Samosa chaat
Matthew D.

We stopped by for dinner last night and were surprised to be the only ones there for the whole dining experience! This is definitely a gem in Cumberland and more people should be checking Vindu out. They have a great selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and I enjoyed my Indian soda. It was my first time seeing it on a menu and I'd definitely order it again! We started with the samosa chaat as an appetizer. While I liked the flavors in the chaat I did find the dish to be a bit wet from all the sauces. It made the samosa shells themselves pretty soggy. Not bad but definitely not my favorite. The shrimp saag on the other hand was very good. The dish came with rice and I thought the $18 price tag was acceptable for the portion. This dish was filled with shrimp, tasted great, and they even de-tailed the shrimp for me! A win win. As the only table we had basically unlimited access to the staff. They were all friendly and made sure that we had any question answered. They even recommended some great options for us as well. We'd definitely go back for the lunch buffet!

I liked most of the dishes, but a couple standouts were the Andhra Goat Curry and Moong Dal Payasam (dessert). Atmosphere is basic and the staff is not engaging. They barely acknowledge you and just keep to themselves. The staff at Godavari is much more friendly.

There was a larger party that came for the last part of our meal who were on the louder side and let their children run around the restaurant. While not Kinnera's fault it did lead to a lease than pleasant meal. For dinner we had the mango lassi, onion pakora, chicken korma, and paneer masala. I always appreciate when restaurants bring out papadums and chutneys as well which Kinnera did. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the pakora. I didn't get a lot of onion flavor in them and found the dish to be very dry. A sauce would have been a welcome addition. My chicken in the korma was cooked very well as it was nice and tender. For $16 the portions were huge and the meal comes with plenty of rice. I wasn't as impressed with my korma sauce though as I'm used to a creamier base. My significant other said there wasn't a lot of paneer in his masala either. Our service was standard but pleasant. The waiters didn't come over as we were eating and took a while to ask if we wanted the bill. However, they were prompt once we said we were ready for the check. I love Indian food and have had it around the world but I am glad this place is up and running. One day I'd like to try the lunch buffet.

5 enthusiastic stars for GREAT Indian delivery food that was very vegetarian-friendly!…read more We were ordering in and the reviews had us convinced that India Restaurant was the way to go. Things we loved: - the naan is LEGIT. And the order came with a very hefty amount of it. - veggie and tofu biryani: I put a note for it to be mild and it was! The star of this dish (other than the perfect rice and sauce) were the little raisins or currants that gave the perfect sweet surprise in many bites. - masala curry with tofu: Again, I requested mild and it was mild. My esophagus thanks them! This came over a bed of rice and the rich sauce was so delicious that we used the naan to sop it all up at the end. No scraps or crumbs left behind! Truly this was a great Indian meal. Though I wish we would've been able to eat at the restaurant, the delivery was faultless and the food traveled very well.

The diversity of color, taste, and presentation has me exploring new items every single time I go. It holds a special place in my heart. However, their service has been a pain point for at least the better part of a year. This has happened at least 2 or 3 times in my most recent experiences here. I have made a reservation, showed up a few minutes early. Then, I get shuffled around others who are waiting. It takes 15-20 minutes for them to get a table for the reservation. Then, the tables are not either cleaned or set, or it takes another 15 minutes for someone to offer water or a menu. Unfortunately, I did run a timer the last time I was here and it took about 35 minutes from entering to receiving a glass of water. Their front of house works very hard and she is amazing. I would argue that they shouldn't have open reservations if they know they can't fill them. It makes the overall experience sour and takes away from the amazing food. If this was a one off, I'd understand, but this has happened too frequently and consistently in my last several visits. Overall, the food and hospitality is amazing. I'll keep coming back, but they need to fix their reservation system and staffing.

The staff was extremely nice and attentive, it was a Friday night and the place was full with many families dining in which was cool to see. With that, service was a bit slower but we were checked on consistently which was appreciated. For apps we got samosas and the fried onion dish. Both delicious. The green (mint-yogurt?) sauce that came with the samosas was delicious. The fried onion dish was good, I enjoyed the curry leaves and spices in them, they essentially felt like the Indian street food version of onion rings. The curry: I got Goat Chettinad and my friend got Lamb Rogan Josh. Both delicious. Goat Chettinad has a thick curry with coconut milk in the base with turmeric, ginger and all the other great spices that come along. The goat pieces were a little lackluster, not as much meat and a lot of bone. I would get a different meat next time, though, I'm sure this is variable from order to order as goat usually is. The lamb rogan Josh, which I was able to try, was delicious. Bright flavor, tangy, deep ruby red curry and the lamb pieces were plentiful and tender. A slight smokiness from black cardamom, packed with Kashmiri chili, it had such great depth of flavor. Eaten along with some garlic naan which was light, fluffy and had some slight charring around the edges which is exactly how I like it. Also, the parathas. If you haven't had these before, order them. Flakey, buttery and delicious. I've made them at home before and these are better than anything i can muster up! (Probably on account of more butter.. Makes everything better). The curry was quite heavy on the oil/ghee, so be mindful if you're sensitive to that. Also, I enjoy spice, but for rogan Josh which has a kashmiri chili paste base, be careful ordering "spicy". Or if you're a medium person, you may want to go mild. I liked their "medium" for rogan Josh and the "spicy" for the Chettinad but I enjoy spice. I'd recommend trying this spot out, I'll definitely be back.

I had a $25 gift card to spend and thought that would cover most of the total. I get there and they charged me about $80 for TWO items! I didn't say anything at first but now as I write this review I knew something was off. - Chicken Tikka Masala costs $23.00. - Two plain naan is about $12.00. - After taxes I should have only paid about $37.80 or $40 for this food! When I got to the restaurant, they came to the front and asked how I was paying. I said with the gift card. The person cashing me out used some sort of card reader on their iPad kiosk he brought over. To cover the rest of the total I paid with a $50 bill I had, anticipating the total would be more than $25.00. I should have questioned why the total was so insane on the spot! Let that be a lesson for next time! IF THERE IS A NEXT TIME! While the food was really good you really need to speak up if you have any discrepancies with your bill on both dine in and takeout! It should not cost eighty dollars for two maybe 3 items at any Indian restaurant! Beware of this next time you visit Bollywood Grill in Cumberland, RI
