This place has been open over a year now and I'm not sure why I haven't been until now! Do yourself a favor and go! My friend and I split a bunch of things and keep talking about what to order when we go back. We tried a few of their appetizers and they were all delicious! We split two entrees and the mango curry was a knock out! The menu is slightly different than the usual Indian restaurants we go to, and I am obsessed. Our server was lovely. Swad is an Indian restaurant tucked away in a corner of a strip mall in Riverside, RI just a short drive outside of Providence. I was a bit apprehensive as some places with nearly perfect ratings tend to let you down, but Swad did not disappoint. The interiors (5/5) are tastefully modern with well thought out decor, with a bar near the entrance and plenty of tables for dining in. Music was pleasant and added to the ambiance. We started off the vegetable pakoras as an appetizer and mango lassi to drink. These vegetable pakoras (4.5/5) were delicious and well-liked. My only minor complaint would be the portion size as it likely should have included an additional 2-3 pakoras for the price, as the accompanying chutneys took up a good chunk of the space on the plate these were served on. The mango lassi (5/5) was refreshing with perfect hints on mango without being too sweet. For meals, we went with their butter chicken and paneer tikka masala (both 4.5/5). We really enjoyed the gravies with these dishes, as they were of high quality, and you could tell they were prepared by a chef that knows his recipes. The chicken was tender and not at all dried out, and the paneer was of good quality as well. Meals were served with ample rice for both dishes. We tried out both the butter naan (4.5/5) and garlic naan (5/5), which were excellent and served in a decent portion size, with a slight edge going to the garlic naan as it was one of the best I've had recently. For dessert, we went with the mango kulfi (5/5) which was beautifully presented and a perfect way to end off the meal, and a decent portion size for sharing. The service (4.5/5) was kind and attentive throughout the meal, and the server was happy to bring out additional bowls and utensils so that the dessert could be shared. The owner was also kind enough to check in on us a few times, happily engaging with us and ensuring everything was to our liking, which is always a cornerstone of a well run business. Overall, we were highly satisfied with our meal at Swad, so wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend them to others looking for high quality Indian cuisine in the Providence/Riverside area. read more

I've dined three times at Swad recently and really love their food. I've craved a good Indian takeout option in the East Bay for some time, but Swad is a good restaurant, period. Tucked away in a plaza on Route 103 in Riverside, Swad has a nice decor and every time I visit there are at least a few tables full. Swad features a Himalayan dumpling called a Momo that is pretty incredible - lovely spices and so much fun to eat. There is a vegetarian Momo in addition to one with lamb. The butter chicken is apparently well loved and I tried it twice - once takeout, and once in the restaurant; my eleven year old told me it is her favorite chicken dish ever, FWIW. I also tried the chicken Madras and a few of the apps. Everything was very well made. Really thrilled that Swad is in Riverside! read more

Phenomenal - all of it!! I love that Riverside has this little gem. We had the vegetable pakora (gluten free!) & many, many margaritas. For my main, I ordered the chicken korma. It was definitely one of the best I've ever had. Totally balanced & rich & delicious. The whole stuff was so kind & gracious - we were a loud-laughing group but never felt out of place. They sent out a special rice pudding dish for us at the end & we felt like celebrities. Also, what a treat to meet Raj, the owner! Wishing them the best of success for the future. The food was excellent. Lots of vegetarian/vegan options to choose from for me and meat options for my husband and all tasted great. Rating: 4.5 Came to try this Indian restaurant for lunch with my partner after looking at the reviews. It's a bit of drive from where we are located so we've been hesitant to go but decided to try since we had some time. The restaurant is located in a plaza with large sign so you won't miss it. The plaza has parkings available. When we got there it was empty and we were the only one there. Inside is pretty typical of Indian restaurants. Smell of spices, Indian background music, dim lighting, Indian decorations, Bar and table and seats. We ordered chicken momo, garlic and cilantro naan, chili cauliflower, mango lassi, and butter chicken. Everything was fresh and delicious. Mango lassi was smooth and sweet. Chicken momo was chewy and flavorful with some type of curry sauce. Chili cauliflower was nice and crispy and flavorful. Garlic naan was buttery and chewy. Butter chicken was creamy and savory with tender chickens paired well with rice and naan. Service was good and relatively quick. Price was very reasonable for Indian food especially for lunch menu. Overall this restaurant was very good and would come back again. Lunch time seems to be best time to visit. read more

We ate at Swad tonight for the first time and had a terrific experience. The food was excellent, the ambience relaxed, clean and pleasant. We had Momo, Naan, Potato Samosas, Aloo Gohbi and butter chicken and everything was perfectly prepared and presented. The The owner was extremely personable and we saw him greet and talk a bit with every guest, including us. His friendliness added to our enjoyment and interest in returning. They have outdoor seating, but because of the HVAC from a neighboring business it was too noisy for me (but I am very sensitive to noise)so we ate indoors. It wasn't crowded so the noise level was fine. I'm not sure how it would be if the room was filled, but we may find out, since I know we'll go back! read more

I haven't been in a while, but Swad is a wonderful Indian restaurant in Riverside Rhode Island. Such a great addition to our city and in front of a beautiful pond and fountain in Riverside, East Providence. It's part of a small shopping plaza. Almost can miss it if you're driving down Willett Avenue, but it has some outdoor seating for nice weather and indoor has a nice dining ambience. Great to meet up with friends or family who love Indian cuisine. They have the choices that everyone is familiar with and then other choices. I stick with more basic like chicken masala and butter chicken but if I was more adventurous I probably would try many of their dishes. Their Jasmine rice is so fresh so perfectly cooked that I literally want to go there and just get the white jasmine rice and the naan bread is spectacular to dip in all of those wonderful sauces. On to the review! - Garlic and Cilantro Naan: light and pillowy with a slight char and great garlic and butter taste - Chicken Tikka Masala: Great tasting Tikka with super moist chicken and bursting with flavor! - Chili Cauliflower: lightly fried Cauliflower flowerets with a great sweet chili sauce on them. One of my favorite things to get! Chicken Vindaloo( extra spicy): Awesome spicy, Chicken and potato dish with a great spicy taste of tomato, Garam Masala, Tamarind and red Chili. My go to dish!!! - Honey Pistachio ice cream: OMG!!!!! Trust me with this one. Just ORDER IT!!! In closing, this place never disappoints me ever! My wife and I have heard good things about Swad, a new Indian restaurant in East Providence. We have often felt that the whole East Bay is suffering from the lack of variety, particularly good ethnic foods. We have Thai, Chinese, Japanese, around here but no Indian... We are very happy to find out that it is true what people have said about this place. We did a take out today instead of sitting down service. Our selection of Sunday take-out dinner is Lamb Biryani, Mango Curry, and Chili Cauliflower. All excellent. Right amount of heat, fragrant, great texture, great color, and most importantly, the flavor. I just love cardamum - I can put that in everything - but the dishes had hint of it, and balanced with other wonderfully roasted spices. Initially, we looked at the prices on the online menu and said to ourselves, "higher prices are everywhere now..." seeing that a dinner starts at $18 to $21. But again, these days, seems fair. Once we had the dinner, we quickly realized that each dinner serves two adults. At the end of our dinner at home, we had another meal leftover. Now, this is a good value. I remember the days when India restaurant was in Warren. We have not had a good Indian place in East Bay for a quite sometime. In absence of this place, we would go to Rasoi or India in Blackstone area of Providence. But now, this place might be our new favorite Indian restaurant in Rhode Island. Sometimes you find a restaurant which just gets it. A deep menu with the classic dishes you expect (or your kids demand) plus a bunch of interesting new ones. A friendly staff that is patient and kind and just wants you to have a good, easy meal. A chef and kitchen staff that are clearly incapable of making something that isn't absolutely delicious. Swad is that kind of special place. Go! Go alone, or in a group. Try the lamb korma, the momos with tomato dipping sauce, and the avocado naan. Have a super crisp white sangria. This really is a gem of a place that fills a culinary hole in the East Providence food scene. I can't say I've tried one bad item yet. Be it the Vindaloo, Tikka, Saag or the samosa, all are excellent offerings. The naans are great and they also make really good cocktails as well. The staff and owner are polite and work hard to make sure everything is just right for you. You can tell they take pride in what they do. If you like spicy, I recommend asking for your meal extra spicy, and they also will offer you a side of house hot sauce that will kick it up a notch if you so choose. Reviews were very promising and they didn't lie~. I absolutely enjoyed my meal and service here. The restaurant had plenty of parking and was clean and empty for lunch hours. We were seated promptly and given attentive service, with clean plates, and prompt dishes to our table. The chili cauliflower was delicious and warm. The chicken momo taste very fresh and came with curry sauce. The nam was fresh and you could taste the charol flavors~ my saag had great flavors and was a good portion. They offer two versions for entree, a lunch version and dinner version which I can only assume that the portion is different. I enjoyed the lunch portion because it was perfect for me. I ordered the special of rose lassi and it was less sweet, more subtle, with a taste of rose, but it wasn't overwhelming at all. Amazing new addition to Riverside! There's nothing currently in the area for Indian - years ago, there was one on Waterman Ave but we didn't care for it very much or you'd have to cross the bridge into Providence and beyond. From start to finish, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The restaurant is very new and has only been open for a few weeks. The place is very airy and welcoming with a bar that greets you barflies when you enter. We got there for lunch on a Sat afternoon and there was a steady flow of customers. For appetizers : potato samosa (don't skip the dipping sauces - I preferred the tamarind and the mister preferred the mint but both were tasty), chicken momos and chili cauliflower. All were good but we like the samosas and momos best. Although tasty, we thought the flavors of the cauliflower resembled more of a general tsos. For lunch : chicken tikka masala, chicken vindaloo and saag paneer along with some basmati rice and naan. We got the buttered, bullet and cheese. The naan was so good - some of the best naan we've had. Fluffy and flavorful and dip them in everything - you can't go wrong. But our absolute favorite was the chicken tikka masala. We've had plenty of variations, this is prob the best one I've had. Super flavorful and was delicious with the rice, the naan and even on my shoe. The saag could've used a bit more seasoning to make the flavors pop but all in all, we enjoyed everything. The service was absolutely impeccable - every person we encountered was friendly, accommodating and welcoming. The manager checked in on us a few times and had great conversation with us and asked for feedback. We did tell him about the saag and he was very receptive. You can feel the love and pride they put into their restaurant. Truly, we hope Swad is here to stay - it may become one of our go to weekend lunch spots! read more

I'm so glad that a Desi food restaurant has opened in this part of town--it was much needed! It's located in a plaza alongside a Mexican and an Asian restaurant. We tried the butter chicken, saag paneer, aloo gobhi, and chili gobhi. The chili gobhi was tasty, though slightly on the sweeter side. All the dishes were delicious, but the butter chicken was probably the best among them. The prices are a bit on the higher side but comparable to other similar restaurants. We have dined here several times as a group of four with two young girls for dinner and done take out twice. Each time we were seated quickly even with no reservation having arrived before they got very busy. The service is professional, attentive and smooth. The food is great and the atmosphere was comfortable and ambient so it felt closer to formal dining rather than a family restaurant but was not uncomfortable for kids. We love having it close by so we are not having to brave traffic to Providence for great Indian cuisine. We will be getting takeout from there tonight! Highly recommend. read more

I got the chicken korma and friend got tika marsala. we got the cauliflower for an app. soda comes in cans, so no free refills. the korma was not what i expected, not very flavorful like other Indian places that I've had it. it was missing some spices. the app was just about enough for one, never mind two. the other dish was very good my friend said. overall it wasn't bad, but i don't know if id drive the 30+ minutes again. read more
