointed if I hadn't forced the extra ginger sauce. I was so happy I had the extra! ( order the extra sauce don't be a fool) Taste wise it was good but, I wish they gave me. More chicken. My husbands bbq pork was a little dry unfortunately he got the shit end of the bbq pork. I think I'd have to come back and try the crispy pork & duck another day.

BBQ Duck has thin skin and super juicy meat. Unreal!

Hopewell delivers high quality Chinese BBQ meat similar to top notch butcher shop in old days Chinatown. It's a place for those who look for value and not refinement, as long as the taste and texture is right. We ordered "fat cut" BBQ pork, Roast Pork and BBQ Duck. They were all very tasty, but were chopped too big, making such a perfectly marinated and roasted meat that could have been suitable for Dine Chinese dining into something that is fitting for very "coarse" way of eating- hence o deduct one star. BBQ pork has aromatic rose wine in marinate and perfectly roasted that even the end cuts are tasty and juicy (something very hard to do). The honey was caramelized till hardened, but I find it a bit too sweet. BBQ Duck has thin crispy skin and super succulent meat that is unseen in any other bbq place including HK BBQ Master. If it weren't cut to 1-inch thick pieces which made it feel coarse and cheap, this would have been the perfect BBq meat dish. Roast Pork has similar wafer crispy skin as HK BBQ Master but just a little less wafer-like. The "fat" cut is more like the medium fat cut, so in general I could say this place serves pretty lean meat. For optimum taste, always go for "fat cut". Taste is 100% on point, full of umami and not too salty. There are seating inside but you will be charged $2 extra per dish. The cashier lady is often under stress and do 't expect super nice and kind attitude in her demeanor. Whole Roast Pig is available for $230 as of Aug 2019z overall, prices in this place is App 15% lower than Hk BBQ pork and Chinatown BBQ. Prices posted in the takeout counter is mostly per pound. There are also rice dishes with bbq meat. Although the meat was not presented at their best, the more than reasonable price made up for it and I enjoyed eating all three meats in my car very much. Will definitely be back. My criteria -food taste 4/5 -food freshness 5/5 -service 3/5 -decor or dining experience 3/5 -value 5/5 Total 20/25=80

If your looking for the Best BBQ pork and Crispy skinned pork in the city, this little Chinese gem is your meal ticket. On special occasions, during Chinese New Year, and other festive times of the year, this place has a line up of people wanting there beautifully cooked meats. A small little place located on the second floor of First Avenue Plaza, it's not really the easiest to spot, but even I stop by to treat myself to some of their meats, as you can do a combo meal here, with a couple slices of meat and rice, or if your like me, and need to bring it home, just buy half a pound of whatever cooked meat they are selling. I recommend this place over some of the best cooked meat places in the city, and make the effort to stray away from T & T's so called cooked meat selection to come here. I even start eating a bit before I get home.

A Gastronomic Awakening in Chinatown! You don't truly know…read moreuntil you go--and now that I've been, I'm haunted. As I write this, I am literally still dreaming of the Hong Kong Style BBQ Pork. It didn't just "eat" well; it dissolved into a decadent, sweet, fatty puddle of pure bliss. Walking in, the vibe is quintessential Chinatown: a bustling counter, a glass case showcasing glistening roasted treasures, and a seating area that trades fancy decor for pure, functional authenticity. We were clearly out of our element, probably looking like deer in headlights, but the staff met our confusion with warm smiles. Then came Bobby--the absolute heart and soul of this place. We walked in expecting the standard American-Chinese routine, but Bobby whisked us away to a cozy table and treated us like family. He started us off with a fragrant jasmine tea so naturally sweet and floral it didn't need a grain of sugar--perfect for a biting winter night. While we flirted with the Happy Hour menu, Bobby took the reins. You don't say no to a man with that much charisma and passion! On his expert recommendation, we pivoted to the Two-Meat Combo (BBQ Pork + Soy Chicken) with a side of their famous Roast Duck. The food arrived in a lightning-fast 10 minutes, but the real treat was Bobby's play-by-play on how each dish was prepared. You can taste the pride in every bite. The balance was masterclass: a symphony of sweet, salty, and umami. The meats were succulent, the skins were shattery-crisp, and the glazes were perfectly sticky. The undisputed heavyweight champion, however, was that Hong Kong BBQ Pork. Imagine the best "burnt ends" of your life, drenched in a caramelized, mouth-watering sauce that demands your full attention. We left Chinatown BBQ feeling more than just sated--we felt enlightened. If you're looking for a "one in a million" meal, let Bobby order for you. You won't regret it.

The char siu and soy sauce chicken were both cooked perfectly, moist and flavorful. The green scallion sauce was not necessary but it was still delicious ! Would've been great over rice. The extra fatty char siu the server gave me to try was over the top! Perhaps the best char siu I've had to date. My server, Bobby? Did a fantastic job and was very informative and I can tell he really likes what he does thru his enthusiasm

With about 9-10 people per table, we were treated to what felt like at least ten courses. There wasn't much time for photos, as conversation and catching up naturally took precedence. The standouts were the seafood fried rice and the green onion lobster and crab stir-fry -- rich, comforting, and generously flavoured, the kind of dishes that quietly anchor a long meal. It was a busy holiday weekend, and the restaurant was packed. Our original 7:00 p.m. reservation was delayed until 8:00 p.m., leaving many of us waiting outside in the cold. Once seated, the pacing felt off, with dishes arriving out of sequence, which gave the meal an oddly disjointed rhythm. A small apology or update from the staff would have been welcome, but none came. Overall, the food was very tasty, and I would consider returning -- particularly to explore more of their seafood offerings.

However, what truly disappointed me was the poor service. Even though the restaurant was not busy, the dishes were served very slowly. The first 2 dishes came out fast, but the later 2 dishes came out after 45 min. When we asked for additional rice and water, we had to wait an unusually long time. Throughout the meal, we felt neglected. It was hard not to feel that the level of service was noticeably indifferent, possibly because we did not order any high-priced seafood or premium dishes. For a restaurant at this price point, the service was simply unacceptable. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. I would not return and would not recommend it.
