I stopped by Soto in Sherman Oaks while I was in the area for a laser appointment (I live in Santa Monica and rarely make it out to the Valley unless I have something scheduled). I had a little time and was looking for a cute lounge set to wear for work and running errands, so I asked ChatGPT for boutique recommendations in the area and Soto Sherman Oaks was one of the places suggested before I even checked Yelp or Google. That alone made me curious to stop in. First of all, this is an excellent place if you like to shop on your own without someone hovering over you the entire time; no pushy sales energy, which I personally appreciate. I was able to browse comfortably and take my time. I ended up finding exactly what I was looking for -- the cutest lounge set. They had it in black, pink, and blue, and I went with the blue one. I also picked up a pair of sunglasses and a really cute choker necklace. They have a nice selection overall -- shoes, jewelry, friendship bracelets, bags, accessories -- lots of fun pieces. The pricing is on the higher side, but the quality definitely feels better than what you'd order online. You can tell the pieces are more thoughtfully curated. The only thing I would mention is that greeting customers when they walk in makes a big difference. When I came in, no one greeted me or smiled. One of the sales associates, Michaela, walked by a couple of times and didn't acknowledge me at first, even when I smiled. It wasn't a huge deal, but it did stand out. Once I tried on a few outfits and initiated the interaction myself, she was pleasant and helpful. The other sales associate (I didn't catch her name) was also lovely. Parking was easy. I found street parking right away. Overall, I had a good experience and found some lovely pieces. The customer service is terrible. My mom was looking for a specific pant and asked where they were in the store. The woman in the picture just kept saying "they're over there" and pointing from behind the counter and never moved to show my mom where they were. She just kept looking at her phone. She had an attitude the entire interaction and was extremely lazy with a condescending tone. I'd rethink your sales associates and maybe hire people with better customer service skills and who are approachable and helpful. People would probably want to spend their money if they had pleasant interactions with your staff. read more

I feel compelled to share what happened to my 18 year old daughter this evening 7/ 11/2025 at Soto in Sherman Oaks. She walked into the store five minutes before closing. She was aware of the time and planned to browse quickly. The door wasn't locked, and there were still customers inside. One was in the dressing room, and the salesperson was chatting with another. When my daughter entered, the salesperson paused her conversation and approached my daughter. She approached her on her left side and asked, "How are you?" My daughter began to respond, "I'm fine, just looking for vacat..." but was cut off with, "We close in five minutes, and we don't accept cash" . Now why would she say that? My daughter has her own credit card, so the comment felt completely unnecessary. At this point she knew she wasn't welcome, so she said, "You know what, I'll just leave." The salesperson then walked her to the door without a goodbye or a thank you come again, and locked the door behind my daughter while the other customers remained inside. My daughter is black. The other customers were white. So, because of your clueless salesperson, my daughter experienced what I can only describe as her first experience of racially targeted humiliation. I came in with a dress walked out with dress two pairs of pants and a top and came back the next day to use my coupon for another pair of pants and pants that I would normally never even consider as I always find it hard to wear jeans that fit well etc. She completely held my hands through the process. I found everything to be VERY overpriced and their selection of sizes was quite limited. The service here is absolutely terrible. I walked into the store to browse jewelry when one of the women working there came up behind me and said, "How are you?" Not in a friendly or curious way, but more like, "Why are you here?" I replied, "I'm good, I'm vacation shopping and" but before I could finish, she cut me off with, "We close in five minutes." I responded, "I know, I was just browsing, but I'll" and again, she cut me off to say, "And we don't take cash." That interaction left me confused, especially since I had just seen her speaking to another customer with warmth and ease. When she turned and walked away, I said, "Oh, I'll just leave" because at that point, I was clearly not welcome. As I walked out, she followed closely behind and locked the door right after I stepped out. The time was 5:56. I walked down the street to see if another store was open, but no luck. When I passed back by Soto on Ventura at 6:02, I glanced inside out of curiosity and saw that not only were the same customers still inside, but there were more than before. This employee singled me out. She went out of her way to make sure I felt unwelcome, and she succeeded. The "we don't take cash" comment stuck with me because not only was it abrupt and unsolicited, but what made her assume I didn't have another way to pay? If there was a way to give less than one star, I would. I showed up an hour after opening, and the store was closed. They have a very strict return policy and I got a gift that does not fit and was trying to exchange it as I only have 10 days from the purchase date. Not only was no one there, but no one answered the phone and their voicemail is a cell phone not attached to any business name. It feels like this is the store that set up to take advantage of the customer and their business practices are suspect at best. I've never had such a issues exchanging some thing, and when I've asked other friends, who have purchased goods from the store, they all have had similar complaints. Left a voicemail and never heard. Great selection of trendy and traditional apparel in this Sherman oaks boutique. When I need something new in a hurry I end up buying several pieces at Soto. If I need a cool accessory like a hat, I run there. If someone asks me where to buy a great gift I say SOTO. Great selection of shirts in great fabrics from silk to linen and cotton. Pretty pretty for the money and you'll also find dresses and skirts that fit nice. If something isn't right for your body type they will recommend another style. I have several cute sweaters that keep looking great after years of wash and wear. You'll find very cute purses, wallets, trendy costume jewelry, unique belts and a small selection of nice shoes. The staff is always nice and knowledgeable. Lots of street metered parking and free parking in the back of the building. read more

Went into Soto today with intention to shop, But the woman who was working made me extremely uncomfortable by asking questions regarding my medical decisions of vaccination. Did I miss the memo? NEVER AGAIN! if you have teen girls or yourself are someone who struggles with body image or in recovery for an ED - stay away! I have shopped here many times and while I have found some stuff for my 18 year old daughter - we've never loved the ladies who work there. Today - my daughter left in tears. The one woman helping us literally kept insulting her by grabbing a small in top and saying "it's all we have so I hope it fits" and put one top in the dressing room in a large. She tried it on and it was enormous. When we came out and asked for a smaller size she went on for five minutes about what size she wore and then literally stared my daughter down and said " you have bigger boobs than me" EXCUSE ME? how dare you address a young girl and discuss the size of her "boobs" or feel it's appropriate or your place to make such a comment. This woman knows me and my daughter but today she crossed a line and my daughter who is literally 5'4 and 115 lbs and in recovery for an eating disorder left this store in tears. Absolutely disgusted by the costumer service. Love the cloths hate whoever was working today in the Sherman oaks store AKA Zoe . As I was trying on cloths Zoe literally and abruptly kicked me out from the fitting room as I was changing cloths. Later when I was ready to purchase she let other clients cut me and my mother off after we waited patiently in line and rudely demanded us to "slide away". I came into the store after dining across the street at & Waffles, because some of the window displays were cute. I ended up walking out with two items. One shirt I bought with the label "Current Air" has been a hit. It looks wonderful and I've gotten a lot of compliments. I also bought a vest by "Be Cool" and unfortunately, the quality of that vest is so horrible. The design is really pretty; however, after wearing it once it was covered in lint, which I used a lint shaver to remove. I wore it one more time, and once again, it looks like a worn out old vest. I hope the store takes note of these quality issues and selects future items with more scrutiny. read more

I walked into the store this morning. A store that I shop at . I was wearing a face mask . Which I am happy to . The girl in the front upon entering pumped sanitizer on my hands getting the sanitizer on my clothes . I went to the front desk to ask the lady if it will stain . Before I could say anything she rudely saying I should cover my nostrils which was covered already I was just pulling my mask to talk . She was rude and did not let even talk and just was mean about it . Yes of course I told her she was rude . It's an over priced store on Ventura in Studio City rude angry people that really should stay home and if they going require sanitizer to be used upon entering. Let the customer do it herself. It's really a stepping in our space as a customer. I will never shop there again . I would rather go up the street to Gisele Tune where it's friendly the clothes are cuter and you don't have a crazy sales lady pouring sanitizer on your clothes she ruined my bag I give a one star but they don't deserve it read more

It's a bit puzzling why Soto has a few negative reviews. This shop, or should I say chain of stores, is quite the spot for good finds. Items are fashionable and reasonably priced. Each store carries slightly different clothing but you can find similar pieces throughout. Parking is usually on the street and the shops are located near other cute stores and restaurants. Back in the day when Soto was starting out they would give out promotional "soto" items like socks etc.. I kinda wish they still did things like that. read more

The selections of the clothes, handbags and other fashion accessories are pretty good at an affordable price. The problem is the people who work there. They seem to ignore you as a customer if they don't know you. They only talk to those who they know. I don't think they are welcoming to customers that are not Caucasian! A friend had said she'd picked up some cute tops at Soto, so my sister and I went in to grab some new items for the summertime. We really liked a lot of the selection. It was affordable clothing, definitely fast fashion as opposed to things that you'll wear for a long time, but sometimes that's what you're looking for. We arrived after work around 540 pm, and after 10 minutes of shopping, the super rude saleslady (a middle aged woman) made it quite obvious that we were infringing upon their closing time. We had no idea that they closed at 6 pm! We rushed to try on the handful of tops and dresses we'd grabbed (seriously, we were so quick), and the entire time, the assistant sales person (a younger girl) kept coming to our dressing room asking if we were finished and what she could take back. By this time, my sister and I had both made faces at how blatantly rude the salespeople were, but we had found a couple of cute things, so went ahead with our purchases. We ended up spending a couple hundred dollars, but geez, if they'd not pressured us and given us the extra ten minutes we would have needed to comfortably try everything, it could have been more. I love Soto for trendy and affordable clothes! This is one of my go-to's if I have a function coming up that I need something for. They have great options for things like brunches, going out, casual parties or everyday casual. Especially in the Spring/Summer! Amazing sundresses and maxis. Their price range is really reasonable too! Very sweet and helpful staff. If they don't have something in your size, they'll offer to call one of their other locations and see if they can get it for you! One more thing--parking is never an issue. Why y'all trippin?? Soto had been my favorite go to boutique since they opened in studio city a few years ago. You walk into what looks like a high end boutique except the price are the opposite. All my favorite soft thin off the shoulder tops and sweaters are from here. My favorite bag is from here. Their buyers have a great eye because nothing looks cheap unlike most cheaper boutiques where you walk in and instantly think "downtown!" seriously the best inexpensive boutique in the valley read more

The lady with red hair only helps the customers she knows, and literally pushed me out of the way one time to grab a piece for her customer.....um excuse me? I really love the selection of clothes at this place and the five stars are for fair pricing! Its great to be able to pick up a cute top for work for under $40 or a gift for a friend that you know she will love for under $50. It's really unfortunate that a store with somewhat-cute (yet overpriced) things that I would still buy cause I'm too lazy to go to a mall has such bad vibes. I'm assuming one of the women who's always behind the cash register (red hair) is the owner--with that being said, she has never greeted me. I walk into the store and its as if I'm doing them a favor--the owner(s) and the sales women are just talking among themselves at all times. They have a few people come in who it seems like they know personally--so when those people come in, all eyes and all help is on them. I stopped coming here because of this terrible treatment of customers. I'd rather spend my $45 on a discounted designer shirt at Tj Maxx rather than feel INSULTED AND WORTHLESS and buy a shirt that's going to deform in the laundry or rip in a day anyways. I went here for the first time today. I've never encounter worse attitude and rudeness for absolutely no reason. Zero help! Eye rolling and all sorts of things. I have never written a negative review in my life. But the treatment I received at Soto needs to be addressed. I have shopped at this location since the day they opened their doors. I was raised at my moms store, Two Sisters in Toluca Lake, Pacific Palisades and on Montana Ave in Santa Monica. I understand how imperative it is to show appreciation and RESPECT towards your customers, especially loyal customers who constantly refer business. Well on Friday, I decided to go into Soto and shop for my upcoming trip to Bora Bora. Upon walking in I asked one of the young ladies to please find the dress on the mannequin, it was super cute! Upon grabbing it for me I said I realllllly need to use your restroom, would I please be able to use it? It was urgent. She told me to ask Cathy, who I know. Cathy's response was "No, sorry, you can walk across the street and use Sweet Butters bathroom." I was pretty shocked at how abrupt and offensive she was. And after drinking ice tea all day I decided OK, I guess I will go to Gisele Tune's boutique where they appreciate the 15 + year customer I am, they would never have said that to me. So I left Soto, with the dress I wanted in the fitting room. Walked across the street, paid the $3.00 for valet since you can absolutely never find any street parking and left for good. Cathy called me and said they have been having "plumbing problems" due to the age of the building and she is "sorry for being so offensive." If she would have said that right then and there, in a PLEASANT manner, not like the shoplifter/ riff-raff she made me feel like. THAT I WOULD HAVE understood. A little late, Cathy.... My mother, who has owned 15 clothing stores in my lifetime, was pretty disgusted upon hearing this story and said she too, will never be going back to Soto again. When people would compliment me on the streets with my outfit I would more than just say the outfit came from Soto, I would really push them to shop there and take my praise of their store the extra mile. Since I know how hard it is for small independent stores to survive in a world of malls that take returns back anytime and online discount stores galore. The quality of Soto's clothing has gone down lately, and I've noticed the prices have gone up. Which has been a bit frustrating considering after a couple washes my purchases do pretty much all shrink/fade. That's why I figured it would be so ideal for my upcoming trip. Been here a few times before, bought cute stuff, and the staff wasn't friendly nor obnoxious. Today, after about 5 minutes of looking around, one of the employees announced that if anyone has so-and-so car should move it. When I told her it's mine, she approached me to tell me that one of the employees just got here and is blocking my car, and that another employee will be here shorty so she'll need the parking spot I'm in. She also continued to say "I don't know why it says 'customer parking only' when all of us who work here park there." Ummm... Because its for customers???
