I stopped by Soto in Sherman Oaks while I was in the area for a laser appointment (I live in Santa…read moreMonica and rarely make it out to the Valley unless I have something scheduled). I had a little time and was looking for a cute lounge set to wear for work and running errands, so I asked ChatGPT for boutique recommendations in the area and Soto Sherman Oaks was one of the places suggested before I even checked Yelp or Google. That alone made me curious to stop in. First of all, this is an excellent place if you like to shop on your own without someone hovering over you the entire time; no pushy sales energy, which I personally appreciate. I was able to browse comfortably and take my time. I ended up finding exactly what I was looking for -- the cutest lounge set. They had it in black, pink, and blue, and I went with the blue one. I also picked up a pair of sunglasses and a really cute choker necklace. They have a nice selection overall -- shoes, jewelry, friendship bracelets, bags, accessories -- lots of fun pieces. The pricing is on the higher side, but the quality definitely feels better than what you'd order online. You can tell the pieces are more thoughtfully curated. The only thing I would mention is that greeting customers when they walk in makes a big difference. When I came in, no one greeted me or smiled. One of the sales associates, Michaela, walked by a couple of times and didn't acknowledge me at first, even when I smiled. It wasn't a huge deal, but it did stand out. Once I tried on a few outfits and initiated the interaction myself, she was pleasant and helpful. The other sales associate (I didn't catch her name) was also lovely. Parking was easy. I found street parking right away. Overall, I had a good experience and found some lovely pieces. If you're in the area and like discovering fun, trendy items without feeling pressured, it's worth stopping in.

The customer service is terrible. My mom was looking for a specific pant and asked where they were…read morein the store. The woman in the picture just kept saying "they're over there" and pointing from behind the counter and never moved to show my mom where they were. She just kept looking at her phone. She had an attitude the entire interaction and was extremely lazy with a condescending tone. I'd rethink your sales associates and maybe hire people with better customer service skills and who are approachable and helpful. People would probably want to spend their money if they had pleasant interactions with your staff.

Alas another newbie in the trend of Boulevard Boutique pop ups. This one I can't really say I was…read moretoo impressed with. It was really waaaaaaaaaaay too overpriced for what they were selling and even with the 50-75% off sale upstairs, it still wouldn't make me wanna spend $75 on a tshirt. Most of the styles seemed pretty dated. For example the sweats with the writing across the booty that says REBEL. I'm sorry, but that was soo 3 years ago. They did have a few pieces that we really cute, but it's nothing that a scenester couldn't have pieced together from the Goodwill in Los Feliz for a fraction of the cost. Sadly it seems to me that this store thinks it's on Robertson and rumor has it, YA AIN'T, so I really don't see it lasting more than another few months. Sorry Charlie.

Their excuse was, the earrings were shipping from overseas. Okay... I'll give them a pass for that. Another time, my husband wanted to surprised me with another pair of earrings - he ordered it from that website (www.shoprumor.com). The earrings NEVER came, even after months. We tried to call them to find out what's up -- apparently they closed down shop but they STILL TOOK OUR MONEY. Now we're in the hassle of having to deal with this via the credit card company (getting a refund for merchandise never received). Shady business. Beware.

The employees, especially Alex G provide friendly patient service and go out of their way to help us out. Only downside is the user unfriendly way of checkout. It's all self checkout which is fine as long as you don't have any questions. If you do have questions, difficult to find answers. The first time we shot there we were told we had a $10 coupon for the next time we came in. When we checked out we found out that the $10 coupon was good as long as we spent more than $100 and only if we ordered online. I wanted 8 shirts, and they only had seven in stock. We had to stop the checkout process and then go through the process of ordering everything online for delivery. Quite inflexible. I wanted to try a couple of the shirts to make sure they fit. I have trouble with one of my arms and have a very hard time taking a t-shirt on and off so my husband was going to come into the try on cubicle with me, but we were told only one person was allowed. I wonder if they've heard of ADA. She had to check with her manager to get permission, which we did not appreciate. I am looking forward to my new t-shirts though. And thus, only four stars

It's something different. There checkout technology was unique. Later explained, I sat imagining of…read moreupcoming and present world possibilities. Think, "what if Burlington's updated to a similar model? The 99Cent store? Sears and RadioShack? The possibilities are endless!

True, your prayers have come true -- therefore there's a new True Religion store next door for you,…read moreyour boo and Scooby Doo, too -- but who would go there when you can get the same ridiculously trendy (some might say played out) jeans on sale at 818 Freight next door -- a one-off store that's been at Sherman Oaks Fashion Square for years? Not you, sexy, that's for sure! Glide right past the entrance and the regularly priced merch, and home right in on the SALE shelf and racks. Honestly, at least a third of the store is on blowout sale at any given time, and if you're talented at wheedling, even regularly priced items will have a healthy percentage shaved off if your pleas come forth in the right key. Those $260 jeans suddenly only cost you $110, so now you can afford to invest in that high-yield stock portfolio you've always told yourself you'd add to your curriculum vitae. Or just buy some shoes, whatever. Right? The owner/manager is a sweet Asian woman who kind of looks mean but reveals her kindness whenever she asks you if you need help, and whenever she thoughtfully looks the other way when you realize girls' pants will fit you better than men's, if you're male but can talk with your hips and make the world come hither with your lips. The store's collection leans heavily toward young women but sways every now and then back to guys, so that there's something for everyone to add to their wardrobe. Button-up shirts with sequins and applique are available in case you're tired of being the only one of your friends who isn't living out his Entourage fantasy (btw - please say your fantasies aren't as douchey). T-shirts, too, of course, though honestly, the jeans are the only worthwhile men's item unless you want to dress like one of those people who drives a leased Audi and tells everyone that they're a music producer when they really pump yogurt for their rent money. For ladies, there's lots of dresses that will fit me. Er, you. You. So cute, and so stylish! There are hair accessories, too, but forget about buying your extensions here, because there are none. Grow it out, honey -- or buy them from a kiosk near Bloomingdale's on the other side of the mall. Oh, my good[bad]ness... These Miss Sixty's would SO fit, too. Is there any way I can cover up the "Miss" part? No? Okay, then. Get ready, world.
