I can't remember the name of the place that was here before, but after hearing rave reviews about this new pizza place, we had to try it. Yeah, I've said I got to church right around the corner before, but it's frequently an in-and-out thing, or I'm going to the church hall for a meal after. I'm rarely walking a block or three to go grab something to eat in the area. The interior matches the ovens that they cook the pizza in. It's a very rustic setup with a lot of brick and very compact booths that are surprisingly uncomfortable to try to eat in. The pizza is a New York style, with your common pre-built menu offerings along with a a variety of toppings that you can choose to make your own custom pizza from. Even their simple pizzas are very delicious. You can tell that they put a lot of effort into sourcing great ingredients and crafting them into pizzas that are well worth it. I was originally a bit surprised by the price, which was easily twice what you'd pay at a chain restaurant for the same size of pizza, but when you actually bite into it, it all makes sense. read more

I had been waiting to try this spot for a while now, and finally found myself in the area, so, I figured I would give it a try. The interior is fun and inviting. There is a nice patio, and there's seating inside. The person working the register was very friendly, and the service was great. You can watch from the lobby ad they make the pizzas and take them in and out if the pizza oven. You can also see what pizzas they have ready to sell by the slice. Each slice is large (cut from an 20" pizza). I was impressed with the menu, so, we tried a couple pizzas, calzones, and garlic knots. There are many pizzas you can choose from or you can byo. The pepperoni pizza and Margherita pizzas had great crust, but had a lingering parmesan taste. So, if you love parmesan (or oregano) you will love this sauce! Some tips: Since the food isn't incredibly flavorful you can utilize the Parmesan, peppers, and oregano that's on the table. They also have hot sauce, and you can purchase ranch. The ranch is made in house and is actually flavorful. I would consider getting a calzone over a pizza. I would also consider this spot if you've had a late weekend night in midtown as you can order by the slice and take your food to go. Nice little authentic NY style pizza here in Houston. They were doing a special if you vote in the election you gave your stick and they will give you a slice of pizza on the house. You can't get either a cheese pizza or pepperoni, after my free lunch. I bought my dinner there. Since I don't com here often. If you are dining in, they will bring the pizza to you. One of my favorite pizza they have here is the White Pie with Spinach but it is not available every day. But this made me try something new, I got the Eggplant Pie and Sicilian Pizza slice to go. We ordered takeout for the office from Home Slice last week. They don't offer delivery so someone had to run over to pick it up, but it was easy. We ordered the Margherita pizza, Sausage and Ricotta pizza, Pepperoni and Mushroom pizza, Garlic Knots and the Italian assorted sub. The pizza was hot, fresh and enormous (we ordered the large). Knots and sub were also both great, though some were disappointed to find that the Italian comes with mayo on it. The pizza wasn't anything special. The person attending us was nice and patient for being first timers. If you want a classic pepperoni pizza and have extra money to spend this is the place to go. I'm not exactly sure what this establishment was before but they have done a beautiful job in remodeling and revamping this restaurant! To be honest, I was expecting something in and out like what they have in Austin and I was pleasantly surprised that it was a whole experience! The waterfall, the monuments, the seating area outside, and the outdoor dining area was so incredibly nice for a nice sit down and chat. I was surprised to find they had their own parking space, which is a major plus especially being in downtown! I've been sooo happy they brought Homeslice to Houston and to make it even better it is down the street! I order from this location so much and it is great every time. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Sometimes it get busy and crowded inside but they do a good job of getting through the line quickly. I've visited homeslice in Austin but never the one literally in my neighborhood, go figure! But, last night I was craving good pizza so I had to stop by. I was a little confused at first because I'd heard they had a walk-up window here but, when I got there signs pointed me to order inside. That was fine, I was just expecting an outdoor window situation. Once, I got inside, there was a small line at each of the registers--it was a Saturday night so, the place was bumping. The restaurant's outdoor seating was pretty full and I imagine so was inside but I couldn't tell from my vantage point at the takeout area. The service was fast and pleasant and they had a good amount of options for carry out-- margherita, hamburger, pepperoni, cheese, vegan cheese and maybe one or two more. I just ordered a slice of cheese -- it was $4--you can't beat that. I couldn't wait to try it when I got home and it did not disappoint. It was perfectly cheesy with a nice crisp! The pizza was the right amount of oily (not too much so and not dry) and the crust was perfect --not too crunchy, not too chewy. My friend was excited to try this since we both love a good pizza (who doesn't right?) and made the trek here on a Saturday in August. They also have a location in Austin so there was buzz about this spot coming to H-town. Slice or whole pie? Both of those are here. They also offer salads, calzones, and subs; typical non-pizza items you'd expect to find. But let's face it, you're here for the pizza. We did a large pie with pepperoni and mushrooms. Also did a meatball pizza slice as well that we split. Slices came out fairly quickly. You can tell they've been sitting out for a while as there was no cheese pull and the crust was very hard although taste is there. When the pie itself came out, the texture was much better and matched the taste. I guess you trade the convenience/timeliness of the slice for the higher quality that comes with a fresh pizza pie from the oven. Since it's located in Midtown, I'm sure I'll find myself here for a slice or two after hookah or bar visits. Swung by here after an event nearby, which was around 8:15p on a Friday evening. There was a good crowd and the parking lot was full. I was just fortunate enough to be able to slide into the 15-minute to-go parking against the side of the patio (2 of these spots only). We were told they weren't making anymore of the first special that we wanted to order, which was disappointing since it was still pretty early into the night. The pepperoni/jalapeno and margherita slices that we got were tasty, and pretty spot on when compared to the Austin location. The crust was crispy (and a bit on the salty side) and thin, and there were a good amount of toppings. Unfortunately, there was only one sad pepper on my special slice. Pizza came out within 5 minutes, so we were actually able to sit down in the patio and chow down before my parking time ran out. This place is super casual and we had some other folks join the other side of our table. The decor is interesting and somewhat random, which creates a very unique vibe. You have it to be there to understand what I'm talking about. All in all, it's a great slice and if I'm ever back on this side of town, I would chance the parking situation for a "home slice". read more

I was skeptical at first because of the mixed written reviews. However, my nail tech assured me it was good. So I gave it a try. So good! I love a fresh tasting pizza! I got a slice of pepperoni and a spinach and white slice. It came out soooo hot. The crust was thin and crispy but definitely not "too hard" like some reviews read. I enjoyed the pepperoni slice more but did enjoy them both. She quoted me "5 min" which I thought was fast...it did end up taking longer but not pain staking. I didn't walk around but it didn't seem to be a lot of inside seating but there's a very large patio with a lot of seating. Love me some by the slice ordering options. Tried a slice of the white pie spinach and mushroom $4.75, diet Mexican Cola $3.50, and an order of garlic knots with marinara $5.50. Single slice is essentially two slices in size in my option with big chunks of mushroom and large blobs of ricotta, not overly greasy. Great for folding and eating! The garlic knots were great in texture but left me wanting more garlic flavor. I'd get them again and probably request more garlic seasoning be added if they allowed that. Indoor seating is minimal; two 4 person booths, three 2 seaters and a few barstool counter top combos. Outdoor seating is probably where it's at with eclectic tables and chairs (hand sculpture like chairs), but I can see Texas heat making this a less desired area. Parking is also minimal the lot I think holds maybe 8 cars on a good day (this being people parking according to lines) and there are pick up signs next to the outdoor seating wall to try to keep people from occupying those spaces. Overall I'd give this place a go for a lunch spot or pick up a to go pie! Service was quick, cool, and friendly providing refills without having to leave your chair. read more

Try the spinach calzone! The crust is wonderfully thin and crispy here, and the cheese is just right - not too salty or oowy gooey chewy. Favorite part was the marinara, with its rich tones of garlic, an excellent topper for the calzone. Skip the tiramisu. Really glad there is a home slice location in Houston now! But I thought that the pizza at this location was ok and the quality isn't as good as the Austin location. Maybe they don't get enough foot traffic for the slices, so they sit out a lot longer? Therefore compromising the quality? I ordered a slice of the eggplant, Margherita, and pepperoni with cherry peppers. After they heated up the slices, the crusts were rock hard. And the pizza itself just tasted old. We ended up throwing those crusts away to avoid breaking a tooth. I had those slices and just remembered feeling underwhelmed. Maybe next time, I'd have to order an entire pizza to make sure it's got the same quality? I will say this location has a good amount of seating, but the parking lot is small. read more
