Yesterday two of us went to India (that is the restaurant, not the country) and as usual ordered too much, anticipating that we would inevitably take some food home. We were seated at a booth, a little tight but comfortable. We ordered cocktails which we don't usually do. My companion had a chai-tini and I had anew Delhi Nectar. Both were delicious. We also had soda water which many restaurants don't charge, but here they do. For food we had karahi ghost with wild rice - a good and delicious choice - the chicken sheesh kabob with potatoes (avoiding kale), mutter paneer and naan. All the dishes were excellent. Thiese were accompanied by raita, and mixed pickle. We like the places' decor better than any of the other Indian restaurants in RI. Our server, Olga I believe, was cheerful, helpful and attentive - making our experience more enjoyable. The check came to $125, more than usual but we took enough of it home for another meal. Whilst looking in the area for possible spots to check out throughout visiting RI, I immediately bookmarked the "India Restaurant". Mainly basing on looks, favorites dishes, and menu prices. Parking isn't the best so expect to circle around the "triangle" til you find a spot. Super narrow hallway to enter and also used as an exit. We were given the options of bar seating or outdoor seating since we didn't have any reservations. We chose the bar. Bartender was very nice and friendly. She multitasked with drinks, served out meals, and checked on us. My sister and I ordered familiar dishes. We skipped on naan bread and samosas. That's hard for me because I got to have naan at least with my curries. So we wanted to give it a try plus our dishes were $20.49 each. About $3-$5 more than our norm. Thankfully it included rice and generous portion. We both found our meals to be sort of bland. She got mild and mine was mild/medium spiced. I found myself reaching for salt but only garam masala and spicy chili shakers were available at reach. It was nice to see a switch up from the normal salt and pepper. Salt would have helped our meals. We decided to finish our meals halfway and pack it up. Beautiful restaurant and very clean inside. Restroom was impressive with the all in one sink, cleanliness and thoughtfulness of mouth wash. India is part of our 'regular' restaurant rotation. We always get lamb curry of one type or another. Our most recent visit was very disappointing and we hope it's a fluke. As the weather is nice the front wall is open to the front patio letting in the warm weather. We sat inside and they had the aircon blowing. The front patio is seperated from the sidewalk by a wall. The host pointed us to a table to sit at and then brought menu's over. A waitress came by, said something we didn't catch and asked what we wanted. We hadn't decided and she took a drink order. The drinks never arrived. A waiter showed up and asked if we'd like to order a drink. We explained the above, he didn't seem surprised and took care of it. We also ordered food. The lamb in both our dishes was very fatty. We both got tired of fighting for our food, trying to cut around the fat and removing the fatty bits we couldn't chew. I gave up and just left mine behind. My companion took theirs home. Disappointing. Parking is on street. Restrooms are partially automated. Ambiance is casual. Plenty of vegetarian options. Wheelchair accessible. read more

Went to dinner with my mom at 6:00/6:30 on a Monday night and it had a decent amount of people there, but this place had plenty of space (indoor and outdoor seating) to accommodate and the service does NOT lack because of it :) We ordered the Naan with onion and cilantro topping which was so good and honestly was my favorite part of the meal. I dipped it in the lemon-cilantro chutney, that came with my entree, and it got even better somehow. I got the chicken sheesh kabob (3 kabobs) with came with kale salad, chutney, and basmati rice. The chicken was great and perfectly seasoned. It came with some roasted onions and peppers and grilled pineapple on the kabob as well. Wasn't a fan of the kale salad, but I don't like kale so don't take my word for it. My mom, however, loved the salad! The other entree was tandoori chicken which comes with kale salad, chutney, and she chose zesty potatoes. I thought the potatoes were okay, cooked perfectly though. My mom loved the potatoes, so it's all preference. The tandoori chicken was great as well. It has 1 chili pepper next to it on the menu but it really isn't hot at all. We went to have lunch around 3pm . We were greeted and seated promptly by the window . We able to enjoy the comfort of being inside while still having an outside breeze and feel the sun through the opening from the patio. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and the chicken kabobs from the lunch menu . I had the ginger chai and my partner had the mint honey ice tea . Their chai is my favorite drink to order. A local institution. This place attracted my attention because of their Diwali specials. Those were apparently mostly for dinner and I stopped in for lunch, but nonetheless was treated to a robust thali. A single platter included not only an entrée but soup, dessert, salad, rice and bread. A ginger chai delivered a fresh sheet of ginger on the first sip that faded by the end. A great weekend lunch stop! It was very busy when we got there around noon on a Saturday, so we ate at the bar. The food was pretty good for Indian food in the area. The best part was the brunch deal that let you try a little bit of multiple dishes. Love the optionally! The only downside was that it took a little bit of time to get service. We were sitting for almost 10 minutes before someone came over to help us. The service was great after that, so I am chalking it up to the lunch rush. The aloo paratha was simple and homey (like something your grandma would make), and the paneer kebab had a nice smoky flavor though I wish the chunks were smaller for better masala coverage. The tomato shorba was decent but heavy on coconut, which isn't really my thing. The service was really good. They had a henna artist who would paint henna for you for free. We went back the next day, but the experience was mixed. The dal makhani felt more like plain black lentils in gravy, and the paneer paratha was just average. I've been here numerous times over the years, for both buffet and sit-down lunches/ dinners, and the quality of the food has consistently blown me away! The paratha was much larger than usual and came fully stuffed with aloo masala which justified the pricier $12 cost. The menu overall was limited compared to most Indian restaurants. Visited Rhode Island and saw terrific reviews of this Indian restaurant! The ambience was top notch with huge Indian paintings on the walls and beautiful chandeliers depicting the royal part of India. The servers were pretty nice and warm and were constantly checking on us. Food was flavorful and we ordered brunch thali which consisted of 3 curries, one kheer (dessert), half naan, salad and lentils. Lamb kabab was really good. Chicken kabab was also good. The restaurant staff were friendly without being annoying, attentive without being overwhelming, by the end of the meal our server was sharing pictures of her family with us. The menu looks like typical North Indian food. We came and ordered their weekend brunch Thali and mango lassi. We ordered just the Thali for the two of us. Portion-wise, we both felt satisfied and not bloated. I personally love eating a variety of flavors and dishes in smaller portions, so I enjoyed this type of dish. The yellow curry (tamatar ka shorba) has a lighter flavor. The lamb vindaloo was denoted with "three chili peppers" on the menu. It's spicy like a dab of sriracha-- so depending on your tolerance, it either barely registers or it's very spicy. I did not think the chicken sheesh kabob had enough flavor and found the texture somewhat dry (dry texture isn't a negative because some people like it this way). I thought it wasn't worth the extra $1 to add it to the Thali. I enjoyed the kale salad, because I just like my greens in general, but it's not Indian, and it kind of stands out as an outlier on the plate. The mango lassi seemed to have a large proportion of yogurt (this is a negative). I think it tastes decent, but I'm really biased for mango lassis no matter the quality. This one is probably like a 3/5 for "Ok, I would order again if I have a real need for mango lassi." Ambiance was good and feels casual. The restaurant feels big. The customer service was mediocre. We waited for a long time and then the server came to take our orders again. I didn't mind waiting though because we had great company (4 of us total). Overall, I enjoyed the variety of small dishes, but thought the food was OK. Customer service was OK, but there was a mistake. So overall OK experience-- 3/5 stars rating. read more
