Inside work: remodeling two bathrooms with walk-in showers and custom shelving, replacing all the trim throughout the house to give it a more modern look, resurfacing wood surfaces, painting all the interior doors, replacing flooring downstairs with luxury waterproof vinyl flooring, replacing subfloors, installing electrical fixtures throughout the house, and building custom shelving for closets and bathrooms -- even a custom cubby closet with a plantation door. Beyond the quality of the work, Val and the team are just great people to work with. They're professional, hardworking, and always positive. My mother contacted them to have her bathtub insert replaced with a walk in shower insert. Simple, right? We had some examples from Home Depot for $1500-$2500 (minus labor). The rebath sales rep came out and truly attempted to hard sell my 80 year old mother in spending 16k to replace her shower. Just. The. Shower. Thankfully I was there for the pitch and promptly kicked her out after she told me it couldn't be done for less, that I (who's remodeled many homes) didn't know what I was talking about and their " proprietary" material was so far superior to anything found elsewhere. Please. It's fiberglass. They might do decent work, but you can do soooo much more for the money and get a higher quality product. I'm having the shower redone with quartz slab for less than half the price. They're so close to a scam it's offensive. I feel bad for the elderly they prey on who don't have attentive adult children looking out for them.

We will not be working with Better Call Carl again. Last November, we hired him to perform a…read more"bathroom refresh". Hooked us in with a great price and great initial communication. On the first day on the renovation, we went through all the details of changes we wanted to make with his team. Somehow, these details never came to fruition. They did a great job with the drywall, painting, and tub installation - however, their tile work in the shower is subpar (the tiles were placed crooked and we had to go in to regrout ourselves). We previously had plumbing work done, so the cabinetry underneath the vanity had to be replaced. Better Call Carl figured the best way to do this was to just patchwork plywood (we went back ourselves to fix). He also didn't see the need for continuous baseboards (see photo). The biggest problem we have is with the floors - we also had terrazzo floor tiles placed and confirmed with the team prior to starting that there were enough tiles to complete the project. The floor is not up to industry standard nor ADA requirements. The grout lines are all different sizes and the actual tiles are not level, resulting in a trip hazard. There are also tiles that have been chipped both during and after installation. We reached out to Better Call Carl after work was complete to see if he could replace the floor - he was reluctant to come back, but he did end up replacing two tiles (out of 21). Even after the second round, the floor is a little more level, but nowhere near the standard or expectation. There are still chipped tiles, uneven grout lines, and tiles that are not level. We will be buying new tiles and having the floor redone, so we asked for a partial refund (for just the work on the floor), which was denied. We then tried to see if there was any other resolution we could agree on since Better Call Carl claims he has a one-year warranty. He refused to uphold his warranty. We'll be going with another professional from here on and would not recommend Better Call Carl to anyone.

Sunnyside Construction went above and beyond our expectations. We have had Sunnyside come back to work on our house every 3 years as we work through our home-improvement wish list. Having found a great contractor in Sunnyside, we are going to be loyal to them for as long as we are homeowners. They show up on time and got the work done according to schedule. The final bill was right in line with their estimate. We were kept advised of any issues when they came up. They clearly explained the issues and what our options were...we never felt like we were being upsold on more work. The quality of their work is very impressive. We have had them redo our flooring, completely redo our bathroom (expanded size of bathroom, moved bathroom door, tile flooring, converted a tub into a walk in shower, etc), remodel our living room (removal of a wall), replace windows, level our crawlspace, install a French drain, landscape our back yard, build a pergola, etc. All of these projects came out better than our expectations. During our walkthrough before construstion, he was able to visualize what would work down to the inch. I was concerned we wouldn't have enough room to place the fridge where we wanted it. Not to worry- his experience came through and everything was spot on. Their team does not let small issues go unresolved. Even when it wasn't assigned to him. He found rusty pipes while working on the electric. He brought it to our attention and took care of it without question. I can only imagine how big the repair bill would eventually be if he did catch it. I've attached the before (grey floor) and after (blond floor) to show off his team's talent. His team: 1. Knocked out a load-bearing wall and added beam to open up the living room into the kitchen/dining. 2. Redid the floors. 3. Redid the bathroom (expanded bathroom by incorporating closet from second bedroom, created walk-in shower, added dual vanity, tiled floors) 4. Replaced windows in master bed and bathroom 5. We contacted Chaz and Jeannette after both the contractor and flood mitigation companies recommended by our insurance company dropped the ball. Titaan came in and fixed the mess left by those companies and the pipe leak. They refloored our entire bottom level, remodeled the bathroom, had custom stair treads made, and stayed in touch with our insurance company. Most importantly, they finished the job before our Christmas Eve party. I almost wish we could have another pipe leak so we could have them back to remodel another bathroom. Seriously, they do great work. At the very least, call them out for an estimate. They have excellent communication as well, we knew what was happening at every phase of the project.
