I started with a half liter of their Doppelbock. A tastful bock beer, I really liked it. The schnitzels at Hofbrauhaus are very good and big. I tried the Jägerschnitzel and was very happy with it. A huge schnitzel with plenty of Jägersauce (bacon, peppers and paprika tomato sauce). The sauce had a little kick to it. Excellent. It comes with a nice serving of crunchy French fries. My wife had the schnitzel Wiener Art and had some of my sauce to spice it up. It was very busy, just before a hockey game just down the street. I had the Schnitzel Weiner Art. It's a lovely piece of schnitzel, but very plain. There is a small container of cranberry sauce to add a little sweetness. It's a very small container. Luckily my husband's schnitzel choice had a lot of sauce which he shared with me. The potato salad was not mayonnaisey, but also not especially flavorful. My husband ate most of my potato salad and we shared his French fries. The fries were tepid; I think they should have been hot when served. It was a very busy night for Hofbrauhaus as there is a hockey game tonight and this restaurant is very close to the arena. I have been here many times for dinner, and it's a blast, but this was my first time checking out the brunch. We had a great time! They have a theme to each brunch it seems, and the day we went was country music. It's definitely less "crazy" and loud which was nice because we had my daughter with us. If you're a beer lover and in the area, this is an absolute must-stop! The whole place feels like you've stepped right into Oktoberfest--from the lively vibe to the staff dressed in dirndls and lederhosen. The beer is fantastic. I went for a big stein of the Hefe Weizen, which was refreshing, lightly hoppy, and had that classic hint of banana that makes it so enjoyable. The food was solid. I had the schnitzel and especially loved the potatoes it came with--simple but delicious. I had amazing night here! This is one of my new favorites on the Buffalo Beer Tour with WNY Craft Brew Tour Cards from Habitat for Humanity. I chose the house Hefeweizen - one of the best I've ever had. We went on the November "Tapping of the Keg" night so I also tried the monthly beer of Winterzwickel which was excellent. If you like German beer, this place knows what they are doing. Beers come in a half-liter or full-liter glass which are gigantic. I got a burger (loved the pretzel bun) and also tried my partner's Reuben sandwich (amazing flavor and I am getting that next time). Both the New York Cheesecake and Apple Strudel are outstanding too. Make sure to order your dessert as soon as you decide on one, because these are made in-house and they do run out! The fries are just regular crinkle fries so I'd opt for one of the other side dishes next time. There are plenty of German food options on the menu and of course pierogi for an appetizer. It's definitely on the spendier side; main course meals are in the $20-$30 range. Ambiance - this place is LOUD. Like, really loud. The band is fun; expect an accordion! We sang along with a couple songs we knew, raised our glasses for the Proust song, and enjoyed the entire music selection which sounded like mostly traditional German music with a couple American songs thrown in. The whole crowd sung to Sweet Caroline. They even made the Happy Birthday song fun (admittedly I'd had quite a bit of beer by that point). The main seating area has huge wooden benches at long tables so if it's crowded you may be sitting with strangers aka new friends for the evening. The décor made me feel like I'd flown to Germany for dinner. Our server was absolutely wonderful. There are no closed captions on the tv's, and they are kind of hard to see since they are up so high on the wall, but you can still catch sports scores and whatnot. Before the Sabres game came on there was a horror movie playing - with no subtitles it easily became a comedy which we greatly enjoyed making fun of. Logistics - parking is a challenge. If there's an event downtown (like a Sabres game), parking lot rates range $12 to $30 depending on which lot you choose. The one I parked in uses the Premium Parking app. (side note and pet peeve - can Buffalo please get organized and use the SAME app in the whole city, so we don't have to stand in the cold and sign up for a new app every time we park at a different location?! Seriously!). The entrance is a bit confusing and unclear. Walk through the metal gate, through the courtyard, and up the ramp or stairs, then you'll find the door. Surprised our mom for her 65th birthday here and the place didn't disappoint. From excellent service, great music and of course the food was phenomenal. Hofbräuhaus is a favorite spot of mine in Buffalo. The food here always slaps. That schnitzel sandwich was so tasty and so crispy, I would get that every time. The pretzel is amazing. The beer cheese is so so good. We also got fried pickle spears, which came with a delicious sauce. I loved everything. Whenever I come here, the food never misses. Love the beer. The atmosphere is top-notch. Service is great. You really can't go wrong by coming here. We came to eat before Sabres game and then came back for more beer and a shot ski after the game. Went for the outdoor seasonal Christmas markets at Hofbrauhaus this afternoon. Since I've never been to Germany during Christmas time to experience the Christmas markets, this is the next best thing! The snow was coming down and the wind was blowing. I felt like we were in one of those toy globes that you turn upside down and watch the snow twirl around! My friend and I enjoyed mugs of hot chocolate after doing a little shopping. We enjoyed the lively Christmas music on the covered patio. I took a peek inside the actual dining hall of the restaurant and was surprised that it was so huge. We did not order anything from the menu. Maybe we'll try it another day. read more

I'm very mixed on this review. This was my 1st visit here and after hearing mostly good things I was anxious to check it out. I met a group of old friends here for lunch. My 1st impression was on how huge this place is. It was very empty this particular day, our group of 6 and a hand full of others at the bar. It almost been too big and unwelcoming. I'm assuming coming at night or for an event it might feel different. My 2nd thought was about how dark it was. We actually had to use our phones to look at the menu. I just wasn't crazy about the feel of thr place. Now the positives. First off our server was fantastic! She was friendly and helpful. After looking at the menu she told us about the $5 lunch special, a smash burger & fries. Yes $5! You certainly can't beat that deal. The fries were nice & crispy & not greasy. The smash burger was ok. Best part was the generous amount of sautéed onions on top. Oh and the beer was good, though forgot what kind I got. Not much to add here, my father wanted to come by for a beer after doing some holiday shopping. I ordered a boozy eggnog, which was supposed to be frozen but it had not quite frozen yet so they served it over ice. No real issue there, but it you love eggnog and like it boozy, it's a good thing to order. My Tangy and Spicy burger was ok, the server didn't ask how I'd like my burger prepared which I thought was odd but medium rare was ok cooking for me. Huge beer hall with heavy tables and benches, high ceilings, well decorated and of course plenty of outdoor seating. Not sure the capacity but it has to 1,000+. The bar is large and has high top tables. Throughout our entire time here the music played. They had a Photo Booth and had folks play "hold a liter" game. I loved the menu. Between the sausages and wurst it is hard to make a single choice, so I suggest sharing with your group. One of the best dishes was the potato salad. I know you are surprised to hear this but it was great along with the cucumber salad. You must start off with a pretzel which come with a variety of dips. Terrible service, so overpriced and you have to pay $20 just to park to go into the restaurant. Attendant said the owner of Hofbrauhaus owns the parking lot too. We arrived just after 7pm and they would not pour our $15 beers in a glass mug, said they switched over to plastic. I'm sorry, but we're paying so much for a beer I want it in a glass stein. I get it if it was like after 10 pm, but it was still early. There was an event going on, an adult prom and the place started to get busy. We went for the Christmas market and for dinner tonight. We spent about a half hour at the market. It was okay. I think the best part was the hot chocolate that came with a mug upon purchase. After walking around we headed inside to see if our reservation can be moved up which was easily done. We came for dinner early on Thursday. No problem getting a table as there were very few people here. I was very pleased to see a braised pork shank on the menu. The menu said to check with the server on availability, which I did. My wife and I both ordered it and it was outstanding (ausgezeichnet in German)! In Bavaria it's known as Schweinhaxen, and it would come with the skin on and a thick layer of fat to get through before you got to the meat. The skin and fat had been removed, but the meat was very tender and delicious. I don't know anywhere else you can get this in WNY, and I highly recommend it. Went here 2 weeks ago and sat at the bar with a friend. Service HORRIBLE! Bartender walked by us 24 times in the 30 minutes we were there and the male bartender would not even make eye contact even though we flagged him. Ignored us completely. The service is always good. The food is always great! The last time I came here, I ordered The "Yard" Sampler. I saw that Hofbrauhaus finally added spatzel to the menu, so I had to give it a try. The last time I tried spatzel at a Bavarian restaurant in the area, they served me scrambled eggs - and bad ones at that. I ordered the kasespatzel. Still too eggy, but much better than the last place. So far, only a Bavarian restaurant in the Finger Lakes nails the flavor and consistency. That said, the giant pretzel, burgers, and beer cheese were great even if the burgers weren't pink. The bratwurst is probably good, too. I loved my blueberry lemonade cocktail and the cheesecake for dessert. The restaurant has long benches to capture the German brew house vibe, but we went between lunch and dinner, so we were alone as preferred. Service is good. You have to pay $10 for parking, but we walked a few blocks from Canalside after taking the ferry from the outer harbor. Sadly, it only runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. read more

A great time dancing in chairs! This is a very close mimic to a real beer house in Germany! While they don't usually have tv on the wall in a traditional beer tent, the food selection and beer is authentic. The service did take a bit longer than expected, we got served beer right away but the food took about 45mins to arrive after we received our beer.(might be intentional) The franchise is owned by the Bavaria State itself! Went for their Tuesday night burger special with the Young Black Professionals of WNY Meetup group and that burger did not disappoint! I had the FRÜHSTUCK BURGER which was a breakfast burger with applewood smoked bacon, potato pancake, sunny side up egg, and Frank's hot sauce. it was well-made and well assembled. The fries are good as well. Since this is a German establishment of course we had to get beer (or lager if you wanna be fancy). I went with a recommendation from our server, the Hefe Weizen.
