This review is for the service alone. The food was perfect as it always has been. We have been coming for years as we have a condo right behind hooked. Mostly we come for lunch as we did today. Not a shortage of staff, literally the staff did not care. When paying these prices- which let's be clear are very reasonable, but Hooked sets itself a step above ropewalk/ Mackeys and the like. Details are not important, and it was not a terrible experience, but plates can be cleaned when done, I should not be trading out dirty water glasses and side plates , there were three tables of which we were one and we waited much too long. Went in for lunch. Nice decor. Not busy and food was quick. Abi was friendly, informative, and holding it down. We started with the BOOM BOOM shrimp (shared) and the cup of bisque (hubby-not shown) shrimp were seasoned and not soggy from sauce. Hubby enjoyed his bisque. I ordered Salmon BLT sammie, which surprisingly came as a wrap and I was happy not to have the bun. Hubby enjoyed the crab cake sandwich. Both were enjoyed by us! Bland, uninspiring meals which are over-priced for the culinary "experience" which is no better than the fried crap meals at the majority of other OCMD restaurants. I had high hopes for this restaurant based on reviews and friends' recommendations. Our server also forgot to "mention" that the sea bass special was the entire fish similar to the way Branzino fish often is served which was an unpleasant surprise upon its arrival to the dinner table. My significant other had the crab cake and soft shell crab special which was nothing special except for the price. With limited quality restaurants in OCMD, I'll plan to visit my staple other quality restaurants or eat the standard fried crap OCMD meals or the overpriced subs/pizza/bar food. read more

My husband and I were in OC Md for a few days and went to Hooked in spite of some recent less-than-flattering reviews. I'm so glad we did! We were seated on the 2nd floor at a table for two by a window. Lovely. Then they sat a table of 13 next to us. Sigh. So I asked the bartender (Brendon) if he would mind if we moved to the bar (no one else was seated there); he said of course. He made us two fantastic drinks (he was obviously a pro). We asked about apps and he told us about two of them, beautifully describing ingredients etc. We opted for the calamari which had a fantastic Asian sauce with crushed peanuts, and it was fantastic. I wanted to lick the bowl. I had a smith island crab cake dinner with a corn salad and loved it. My husband had the shrimp and grits and he loved his meal as well. They were both well prepared and delicious. While eating we got to watch Brendon bartending and waiting tables. What a pro; he never missed a beat despite several very full tables. I think our experience was partly si enjoyable due to Brandon's expertise as well as his friendly nature, and also due to the really good, flavorful food. We don't get to OC very often, but when we do we will definitely return to Hooked (and hope Brendon is there!). read more

This is a casual, small venue that serves up fresh food, specializing in seafood. I had the swordfish with brussels which was very good, I would have appreciated an actual serving of the sweet potato whip. The scallops were very good but the risotto needed more flavor to be the majority of the dish. It's good enough for the special reduced meal days but might disappoint some for regular price. The shrimp and grits are good and hearty. I'd describe it as a shrimp gumbo on grits. My waiter was hard to flag throughout the evening. I saw a few other plates that looked good. Had a delightful lunch experience at Hooked on a short trip to Ocean City. The restaurant was a mix of a classy and local, down to earth vibe with coastal eats. HIGHLY recommend the Floria style smoked fish dip. It was the perfect palette of savory flavors, and I could not get enough of it!! Wish it came with more flatbread crackers, though. We ordered the shrimp tacos, the blackened mahi sammy, and the crab cake sammy. The portions of seafood were on the smaller side but fit for a light lunch. Went on Juneteenth - no wait. Started with a couple drinks and the calamari. Different kind of breading. Less like a batter type but still light and crunchy. Very good calamari. I got one of their specialty drinks - Razzle Dazzle. The alcohol was a little on the heavy handed side. My sister's entree was the Cioppino which she said had a very good flavor. We asked for some bread to help soak up all the sauce! I got the baked Halibut which was cooked to perfection! It came with grilled or braised asparagus that were delicious. There were a couple of stringy ends but the rest was delish! I got the French toast bread pudding for dessert. It came with vanilla ice cream, caramel drizzle, and candied bacon. Wife had the tuna Son had the scallops As a family we shared the deviled eggs Monkfish was ok- tasted good but meal left me desiring something more Tuna was rough at best.... Definitely cooked well under as described also looked a bit "aged" now that I think about it! Scallops were excellent - best option on the menu but that's it - the scallops nothing else on the plate . Deviled eggs - 3 halves for almost 20$!! I ordered them for the family to have a neat, new experience for deviled eggs (we love them - typically). Don't waste your time or money not worth it!! Over all DO NOT RECOMMEND!! It's so sad that this place fell off.... I hope more people are honest and take the time to send these reviews... because that 4.5 average score DEFINITELY needs to be corrected!! I can't resist coming here every time I visit OC. Their crab bisque is the best. This time, instead of jalapeños, it had butternut squash in it. Not chunks; blended in for a subtle flavor. The only chunks were the crab, which I would of liked to see more of for $9.00 a cup. Still, the flavor is devine, with Old Bay generously topping the bisque. We came during happy hour (3-6, even on Saturdays), but the only happy hour item we shared was the buttermilk calamari. This is my favorite way to have it prepared and theirs does not disappoint! The only thing we did not like (or finish) was the Brussels sprouts ($9). A small bowl with too much vinaigrette. We asked the server if they were crispy and even asked her to ask the chef to make them crispy, but they weren't. Lesson learned. I'll return for the soup and calamari. We've been coming to Hooked for years and always loved their fish and chips -- fresh, homemade, and perfectly fried. Unfortunately, something has changed this year, and not for the better. The fish now tastes like something straight out of a Swanson TV dinner or a cafeteria fish stick. It's bland, pre-frozen, and lacks the quality that made this dish worth coming back for. In a beach town, where fresh fish is literally right at your doorstep, serving frozen fillets just doesn't cut it. For years, Hooked set the bar high with fresh, quality seafood. Switching to frozen feels like a big step backward, and it's disappointing to see a local favorite lose what made it special. I hope they reconsider this change -- because if they go back to their fresh, homemade fish, we'll happily come back too. read more

We looked up cheap eats on Yelp, and this restaurant came up, we looked at the online menu and prices and went there. The lunch menu sounded very attractive, bordering on the gourmet side, we were thrilled. Our server patiently answered my questions and good news: They have a special pick 2 for lunch. I chose the Crab Cake and Jalapeño corn + Crab bisque. The bisque was a treat, very rich, and there was plenty of crab meat. I can't say enough about how good it was. The 3rd choice was Waldorf salad. Then the crabcake on a toasted bun arrived with French fries. All this is regular size for $13.00! And here comes the thought: Is this too good to be true? The answer yes...go ahead and smile. The crab cake was not too bad. What was off was the fact that it was burnt. The French fries were unusual, and by that observation, they resembled the crunchy vege straws in texture and temperature. My husband got the BLT wrap. It comes with 2 proteins. Bacon, lettuce, tomato, parm crema, and a choice of chicken, salmon, Mahi, or shrimp). It's just beautiful and delicious. It was a very moist wrap. This came with the same French fries. $18.00. My wife, daughter, and I stopped by here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon on Christmas Eve 2023. Although Ocean City is fairly dead at this time of the year and several places are either outright closed for or have truncated hours, we were happy to find Hooked open. Once we were inside, we found the place busy perhaps reflecting its great reviews and the fact that most other places were closed on Christmas Eve. For myself, I had been attracted by the fact that the restaurant had half-price entrees on Sunday from 3 p.m. to close. Had that not been the case, we may not have come here as the place is pretty pricey. In any event, my 4-year old daughter who loves calamari had an easy choice to make. My wife and I had many more options to choose from and of those we ordered the pecan crusted mahi and pan roasted scallops. Scallops can be a hit-or-a-miss; if you overdo them, they will taste rubbery and disappoint you and given the hefty price tag associated with the dish, I am often reluctant to order them. Here though, the scallops did not disappoint. They were sweet and cooked just about right. My wife wasn't thrilled with her dish - the pecan crusted mahi - but she attributed that to not liking the flavor of the fish itself, as opposed to how it was cooked. I tasted it and found the crust excellent - worthy of being plated at fancy restaurants like the ones often shown on Food TV. The dish came with spiced farm carrots, a cauliflower whip and whisky gastrique that was simply a treat for the senses. My daughter (and her parents) liked the calamari enough that we ended up getting a second plate of it. In spite of these items being very good, the dish we enjoyed the most was the dessert. Although the online menu does not list the desserts, they have a few options to choose from and based on our server's recommendation, we went with the terrine - a bar of almost molten dark rich chocolate next to a large scoop of coffee ice cream. That dessert was easily one of the best I have had in my life and truly counts as an exceptionally delightful dessert. As far as service goes, it was nice. Our server was also working as the bartender and although she had a few tables to attend to in the main dining room area, she checked in us with periodically and was quick to take our additional orders (for example, for the second plate of calamari and the dessert). Every time she would come back to check in with us, she would make small talk with our daughter and complement her on how nicely her coloring was progressing - something that undoubtedly pleased the 4-year old. All in all, while the restaurant is pricey, we would be happy to come back here for some exceptional food, especially if they have specials going on such as half-priced entrees. With those being on offer, this would be easily among our very favorite places to go to for a nice meal in Ocean City, MD. read more

We arrived in OC on a rainy Sunday evening - starved! I had previously eaten at Hooked, so I recommended that we grab a bite there. This location is in a small strip of stores, but pretty easy to find. We were greeted and seated in the upstairs dining area. Our server, Emily, immediately came over to greet us, share the daily specials, and take our drink order. We ordered water and a diet soda. We got the water right but received the regular soda. Emily quickly corrected it with a smile and we proceeded to order our entrees. We ordered blackened salmon and pan seared salmon with veggies. Both dishes were DELICIOUS!!! Hostess took down our cell and called us when a table was available. Interior and exterior was very clean. Dress code is casual. There is indoor and outdoor dining. There is music playing in the background which is a tad on the loud side, but not horrible. TV's were all on sports. I highly recommend the Boom Boom Shrimp and the Calamari! Shrimps were massive! Both dishes are fresh and cooked to perfection. The Sticky Octopus was grilled perfectly as well, but unfortunately the entire dish tasted solely of the chimichurri sauce. The octopus and potatoes all tasted the same. That was a bit disappointing. My wife enjoyed the Summer Chicken Bucatini, but she also said that eventually the entire dish tasted the same, there was no depth to allow each ingredient to come through. The Caesar salad was very fresh, I can tell the dressing is homemade. With a perfect score of 25 out of 25 stars, I not only give this restaurant an A+, but I STRONGLY recommend it. read more

Well - this is my first and last trip here. We sat outside behind the bar area and were tended to by a smaller gent who at first seemed attentive. Things spiraled from there. We ordered crab dip for the table, and I ordered a corn lobster bisque soup as a personal starter. The soup was good - thought it could have been warmer but - it came quickly. Then 10minutes went by. Then 15. We finally put in our order for entrees. I ordered the butcher's choice ribeye which came with asparagus and fingerling potatoes. The steak was prepared properly and the flavor was there. The main concern here was the 30-40 minutes of extra time sitting here without any sort of table touch from our waiter. As the bartender out back, it was obvious once his buddies showed up who he dapped up and obviously knew, we were taking a backseat. Big time. Finally we flagged him down to order dessert - I ordered some chocolate pb dome - which was incredibly smooth, and flavorful. Probably my favorite dessert for the week. Was a little small - wouldn't suggest sharing. Ordered a coffee as well - and the cream was curdled and turned my coffee into a mess. Then another 20 minutes went by and still no bartender waiter. Had to flag him down again so we could leave. Don't let the bartender be the waiter outside. You have people who paid a premium yet had to waste 30 minutes of their vacation to be remembered. Final? I really don't know how this place has as high of a rating as it does. I came with a group of 4 friends after coming from the beach. I don't know if it just tanked after the pandemic but so many things wrong with this place... Each of us ordered an entree and none of them we liked and we each tried each other's food. I got shrimp tacos. Firstly, the vegetables were overpowering and way WAY too watery. It was a mess trying to eat this thing. Then the breaded shrimp did not taste any better than the frozen stuff you can you buy from Costco. Price of this was around $13. Not worth it. One of my friend got a soup, which in her words "tasted like there was alcohol in it." Another one of my friends even found a hair in her dish. Though they did end up replacing it and also taking that off the bill. Not 1 star because the the waitress was friendly and tried her best during the busy dinner time. It is located in a strip mall with limited parking. There is outdoor seating which is where we chose to be seated. But one of my friends did keep on getting bit by bugs. Near 80th and Coastal Highway Hooked is a bit out of the mainstream in Ocean City. It offers first rate service, a creative menu in a delightful setting with authentic farm to table eats. I called about 7:30 to check on the wait for a table and was informed it was about 40 minutes, but we decided to drop by and give it a try. On arrival 30 minutes later the place was still jammed, but one lonely table was available for us--nice! Thx Hooked! Tyler was our attentive server and we enjoyed his company. Noshed on a nice crab fontina appetizer served with house crackers while enjoying drinks. The signature dish is a Baked Halibut with crispy herb smashed potatoes, served in a roasted tomato creme sauce. Not unpleasant but I think the Chef may be trying to hard here to make something unusual and interesting as the sauce overwhelmed what would have been a lovely halibut. I tried the more pedestrian fish and chips, but replaced the chips with perfectly charred asparagus. The fish was shockingly fresh, served with perfectly crispy batter and tender flakey fish. I'm certainly not hooked to this place. The calamari appetizer is 1/2 calamari mantel rings and 1/2 whole octopuses with the beak still in. The actual calamari was good. The clams with pork belly gave us heartburn for the rest of the night. The meals were unremarkable and while we were waiting for a dessert menu, the server completely abandoned us and started struggling with a plumbing job, (gross) to the point that I had to call out to him. We really had a sweet tooth to give them a chance at dessert, the chocolate dessert was good although not fresh.
