Tucked into a small red trailer in the liquor store parking lot on Route 103 across from Jillian's, Homemade Mediterranean is an absolute gem. I ordered a falafel wrap, and it was fantastic, crispy, fresh, and packed with flavor. My wife had the fried cauliflower wrap, and even though she normally doesn't like Mediterranean food, she was blown away by how delicious it was, especially with the tahini sauce. We also got sides of garlic sauce and tahini, plus a tub of hummus to take home. The hummus was smooth, rich, and some of the best I've had. The food came out in about 10-15 minutes, which felt quick, though the owner kept apologizing as if it were taking too long clearly she cares about the customer experience. They also offer a call-ahead number, which is great if you're short on time. The menu has all the classics you'd expect at a Mediterranean spot, and everything tasted fresh and homemade. There are chairs and a picnic table right near the trailer that overlooks Cole's River. Bring cash although she takes electronic payments. After passing by this food truck many times over the past month I decided give it a try. And I'm glad I did, cause this little gem is what I've been waiting to show up in the Swansea/Somerset area for years: great Mediterranean food. I got the steak shawarma, and it was fantastic. Juicy and flavorful steak balanced by the fresh, crunchy assortment of vegetables to cut through the steak's richness, all in wrap to enjoy on the go. I can confidently say this new truck serves the best food in Somerset. Unbelievably flavorful and fresh Lebanese cuisine, served right on the beautiful Lee River. The owner, Hiba, is clearly passionate about her craft- making everything from scratch. The garlic chicken shawarma wrap blows my mind every time: a perfectly crisped envelope filled with bold, complex layers that make it a textural masterpiece. At the behest of my wife, we made our way down to Mediterranean at The Pit this afternoon. She had her heart set on some falafel and hummus. Fortunately, they offered a falafel plate that came with a little hummus and a side salad. I tried a little bit and it was really good. Wifey was happy. Silly me though. I had to order the Beef Shawarma sandwich. I love them. I've had these all over the Mediterranean and they are wonderful. Most notably, in Germany they call them Döners (doo-ners) or just Doners. So, I was taken in by all the superlative reviews in this space. I don't know what everyone was eating but it wasn't what I got. For me the meat was dry, tasteless, overcooked. If it wasn't for some of the salad and sauce inside, it would have been a complete disaster. The young man who was taking the orders came by the table to ask for feedback on what I thought of the sandwich. I asked him to have a seat so we could discuss it. I think he was a little bit taken aback but they really need to do a little more work on this. The Doner kebab, when made correctly is a killer sandwich and I can only hope Mediterranean can figure it out. read more

You would never expect to find the best shawarma in town from a small truck located somewhere called The Pit. The mother/daughter combo who runs this truck are extremely friendly, and the shawarma is delicious with generous portions. Each bite was packed with flavor. The meat was perfectly crisp with excellent seasoning that paired nicely with the acidity of the pickled vegetables. Additionally, the baklava and baba ganoush were delicious. The food is very good and the prices are not bad. My mom had the falafel, and I had the steak shawarma. Both were good. The only thing I didn't care for was the steak was more like roast meat. Tender, but not what I expected. To me, steak should be slightly chewy and a bit drier, but tender. Now there is a possibility that this isOverall it was very tasty. The food here is amazing!! Cooked just right, with perfect amount of spices, the cooking here is made with so much love and care, and it shows!! The best beef Kabob on pita I have ever eaten so flavorful, and the vegetables were cooked perfectly, sauteed with a little bit of crunch left in the peppers. I also had the crispy fried dough, and it was so good, fried perfectly with a chewy crunch, all smothered in butter and powdered sugar, I wanted more but was so stuffed I could barley move.
