I really don't know how this place has as high of a rating as it does. I came with a group of 4 friends after coming from the beach. I don't know if it just tanked after the pandemic but so many things wrong with this place... Each of us ordered an entree and none of them we liked and we each tried each other's food. I got shrimp tacos. Firstly, the vegetables were overpowering and way WAY too watery. It was a mess trying to eat this thing. Then the breaded shrimp did not taste any better than the frozen stuff you can you buy from Costco. Price of this was around $13. Not worth it. One of my friend got a soup, which in her words "tasted like there was alcohol in it." Another one of my friends even found a hair in her dish. Though they did end up replacing it and also taking that off the bill. Not 1 star because the the waitress was friendly and tried her best during the busy dinner time. It is located in a strip mall with limited parking. There is outdoor seating which is where we chose to be seated. But one of my friends did keep on getting bit by bugs. We were in OC for a work trip and it was during father's day weekend so we wanted to eat somewhere nice with good food. This place got many good reviews so we decided to give it a try. It was a pretty small restaurant inside, I believe there was an upstairs but we didn't go. We were seated right away. Service was great. The staff were very nice and friendly. They constantly checked on us to make sure the food was good and if we needed anything. Food was amazing as well. Everything was tasty! I also like that they give you bread while waiting for your food. We got: boom boom shrimp, calamari, shrimp & grits, cioppino, and mac n' cheese. I definitely recommend the boom boom shrimp! Near 80th and Coastal Highway Hooked is a bit out of the mainstream in Ocean City. It offers first rate service, a creative menu in a delightful setting with authentic farm to table eats. I called about 7:30 to check on the wait for a table and was informed it was about 40 minutes, but we decided to drop by and give it a try. On arrival 30 minutes later the place was still jammed, but one lonely table was available for us--nice! Thx Hooked! Tyler was our attentive server and we enjoyed his company. Noshed on a nice crab fontina appetizer served with house crackers while enjoying drinks. The signature dish is a Baked Halibut with crispy herb smashed potatoes, served in a roasted tomato creme sauce. Not unpleasant but I think the Chef may be trying to hard here to make something unusual and interesting as the sauce overwhelmed what would have been a lovely halibut. I tried the more pedestrian fish and chips, but replaced the chips with perfectly charred asparagus. The fish was shockingly fresh, served with perfectly crispy batter and tender flakey fish. It's definitely a crowd pleaser! We will definitely return to Hooked, truly a civilized spot in the craziness of Ocean City. read more

I ordered a shrimp and grits. Tasty, well-made and plentiful shrimp! If anything, I'd recommend to the chef to cut back a couple of shrimp and double the amount of grits! My wife ordered halibut which she loved. The beer selection is good with many varieties, (and not west coast IPA-heavy as happens in California!) I had one from Burley Oak brewery in Berlin, MD. We got the boom boom shrimp, fried oysters, burger, and cauliflower. Everything was pretty good and well seasoned. The burger was ordered medium rare and came out as medium well but it was still juicy. The cauliflower was a little on the oily side - I wished it was a bit crispier and had the herbs and stuff (basically a cumin based chimichurri) coating it rather than as a layer underneath. The menu said it came with raisins but it was more like cranberries or Craisins. Didn't really have anything to change about the seafood dishes, but will say the shrimp tasted better with lemon. I'm certainly not hooked to this place. The calamari appetizer is 1/2 calamari mantel rings and 1/2 whole octopuses with the beak still in. The actual calamari was good. The clams with pork belly gave us heartburn for the rest of the night. The meals were unremarkable and while we were waiting for a dessert menu, the server completely abandoned us and started struggling with a plumbing job, (gross) to the point that I had to call out to him. We really had a sweet tooth to give them a chance at dessert, the chocolate dessert was good although not fresh. We decided to stop by wanting to try something new. Never heard of the pesto fries and boy were those delicious! Haven't had jalapeño corn crab bisque and wanted to get it because I looove spicy foods. Sadly, this didn't have a big kick of heat but it was still well balanced. My mom got the Boom Boom Shrimp and said they were very tasty. My husband got the pan seared scallops and my lord, those beauties were cooked to perfection!! The risotto was warm and rich flavor. If you have never had seafood before I suppose it would be a decent starting point but there are so many better options out there. Deviled eggs are blah and you get 3 halves for about 20 dollars. Medium cooked tuna is RARE with some sort of strange pepper mayo and coleslaw that should not be fit for human consumption. The monkfish came out as cold as the tuna but was cooked at some point unlike the tuna. The scallops however were cooked perfectly with an amazing risotto. The server was meh, maybe it was shift change or maybe new but typically servers bring your drinks, food, and ask if you need anything else. This one took our order and brought us our drinks that someone else asked us what we were having followed by bringing our food out and asked us once how things were less than 2 minutes after receiving our food, and we actually had to go up to the bar to pay because he was nowhere to be found. The best part about this experience is the environment. It is absolutely beautiful inside! read more

The food and ambience is not worth the lack of service. First time we went- walked in and no hostess was to be found and as you walk in you walk straight into a small square building with the bar in the center and tables all around it is a heavily trafficked area and you are forced to move out of the way so wait staff and other patrons can walk through. Looking past this busy downstairs area we waited for someone to notice we were there to sit us upstairs where they forgot our drinks and bread and brought it to us after entrees were served. The bartender was extremely apologetic and the food was good so I decided to give it another chance since it was a nice ambiance and the food was pretty okay. The second time - Again we walked in and there was no one to greet us the "hostess/manager" was over at the bar talking to her wait staff I could see from where we walked in. We waited and then we were seated, right next to the door where more patrons kept coming in and standing around waiting for the hostess/ manager to welcome them. Bread was not served again when asked the bread came out cold, I asked the hostess/manger as she seemed to be playing both roles if we could get some more WARM bread. She came back and the bread she brought was cold. I told her I would like it warm and she told me they made the bread at 6 and it was now 8 so it isn't warm anymore. I was surprised. The food is not worth the lack of service the only nice thing about the reasturant is the ambiance. read more

Our last meal in OCM, and it was a good one! We came in for a late dinner and were seated upstairs. Server was great and helped guide us through the menu and drink selections. Table was brought out a small loaf of warm bread with an olive oil dip. We were not super hungry, so we orders a bunch of appetizers and one main to share. The crab bisque was creamy with a hint of spice to it. The boom boom shrimp with spicy mayo had a great zing to it and everyone gobbled these up! The candied chipotle wings were sticky and gooey with an obvious kick from the chipotle seasoning. The rustic romaine Caesar had anchovies on it, which my wife loved and the seared scallops over white cheddar grits with corn, poblano and smoked bacon was also a favorite of my wife's. Surprisingly the wait time was minimal. Our party of four arrived around 7:30 p.m. on a Thursday evening and told the wait would be approximately thirty minutes. By the time we ordered a cocktail from the outside bar, we received our text and a table was ready. Our server was very friendly and service was prompt. I ended up ordering two appetizers and was pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes. The broth in the mussels was so flavorful and I enjoyed the addition of the chorizo. The tacos also had great flavor and added texture from the pickled onions and slaw. The cod was cooked perfectly and tasted fresh (so did the mussels). Our waiter told us it would be an extra 18 dollars, pretty steep for a few scallops but we told him to THROW IT ON!!! I tried my friends mussels and they were delicious, I was only going to have 1 but it ended up being 4 bwahahaha. Now, let's get into this Shrimp & Grits with Scallops. THIS IS THE ENTREE!!!! You will do yourself & your stomach a favor by ordering this. The shrimp & scallops were as fresh as they come. You get a rather large portion also which is ALWAYS a plus. The grits are hidden underneath all of that beautiful seafood and again it's a generous portion of grits. Now after all that it's one thing that I wasn't expecting. They put some sort of delicious tomato on top which is pretty sweet. It takes the dish to the next level. So in conclusion ADD SCALLOPS TO YOUR SHRIMP & GRITS & ASK FOR 2-3 Extra tomatoes. We got here around 5:30PM on Sunday, and still had about a 20 min wait for the two of us. They quoted us 30-45 minutes, so it was a nice surprise, but be prepared to wait even if you go on the early side. We got the baked oysters, jumbo crab cakes, and the scallop & grits. The baked oysters were flavorful, but wasn't enough to convert me to cooked oysters (I like raw oysters, but I'm not crazy about them like some people) - girlfriend liked this though. 3/5 The crab cakes were good too, and a healthy portion, but the flavoring was slightly understated and the texture was a little drier than I expected. It was my first Maryland jumbo crab cake, but not my girlfriend's - she liked it too but has had better. It comes with a corn side and fried green tomatoes, which were fine. 3.5/5 Scallop & grits are the reason why this place gets their stars. The cheddar grits combined with the tomato-based sauce went so well together, and complemented the scallops. I didn't expect for the flavors to be so complementary, but it felt like a magic trick in how delicious this was. Not often I give pedestrian restaurants high marks. This restaurant has it all for me. It's in a cute little shopping strip in OC. We came in for the White Marlin Open. Most of the restaurants in OC are "tourist pedestrian" at best. We ordered the crab cake sammy. The Chicken sammy. Fish and chips, Boom Boom shrimp. Corn and Crab Bisque. The crab cake sandwich was good, the crab cake was nice and fluffy with little filler. The fries were good too. The fish and chips were good and the Chicken sandwich was moist and flavorful. The Strawberry crush was "meh". The server noticed it was not touched and she offered me to make me something else. She made me an orange crush to replace it. I've been on the search for good crab dip and when I got it here it reminded of a very subpar one I had earlier in the day from tailchasers.... Amazing gluten free options. The crab and corn chowder is gluten free! As is the majority of their menu is gluten free. I have celiac disease and the waiter was very knowledgeable and informed me they have a dedicated GF fryer. I hate boom boom shrimp (fried with rice flour), crab chowder, and fries. Delicious!
