Our server Tracy was kind of swamped so didn't really come to check on us but very pleasant. I had liver and onions which were kind of breaded into a steak, husband had schnitzel, and kids had burgers with sundaes. Can't believe I ate my entire meal because it was "Canadian massive". (You know American massive means twice or thrice the size of your head and this was like "little bigger than my head" so I ate it especially since I didn't have any way to deal with leftovers.) Every time we travel towards the Okanagan, Home Restaurant in Hope has been a favourite stop-over for brunch, aside from the pies the foods were satisfying and delicious, perfect to fulfill your stomach for long trips. My first meal at Home was two years ago I had the Home Country Omellete and my sister had the Benny Omellete, the serving came in great amounts, hot and delicious. Last month, we tried different menus like Meatloaf dinner and Braised Short Rib, the beef was okay it was tender but not that tasty for me, it's the gravy that's tasty and the mashed potatoes that come was creamy and buttery. My sister had the meatloaf dinner which I tasted was so good, it was full of flavour, tender and moist. The wedge fries that come with it were crispy and not oily. Once again, a great amount of serving that we need to take out some of it. I would like also to mention how great the staffs are, even though it's busy the servers we had were friendly and attentive. Even though there is a lineup outside they don't rush you, and I can see them cleaning the tables well before the next customers sit in. Lastly, the pies, I'm not much into pies but Home Restaurant pies are just so good, we tried different flavours and so far we liked it all. The crusts are light and flaky, the berries have the right amount of sweetness and plenty of filling. The cheesecake pie is dense and moist, they also have coconut pie, lemon meringue pie and my favourite is the chocolate banana pie. At the moment it's our favourite pie place, which we make sure to stop again and buy a whole pie on our way back home. To anyone travelling and passing by Hope, I highly recommend checking Home Restaurant, it is an excellent spot for brunch and dinners, plus their dessert pie is a must. Expect that there will be a line of people but be patient because, in my experience, it was worth it. read more

A friend told us to stop here on our way to Kelowna and we're glad we did. For a diner, the food is really decent. Nothing was too salty, sweet, or greasy like most diner food. Service was really fast on a Monday afternoon. Food came out super quick within 10 minutes. The chicken club salad was refreshing after sitting in the car for so long (driving from Vancouver). I really liked this place! My boyfriend and I came here after "hiking" (read: lazy strolling on a rainy day) around Hope and were impressed with the place even before entering. Parked before the restaurant was a Jeep with the cutest two poodles in the front seats waiting for their owners - but I digress... We were returning from our trip to Kelowna and decided to make a pitstop in Hope. We were greeted by pleasant staff and seated fairly quickly. Stopped into Home restaurant as a pit stop on our way to Osoyoos. So glad we stopped in! A bit of a wait for a table but well worth the wait. Our breakfast was made perfectly and promptly. Our son was acting out when he someone else get French fries and started yelling for fries, well next thing you know the waitress came and presented him with a little dish of fries which was so sweet and thoughtful. Disappointing and disgusting. I waited for an hour to be sat bc they were short staffed. I noticed that the entree dishes looked liked frozen dinners with shaved meat and instant mashed potatoes so I decided to order something simple. I ordered the grilled cheese. It was supposed to have two different types of cheeses but there was one thin slice of cheese, so it was more bread than cheese. The fries tasted like they were frozen grocery store fries from the bag. I ate a few bites then waited for a painfully long time to get my check and left. They are known for their pies (sweet ones not savory pies). But I am not sure what so special about it. Had it and it tasted like any ordinary pies. Maybe its because they are made with real fruits. Anyways I ordered a meat loaf last time I was here and boy their portion was gigantic. I wanted to share with my sister but she refused. Problem is my meat loaf was made for 2 person. For the first time in years I've been very disappointed with my dining experience at a Home restaurant. My husband and I always stop for breakfast at Home when we are travelling. Yesterday there was a wait. This is understandable since the restaurants have so many constraints placed on them because of covid. The menu now is extremely limited and none of my favorite breakfast dishes are available. They only have 1 omelette available and it has way too many items on it and comes with an overcooked farmers sausage. My husband ordered the omelette. My breakfast was cold - cold eggs, cold bacon and cold hashed browns. I think they must have held my order back while they were cooking my husband's omelette. To make matters even worse the bacon had no flavour and was tough. The best part of my meal was the toast. Home has always been our go to restaurant for breakfast when we are travelling and even for breakfast when we are at home. The waitress said that this is the same menu at all Home restaurants until some of the restrictions are lifted and they can hire more staff. We will not return to Home restaurant until things are back to normal The service is still very good but the quality of the food makes for a poor dining experience. read more

My husband's sandwich came on mouldy bread. It was replaced when we politely let the server know, but no compensation was offered when the bill came. Worse yet, the waitress implied that we should have just eaten the mouldy sandwich, as she had done when served French toast once. As if we were being high maintenance! Won't be back. read more

If you are American you will be extremely disappointed, it's very busy so Canadians must like their food to taste like Greece, even the soups. I tried a couple of times and food options but no luck. Service is beyond slow, 20 minutes to be seated, waited 45 minutes after ordering for a salad, never got tea I ordered after asking 3 different wait staff. I was never rude, please and thank you many times. Perhaps if I had been rude I would have received better service. We arrived about 7:45 am, and the restaurant was already buzzing with several customers -- being located on Old Hope Princeton Way, it's a handy spot for traveller's passing through the area and not wishing to go into downtown. We chose a table by the front window, and received prompt and friendly/courteous service. The food ordered: farmer's sausage and eggs for Mom, french toast w/blueberries for daughter, breakfast sausage and eggs for me. The food presentations were fine, and portions quite large, but preparations missed the mark a touch -- with overcooked sausages, unevenly cooked potato hash-browns, and poor-quality bread toasts. Not so home-y we arrived @ 2045 "Tara" the server didn't even welcome us, the other server didn't acknowledge us, but just mentioned "for how many". Our server of the night is "Tara". Her approach on us was a little harsh, she asked for our order, when my friend asked "i'll have clam chowder please" she responded with a very angry tone "Do you know what time is it?" "we dont serve soup anymore because we will close in 10 minutes" *shrugs*. In my head "we dont know that since we were just visiting Hope, BC." The food is served in like 20 mins turned out it was poorly made. Spaghetti is so watery, meatballs are so dry. The rice my other friend ordered is way to salty, the swiss burger bun is way too soggy. Also she keeps mentioning to everyone she serves she started at 0400(am) which doesnt make sense of her explaining (we heard them talk because she talks so loud and irritating in the ears.) BOTTOMLINE OF THIS IS: If YOU work at customer service, no matter how tired you are suck it up buttercup. On the way to Kelowna on a Sunday afternoon, the parking lot was full and a line up of people waiting for a table. Finally got the attention of a busy waitress who acknowledged I wanted to order pie to go. Absolutely magnificent pies here! Loved the cherry and apple pies! On the way back to Vancouver on a weekday afternoon, parking lot empty with many vacant tables. Poutine had giant fries and homemade gravy. Spinach salad was mediocre with only a few ingredients thrown on top of the spinach with a side of toast; not worth the $11. Fish and chips was well sized and good. Hot chocolate was nothing special. Should have ordered ice cream in a separate dish as it cooled down my warmed up pie. Large parking lot. Would stop here again for the pie! read more

Most customers are in their senior years. Seems like they come here on a regular basis. Some are first name basis with the staff. My mom ordered the day's special. It was halibut burger with coleslaw and a choice of salad, soup or fries. My mom got the white clam chowder. I'm glad she did order the soup. I was to sample it and it's so good. Creamy soup base with chuncky pieces of clams, potato, carrots and celery. I ordered the new york steak. I know its lame because this is not a steak house after all. But I can't complain. My steak was cooked medium well. It was tender and juicy. My garlic mash potato with gravy was yummy. The potato was so smooth. For dessert we had to share the huge slice of lemon meringue pie with a side of whip. The side of whip is like a bowl of whip! You know that this place will always do well no matter what. It's a destination place for many who travel through this town as a pitt stop and regardless if they're crazy busy or not. Three times in a row now my brothers Salisbury steak came encrusted with some blackened hardened charcoal type crust. We wondered if the just burned the gravy that way or keep forgetting about the fact it's cooking or they want to make 1000% that the meat is not pink.... Really that should be a big demerit against this review, but the eggs and the taters were bang on. So the cook must make it that "blackened" that way as their "Home" specialty or he hates us. And yet my brother will keep ordering it. Hmmmmm. Not. Mmmmmm good. Then why 3 stars! Because WE love the girls working the tables. They're all awesome and amazing and fast and friendly and they get you the coffee when you need it. The pies are really good in a Zoolander really really good way. I like their coleslaw as well. I have a long history as a customer of the Hope location of this mini-chain of diners. I've been dropping in over the last 15 years and I've seen quite a few changes. A few years ago I started visiting less as the cleanliness had taken a hit and I felt the food was going down the Denny's road'. By that I mean the philosophy was going to "if a little bit of this is good, then a huge pile of it must be better". Of course, we all know that isn't true. Today I decided to drop in again and see where it was at. One thing that hasn't changed is the consistently good service. No matter how the food fared, the owners of the Home usually manage to hire efficient, friendly staff that are the role models for other establishments of this kind. Fast, organized and unwilling to wilt in the face of pressure. One of the hallmarks of the Home over the years has been a certain amount of speciality items that are prepared on site. It's easy for a place like this, with one eye on the balance sheet and no big liquor sales to smooth things out, to order everything they need from the giant food supply companies. But the Home has always prided itself on a fully stocked carousel of over sized desserts made in-house and I believe the turkeys are roasted on the premises. These days, those kind of touches are important in establishing your street cred in diner world. It hearkens back to a time when the diner had to do it all on site. Not everything is whipped up fresh, but they make an effort where they can. The original in Hope has spawned four more in BC; Maple Ridge, Sorrento, Merrit and Salmon Arm all now have their own version. The Hope location seats about 70 or so and in the busy summer season you can be waiting in line for some time around meal times. As any good roadside diner needs, the parking lot is massive and folks can park along Old Hope Princeton highway if they need to. It's wheel chair accessible. The washrooms, clean but cramped, are passable. The menu probably has over 100 items in all the traditional diner categories. Senior have their own section with a few unique items and there's a kid's menu too. Some of the notables: All soups are homemade, the sandwich list includes a classic Monte Cristo, you can get Bangers and Mash, they make their own gravy (which can be ordered on anything, of course), there's the unique alder-smoked bacon and eggs and if you order coffee, your cup will never be empty. I arrived solo on a late Saturday afternoon after missing my lunch (again). I was seated promptly in one of the spacious booths which allowed me to spread out some paperwork while I waited for my meal, serenaded by the country Christmas carol station on the sound system. I chose the BLT with the optional sweet potato fries. I figured a BLT was a test. You've got to get these standards right before you can tackle more elaborate items. Looking around I could see from other diner's meals that the Home had returned to sanity on the portion sizes. Still, I'd rate the plate portions as fair to generous. The BLT met my expectations and was presented very appealingly. Bread toasted just right, bacon crisp without being crumbly and the tomatoes were almost ripe. (Don't get me started about out-of-season tomatoes in this province's restaurants) The sweet potato fries were cooked just right. I enjoyed the chipotle mayonnaise served with the fries. I did wonder why it was served in a takeout ramekin with lid while the rest of the meal was delivered on standard restaurant tableware. Very tasty all around and satisfying. That with an endless cup of coffee went for 14.19 all taxes in. If I had room I could have chosen Bumble berry pie or a lemon meringue that must have stood 15 centimetres high from the slowly rotating, multilevel, five sided glass display case. They were kept company by numerous treats slowly touring the interior of the unit bathed in fluorescent light. It's rumoured Elvis had the same unit in Graceland's kitchen to house his many desserts. Extra points awarded for All-Canadian touches: vinegar shakers on each table and butter tarts on the menu. Downer: The wine and beer list is populated by mass produced domestic brands. Never mind the driver, the passengers need better libations. I'm somewhere between three stars and four on this one. Three stars because of some past disappointment and four stars for the bright future. After my last visit I hope to return often and update my report to a solid four stars. read more

I've been here a couple of times, and every time I enter I can't help but awe over their pie and baked goods display. Six layers of racks, all full of various pies, cinnamon buns, cakes....it's amazing. I've had the roast turkey dinner and the bangers and mash. The turkey dinner is just like one would make at home. All the works-stuffing, turkey, mashed potatoes. Simply delicious. Got a bite of the mushroom schnitzel as well, also very good. You shouldn't leave this place without having a piece of their lemon meringue pie! It's the perfect tartness and sweetness and a complement to the savoury meal. On our road trip from Green Lake we were in search of a great diner to have dinner! We checked out some places in Cache Creek but could tell they weren't what we were looking for! We decided to wait because we wanted to try Home Restaurant...and it was worth the wait! We got there 15 mins before closing but they still sat us and gave us the best service. We were so impressed! Right at the front door they have a pie cooler that has the best Pumpkin Pie! The crust was flaky and it has really great flavour. The slice of pie was huge and it was served with a generous portion of whipped cream! There was a BBQ Bacon Cheese Burger on special so we got that...was a very tasty burger. This is comfort food to the max - turkey dinner, mac and cheese, perogies and sausage, all day breakfast - the list goes on! The mushroom burger is so huge they dont even give you fries - there is no room on the plate! The portions are really great but save yourself for some homemade pie. Lots to choose from and they are all delicious. Other goodies look great too - just never tried them. One word of warning - be ready to wait if its on a weekend. Felt just like Home!! When you walk in you get this nice warm fuzzy feeling (probably from the pie stand that greets you). We stopped in for a late supper at 8 pm, and it was still busy and there were people still coming in after 9! I ordered the fish and chips. 2 huge filets covered in a delicious, soft yet crispy, deep-fried batter. I'm still drooling just thinking about it. I substituted the regular fries with sweet potato fries, and it also came with a side of coleslaw. This is only the 2nd restaurant I have found where I like the coleslaw. We were so full that we didn't even have any dessert. Everything on the menu looked delicious and I actually had a hard time deciding what to order. After being away from home for over a week, it was a wonderful feeling to come into this restaurant and get a comfort food that felt like it was cooked at home.
