a cocktail in a coupe glass on a table

A bar that makes their own mead in the premise located on the east side of Williamsburg. They have a good collection of original cocktails and also special cocktails that use their meads in the mix. The paper dagger is a bourbon based drink that has an elevated sweetness from the mead and an appropriate level of sourness from the lemon. They also have their meads by the glass and also a tasting flight with three meads on half pours. Really fun to try and had the staff introduce and guide us to compare different meads they have.

I came here for a promotional event and fell in love with the rooftop of the space. The staff was extremely busy so finding a good spot at the bar to order can be quite a feat. Luckily I was able to snag a spot in the corner as another person left. I was a tad salty some of the ingredients were missing but my drink was still tasty. I headed upstairs and the view was fantastic. I really think happy hour here (if they have one) would be spectacular. I'll definitely check it out again.

    Mead, mate, and hummus

First time trying mead and this was the right place to do it! Seemingly at the end of the world on Scott Av, likely on the only street in New York to end with a dead end and bridge over an abandoned railway line. We shared a bottle of the dandelion-infused mead - it took a few sips for me to get past the initial vinegar-like sourness, but by the end of the bottle the honey fragrance had won me over. For a snack we had the lovely sourdough loaf with the pungent garlic hummus, and I also had a bottle of the very sweet and unique matte soda to stay hydrated.

Came here before going to another venue in the area. Went upstairs to the nice rooftop to chat with friends. The music was a nice volume where we could still hear each other speak. I liked that there was a bar on the rooftop, although once we ordered drinks, the bartender ended up making drinks for someone else who appeared to be her friend before making our drinks, which was a bit annoying. The drinks were quite strong which was nice.

Perfect spot to pregame before going to Elsewhere. The vibe is dark cozy and ambient. The mead was great to try. I got the flight. The service was good. Overall it's a cool place to try out unique drinks.

Choky mead waste soup on a dying burner

You are looking at $75 worth of hot pot food, since its $25 per person and we have 3 people. With sliced up vegetables such as potatoes, cabbages and radishes, this amount of food is less than what you can get for $25 at any other hot pot restaurant (99 favor taste has all you can eat for $28 just so you know), and the amount of food is not enough for 1 of us but we are 3 people here. Cheap af ingredients (yep no meat) and stingy quantity. We can't eat bread and it's not subbed by anything. And yes it's 2 eggs cuz "the chef" intended 1 egg to be shared by 2 people. We asked for one more but got declined. Our burner was running really low. But nobody came to check or attend to us. Service was cold. The soup base is made from mead waste. It's hard to drink and is not tasty at all. I admired their confidence to serve this at this price point. Heartless. After tax and tips, this $75 of food ended up being close to $100. Those preciously sliced pieces of radish, squash, potato and cabbage. It's like 2 salad kits unfolded in front of us, asking for $100. The mead is also expensive and comes at a tiny glass. The biggest restaurant scam I have ever run into in ny.

Sunday late afternoon, made our way over here to get out of the rain and have some hot drinks in the enclosed outdoor area. No one else at the place (just opened), so was able to get a seat under the warm heat lamp. Menu has a lot of drink options, especially from the connected meadery. Decided instead on the Hot Cider Toddy ($12) to go along with a Mushroom Tostada ($7). Toddy isn't too bad, more strong than sweet, but did warm us up a bit from the cold. Tostada is fairly small - a crunchy tortilla topped with mushrooms, aioli, and seeds. Very earthy flavor overall that was okay to eat. Service here was quick as we were the only ones around. Would try different items on a future visit.

Not a huge place but they have tiny books you can sit around as a small group and then bar was beautiful. Thoughtful mixologists that were as knowledgeable as they were passionate about introducing us to mead. So what is mead? It is an alcohol fermented by honey. We were introduced to taste 3-4 different types of mead, one of which he described as perfumey. And voila, that explains the lavender! Unfortunately mead was not really my thing, so I ending up with a kombucha/vodka drink from one of their cocktail specials. The "cocktail" came out in a can, which is why I took off one star, wish you'd tell me, friendly mixologist. But the theatrical mead performance and bar exterior/interior/friendly mixologist make me want to return again to try their Ocean Martini( ingredients include sea water, I kid you not!)

However, I was quickly proven wrong. Not only was the service topnotch, but the drinks were surprisingly delicious and refreshing. There's a ton of options which is also surprising considering the tap only format. Upon further reflection of how tiny the bar is, it makes sense why they would go this route. It would be challenging for one person let alone two to be behind that bar shaking and stirring. I also heard there's a back area with more seating but we didn't explore much further than the front bar stool seating. Seems like a cool spot for happy hour or late night drinks and I would definitely return!

We were lucky to grab 2 seats at the bar as the rest of the seating actually seemed a bit cramped and uninviting. They advertise a heated back patio but I don't think the heat was on and no one was there, which is a bummer. Regardless, the theme is nice with everything attributable to their "laboratory" ambience. Everything is served in beakers or similar glasses. It can get a bit crowded sitting at the bar as that's where everyone orders drinks but otherwise this was quite enjoyable. Will definitely keep on the list for HH.
