Tbh I was really looking forward to going to this place! When we arrived The place was pretty much empty but we were told outside seating wasn't available due to an event so we had to sit inside which was a bore in comparison to the outdoor decor But we still decided to stay and dine inside. We weren't greeted by anyone and when we stopped someone to ask how to order he just said we had to go to the bar. So we go to the bar and there are two employees behind the bar. neither of them acknowledged us. After being able to get their attention (the same guy we asked where to order) then tells us that we have to order at the outside bar since the bartender for the inside bar wasn't there yet. I go to order a frozen old fashioned to be told they haven't made the frozen drinks yet... so I get a traditional old fashioned and my friend ordered a beer. Both were fine and no complaints about the drinks besides how expensive they were. So we ask the bartender if we can order food and he says we have to order food inside at the back of the building. At this point I'm over the back and forth but had not eaten since 9 am so we decided to order anyway. Once inside we walked to back of the building where nothing was set or or even clear where orders would be taken so we waited and asked someone else who tells us they're setting up and someone would be back there to take orders soon. It's now been an hour and a half since they opened so it didn't make sense. Either way we finally ordered chicken tenders, a veggie pizza and an order of fries. Overall the experience was pretty mediocre at best and the fries are not $8 fries. I totally get the vibe is typically outside and Hook Hall has come highly recommended but the service just has to be better. Later we found out the news was onsite for the drag event later that evening. Totally get it but I'm a paying customer just like they are and even though I didn't get the same experience as folks did outside I think being able to do basic things like order or get clear direction from employees would've gone a long way read more

This was my first time booking at this outdoor indoor "hall like set up" where you can have drinks,hang out, hist a celebration, in DC! However, the Staffing and customer service us out the window. 1. Security guard/bouncer; Very rude, unpleasant not welcoming. 2. Drinks, not worth the price unless we got the wrong bartender 3. The inside does get pretty crowded, which I guess is a good thing for people who like crowds during covid. 4. I rented a cabana and they forgot my complimentary bottle of champagnel, that comes with it . I know it's Covid and they may be understaffed but we only had one server. So it was rather difficult to order for the group and have everything within the set time frame of the rental. 5. Food was cold, they did recook it 6. If they're crowded you don't have alot of time to decorate, if your planning to do so. 7. They claim to not be answering the phones at the time because they're understaffed. Very inconvenient. I went to Rock the Core here and the experience was very mixed. First, there were few vendors there, leading to very long lines. Second, and most important for an event featuring unlimited free booze, there was *no food.* Nothing for purchase, no food truck outside, not so much as crackers at the bar. By the end there were several patrons visibly *trashed,* and honestly I'm surprised it wasn't worse. Lastly, they roped off the outdoor seating area even though the place was packed and the seats were vacant. There was nowhere to sit indoors -- my friend with a back program ended up in real pain. I'm really excited for this place to succeed - it's a beautiful space and nice to have more options on Georgia Avenue. We went on a Saturday night and were glad to find it vibrant and lively, but not overly packed. Having multiple bars, lots of picnic table seating, and some open space makes for a good flow. It's nice that there's a little something for everyone - drinks, food, games, dogs... Bringing the rating down for me are: * the people in the cabanas looked like they were rooted there for the night, at all costs - which indicates more comfy seating might be warranted. (Are these only available as pre-ordered rentals? It's not clear...) * I ordered the house version of a Dark & Stormy, which was pretty good for a cocktail being made in batches. What was no bueno, however, was the plastic cup it was served in. Drinking cocktails out of plastic sucks, especially in a place that has such a nice overall vibe. * I spilled my drink just as I sat down. The bartender gets major kudos for making a new one at no charge, but I think he topped it with Coke - it was super weird. I could have said something, but figured it was best not to push my luck. What a fun bar! Unexpectedly I am impressed with the size of the place! As most places in dc are small and cramped, i enjoyed this large venue space! I came on on a Sat night with a large group of friends to celebrate the holidays and birthdays and we all had a great time. We reserved one of the cushioned tables in the Ski Chalet section which i heard is usually the area that they have their ourdoor beer garden! But now for the colder months, it has been transformed to a cozy cabin feel with blankets, fire pits and comfy couches. The bar on this side besides having an assorted beer choices, has warm winter drinks! like Hot toody and different spiked hot chocolate (peppermint hot chocolate ftw!!). It was such a pleasant magical feel, perfect for the holidays! i did see people brought their dogs in too! So cute! The other room, also very large and spacious has fun giant games. like skee ball, ping pong (although good luck at chasing the lost ping pong around the crowd of feet), giant checkers, connect four, jenga and corn hole. for the most part everyone were nice and would help you find the lost balls but it can be tough for those competitive ones. this side also has a full bar without the hot drinks! for the size of the venue, i am surprised theres only two small bars, but maybe we were lucky and it wasnt extremely crowded, drinks took a little time. I cant imagine if they were at full capacity and trying to order a drink. This side also has a few large park benches that you can sit and share with strangers. You can also come here to enjoy sporting games on tv because there were a few large tvs along the wall. drinks could be pricey depending on what was ordered. I had high hopes when I received a birthday invite for Saturday night (last night). Unfortunately, those high hopes were quickly dashed. Despite the cold temps we were celebrating in the largest hut (probably should have had heat lamps in the covered section of the hut, would have been warmer and more comfortable), the evening was going well until the manager pulled the birthday lady aside and expressed his frustrations with our "rowdy" group and informed her that last call for us would be an hour earlier than the other patrons because his patience was thinning. Hmmm, our gathering was a celebration well within the current restrictions , additionally, weren't Vikings a lively sort... We had ordered food, drinks, paid for a private hut and this exchange with the manager completely soured the evening. We even ordered food to go, we had the server take all of the to go orders back...why would we spend more money at an establishment in which we clearly weren't welcome, and the nerve to have a Black Lives Matter flag at the entrance. Save your money folks or spend it elsewhere, this establishment doesn't truly want your business. read more

I was so excited to enjoy my birthday at hook hall but sadly I was disappointed. My guests arrived at 1:30 on the dot for my reservation, I myself arrived at 1:40 and we did not received service until 2:10 when we finally had to ask for assistance. We had reserved a cabana with three tables, but for some reason we had to prove this to staff.We were served the wrong drinks, the wrong food, but we were polite and agreeable, finding out it was our servers first day being a temp. Sadly I had to ask for my "welcome bottle" not one, not twice, not three, but four times before it arrived. We were finally able to enjoy ourself until our waitress said she has clocking out and to have a good evening, we said okay and good night. Another abrasive individual who we had not seen before told us we had to "get out". He began to pick up our drinks and toss them on the floor. We were confused and asked what was going on and we were told we had to "figure out our shit somewhere else". Assuming this was about our time limit , we apologized stating that we didn't realize we were over time but this was NOT the way to address the situation. He proceeded to tell us to "shut the fuck up" and "get the fuck out". He then threatened to call police despite the fact that one of the members of our party is one of DC finest's and proceeded to berate our group. I'm extremely disappointed that this is the way that you not only treat patrons of your establishment, but how you treat women of color. Update: after posting the review on the website I received a prompt response from the owner. We spoke and she was equally appalled. She was extremely apologetic and did not excuse the behavior of her staff. She promised to rectify the situation financially and to hold a meeting with her staff to review proper handling of high stress situations. I enjoyed the ski lodge "outside" area they set up for the holidays! It had fireplaces and comfy couches. It was packed though and the bartenders were slow. The drinks were good though and although the outside space was lacking in seats, the inside bar had a number of tables and games. I came here during the holidays for their Christmas themed pop-up. On entering, my first thought was "wow this place smells like beer" and not in a good way. The stale beer smell kind of hits you in the face. But it's a big open room so I can see it being good for groups. The real star here though is their outside patio space. They have little "nooks" where large groups can sit, but also have a bunch of picnic benches if the nooks are full. If you're outside, you do have to go inside to order drinks, but the bar isn't too far in so it's not too bad. They don't have food on site, but often have a food truck where you can get snacks and such. Friends and I came and felt like it was a fun experience, but I don't know that I'd go out of my way to come back here. read more

My party of 6 reserved a Viking Hut, which we were incredibly excited about! We arrived and our reservation started right on time. Unfortunately, the enclosed hut we were in did not have working heat, and it was sub-30 degrees and snowing outside. They said they were "out of fuel" ... well, go get more. It was freezing, and we expected to have some sort of heat source for the entirety of our 2.5 hour window. We asked if we could get switched to a hut with working heat. No go. I would have expected the manager to have come out and offered us free food or another bottle of champagne on the house for the inconvenience. The waiter, Torrin, was awesome, though. We knew this was out of his control. He brought us an extra blanket, which was the least he could do. All of the drinks we ordered were good, including the Irish Coffee, Hot Toddy, and Mulled Wine. I was very disappointed in the size of the Kringla. It was $12 and the size of a shot. It should not have been under the cocktail menu. It was delicious, but way overpriced. As for the food, it was very good and came out hot. We got the fries, the wings, a pretzel, and a pizza. I thought the fries and wings were the best and recommend them to those who come here! In summary, the experience was just okay. I would not recommend that others pay the $125 for the hut experience. It's warmer inside and you don't have to pay that fee. I am sure Hook Hall is going to be much nicer when it is warmer out. I will go back, but not for this experience. read more

I want to start by saying i never really give bad reviews about my experiences, . but today I went to hook hall for my birthday and was very disappointed. I previously went to hook hall and rented a cabana for Valentines Day. I had exceptional service and everything was completely up to par. Today, i was extremely disappointed and surprised by the service. The served started okay but gradually declined as the evening went on. Our waitress seemed more attentive to every other cabana except for ours. I am not a picky or complaining customer but every other table getting sparklers with their complimentary champagne and our cabana did not and the miscommunication with drink orders was also a complete turn off. To top off the sub par service, My boyfriend who rented the cabana and paid for it prior to today 7/17, was charged 68.60 to his card when he swiped his card to "have on file". We were assured by our waitress Lily that the card placed on file would not be charged and that we could pay with a different card when we closed out our tab. It wasn't until we were about to leave and my boyfriend checked his bank statement that he saw the 68.60 charge. The total bill was charged to a completely different card. When he addressed this with our waitress, he didn't receive any explanation as to the charge. Thankfully my boyfriend spoke with Greg and Connor in regard to this discrepancy. Greg was very attentive and understand to the frustration that we felt regarding this extra charge especially since we were not satisfied with our service. I am truly disappointed and frankly annoyed that this was even an issue especially when i went to hook hall to celebrate my birthday based on my the amazing experience that i had on Valentine's Day. But for Greg speaking with me and attempting to make things right i would never return to Hook Hall. read more

Popped by for Game 3 of the World Series on a Friday night... and I was unexpectedly pleased with the atmosphere. The outdoor bar area was super cool - especially loved that they are dog friendly. Ample seating - even had cabanas you could reserve for gatherings. Indoors was a bit dead at the time because the game was projected on the screen outdoors, but was shocked of how big the space was. The bar was pretty big with enough bartenders so you wouldn't have to wait forever for a drink. Unless you're in a cabana, hook hall isn't worth the hype. Paid $16 to reserve a table in the Oasis outdoor area for just a party of 2. All this gets you is two benches and a low table - no waitstaff service. At least have a Toast Tab app and have drink/food runners. They had plenty of staff standing around. It was unclear to me that you didn't have to make a paid reservation to sit outside and there were plenty of walk-ins. Also the day we went their kitchen lost their food license, so there was no food service (they informed us we could alternatively bring in outside food). The bar was out of ingredients for our first two cocktails and later in the evening someone awkwardly asked to sit at our reserved table. Basically paid $16 for a bench, no food, and ordering third choice cocktails. Hook hall if you're going to brand yourself as "an experience" at least make it a good one. read more

First of all, their phones are not operating, so they ask people to email if they have questions.... which I did and to this day I HAVE NOT GOTTEN AN ANSWER. The day of the night out, we arrived at Hook Hall for a birthday party, and the waiter took like 15-20 minutes to arrive. I had to stand up and actually go looking for a waiter/waitress to come to take our orders, which was ok I guess but it's not what is supposed to happen (especially since they automatically charge 20% gratuity with your check, good waiter experience OR NOT). Food arrived quickly which was good. Per table, we were only allowed to have three tabs which was kind of annoying too because it was a party of like 10-12 people (I understand that is a big party... but come on, at least allow for 5?! After all, we did pay like $125 to rent the space...and it just got us really off the celebration mood to have to do numbers and figure out how it is that we were going to split or who was going to pay for what, etc. The only highlight of the night I would say was that we got two on the house champagne bottles, and one of the other waiter's (I think his name was Enrique, definitely Hispanic), was very kind and brought us a little sparkle candle with an expresso shot for the birthday girl. Cocktails are overpriced, got a Sahara spritz for 13 dollars the size of an 8 ounce (237 ml) little water bottle..... at least It tasted good. At the time of checkout, they included several items that I HAD NOT ORDERED, and if it wasn't for the overpriced small drinks that killed my mood and made it hard to enjoy and get somewhat tipsy, I wouldn't have noticed that they were charging me for something that I definitely did not order and that they do not check with you to make sure you did order... SO BEWARE. They also charged an extra $50 when they get your credit/debit card on the tab for "verification of funds" purposes but four days later I am still waiting for that REFUND. My fiancé and I booked our engagement party months in advance at Hook Hall. We booked 2 large cabanas in order to welcome 50 people. I received a call a month before the event letting me know that I must cancel or reschedule the event because a client was booking the entire venue. I have not experienced a situation where someone booking after gets priority. Other venues we spoke to trying to rebook our engagement party were shocked and said this is considered terrible service in the event-hosting profession. Very unfortunate situation as I was looking to host this party and many more at Hook Hall. read more

Made a reservation for their Viking village for my friend's birthday. But my friend was exposed to a COVID-positive individual, so I tried to cancel but they won't refund me for the reservation. I understand why they make you pay to hold the Viking Village tent, but the fact that there's literally no way to make an exception to the refund policy when we wanted to cancel in order to keep fellow customers safe is frustrating. They did offer to let me reschedule, but only own other Wednesday date which doesn't work for me and also makes no sense because the hut prices are the same every day of the week. This place is exactly what they advertise - fun, big and all around great experience. Crowd watching at its finest and great selections of drinks. I would say it's a 5 star place except for one thing. Something to be honest that most people won't care about but me. So if you're looking for a great place you've found it and probably don't need to read on. My issue - "Hook Hall is a traditional tavern" but a tavern knows how to pour Guinness and they don't. I believe that any tavern that carries Guinness should know how to pour it. read more

My friends and I went to Hook Hall to celebrate a birthday. I had never been to Hook Hall before but I am so glad I went. Greg took us to our cabana and was the most friendly and kind guy I've come across in a long time. Genuinely just a great man who went over the operational processes that were in place due to COVID-19. He immediately made us all feel safe and he just seemed excited for us to be there and that made us feel excited! Chiance was our waitress and she was another phenomenal person that had such a large impact on our experience at Hook Hall. She was kind and informative and we even got to be with her during the first time she popped a bottle of champagne!! Go Chiance Go!! She was very quick at getting drinks for us and made sure we had everything we needed. We all loved Chiance and would go back just to hang out with her. We also had Stew and Christian who checked on us every now and then and they were also perfect humans. The staff at Hook Hall makes this place 1000% better. Yes the ambiance is amazing but it's the people that really keep people coming back. And I will be back!! Oh god and I forgot to mention the food!! So good? I went to hook hall with a group of friends earlier in the year and I can't wait to go back. We paid extra for a heated tent, which I wasn't sure would be worth it, but on the cold winter day that we went, it definitely was. I also brought my dog with me so the tent was great for her to relax in without being overwhelmed. The drinks were so good and creative. I had a flat bread and we split a pretzel, both were amazing and super cozy. The staff was very friendly and gave my pup lots of attention. I ordered her a doggy ice cream which came in a huge portion she ate about 1/4 of it and clearly enjoyed it. I can't wait to go back once it warms up and check out the new themes read more

So glad management here updated the menu with drink prices. However, compared to other bars around Petworth - this place is overpriced, the hype just isn't there. They can change the seasons as much as they like but right across the street is Midlands Beer Garden. In the simplest of terms, at Hook Hall you are paying for the experience nothing more nothing less. The question is does Hook Hall belong in Petworth and is it good for the community compared to other establishments that have been here for ages! I am going to go back here again and check out what has changed and update this review accordingly. Terrible experience. Work in the industry and tried to give the place a shot because it was in the community. Ordered 2 shots of rye and 2 tecates and ended up paying $57 for them...definitely way overpriced for the neighborhood with minimal bartenders attention. Definitely not worth the trip/ visit. You are way better off going to midlands across the street with a better product for half the arrogance(and price) and neighborhood vibe. read more
