We came for the Halloween movie night. It was a GREAT price... $10 for a movie, a beer, a glass, and popcorn. However, there was no popcorn, so they gave us some free nacho appetizers instead to share amongst everyone participating. They played the movie outside on their patio with a projector and blow up screen, which I wish it was advertised ahead of time that it was outside, so that we could be more prepared for the chilly weather. It also would have been better if they had their fire pit on and/or the space heater for those unprepared folks like us. Not your average Nachos 9/10 The corn tortilla chips were amazing by themselves. The queso, I was very surprised to taste homemade beer cheese (I didn't look at the menu before), it was really good and a little went a long way on those chips. I just wish the chips at the bottom had a teeeeny bit more. The only other topping was some shredded cheese. Salsa and sour cream were on the side, the salsa was good also. read more

My hubby and I came here for happy hour on a warm Friday evening. We enjoyed sitting on the outdoor patio and found the atmosphere to be relaxing. We loved that dogs are allowed on the patio, and met a very friendly retriever when we visited. I ordered the Let's Go Pils, which was cold, light, and tasty. My hubby ordered the small batch, dry hopped Foeder, which neither of us enjoyed. It was disappointing. This is a trendy, hip place with lots of beer selections. read more

They're currently closed for remodeling but we were told they're shooting for the end of May to reopen. So by the time you're ready to hit their outdoor patio this summer they'll be ready! I'm a big fan of IPAs and I'd already tried That IPA which I really liked so instead I opted for the Good Neighbor IPA which was absolutely delicious, mostly citrusy which isn't what I usually opt for but it worked here. I have a feeling this is going to be a reoccurring spot I visit this summer. This location is absolutely beautiful in an old brick building and the employee who assisted me today was super helpful and informative. They told me they were planning to open up fully June 1st and although it was a bit of a mess, it looked like they were busy getting ready for an opening! Let's Go Pils! That is the one I tried for the free beer Yelp event. Honestly, I'm not a big beer drinker (anymore), but I sure do like an ice cold brew on a hot summer day. I mean, who doesn't? And I'm no connoisseur of beers, never have been. But I will say this Let's Go Pils reminded me of Miller High Life, and that's a test of memory. It was light and very refreshing, tasted great. I would definitely have it again. This beer also brought to mind my personal favorite of Molson Golden. But even more than planning a purchase of a 6-pack of Let's Go Pils ($8.99), I've got my birthday wish ready for July: Highly Suspicious. It sounds delightful and I can't wait. Well, I can wait. (hint to my daughter) Also intriguing is CBW's Ninth Anniversary 9-pack. Yes. That is two 4-packs, your choice, of 16 oz cans and 1 16 oz bonus can. Easily a birthday gift for someone. But if it is an anniversary special, for how long is this available? Possibly until it is time to bring out the 10th Anniversary special. Great beers, need I say more?! What I like about this place is they have a lot of IPA's. Tried a Good Neighbor, Baseball, lnterrbang and Party Mountain...a collab with Big Ditch that is sold out in the brewery and on the last keg but you can get it in Consumer's. That beer is really tasty. I'll be going to Consumers to buy some before it's gone. Collaboration's are done when they're gone. The beer has a floral after taste and is bright and crisp with great hazy notes. Came in on a Sunday afternoon and it was quiet and comfortable. Plenty of seating for when it's busier. My friends and I were hungry and we made the mistake of ordering the food. It was pretty bad. I was holding off on a review because when they opened, there were no vegan options. Now they have The Possible Burger, a house-made beet burger. It says available vegan and the bartender said all the ingredients are vegan but I'm skeptical about the curry yogurt sauce. Anyway, the burger was great, the fries were EXCELLENT, and the beer was good, too. They take your phone number and text you when your food it ready, which felt a little weird. I stopped out at the CBW Brewery and Taproom earlier in in 2021 to pick up a free beer, thanks to Yelp Elite, and really wanted to sit down and grab a draught, but they were only open for pick-up, at that point. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in October, I finally made it inside and had a great time! I got to CBW around 2:30pm on a Sunday afternoon. Parking is along Seventh St. and I saw they have a lot that's only open after 5pm at GBUAHN, but I was able to easily find a spot along Seventh St., about a block away. Now, I usually feel a little nervous when parking on the street anywhere in downtown Buffalo, but I didn't feel too worried, but I'd have to come back when the sun goes down and see if those feelings change. Upon walking up, I could see people in the front playing corn hole and having a good time, instantly bringing a smile to my face. The inside of the taproom is very modern looking and was incredibly clean. Plenty of tables inside and a nice patio in the back with even more seating. All the staff were wearing masks and practicing COVID safety protocols, they definitely want their customers to feel comfortable and safe. After walking around the brewery for a few minutes, I took a seat right at the bar and had myself a couple of draughts. The bartender was great - courteous and friendly and just came across as a good dude. He let me sample a couple of the draughts too, which was nice, as I had a hard time figuring out what I wanted. The draughts I ended up ordering were the "French Macaron Stout" and "The Whale" (American Brown Ale) and wow, were these beers delicious! I sampled the "CBW & Lloyd Snozz Berry Sour". For a sour, this had an awesome fruity flavor and the right amount of tartness at the end, nailing what a sour should be, in my opinion. I spent about an hour and a half here, sipping on draughts and watching football, a successful lazy Sunday if I do say so. As I sipped on my beers, I got to chat with CBW's social media manager, Mike. It was awesome for him to stop over and chat with me, a super nice guy! On my way out, I picked up a six-pack of their Let's Go Pils and a four-pack of the French Macaron Stout (no way I was leaving without the stout at least). I don't buy much beer for myself, but I've had a few of CBW's beers now and each one has been excellent, a great feat. I'm so glad I could make it back to CBW and enjoy the taproom! I love reading about all of the collaborations with other local businesses and breweries that they do and they always seem to have something going on over the weekend. They do an excellent job posting events on their Facebook page, so definitely "Like" it so you can see what they're up to. I'll definitely be back again! read more

For $11 bucks ($4 for an extra patty) you get American cheese, shredded lettuce, caramelized onions, pickles, and burger sauce. You also get a bun which is equally modest. That's because the burger is here to shine. The patties are a combination of beef from Butter Meat Co and bacon from Moriarty Meats which really give this burger a consistency of umami. My husband and I stopped by CBW today to peruse the beer selection. Currently the bar, patio, and dining area is closed. But they are open for take-out beer pick-up, as well as beer delivery. So if you need a CBW-fix, remember that you can still enjoy CBW from the comfort of your own home ... until June! Our beer guide today informed us that CBW is hoping to be open again for drink-and-dine-in by about mid-June. So mark your beer calendars! :-D Today my husband grabbed a six-pack of The Whale Brown Ale, a four-pack of Peach Cobbler Pilsner, and a sample can of That IPA. I'm not a beer drinker, but the hubbs is, although he doesn't much care for IPAs. CBW does do a range of well-loved, grainy, chewy, hoppy IPAs. But for fruitier beer connoisseurs such as my hubbs, they have plenty to offer, too. And they don't hold it against you one bit if you prefer a liter, clearer, crisper brew. No matter what you like in beers, or if you're not entirely sure what you like in beers, the staff here is exceptional with helping you make your selections. The gentleman who helped us today had an expansive, impressive beer knowledge! Take your time to talk it through with CBW's friendly staff, and they'll surely point you in the right direction of a beer that will perfectly please your palate preferences. So, for now, belly-up to the CBW cash register to pick up some to-go beers, or give them a call for delivery. Community Beer Works moved to their new digs a little while ago. It looks very nice. A big improvement from the Lafayette location. They now have s kitchen too. I went to CBW 2 days in a row, because they hsd special beers for 2 occasions. First there was Pi day, celebrated with a Key Lime Pi beer. A nice and refreshing beer with some lime. Not my favorite though; fruity beers are not really my thing. The next day was Ruth Bader Ginsburg's birthday, that was celebrated with a Ruth Bader Gins-beer. A very nice wheat ale. It's better than others I've tried and I've tried a few....the Oatmeal Stout from Buffalo Brew Pub is a close second. I'm so happy to be able to go to my favorite places again, CBW being one of them. They were closed for much of the past year and I'm so glad they are open again! Staff is here super friendly and attentive - Alex working the tables, and sadly I didn't get the bartender's name, but they were both great. I ordered the "gose with" rotating sour (strawberry and lemon this week) and the keg was basically kicked but unnamed bartender was able to squeeze out a couple glasses for me (thank you!). Anyway, the beer is always great, but the reason we came was to eat, and the food DID NOT disappoint. We ordered the chips and dips - huge boat of homemade potato chips served with bison chip dip and their own beer cheese sauce. Great alternative to French fries, we couldn't finish them all. My boyfriend and I decided to each order a different sandwich and share, I got the burger and he got the pork sandy. Both were f*cking awesome. Perfect meat to topping ratio on both, sauces were incredible, food was fresh and seasoned well. I literally have nothing bad to say. Also, love that they use and serve local ingredients from other businesses in Buffalo and say where it's from on the menu. I want to give a shout out to CBW: today, they hosted a free thanksgiving day buffet! turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, green salad, variety of desserts. If you wished to donate any money, it was all going to be split between two not-for-profits: Friends of Night People and Big, Big Table. Not only was the food delicious and plentiful, those two organizations are worth supporting. This was a great place to spend an hour while supporting 2 fine local groups. This place is really cool. I love how they offer various events that are geared toward a wide variety of people including children. I attended the Emmet Otter Jug Band Christmas Event. It was really awesome seeing a mixture of people from young children all the way to older adults having such a good time. CBW passed out kazoos to those that didn't bring them, or didn't get the memo, so we could join in on the fun. We tried the fried pickles. They were good and from Barrel N Brine. There was a little too much breading on them though. A lighter batter would make for a better fried pickle. I liked the sauce that accompanied the appetizer. There is only street parking, which is a bummer, but spots are easy to find. I also wish they had a coat rack, or somewhere to hang your coat on the wall when there are a lot of people in the place and you have to stand and eat, or drink. We were lucky to snag a table, but there weren't any seats at our table, so we had to put our coats on the table. read more

Came here last weekend to support a local animal rescue that I love- Diamonds in the Ruff. Community Beer Works was gracious and allowed the rescue to set up a table, bring in some adoptable dogs, and even offered to donate $1 from every pint of Frank sold to the rescue during the fundraiser. I came here for the elite event last year but have not been able to make it back until now. Let me start off by saying, this is an awesome place to hang out on a sunny summery Saturday! The open up the big doors and let the light in. You have access to the front yard area with outdoor seating and yard games (we played cornhole and spike ball), the inside space which is huge and welcoming, and the patio in the back. Great things about this brewery: 1. Their beers are on point- the Frank is their main beer- perfect IPA 2. They also have delicious cocktails. The Jackie Brown was my favorite on this hot day. 3. They have food. Lots of food. They even do brunch! We got the breakfast beerito and the disco tots and shared them. TO DIE FOR. the disco tots are like an amped up eggs Benedict with a tater tot base. Who doesn't love a tot?! 4. Fantastic food menu, innovative concepts and a beautiful fire hall renovated into a brewery, the new Community Beer Works in Buffalo's lowest west side is a huge asset in bringing people into the neighborhood. Even for a not drinker, Community Beer Works is a great family friendly venue. I'm one of those not drinkers (still visiting a place called Community Beer Works). I ventured in here with my wife most recently and we enjoyed the menu. The cool thing? We didn't have to grab a hostess/table/etc, but on a busy Friday night, we simply went to the back where they have a self ordering kiosk and placed an order for a beet burger, a rice bowl and some "Tatchos." Then, we went into the game room and played some shuffle board and pinball until we were texted that our food was ready. Grabbed the food from pick up counter and found us a table. My wife's beet burger was delicious, but was missing the promised avocado, which wasn't a big deal since we simply asked for it and were given a side. The Tatchos were a delightful comforting heap of tater tots with bits of bacon and chipotle style sauce. The food was delightful, although quite spicy and the beet burger had just a few too many jalapenos for my wife's taste, but added a nice bold kick. My rice bowl was fine - kimchi, brown rice, mushrooms -- a nice vegetarian concoction. I thought that with the Tatchos, it was all incredibly very filling. It is tucked away in a neighborhood a little walk away from Downtown Buffalo..but do not let that deter you from visiting this place. CBW occupies a spacey warehouse, with a large bar, a bunch of board/card games, and outdoor seating (+ corn hole). We ordered pretzels and Banh Mi. We were pleasantly surprised out how good the Banh Mi was and the cheese + mustard that came with the pretzels were tasty. FYI - You put your order in with the bartender, then you get a text to pick it up at the window in the back when it is ready. The beer here is GOOOD. We shared a flight and out of the 6 beers we had, there was not one we did not like. The strawberry milkshake IPA was super interesting, and I recommend trying it if it is available! The bartenders were kind (despite us wearing Eagles gear), and one of the managers came up to talk with us for a bit, which always gets extra points in my book . My cousin took my wife and I around Buffalo for a tour of his favorite bars. This was the first place he took me the Sunday before Memorial Day. The bar was really modern. Great lighting, plenty of space inside and out and a fun room full of pinball machines upstairs. The beer options were solid. One of the better varieties I've seen since moving to the east coast. The bartenders were quick and friendly. The food ordering system has been automated. No servers, so guests can use a POS themselves to place their order. That was fine, but there was only one POS to place the order. I could see it being busy on a holiday Friday and taking forever to order. Also, what's the standard for tipping on those things? I usually tip 20% post tax (I grew up in Las Vegas and tip more than I should), but if there isn't service what do you tip? I did 15%, but in retrospect that was too much. I need to know what the rules are on tipping for automated services. The food itself was decent bar food. I got the chicken and waffles and a pretzel. My cousin got a Greek plate. The chicken was surprisingly crispy and well seasoned. Pretzels were soft and the cheese sauce was above average. The food isn't anything to write home about, but it was better than a lot of bar food. The price point was also reasonable, though portions were small. I would definitely go back and imagine this bar being a lot of fun when it's busy. Friday and Saturday nights are probably a blast here. My cousin mentioned it's in a bad area, but this place would thrive in some of the nicest areas of Las Vegas. Real gem. read more

Gotta be honest... the only beer I've ever had from this place is The Whale. But it's one of my favorite beers, and I looked forward to grabbing a growler at the Bidwell Farmers Market in the past. Nowadays I buy a six-pack at Wegmans. What I love about CBW is how much they do for Buffalo. Fundraising for literacy, help for the homeless, and many other causes makes CBW stand out as a local business. They also give used grains to farms. Sustainability is always a plus! But in the same breath, it's right near D'Youville and other great businesses (Perks Café, Breadhive, the Black Sheep). We went here for a happy hour event. There was an area reserved upstairs with a handful of tables, chairs, and a booth. It was a nice open atmosphere; very clean and modern looking. There was even some seating area out on the back patio. They had ordered medium wings and soft pretzel sticks. Wings were good - well sauced and held up pretty well considering they were kept in a chafing pan. The soft pretzels were doughy and salty as they should be. I liked the cheese sauce, but there was mustard as well. We had the Let's Go Pils beer. It came in a can and was so smooth and easy to drink. My husband liked it so much that he had another. I'm not one to drink very much, so I liked that they had cups and a water dispenser on a table for guests to use. A big plus for me! I hadn't had any of the food before nor been to this location, but it's a great space with insides and outsides and levels and all sorts. I now have two CBW silk screen totes! Hardy bitter, at all (I am one of those who is not a fan of bitter beer), and deliciously grapefruity and just a little fizzy. Which is very refreshing. Gotta say, the hamburger recommendation was spot on. Oh my goodness. Plenty large, nicely cooked, totally delicious. Honestly, I was kinda stuffed with a single.
