Fresh food, generous portions and good service. If the place isn't too busy you almost always see the employees food from the restaurant themselves, I tend to see that as a healthy sign. The building looks a little questionable. The food is the best asian I've had in Spring. Low prices, HUGE portions of fresh and well cooked meat and vegetables. The beef and chicken dishes are fantastic. Ordered a fried chicken dish and asked for extra steamed rice. "That will be a dollar, okay?" "Yeah! :)" A few minutes later "This is heavy." My husband and I have eaten here a few time but I have never actually picked up the takeout until tonight. Pulled up to the drive through and sat behind a car for 15 minutes, got tired of waiting so I went inside and it was another 19 minutes before anyone spoke to me. It should be noted that no one ever went to the window and helped the people waiting on their food so they ended up just leaving. When I was addressed I told the cashier/lady handling the take out orders I was there to pick up our order that was said to take 10-15 minutes when we called before hand and she tore my order off the pad and took it into the kitchen where she was screaming with the cook. Eventually she called me to get my order 10 more minutes maybe? Honestly I started talking to another person waiting and stopped watching the clock briefly, .....and what do you know ....wrong order. They only got haft our order, she then proceeded to argue with me about what was ordered, after that she insist it will be five more minutes to get the rest, ...my order did come out in the allotted time. Before I paid I asked her if my order was correct and said what it was supposed to be two more times and she agreed, so I paid and went to my car. Decided to take a peek before driving off and it was wrong, ugh. So I walk back in and tell the other waitress because the cashier was yet again in the back screaming, she argued with me about my order then the cashier comes out and tells me that not what I ordered yes, yes it is. Finally she agrees to fix it after I Inform her it was okay I was leaving but wouldn't be back. We have gotten take out from here periodically for several years and we have always been pleased -- until tonight. We ordered egg rolls and mu shu pork as we usually do plus we tried hot mandarin chicken which was described as crispy breaded breast meat. Frankly, the mu shu was horrible, just cabbage, egg, and pork in an unbelievable pile of mush. It had neither flavor or texture. We ended up throwing it out as it was pretty much inedible. The hot crispy chicken was neither hot nor crispy. It, too, was basically mush as the breading just fell off the meat when lifted from the container. Even the egg rolls were off of their usual consistency. I don't know if there is a new chef or owner or what. Ok, I hardly ever do this but it needs to be said. The workers/owners of this restaurant are RACIST! Clearly they don't like certain people. But they definitely don't like black people. Apparently I am not the only person who feels this way according to google reviews. They are noticeably nice to ALL white people. When it comes to white customers they smile, wait on them hand and foot, engage in conversation, greet them and say goodbye when the leave. When they see black people or brown people they frown, ignore them, and don't honor any questions or concerns you have. They are mean. I agree with all of the negative comments that people have left and it is clear to see what is going on here. I would rather they put up a sign that says "your kind are not welcome here" rather than be rude after you have taken my money! Overall, good Chinese food. Some items are a hit or miss. I'm going to list the "hits" first. The Special Wonton Soup for two: so good and very filling! The presentation is cool because they serve it in a big bowl with a ladle and give you two smaller bowls. The soup has shrimp, chicken, pork, wonton dumplings, and lots of veggies. My new fav soup. Shrimp fried rice: very good and a huge portion! Chicken and broccoli: usually my go to option at any Chinese place, and here it's pretty good. Also includes carrots. General Tso's Chicken: sauce has a good flavor and again the portions are big. It's very good. Sweet and Sour Chicken: ordered a combination plate and a small portion of sweet and sour chicken was included. It was crispy and the chicken was cooked well. Egg Rolls: the egg rolls come in an order of two. They are my favorite. crispy and well seasoned! I have to order them every time I go!! Steamed dumplings: the sauce that comes with the dumplings is so good! Big portions and so tasty. Now for the not so good. The Mongolian chicken and king pao chicken were in my opinion, not very good at all. We tried to eat them but had to throw them away. So I would stay away from those entrees. I just tried this place yesterday for the first time. Do not make the mistake of discounting this place based on it's outside appearance. My friend lives near and has tried most menu items. She says everything is good. We ordered take out and received our food quickly. I had the triple delight with shrimp, beef, chicken, and vegetables. My friend ordered General Tso's Chicken. We shared an order of eggrolls and an order of spring rolls. Everything was DELICIOUS!! Nothing was greasy and every morsel tasted fresh. The eggrolls were crisp and flavorful. The shrimp were plump, juicy, and cooked to perfection. The chicken was high quality beat meat that wasn't dry. I ate my leftovers today and it tasted even better. Something is different at Hoi Yin. Not as good as it used to be. Last 2 times I ate food from here I had stomach issues. 2 weeks ago I was sick for a week. Both times I ate Egg Foo Young. I think it was the gravy. I won't be eating here again. It's a shame. It's really hard to find good Chinese food like we ate some decades ago. Don't order the wonton soup because they'll only give you one measly little wonton in a cup. Portion sizes here are RIDICULOUSLY HUGE so if you order something and don't like it you're screwed. They use those thick spaghetti noodles for all their noodle dishes. I tried many different dishes here and so far the only one I've liked was the green pepper chicken. I only give this place three stars for one particular reason: they had terrible customer service when I dined in with my fiancé and two children. My children are well behaved and are almost never loud when we go out; this time around there was a small exception to that. Both of them were very hungry. My daughter was a little impatient and cried for a super short time until I gave her a drink. She got quiet but for the rest of the time one of the women working there was very snappy and rude to us. I will preface this by saying that the food here is usually good and before this time the long wait times were met with apologies and offers of a free tea. However, this time fully deserves this 1 star rating. First, every time I order take out from here the 15-20 minutes they tell me on the phone turns into a solid 35-40. I should know better than to show up on time but I can't help it. Next, this time we ordered pineapple chicken which is supposed to have snow peas, mushrooms, water chestnuts, celery, bamboo shoots, pineapple and chicken. There are NOT supposed to be any onions much less the mountain of onions we received in the dish. There were also exactly 2 mushrooms and 3 snow pea pods. Also, we ordered the Mandarin hot chicken extra spicy with fried rice. We got It with very little spice, no onions, which it was supposed to have and no rice. I went back in and asked for my rice and was told I did not order fried rice. Then this super rude lady actually made me pay an extra dollar for the fried rice. Finally, their menu says the bobo platter contains "fantail" shrimp...they are actually sweet and sour shrimp. Either their menu is way wrong or they managed to screw up every piece of this order including the part that requires them writing it down properly even though it was repeated back to me correctly before getting off of phone. Then this lady has the audacity to get an attitude with me and tell me what I ordered and make me pay another dollar even though I didn't get any rice with my order.
