4.5 stars! Looks and names can be deceiving! I wasn't sure what to expect, maybe a bit more hole in the wall, from Hobo's, but had saved it to my Key Largo collection due to the great reviews. We were not disappointed. The inside seems to be recently renovated and decorated! We really loved the tiling, colors, and light fixtures. We started with the coconut shrimp, which is a favorite food of mine. It wasn't quite coconut-y enough for me and I didn't care for the dipping sauces. However, we were blown away by our meals! We shared the key line lobster sandwich and lobster & shrimp po boy. Both meals were totally unlike anything we had ever had before (and we've eaten a lot of po boys), and the portions were very generous and well suited for splitting and sharing! The po boy wasn't a traditional style, definitely key largo-fied, and we loved it! It was hard to choose which entree we enjoyed more. Our son got a kids Mac n cheese which I was so pleased to see was actually homemade, not the bright orange stuff from a box. It also came with a generous helping of garlic bread, great for dipping in the cheese sauce. We weren't expecting to be wowed or to have such unique dishes but were absolutely pleased about it! After a good, long day of scuba diving in the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park...we stopped by here for a hearty, filing meal to get refueled. It turned out to be a great choice! The place was bustling with activity, but we were promptly seated. My daughter and I wanted to try their (spicy) Buffalo wings so we shared an order before our main dishes arrived. These wings were hot, "wet" and delicious. They started off on the sweet side and then heated up as the spices kicked in. Their bleu cheese cooled 'em off nicely. As a main I ordered a "standard" cheeseburger...it was huge and cooked a perfect medium rare. The burger tasted like it was fresh of a grill. The waffle fries served as a side were crispy and delicious. We did not get around to trying their key lime pie, but I've heard it is pretty solid and will definitely get a slice next time we are here. read more

Great spot off the main highway in Key Largo - perfect for a stop on your way to or back from Key West. Portion sizes were excellent and compared were reasonable compared to other similar spots along the Keys. Key Lime Fish Sandwich included a massive piece of fish so I felt the value was huge. The coconut shrimp were delicious. Not a huge fan of curry raisin & coconut sauces as they were way too sweet for us, but certainly unique and be a real local way to enjoy them. We were in the keys last weekend and were looking for a new place to eat on the drive back home to Tampa. Looked on yelp and hobos had great reviews. Well we stopped by there for lunch and I'm glad we did. I had the key lime style mahi sandwhich and a cup of lobster bisque. The sandwhich was VERY good. I really liked their choice of bun and the sauce and toppings on the fish were a fantastic combination that work well together. I probably could have eaten a gallon of the soup. It was sooo delicious. The wife had the same style mahi but not in a sandwich. Her portion was huge. We sat outside on the patio. The restaurant is nicely decorated and very comfortable. No water front view here but it's still a must stop place to eat in the keys. And the service was great. We had numerous recommendations to check out Hobo's Cafe as we were planning our trip to the Keys and had it at the top of our list of places to try. Well, they lived up to the hype and serve delicious food! I went with the key lime fish sandwich and clam chowder for lunch and was blown away! I had never thought of pairing key lime this way with fish, but it was incredible! It was a huge filet slathered with cheese, green onions, and tomatoes to off-set the shock of the tart key lime, so it was a challenge to try to eat it all. The clam chowder was hearty and easily one of the best I've had in Florida and tasted so fresh, so I'm glad I went with it as my appetizer. Overall, you gotta stop in if you're visiting the Keys! It was more like a grilled cheese with tomato and fish. Different, but excellent. My wife loved her shrimp dish. It had a key lime butter on a bed of rice...very tasty! Now for the negative. I thought the prices did not match the ambiance - which is tired. $40+ for a hogfish entree with no view? Also I would have loved a cold glass with my beer and not just bring out two bottles. OMG HOBOS! I have been going to Islamorada for over 20 years and never thought to stop to eat in Key Largo on my way in or out. From my last visit to Hobos restaurant in Key Largo the service was good, the food was ok but what bothers me the most was a dripping AC vent that was dropping condensate on my table and food. When I looked up I discovered that the water droplets were coming from an AC vent covered with mold! When I complained to my waitress she told me she would bring it up to the manager. The manager did not even have the courtesy to come over to my table and at least offer his apologies!! I guess that will be the last time I even think about going back to Hobos!! read more

The owners and servers are really nice and they take care of you! We got their conch fritters. Lovely fritters but you had to really look for the conch. The pieces are so so tiny that I couldn't have guessed it had conch at all! I am not a believer of the crab cake burger - the crab cake itself was tasty but combined with two huge pieces of bun it lacked flavor. I ended up finishing just the crab cake. My husband got their Key lime chicken sandwich. He didn't love it either. Was a little greasy for his choice. The prices are really affordable though for Miami area. My crab burger was 10.99!
