I love coming here every time I'm in Santa Barbara! I've been going for a number of years and it's just as good as it's always been. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, and it's very bright and airy inside. You can pre-order your donuts online for pickup starting the afternoon before, which is super handy if you're not local. There's a parking structure nearby where the first 75 minutes are free, great for if you're dining in quickly or picking up. This time around we tried the Pistachio Bark , Passionfruit Orange Guava , Piña Colada (vegan), & the Mango Chili Lime. The flavors were all good but in my opinion the Pistachio Bark was the winner. Hook & Press was on our list of places to hit on a short trip to SB. We usually like to find the best doughnuts in the area and start our day there with our pup. The doughnuts here do not disappoint. We stopped in on two different days and were initially able to try the lavender and blueberry pancake cake doughnuts and the key lime pie filled, which is vegan. The cake doughnuts have a perfect crumb - just tender enough. I loved the butter-tasting whipped cream on the pancake doughnut. The key lime filled is full of zesty goodness. On our second visit, which was a Wednesday, was cruller day, and the star of the show was the PB&J cruller. If you've ever bitten into a dry cruller, you might be skeptical of this kind of doughnut as I tend to be. H&P's cruller is crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside and so perfectly complemented by the PB& J flavors. If you are at all able, try to visit on a Wednesday! The one bummer at this place is the woman preparing the coffee. The coffee here isn't bad, but the process one has to go through to obtain it is difficult. She was rude on both days that we visited and stopped the already slow process to close the door to the patio - which any of the other employees there could have done if it had been of such pressing importance. i've been a loyal customer here for years but sadly will never come back. we came last saturday and it was packed, one table opened up but the people that were sitting there let their kids completely wreck the table (salt shaker in coffee cups, food and dishes everywhere). so i went over and grabbed the plates off the table and my husband wiped it down, no big deal. wrong! the barista came over and scolded me for not allowing the busser to clean the table bc they didn't want dishes on their counters. well, there wasn't a busser around. i apologized bc i was caught off guard even though she was being so rude. she walked off and said "i'll send someone to clean it!". no one ever came. i really didn't understand the point of coming over to yell at a customer. it was just uncalled for. edit: just read the one star reviews and most of them are about a female barista. i'm pretty sure we are all talking about the same one!! read more

It's a very cute donut shop with a separate coffee bar. The donuts are good, but not amazing, however, people do wait in line for these. They offer unique flavors. The last time I was here I had the London Fog. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here but it will do the trick if you want something sweet. I had to visit H&P over the holiday as their IG feed was so damn magical. Like, snowflakes, elves, reindeer and sugary things magical. This Jewish girl loves Christmas so I was in! The parking situation in SB was so frustrating that I almost left but I was determined. I parked in a lot and walked a block up. Well worth it. The shop is so fun, cute and colorful, yet modern. The staff were so nice and making suggestions, telling me about their products. Very nice charm! It was decorated so cute for the holidays and I felt so toasty inside. They had so many choices that it was hard to decide. I got a chai latte and a chocolate peppermint donut but I wish that I had opted for their bagel as my friend told me that it was amazing. The donut was light and fluffy, not the taste that I'm used to but still amazing and beautiful. The peppermint part was odd for me but a couple next to me was raving about it so I guess I'm the weird one. I very much enjoyed sitting at the bar top facing the window to watch the SB happenings. Came in today around 11am for donuts and they had a variety of raised and cake donuts to choose from. The everything donut was the only good donut, it was soft, salty and the cream cheese had a great texture. However, I purchased three donuts and the other donuts had to have been yesterday's, because every single donut was cold and hard...I was beyond disappointing. It was my first time here. I was referred to try it out. This is the best biscuit i have ever had. I had a biscuit breakfast sandwich with arugula and bacon jam. The combination of flavors was perfection. The biscuit had the best texture inside and a slight crunch outside. Was just the right pairing with the soft egg. I can't say enough about this sandwich. It was just the right size to have room for a donut or the hashbrown waffle. The hasbrown waffle comes with this cool, creamy yogurt. Try it as a side. Do not give up the biscuit on ur sandwich. My favorite was the blueberry matcha, a delightful mixture of sweet creamy matcha and tangy sweet berry, but all of them were tasty. I highly suggest visiting with friends so that y'all can get a few different flavors and then split them up to try a flights-like experience! While walking around downtown after strolling through the farmer's market, I wanted to grab a coffee, and this place looked quite inviting. It had a solid-looking donut display, and I thought, why not give it a try? They had quite a few donut choices and I asked the staff member at the station what their recommendation was and ended up with the Cinnamon Crumb. As for drinks, I ended up getting a cappuccino to enjoy with my donut. The coffee was okay, nothing too special, but it did the trick for my caffeine fix. Ended up going inside in the early afternoon for a quick coffee and donut to see what the hype was about. I think the morning crowd got most of the donuts because there were only a couple of flavor options to choose from in the afternoon. I ended up going with the grapefruit poppy seed and an iced lavender latte. The latte was just how my fiancé likes it: not too sweet but definite lavender flavor. Super cute donut shop with fun unique favors. We came around 2pm on Saturday and were surprised to see there's no line. The shop was actually quite empty and we were able to order right away We got 2 donuts to share between the two of us. Costal fog has a black tea based glaze with cream and a piece of cookie on top. Hook and Press has been on my list for quite sometime! And today was the day! There's nothing like filling your sweet cravings with decadent donuts! We tried the Mexican hot chocolate, dirty chai, and browned butter. The Mexican hot had marshmallow fluff on top and chocolate cream inside. There was a little bit too much crepe inside for my likings but the flavor of hot chocolate was definitely there. Between the browned butter and the dirty chai....the dirty chai was definitely mine and the Hubby's favorite. As there is no espresso in the glaze or donut itself, the taste of chai was there. It was everything I hope it was going to be. The service was excellent. The gentleman who took our donut order was patient with my 10 and 5 year old as they were so indecisive on the flavor they wanted You are able to sit indoors and they have an outside patio. Donut Series, Part 8 I probably wouldn't have guessed that "Hook and Press" was a donut joint by its name alone, but after it was recommended to us by @donuthunting we just knew that we had to try it. They claim to offer "craft donuts" and it would be difficult to argue with them. I never imagined using the term "dining experience" when it comes to the partaking of a donut, but that's exactly the term that jumped into my mind because of the ambiance they have created. "Donuts" and "ambiance" being associated in any way? This was truly a first for me. Although their extended menu offers Vegan and gluten conscious offerings, I'm not actually sure I could be here and pay attention to anything other than their donuts. After an extended internal struggle I finally placed an order for a "Coastal Fog" and a "Hostess Cupcake." Genius names, amirite? They were both so good that they inspired us to create (what we think is) a new term. These are "sipping donuts" and by that we mean that they are meant to be savored. Much like a fine wine or whiskey, please slow down and take your time when enjoying these beauties. If you happen to visit with a four legged friend in tow, there's no need for your companion to be left out as they also offer "Dog Donuts." First their location is different from the last I reviewed and the new one is much more beautiful and big. Donuts were all great. Textures were distinct in the old fashioned vs the brioche, and the vegan donut was certainly one of the better vegan donuts I've had! Flavors were not overly sweet/artificial, and the fruit flavors tasted like the fruit with a touch of sweetness. My only note was the "browned butter" flavor was undetectable. I think they could've bumped up the browned butter so the taste came through more definitively, or just not waste time on it at all... if you're advertising something is "browned butter" - people will be on the lookout for that flavor. Line moved as fast as it could, but it would have been nice to see the donuts on top of the case so you could get a visual before making it to the ordering counter - it might have expedited the process a bit for those who need a little more time to decide. Probably the most crowded I've ever seen a dine-in section in any donut shop I've ever been to. I found it interesting there was even a dine-in section at all. It was a little loud, but nothing obnoxious. The space was bright and clean. Priced fairly for artisan individual donuts, but I think it would've been nice to see a LITTLE bit of a deal for buying in bulk. Small discounts for buying a 4-pack, 6-pack, dozen, etc. just to entice people to buy a little more if they're already there to spend.
