I consistently have such a great experience at Holy Chic! I typically see Rachel, and she is always so attentive and beyond patient with me (I can be indecisive and particular about my nails). Before she even gets started, she takes the time to check in about what I want to do with my nails, what my nail goals are (whether I want to keep them shorter, focus on strengthening them, etc.), and what type of manicure or pedicure I'm looking for so we can make sure it's something she's able to do and that we're on the same page. Throughout the the appointment, she will continue to check in to make sure I'm comfortable, enjoying my experience, and happy with how everything is coming together (shape, length, color, etc.). I also really appreciate that this welcoming experience goes beyond just Rachel. Everyone at Holy Chic goes out of their way to make me feel comfortable, says hello when you enter the salon, talks/engages with me, and overall makes me feel welcome whenever I'm there. I would say this place is quite misleading. I really wanted to love this place but honestly it fell bellow my expectations, a mani pedi turned into a 5 hour ordeal... To begin, it is advertised as a professional salon and services are advertised to come with consultations. I am not entirely sure what the consultation was supposed to entail but I did not receive anything. Upon walking in the front desk girl was quite off putting and I will say I felt a bit micro aggressed by her. I repeatedly told her I was here for a 2:15 appointment booked in my boyfriend's name (I said his name and how to pronounce it) and she insisted on butchering his name several times. Wasn't a fan of that. Then on came the pedicure, my appointment was scheduled with WanWan, it was going great until it came time to get my French pedicure. I showed her an image of exactly how I liked it and what I received was nothing like it. I tried to show her an example off of he internet and she apprehensively mentioned that the photo is AI and in real life it's never going to be that perfect. I proceeded to letting her know that I get French frequently and I can pull up a photo of what I like my nails to look like. You would think for a 75$ pedicure the techs would be able to mimic a sample photo and not try and convince you it's AI and that you should accept sub par work (I'll add a photo of what I got in the attachments) she asked me if I wanted a solid color instead ... and I mentioned I only chose this shade of pink under the pretenses that I was getting French. She brings over the g colors which while looking at the gel colors and picked one she let me know they may not even have that color. Bear in mind at this point I already had he pink on my toes from the French. She also said she will add the new color on top of what was on my nails which was annoying. Also she asked me if I wanted another design I asked for sample photos of pedicure designs she's done and she had none to show me. She showed me all manicures. She told me she doesn't take photos of peoples feet because she feels weird about it or something and doesn't want to photograph peoples toes. I accepted that, though with consent I don't understand the issue. Anyway as this ordeal continued she both took a picture of the photo of my foot on my phone and then SNUCK a photo of my actual foot in the moment as if I didn't see it. My thing is I didn't care but you made it a thing as to why you don't take photos of peoples feet and then you take a photo of mine without my consent. I let it rock because honestly I was just trying to get out of there but it really rubbed me the wrong way. Overall at this point just annoyed as she tried to redo the tip 3-4x with no improvement. She also cut my grown out toenails all weird so they were no longer perfectly square. Again for $75 you would think the techs are capable of just doing a simple line. Eventually once I spoke with a manager WanWan gets swapped out for Lotus (she was amazing! And she tried her best to make sure I was happy with my mani pedi) wish I had her from the start. I truly felt bad because her whole afternoon got derailed due to this mess. I was so over being there that I didn't even bother getting gel on my hands so just got a clean up mani which also cost $35... all in all I feel like I just wasted 5 hours of my life I cannot lie. A bit frustrated overall but I am happy with how my toes came out (THABK GOD FOR LOTUS). I probably wouldn't come back here if I wanted French, and honestly if you're paying $95 for a service like this I feel like you would expect a certain level of professionalism and capability? Idk. Praise Lotus though. I will say proper customer service would have offered me some sort of discount or something for all the inconveniences but no I was stuck with a $95 bill. Which I paid it but I also had 5 hours wasted down the drain as previously stated I probably won't come back, might have considered it if they offered me something for the inconvenience but all in all it is what it is at this point. I really like their nail tech Dani. She's so sweet, is very careful with people with allergies and attentive. I used to go to their other location for a year before they closed and moved locations. At that location the staff was also very nice. I had an appointment here for a Sunday and woke up Saturday not feeling well at all. Tried to reschedule my appointment. I didn't get an answer on the phone nor a text back. Had to send another text before someone finally got back to me. They wanted to charge me a cancellation fee for not rescheduling before that morning. Very disappointing being that I felt sick. So be aware that you can be sitting next to someone who is sick and couldn't reschedule. I have a rare blood disorder so when I get sick, I feel terrible but they're not considerate at all. I'm not one to cancel often. I'm a person of habit and like to go to the same place every 4 weeks without fail. So this isn't something that I would do often. Disappointed with this new location and their staff (except Dani - she's great). In particular because as I'm sitting in my appointment not feeling well I see two staff members talking. Then they start whispering to each other and then both look at me. Unprofessional and rude. Their loss, I'm a loyal customer and I normally bring my friends with me during my appointments for girls day. If you decide to go there, I recommend Dani. She's very sweet. I went to Holy Chic + Co almost two weeks ago for a manicure. I have to say this is the longest lasting manicure I have had. I am one to pick and peel as soon as there is a chip or it grows out. I have not had that urge with this manicure! When I arrived, I waited outside until it was time for my appointment. Upon entry I got my temperature checked and washed my hands. After that the staff helped me pick a nail color to match the dress I was wearing to the wedding that weekend. They were so helpful! We landed on grapevine- a deep purple with brown tones. Lotus was very sweet and easy to talk to. I am not a talker at my hair or nail appointments so it was nice to have some conversation, but it not be forced. Holy Chic was having a discount on services this weekend done by Markus and Sam and that was the sign that I needed that it was time for me to check this place out. First of all, it is gorgeous. I've never felt such serenity in any other nail salon. The natural wood colors and greenery are so beautiful. The vibes are there with the music and surroundings. Markus started my nails at around 1:45 and we finished up at around 3 or 3:15. Then Sam took over my toes. I liked that neither of them pressured conversation. it flowed naturally. Being that I had the week from hell and I have two babies at home, I was here to truly relax which means I wanted to keep the conversation minimal so my mind could wander. The environment is definitely lively and I loved that there were no chemical smells, and the music was on point. They also have a GREAT selection of colors. Even though Markus and Sam are new, they did a great job. I feel like a new woman. Only docked one star because A) It is expensive and B) It took over 3 hours. I had a great experience today at Holy Chic. The receptionist was actually friendly, the atmosphere was moody with lighting (perfect for this dreary day), and everyone was chatty with one another. It felt very inclusive and I liked the atmosphere. My nail tech was ready ON TIME and did not have me wait. She cleaned up my cuticles without nipping me once. I spent two hours being pampered and wish I could have stayed longer. I was thanked for coming in and asked if I would like to book another appointment. I would have but I do not live nearby. Overall I had a great experience at Holy Chic. Lotus did my nails and she did a phenomenal job. The only thing I was disappointed in was a miscommunication in their gratuity policy. When I checked my online recipe for my $70ish service, I noticed a gratuity of $20 had been charged to my card. When I called the manager to confront her on this she lmk that this was outlined on the website and in their store--she also lmk that she was trying to tell me this in the while I was reviving my service. Loved my experience here. From all the natural wood and the fresh smell of it, to a strong girl power vibe here. The salon is so bright and clean. The ladies here are all fun and some seem free spirited. Music was a tad loud, but it was better than other salons where it's too quite or there are TVs playing soap operas. Kenya was sweet and a delight to chat with. She's been working at their Fredericksburg location for a year and works at the Richmond location on Wednesday's. When doing mystery mani's she likes to do marble effects. This was my first time ever having a gel mani. And it's nice knowing you don't have to wait long for your nails to dry. After each coat they dry under a UV light for a minute or less. And to get the gel off, instead of soaking them in nail polish remover and wrapped in foil, they are soaked in a machine that uses steam with a little bit of nail remover and then peeled off. It's pretty cool to watch. Vanilla chai sugar scrub smelled good enough to eat! Light massage was just enough to relax but not long enough to crave more. All the nail utensils were in sealed packages and new. Which is great because they are used once and not on anyone else. No massaging chairs here either. Just cushions benches. Which did take away from the experience because I was tensed up sitting there. The foot scrub wasn't as long as I needed. I had thick/jagged calluses and just felt they needed more attention. Also noticed the gel polish wasn't all the way to the tip of my finger nail, so I have a small groove on some of my nails and that's weird. I may come here for manis next time. They offer water, coffee or tea complimentary. Soz, no alcohol served here. It was a fun experience and I look forward to coming back. Update! After 3 days my toenails chipped and one of my large toenails (that was short already) broke and had to be cut below the normal length. I use $1.99 Sinful nail polish on my toes people and when I paint my toes they stay painted for over a month until I remove the polish. The gel mani is still in good shape, but there were spots that the top coat didn't cover so some of the glitter polish is rough where it wasn't covered. I love this place - I don't get my nails done often and they were so friendly explaining everything to me. My technician Lotus was so nice but also respected my space when I wanted to just relax. She took great care of my feet and hands. My only complaint is that I wish we did my hands first so they had time to dry because I definitely messed one up like a newbie on my way out and was too embarassed to go in and fix it. It's so much more than a nail salon - it's literally an oasis for women like me who've, for years, felt that they were at the mercy of the, often inadequate, damaging, and mass production approach to nail care. Holy Chic is an elevated, healthy and therapeutic nail experience, and I am here for it. I found Holy Chic after having my natural nails RUINED, for the last time, at a traditional nail salon. The nail tech drilled off my gel manicure, along with the top layer of my nails, and a few days later, they are started to crack. You may be asking "why didn't you stop them?" My response is "Why haven't WE ever stopped them period?" We patronize these salons week after week, with no guarantee of consistency, satisfaction or genuine concern for the overall HEALTH of our nails. We put up with the anxiety of not having our requests understood, being told how our nails will be (mis)treated, and praying that we don't get that one nail tech who's particularly awful. We merely tolerate and experience that's supposed to make us feel better. Maybe I'm just projecting the way that I've always felt, but I'm never going back to that. Ever. I made an appointment at Holy Chic, and was honestly sad when I got there. My nails were weak, broken and a complete mess. My appointment was with Mara, and she gave it to me straight (my options). We could either cut them all down to the white meat, or try a pressed gel mani to give them some time to repair themselves and preserve my length. I opted to try the pressed gel mani and can't wait until my natural nails are back to a healthy state. Mara was nice, patient and knowledgeable, and did a fantastic job. I prefer a thin, sleek, natural nail, so it's been a little tough getting used to the press ons, but I know that it's only temporary. My one and ONLY suggestion is that they reconsider charging $2 per nail for glitter sprinkles. It's not really nail art, and $20 extra for a little sparkle is a little...EXTRA lol. I truly wanted to love this place. A local minority owned business to support but it is not worth the cost at all. I've had a number of appointments even switched nail techs but I never made it a full week without having to go back and get my nails fixed from chipping. My guess is it's the polish they use because I have never had this problem before. They also charge you $7 for soak off which if you ask me it should be included in the price. For the money you pay your nails should stay intact for 2 weeks. $5 to fix your nails and $1 each finger for a soak off. Lots of nickel and diming going on for my nails not to last even a week. You get one choice to pay your tip, venmo. If you don't have Venmo it's 28%. Also if you are looking for a salon to relax this is not it. The techs talk over you, through you, on the side of you and then you have to listen to one of the techs sing like he's Mariah or something. The decor is beautiful but the chairs are uncomfortable. I haven't had a pedicure there but it's a wooden bench and I imagine that to be uncomfortable as well. It's truly not worth the hype. read more

They had this very pregnant momma feeling pretty, pampered and most importantly safe. The salon is being very safe with precautions they're taking, which as a HCW I appreciate. They had me read and sign the waiver prior to coming in which I appreciate so I don't have to come in early to do it. The receptionist let me in the front door, took my temp and then helped me pick out a color by her touching the bottles. I then was asked to wash my hands. The check out was contactless as well including using Venmo. I was then let out of the front door. Each employee had a mask on... properly too... which is unfortunately not as common as it should be. This is my first waterless pedi and I'm normally not a pedi person but now that I can't reach past my ankles I need to. The experience was not any less enjoyable than a typical water-included place. My feet still felt very cared for with essential oils, hot damp towels, sugar scrub and massage. I'm all about being more earth friendly plus those water tubs can be a little sketch sometimes. The polish looks great and at no point did I feel rushed. The only negative is the padding on the seats needs to be improved but there were extra pillows I could sit on. Note I have had manicures here before a few times and my gel manis have lasted a good two weeks with no chipping. The vibe is a little quieter due to COVID and number restrictions but the staff are still as cool as always. This time felt more chill which I really appreciated this time. Prior experiences have been like going to a friends house to hang out and I appreciate that. Call me crazy but I feel so weird going to a typical nail salon where there's very little social interaction between customer and employees where you talk to your friend only, pretending the nail tech isn't there. This is by far my favorite salon in Richmond (and believe me, I've tried A LOT)!! HC is all about nail health, non-toxic products, self-love, and ensuring that you have a great experience. Shey and Quincy are my go-to techs but you could go to any one here and still be pleased with the results! My gel manis typically last at least two weeks, if not longer. I use their in-house cuticle oil daily which helps strengthen and maintain my nails. On the off chance that I've slammed my finger during a workout or trying to fix a door jam, the HC team will fix a broken or chipped nail for you within a generous time frame of 4 days from your original appointment. Making an appointment is fairly simple on their website, just make sure you select the Richmond shop because the website tends to default to their Fredericksburg location. I always walk in feeling so welcomed! Everyone here has such great personalities that can really cater to whichever type of experience you want. Are you a quiet customer who likes to unwind in silence? They've got 'em. You want a pop culture guru who'll make you laugh like a hyena? They got those, too! I got a pedicure ~4 weeks ago for the first time at Holy Chic. I was the only client in the salon at the time of service and COVID protocols seemed to be followed closely. While the pedicure itself was good, and I loved the idea of being waterless, I found the chairs to be unbearably uncomfortable. Typically pedicures are my time to kick back and relax, but I left the salon with terrible back pain from trying to be comfortable in what was the equivalent of a salon picnic chair. I am writing to let you know about a very poor experience our group had at the Richmond location. Please see below: -Prior to arrival, we had to sign a contract with all the rules and regulations about our appointment. Under the policies, it said "guests should arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of treatments to fill out intake forms, relax, and get settled into service for a big group in order to keep things on time. We showed up 15 minutes prior and the shop wasn't open. Instead of letting us in right away to wait inside, the host said they weren't open so we had to wait outside in the cold. Someone in our party had to ask 3 times if we could just wait inside and she finally and reluctantly let us sit inside. Although the shop wasn't open, we were told to get there 10 minutes early, yet when we did, we weren't treated with any hospitality. We didn't get to relax, and we didn't get to settle in, despite being on time. -This was a bridal party getting ready the day before the wedding. There were only 6 of us. The bride called and scheduled weeks before for all 6 of us for 10:00. Luckily, she called the day before to ensure everything was good to go. They then told her that there were 5 scheduled for 10:00 and 1 scheduled for 11:30. We ended up just canceling the later one because we were never told this until the day before. -As a bridal party, we all planned on doing French manicures. We were told as we sat down to get our nails done that we couldn't do that because not all the technicians knew how to do French. We were not told this ahead of time and so we had to choose a solid color. -After choosing a different color last minute to match, we were THEN told that we couldn't all do the same color because it would take too long and they didn't have more than one bottle of each color. -One of the girls got back to the hotel, and her toes were already smudged and messed up. It had been less than 10 hours and they were already ruined, the day of the wedding. Overall, the technicians were decent, but the first 30 minutes of being there were completely uncomfortable and we didn't feel welcome at all. The host was very rude and unwelcoming, no one made us feel glad to be there and we all hoped it would all be over quickly. For being a bridal party, we did a lot of research and chose this place for a special occasion. We were disappointed to say the least and we would never recommend it especially for a special occasion. As I mentioned in my initial review, I love the concept and the space is totally easy on the eyes. Spoiler alert: I am beyond thrilled I did! I do not live in Richmond but was visiting family and decided to make an appointment here. It has a lovely atmosphere. My technician, Sonya, was wonderful. She was so easy to talk to and friendly, and did a wonderful job on my manicure and pedicure. It's been 2 weeks and my manicure hasn't chipped, cracked, or anything. It still looks brand new. My only minor minor complaint is, the listing/set-up of the manicure "styles" was confusing to me. I booked the HC Gel Mani Special and I thought it came with some sort of nail art. When I arrived, there was a little "board" of polish colors/designs to choose from. I chose the polish with the negative space but then was told it would be $15 for negative space? I made an appointment online as a first time customer for a Friday afternoon. I received one call confirming my appointment and text reminders which were nice. The place is on a busy street in the Fan but I was able to find street parking close by. It's super cute on the outside(pictured here) and cuter on the inside. This place is non-toxic and waterless. I was greeted warmly and after checking in I was always called by name which was awesome. I love those little details! Sonya was my technician and she did a fab job. She was easy to talk to while also being a professional. I think the prices are a bit high to go super regularly but I will definitely be back & will recommend to friends. read more

The place itself is very clean and hygienic. Staff is friendly. I'm just not pleased with my pedicure. After 6 days, three toenails had the nail polish chipped off. This has never happened to me before but I believe it's because of the nail lacquer they use. I won't be returning. read more

They advertise that they are non toxic but it is all a lie. They buy the cheapest products and you might lose your nail tech to a chemical burn. They lost all their good employees because of this. It's a great concept ... but a lie. read more

My pedicure was a great experience at this salon. My friend and I went after work and we were promptly greeted and offered a beverage. The decor in the salon is adorable and it feels more homey than your traditional salon. Everything is clean and comfortable. As a professional in the environmental field, I always feel guilty about the amount of water waste that results from a pedicure, so I love that their pedicures are waterless. Despite not having a foot soak, I didn't feel like I missed out on anything. There is a large selection of gel and regular polish colors to choose from. Lotus gave my feet the kind of attention I've never received during a pedicure. I've been getting them for years so I know the game. I remember during my pedi thinking "WOW. She's really getting in there!" She took time & care to clean my cuticles up and now, 4 weeks later my pedicure still looks new (albeit the polish has naturally grown out a bit) she didn't use gel but shockingly there are no chips or cracks. I didn't know a regular polish pedi could last this long! She really delivered a top notch service & I will never go back to a strip mall nail joint again. read more

This place is so great. They follow COVID guidelines perfectly and the space itself is gorgeous and so soothing. Highly recommend Lotus especially, she lets me know what my nails need to stay healthy and hydrated and is such a perfectionist when it comes to making them pretty. It honestly blows my mind that anyone could leave this place a bad review. They are so accommodating, skilled, and welcoming. They are professional without being stuffy or stuck up. The aesthetic is beautiful. The conversation is always on point. The music is always perfect. I'm not someone with the highest confidence, but I ALWAYS leave here feeling 100. It seems like the negative reviews on here are doing everyone a disservice. It's easy to get behind a keyboard to slam a place for holding you accountable to your poor behavior as a patron and call it "bad service". Respect goes both ways. I really wanted to love this place. I gave them multiple tries thinking that I was missing something. Bottom line, the staff is unprofessional and it creates a really uncomfortable environment. I could probably deal with that except I got pretty bad manicures every time. The space is so cute and I love the idea of it. They just really need to work on everything else. read more

Mystery mani is a great idea for people who are not that creative and want a different style. That being said, I believe it is important to find out about your client before a style is selected. I've been here before and design was fine. I've also had friends who go here and all their designs are great and I confirmed the technicians ask questions before they start a design to get to know you better. I set up an appointment for a mystery mani as I didn't particularly like the monthly specials. I was called that day saying my technician can only do minimal designs or I could go with the monthly special. I said minimal is fine with me because I saw on the website what minimal designs were defined as. I got asked again when I arrived at my appointment and I said minimal works great for me. Come to find out, the technician doesn't do mystery manis and I would be her first one which if that was the case and she was uncomfortable which you could clearly see she was- I could have rescheduled, been passed on to someone else which people were available but were just hangin out in the back talking about food. The manager/owner-unsure which- picked the design at the appointment and sent it to my technician -no questions asked-no checking up-nothing-for the technician that was clearly apprehensive. As the base coat was going on, the technician started talking. I stated "the last design that I had on my nails-which she saw-animal print- is the craziest as I can go for my job. " Thinking this entire time it would have been minimal designs and minimal designs is what I would have got. I didn't fully understand until she was almost completed what the designs were. The designs looks good. She did a great job and she should feel fully comfortable doing the mystery manis herself. However, I do not believe "eyes" "lashes" are minimal designs. And my comment about my job should have been taken in consideration when the designs were chosen. I blame management in this scenario for putting their employee in an uncomfortable position and making the client feel like their needs and wants didn't matter. I felt like a number to this salon not an actual client . Lastly, I have to remove this mani after two days. The only plus to this the receptionist, She's friendly and attentive.
