There were no surprise extra charges and he finished on budget and within the promised timeframe, even though I had him do a completely unrelated garage window replacement in the middle of the job! I wouldn't hesitate to hire Kay again for any job big or small, and I will be recommending him to anyone who is looking to do a home project.

While that was an unwelcome surprise, I felt extremely fortunate that Corneliu was the one who discovered and ultimately fixed the problem. This issue was neglected by another contractor who had done siding work previously for me. Corneliu fixed everything the RIGHT WAY at a very fair price and worked as late as 7:30pm, long after the sun had gone down, to ensure everything was done before the next storm rolled in. I'll be hiring Corneliu for a bathroom remodel later this year and anything else that may come up!

We wanted a door installed in the interior of our home. Cornel arrived, measured the space, explained the different styles, asking what we'd like. Then he went to the hardware store himself, took photos of all of the options that fit our criteria, and texted us the options so we could choose, saving me time from having to go to the store myself. He also went above and beyond by offering to fix the opposite side of the door frame, which was ugly before the project started. We didn't even think it was an option to fix that. Cornel installed the door, painted it, and fixed the trim on both sides, on the same day. The final result is absolutely perfect. It's beautiful, and the quality is stellar. We will certainly be using Smart Construction again in the future for home projects that we can't do ourselves.

I individually interpreted his responses at several points in our phone conversation to be confirming to me that he was, in fact, a structural engineer. I did not go ahead with the appointment, because he grew evasive when I requested to be able to confirm his licensing status in advance of our meeting (he had agreed to bring his licensing info to the meeting). I finally looked online myself, and to the best of my ability to judge, his engineer license appears to have expired in August, 2002. Please also note that the license for the contracting company listed on this Yelp page appears to also have expired in 2021. (In our phone conversation, he indicated having come out of retirement, and that he was part of a new company. However, I did not receive enough information to independently verify that.)

When I was ready to move ahead on the project, Aaron came out to see the site and submitted the proposal. Before starting work, he returned to verify measurements and the layout. When the cabinet was ready, he and Kevin came out and did the installation. They also took the cabinet that was there and moved it downstairs and repaired two of the doors, so it is now useable. I had forgotten that I was supposed to order the hardware to match what we already had. Aaron took photos and placed the order and returned and installed the hardware when it arrived. Wise Choice uses a platform for selecting materials and so forth that was great in theory, rather questionable in practice, and our wires got crossed more than a few times. The time issue was simply that the projects took a bit longer than we'd planned. The time problem though was at least partly our fault (changing our minds about design, etc), and that was compounded by suppliers actually sending the wrong product on occasion, so certainly not all a Wise Choice issue. Other than that, they were great to work with, very pleasant people all around, very conscientious (cleaning up work spaces thoroughly every day), and the entire project came in under budget! We first learned about Wise Choice through Yelp, and although we were initially nervous about choosing a contractor for such a large job (they gave us the best estimate, by far!) without a personal recommendation, we couldn't be happier with our decision. They were great to work with throughout the entire process, from architectural and engineering plans, permitting, and the actual construction. The project manager, Sergiy, and foreman, Bogdan, were very honest, helpful, and responsive every step of the way. The project was completed pretty much on budget (with only a couple of unforeseen issues outside of their control) and on time.
