This spot is definitely one of our top two breweries in Buffalo (the other being Other Half). We arrived at opening on a Friday (12pm) and were the only people in the joint (although more people started to come in shortly after) We ordered up flight after flight of beer from our very friendly, knowledgeable and efficient beer tender .. until we tried everything on the menu! A wonderful selection of IPA's (including one Quad) and sours (but unfortunately no stouts). There were coolers full of cans as well. AMAZING sours!! the blue milk was so unique and was really reminiscent to what they sell at disney. the service here was above and beyond, extremely friendly bartenders who love to have a great chat, they're exceptionally knowledgeable and passionate. 100% would recommend all their sours, so unique and tasty genuinely in a league of their own. I was walking down Niagara collecting passport stamps and waltzed into this great spot! I'm not a real beer drinker so I asked Kenny (my new bartender friend lol) for a recommendation and lo and behold I now have a go to! Try the Hydra Sangria and thank me later! My friends and I enjoy a good brewery and samplings. Unfortunately, we are just not fans of Mortalis. Both locations just don't hit the mark. The beers are ok, but the service in both locations are lacking. My husband and I have been to the Avon location and completely ignored when sitting at the bar. We wanted to give Buffalo a chance. I didn't want to influence our friends' opinion. Our friends commented on how the bartender was unfriendly and acted like he didn't want to pour beers. Maybe it's part of their brand? We came here for the first time on a Saturday afternoon in July. One of the bartenders, Alden, was helpful and let us try some samples of the mead. She was kind, friendly and informative. The mead that we had was very good. Unfortunately, once Alden left the bar to stock the cooler, the other two bartenders ignored us, even though there weren't many other people sitting at the bar. We would have liked to stay since we enjoyed the mead, but decided to go elsewhere since it was difficult to get any service. read more

Sour, stout and IPA fans come here and come here fast. This new location has an impressive tap list and to go offering. The ambiance is casual, with TBS on the sound system and wedding crashers playing on the tvs. You're bound to have a great time coming here solo or meeting up with friends. They have some board games available and outlets under the bar if you need to charge your phone or you want to bring your laptop to the bar top. Parking is also easy to find. We live down in Erie but every time we're in Buffalo we make sure to come here. The chef and beer tenders are always friendly and easy to chat with. Came here on a brew tour and was hoping to get a flight but they don't do the those, so I got two, half pours of two stouts. I normally enjoy stouts but theirs were way too rich for me. I also found it unusual that they serve their beers in stemless wine glasses. Their drink menu consisted of several stouts, sours, IPAs, and a page of meads. The atmosphere here is great though! It's spacious with lots of tables, but they could use more restrooms. They also have a food menu. My group shared loaded nachos and I appreciated that they layered the toppings so almost all the chips had toppings on them! Overall, I'd recommend for the atmosphere and a beer, but would caution about ordering a full glass of their stouts without trying it first. read more

Wanted to love this place, but the service fell short. My friend and I went for our first time and the bearded male bartender just kept awkwardly staring at us without saying anything but won't take our order. Finally he says coldly we have to order at the register by the middle of the bar. Which feels weird by the way if you're going to be sitting at the bar? Anyway, upon ordering we didn't realize initially they have multiple size pour options and the man taking our order is immediately angry we didn't specify instead of just asking us what size. We went here for lunch/ beer tasting close to noon. We sat at the bar and the guy working was super nice and super informative. We'd had their beer in cans at The Beer Keep so we knew a little about them. They don't do flights but you can get half pours which we liked, we split 4 half pours. Three sours and one IPA. Their sours are nicely fruited and delicious. My favorite was the fillings are mutual. Tasted like grape deliciousness haha. We also got the pretzels which were soft, warm and salty. They came with mustard and cheese sauce-very good. And split a Ruben sandwich it was good I did want a little more meat on it but all around pretty good. The pickles on the side were sooo good. Oh we also tried one of the meads too. They had at least 7 different meads on tap. Unique and cool to have other choices. First time here finally! Went on a Saturday around Noon. Loved sitting at the bar and getting a flight. We went on May the 4th which was super fun for Star Wars day! They had movies playing, special beers, black sparkly streamers on the door - super fun! Haven't tried any food yet, but looking forward to it the next time I go. It was bigger inside than I thought. As someone who is not a fan of beer or sours or mead generally I would say that Mortalis brews some really fantastic things. I genuinely enjoyed about 75% of what I tried and we tried a lot. The fruity beers, sours and meads were very tasty, very fruit forward, and didn't really feel like you were drinking. I also had a very nice stout - which is what I generally prefer when it comes to beers. I'd very much come back for the drinks. The food was on the good side of ok which is why I'm not giving 5 stars. I enjoyed the reuben the most out of all the things I tried and would order it again when I return. I would also try another sandwich or panini next time. The food portions were generous, nachos are pretty huge, but even with pulled pork and brisket not something I'd bother ordering again. My friends enjoyed the pretzels. And had the charcuterie and burnt ends. Mortalis is a 5 for drinks and a 3.5 for food. Go for the drinks :) The service was great, the kitchen was visible and clean, the decor and set up were nice and they have a scrolling view of all their drinks up on most walls as well as scannable QR code menus that are very readable on your phone. I went here for a radio station event with a friend of mine, and before I go to a new place, I always look it up on-line before I go, so I know what to expect. In the pictures it showed a gorgeous living wall, with approx. 50 plants that looked BEAUTIFUL. As a plant mom of over 80 rare and uncommon house plants, I was excited to see it. When we got there I was absolutely mortified at the sight of it! Most of the pots were empty, and what was there were all dead or mostly dead. I wanted to take them all and try to save as many as I could, but I controlled myself. I still have nightmares about it. I am not a beer drinker, but if I have to have one, I enjoy a stout. I see wine on the menu now, but the way they corral you to order, I felt rushed like I was holding up the line, so I made a hasty decision. I ordered a small cherry cheesecake stout, which was so incredibly rich and thick, I could barely drink it. Served in a stemless wine glass...? but OK... let's move on to the food. AMAZING! My friend and I shared brisket burnt ends with some kind of sauce that I could've drank from a jar. They literally melted in your mouth. We had wings with their rotating special sauce of the week. I don't remember what the sauce was, but whoever invented it should be sainted. Nachos were OK, a little boring and dry, but still nachos. We got a pulled pork sandwich as well, it looked good, but I didn't try any. All the food was so rich and delicious, but the cherry cheesecake stout was gurgling in my belly. I got home and promptly threw up everything that I consumed. It was just all too much rich and sweetness. I'd go back for the food, but they don't offer much else I'd like to drink. read more
