This is a great little place in the otherwise generic town of Oxnard, which is nestled between other prettier, more interesting towns. But if you happen to drive by here and want a bite, this might be a good place to stop by. Order up front at the counter, where the menu is displayed on a big screen and you can also see all the beers they have on tap. Beer and burger -- always a winning formula. I got myself a regular cheese burger, which comes with caramelized onions, and it was delicious. The meat was juicy, the onions really caramelized, and the bun was soft with a crisp edge. The yummy food: Prime Burger w/ Swiss: 5/5, the meat was cooked extremely well. Caramelized onions and Swiss cheese are my favorite burger toppings, and the burger bun was buttered nicely as well. Great burger! Cali Burger: 4/5, pretty good burger! The arugula was fresh and complemented the avocado really well. The meat was cooked well too. Good burger. Kids Chicken Tenders: 5/5, the tenders came with a side of French fries and a small piece of candy. The chicken was seasoned and cooked beautifully. Just moved to this city from the Bay Area, me and the BF were craving a burger and fries. First of all, we love how close it is to our home- walking distance so we walk over with my dog because they offer outdoor seating. So, back to the important stuff, THE FOOD; burgers are ridiculousy HUGE, your have to literally smoosh/flatten it down to bite it. (not complaint here, this is a GOOD thing!) You basically get to choose what you want in your burger, I got the Prime Cheeseburger with avocado, delicious! There also offer french fries, both regular and sweet potato fries. On our second visit here, we sat at the cute bar area, and watched the waitress make a milkshake, immediately we ordered a cookie shake because it looked too good to pass up, plus it was hot outside so perfect for the weather. They should call this place HOOKED UP Burger. After seeing Jose O.'s video of the massive burger, I bookmarked HB and waited till we were in Camarillo for a Soccer Tournament. After eschewing the close to the Holiday Inn sports bar next door, a dozen of us headed to HB after looking at some convincing pictures with a find something to please everyone menu, affordable prices. The restaurant has a clean, new and modern look. One of the employees opened the door for us and gave us menus. You order at the counter then they deliver to your table. The food came out fast, the beer and wine came out slow. They had a very decent selection of quality craft brews in the $5-6 range. Wine was $7 with one of our favorites Brander. The burgers start at $6 and add a patty fro $1.50 more, love that. I went with the hickory which was mounded high with bacon. It was about six -eight inches high. Thick patties and bun. Bun is a little too big but freshly made.The wife went Turkey with add avocado +$1. Chicken Tenders for the kid with fries and drink for $6, super fair. The trio has fries, sweet potatoes and onion rings, but the Rings are the standout so skip the others. Fries were real honest potatoes that tasted fresh and clean. Came in tonight for dinner and had a great experience. My niece and I shared the hickory burger and bbq chicken salad. My sister had the chicken sandwich. We also shared an order of fries and sweet potato fries. I was so hungry I scarfed down my burger. Every bite was mind blowing. Seriously. I even ate half of my niece's share. She didn't mind. Finally a decent burger! Ate here tonight while on business. And thoroughly enjoyed every part of this restaurant. Walking in very modern and updated...you order at a counter and they bring it to you. Normally for dinner I like more of a sit down experience but for this place really doesn't matter because they make you feel right at home. After ordering which consisted of a protein style California burger and a side of rings and to wash it down a glass of Syrah. After a very short wait my food came out and what I liked right off the bat is a place that knows how to serve a burger protein style. Most places it's a burger with some lettuce laid in top. Not this joint not only was the burger cooked perfectly but the flavors were on point as well. The caramelized onions and fresh avocado hit the spot. And the rings cooked perfectly crispy and served with some ranch but these rings could stand by them self they were so good. Clearly a step above a giant fast food burger chain but so is the price. Despite the name, Hook is not a seafood restaurant. Like the mushroom burger that I've had before at their Burbank venue, they make solid burgers that are mostly about the fixings. The Hickory burger tasted mostly of BBQ sauce at the expense of the crispy onion bits. Cheese was not included but can be added for an extra fee. The appropriately lighter-tasting California burger came with a heapingly happy pile of mushed avocados with an array of salad-like ingredients. No temp request on the meat but I liked the thickness of the patty and even cooking. The lean blend didn't produce a juicy patty but it still had a pleasant char-grilled flavor. I used to enjoy going into grab a bugger at Hook pre-COVID. Now I mostly DoorDash from them, but their food is always amazing. The only occasional issue is when I or a DoorDasher forgets a milkshake. Due to my food allergies I mostly order the hook burger, but others in my family love almost everything on the menu from the BBQ Chicken Salad, to the Mushroom Burger, to the Chicken Club. The only thing, is their fries and onion rings are much better if you can get them at the location. I mostly get one of their side salads when I order delivery, because you get a lot more than just lettuce and sad tomato. I checked this place out on a whim, and boy it did not disappoint. I'm a burger freak. I could live on burgers forever, and this place would be top three. I got the Hickory Burger (double), and it was one great burger. The patties cooked perfect with a small char outside, and just the right amount of juicy pink inside, BBQ sauce was enough to compliment the meat without overwhelming the taste, and the onion straws? Crispy and delicious. The bun was fantastic and held everything nicely without getting soggy and limp. I came here with my two teenage sons this past weekend and had a wonderful experience. I ordered the Cobb salad and my boys ordered a hook burger and Cali burger with the help of Gabby who was behind the register. Gabby was patient and kind as my boys tried to figure out what they wanted and asked her questions.
