The theming is really fun here! The menu is huge and the plates are huge too. Our burgers and wings were good but not amazing- the draw is really the unique atmosphere! Staff was all very friendly too.
Had a great experience at The Hobbit Café! The food was good, and portions worth the money. Everything tasted fresh like a garden! I don't know how old their SCOBY is, but whatever they're doing, the kombucha is good. Decided to sit outside at the round tables which was comfortable. They had fans going, which helped, although I think a couple more would make it better. It's a cute little spot, and I loved the classic rock playing in the background, "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin was playing while we were there, which was ironic cuz they are huge Tolkien fans and many references to the books in their music. Overall, even with the drive and traffic and all, it's worth a day trip. We'll definitely be back!
Everything was so good !! The burgers are huge and my husband calls them 2 hands burgers. Fresh handmade patties, Full of flavor and so many choices to pick from. The service we had was good. Manny was our server and he did a good job. Some of the staff dress up to fit the theme of the Hobbit. There were a few kids but not many. The restaurant is close quarters inside which of course comes a higher noise level, but it was a fun time. They have inside and outside seating. If you are looking for a fun night out, go by and give this place a try, especially if you are a Lord of the Rings fan. Parking in limited and they do fill up quickly.
Huge portions, tasty and fresh! The service was friendly but do keep in mind they get busy fast! The place was cute, clean and a different set up outside. The mead flights are great!
I used to come here about 20 years ago with my sister. I can't believe it's been that long. Not sure why it took me so long to come back, but I sure am glad that I did. Food: all of the food was simply amazing! The burger was top-notch, made fresh and made the perfection. The real winner here is the wings. Unbelievable. They should be known for their wings. These wings are so good. They don't even need any type of sauce. These are some of the best fried chicken wings I've ever taste. The seasoning they put on these wings along with the crispy crunch my god this is a very special wing. If you like wings, you must come back here to try their wings. I'm telling you right now. This is one of the best wings I've had ever. All of the appetizers were amazing. We got some stuffed jalapeño poppers, which were simply. Along with some shrimp eggrolls. Everything on the menu was good. The service was great. Our waitress was very nice and very helpful. She's the one that recommended the wings. The outdoor seating is absolutely amazing . The indoor seating is cool as well. We enjoyed all of their food and will definitely come back ASAP. Once again, I can't believe it's been 20 years, but I'll tell you what this is gonna be in rotation for us . Easy five star review.
We visited this cute little spot when we were in Houston visiting friends. It is a must for Tolkien fans. The menu items are all cleverly named for characters from the series. We waited half an hour for a table during a holiday Monday at lunchtime. The service was friendly. I ordered a delicious fruit salad, the hub had the Uruk fries, and our friends split a large lamb burger. I'm not sure I would need to return, but it was a fun outing.
The food was amazing! I took the Morgoth challenge and it was worth every penny! The mead selection was mind blowing. The ambiance was inviting and allowed me to enjoy my food more. The service was lacking a bit. I understand that they were short staffed and they were training, but they could have taken a bit more concern and checked more to ensure I was good. But they were very friendly.
I know absolutely nothing about Lord of The Rings or The Hobbit, but came for a catch-up lunch with the lab! Their menu is pretty extensive so I decided to just get a fruit salad since I've been craving fruits,,,, super delicious!! It consisted of cut up kiwis, cantaloupe, pineapple, grapes, and bananas- all combined in greek yogurt with chopped almonds and coconuts shavings. I also substituted the honey for agave and overall the plate was super yummy and simple. :)
I ate here way back in the 70's when it was strictly vegan and it was great, and i've never been vegan. Now they cater to everyone. Even better! My wife and I decided to try the beef and chicken fajitas with lots of grilled bell peppers and onions and a side plate of rice, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, pico de gallo and black beans. I picked flour tortillas to go with these goodies. We were amazed at how good this was and plentiful. I had to get an a la carte shredded chicken enchilada with mole sauce...this was another 5 star menu item. We shared a glass of Eureka Heights Buckle Bunny beer...yum! We'll be back and I won't take as long this time. Great service by Gabe, he made us feel welcome.
Came here for a friend that is a big LOTR fan - he seemed to enjoy the space! He was mainly appreciating this display case of a bunch of LOTR figures and trinkets when you walk in the front. This place was hopping on a Sunday afternoon even though it was close to 2pm. Even so, we were seated in about 10 minutes and service felt timely. The menu is a lot to take in - I found myself needing to read everything because so many items are proper nouns/character names that have no obvious correlation to the food item. We ended up going with the classic Dwalin and the Balrog Burger. Also not pictured are the shrimp rolls. The shrimp rolls reminded me of a crab rangoon, but shrimp. We thought it was a little odd that there's just a pile of raw, shredded carrots that comes with the rolls. The Dwalin is supposedly an award winner, according to the menu, so we had to try it. I personally think the concept is not quite my taste, but my friend enjoyed it. We also got the Balrog Burger which is an impressive sight to see! I enjoyed that one much more, though, I had to deconstruct it to eat it because it was so massive. I think overall the food is decent, and the portions are massive. I think food is 3/5, value is 4/5, and I'll just round up on the stars for the theme and uniqueness of this place. Definitely open to coming back and sharing the Morgoth Burger with a couple friends! Free parking in the lot! I think they only accept reservations for parties larger than 6.
The atmosphere was awesome, the food was fabulous we shared the world renowned curry chicken salad sandwich. Enough food to share, Very good. Our server was amazing, the drinks were great mango smoothie and the green cucumber drink was amazing. Everyone should go experience this restaurant
If you're looking for an upscale place with white linen napkins and waiters in black tie then this is not your joint. If you love an old school Hobbit themed menu and staff that have pointed ears and are very friendly then this is your vibe! They were very nice and did their best to absolutely help all of the diners on a Saturday evening to be seated and served as quickly as possible. While we were there for a little longer than we normally would be, that just gave us more time to take in the scenery, and chit chat amongst ourselves. Unfortunately with the gemrification of this area I cannot imagine that these little restaurants will last more than another 5 years so do everyone a favor and go get yourself a great carnivore or vegan burger today!
I've been wanting to try this place since I moved to Houston. I did not regret coming in today for brunch time. 51 years serving food back up this restaurant, decorated for the fans and lovers of the hobbit/ Lord of The Rings. Love the decoration, and the ambience. I got there around 11am and it wasn't full, sat inside next to a cute little windows, I ordered the DWALIN sandwich (curry chicken breast with grapes amd almonds) there's something about the sweet and savory mixed that gave me thanksgiving sandwich memories it was absolutely amazing and must I say HUGE portion; it comes with a side so I got the Uruk Fries (chorizo queso and jalapeños) MAN those Uruk Hai know about food ;D Service was quick and staff helpful and kind, by the time I was leaving the place started packing up around lunchtime (12-1pm). The menu is so diverse and they have multiple vegetarian options that even if you're not you'll fell tempted to try. Need to come back for the happy hour, and to try the meads and beers! ****** DON'T FORGET TO ORDER YOUR COFFEE FROM THE MINES OF MORIA BELIEVE ME AFTER YOU TRY IT YOU'LL FEEL READY TO DEFEAT ANY BALROG ******
We went for my birthday and 50th anniversary because my friend had never been there but yelps. She got homemade chicken salad and I want to say almond salad that I think were secret menu items you have to request. I got the balrog burger which was delicious and 10/10 recommend. I've been here like a million times and have never had bad service until this visit. The waiter was very rude to us and weren't really sure why. We will be going back of course read more

It was our first time going to this restaurant. I had always wanted to go. The decoration was nice. I loved the inside because of the decor and outside was pretty clean for being it was outside around trees. The menus had quite a big selection. If you go on the weekend then you get a second menu called second breakfast. I really liked having breakfast as an option. The burgers are definitely a must try. I saw so many I wanted to try I'm going to have to return. The kids menu had decent offerings. The service was slow but it was a busy day so I didn't expect speedy service. What I didn't like was how our server ignored us when we tried to get her attention to ask for refills or Togo boxes. I will also say double check your check before you pay. I didn't notice till after we paid and left that they changed us for 3 adult sodas when we had 1 adult soda and 2 children sodas. read more

Delicious food but pricey. $9 for a sliver of pie. And I mean a sliver. Two inches at the wide part. We won't do that again. But the meal itself was divine! And the mead! They have the largest selection of mead in Houston. I chose the Viking blood and it's 19.00 a glass. But that's the sweetest mead I've ever tasted! I would buy a whole bottle of that. The waitress was helpful in my mead selection because I prefer a very sweet drink. She was attentive to our needs and wants. The decor and menu has the Hobbit theme and they could actually do more with that theme on the menu if they wanted. By all means come here for lunch or dinner and be patient. Parking is a challenge. And I suggest backing into your parking space otherwise leaving is a bigger challenge. But the food is worth it. And I hope someday the dessert pie slices get larger if they are going to continue to charge $9. read more

First off; adorable place decor wise!! You really are in the shire! The service was amazing and so friendly! Now the food. W.o.w. My husbands word was "phenomenal ". My son scarfed down his boudin burger before I could get a picture. The menu is vast with a great selection for herbivores and carnivores alike! The selection of meads available was crazy! The only downside if I have to say is the really loud ladies next to us. And that's not hobbits fault. lol We can't wait to return to this unique eatery in Houstons montrose district :) read more

I haven't been here in over 6 years. But till this day I'll continue to say that you'll definitely get the moser bang for your buck here. I can't fit my mouth around this burger. I can't finish that plate of fries. Realistically if I were indeed to be trekking to Mordor I would need a meal this big. You don't have leftovers anywhere else you go! Wheat bun for those wondering, and that pattie doesn't have a hollow spot in it. Perfect for your your relaxing times at the prancing pony or an afternoon in the shire. As Gandalf once said. A burger is never finished all at once. It's finished simply when it is time to be finished. I love this place. Always have and always will. read more

Food was great! Large portions at a decent price. The only downside is we had a bit of a larger party, since seating for larger parties inside is limited our wait was pretty long. The large group tables had finished eating but wanted to stay and visit so that was definitely a bummer for us. Wait was about an hour so that could be a possibility for anyone with a large group. Other than that, the drinks were fantastic, food was great, and atmosphere was awesome! Will definitely be going back again. read more

Always great service, great food (for meat eaters Rey the Aragon Avocado burger - delish!) and two of my favorite vegetarian wraps are the Gandolf and the Smaug. Saturdays and Sundays from 11-3 is brunch where you can try some amazing omelettes, pancakes, and even vegetarian breakfasts that taste amazing. Be cautious though! This place is popular at lunch and dinner and doesn't take long to fill up long before noon so get there early and/or plan to have a short wait. But I can tell you, it will be worth it! read more

Overall, Hobbit Cafe is a quaint little place, neat in decorations, very friendly staff, but the food is not all that great. They do have a large selection including a massive burger that if your able to eat the whole thing, you get a free T-Shirt, it was a must try, so i got the morgoth burger, several problems right off the bat, the bacon was thick and over cooked, impossible to chew, the smoked boudin link had a ton of rice and was designed to be a filler, finally the burger was dry, i got through 1/4 of a piece of bacon before I gave up trying to eat it, i did finish the boudin, egg, avocado, egg roll, pickles and popper, but seriously couldn't do anything with the hamburger or bacon, so I just packed the rest to take home. We also ordered the Sméagol's shrimp enchiladas, very small shrimp and the sauce soaked in making the enchiladas inedible, not too happy with that dish. The fry side was ok except they put chorizo on them and that wasn't too tasty, the onion rings were as good as bar food gets. The employees were great, very friendly and gave great service. This is a unique place to visit once, but a repeat visit, not so much. read more

Traveling through Houston and decided to stop here after seeing it online for the LOTR references and mead. The whole place is LOTR themed with the menu having LOTR references and themed decor. Service was quick and we got our mead flight and food pretty quick. We got the meadfest flight, which had a sampling of 6 different meads, with highlights being a blackberry mead and an earl grey mead, all were good but strong so be ready for that We got the balrog burger which was one of their highlighted burgers and a meadle-earth burger, just replaced the goat cheese with Swiss and a side of Uruk fries (topped with queso, chorizo, and jalapenos). All were good, and the portions were also huge so we had a lot of leftovers to bring home and have for another meal (or two with the balrog burger). The burgers could have been cooked a tad less since the patties themselves were slightly dry, but the toppings made up for it, especially the mead mushrooms on the meadle-earth burger, where you could actually taste the mead! read more
Some good, some not so good. First time visit last week (December 2023), and we ordered the bacon cheeseburger, queso fries, and mixed meat (beef and chicken) quesadilla. The burger was fine, more towards the well-done side, but certainly a substantial size and good taste. The queso fries were crispy, and held up well in the bowl of queso. The quesadilla was, however, disappointing. While the filling was tasty, the tortillas themselves came out limp and soggy. I'm not sure if it was the heat/moisture of the fillings, or the juices from the cooking itself, but the tortillas had a wet texture . We ended up peeling them away and only eating the fillings. I know the restaurant has a very good history, and one dish does not make a menu, so I do plan on returning again soon - but, I'll skip the quesadilla. read more

My daughter wanted us to travel to Hobbit Café to celebrate her birthday. We felt welcome and we were promptly seated inside. The restaurant is cozy and the service received was top notch. Vanessa H was our waitress and she was attentive and answered any questions we had. We ordered three dishes, an appetizer, and a dessert. Sodas were about $3.00 per person. Our plates averaged $19.15 per person. We had zero, zip, nada complaints. The food temp was perfect, tasted fresh, and delicious. The dessert was delicious. We had no trouble parking. Tolkien and patio fans alike will enjoy the Hobbit Cafe. It's clear that this has been a beloved spot for decades, and I'm glad to have gotten the chance to check it out. We came for a late lunch around 2pm on a Saturday (spring break) and it was busy, but in the good way - everyone was enjoying the gorgeous weather on the inviting patio and the vast selection of beers, ales, meads, ciders, etc. Everything on the menu has a fun Tolkien-themed name, which makes perusing the (extensive) menu a joy. Book readers will be happy to know there are plenty of references that did not make it into the movies (such as Tom Bombadil). Parking can be a bit tight when it's busy, especially if you have a big car. I am grateful for our server who recommended a beverage for me since I am relatively unfamiliar with beer and don't like anything too heavy. My friend and I shared the fried pickles which were delicious and each ordered the "slim" version of sandwiches - I cannot imagine how big the regular size is because the slim is huge! The burgers look delicious so if I ever find myself in Houston again, I'll have to come back to try one. read more

This is a cool place. Has indoor and outdoor seating. Very busy place at brunch. Excellent service and food. If your a Lord of the Rings fan you ought to hit this place. They sell t shirts and glasses too. The food was great. Very large portions. I could not finish all of it. Good variety of food on the menu. I had the Bolgs black and blue burger with onion rings. Delicious!! I have been told they have music in the evening sometimes . I would definitely go back if I'm in Houston again read more

Pick up order was fast and easy. I am not too happy about the charges and food quality. Jamaican Jerk Burger listed for $9.99 on the menu and price increased to $11.99 + tax + 10% to go order packing fee. I got there 4 min before they brought out my order and it was cold. Like how??? It was also very sweet. Caribbean Jerk Sauce taste more like Sweet BBQ Sauce, dry patty, stale potato chips. What's left for me to enjoy? read more

This has been in my Houston foodie collection for a bit. The hubby is a huge Lord of the Rings fan, and the cafe has a buffalo burger. We had to make a trip down! The cafe is super cute with the patio area, and the inside as well. Since it was the evening, the patio was lit up with cute lights, and heaters. The menu that we received was very cluttered making it hard to determine the actual base price of the buffalo burger. It indicated that a buffalo patty was $3.99 more. We both had cheese on our burgers (which was extra) and fries (also extra). As well as 2 sodas. The food was really great! Overall the whole experience was great. The only downside was the price. Since it wasn't clearly marked in the menus, it was a bit of a shock ($$), hence the 4 stars instead of the 5. I do recommend this as a good place to try once. read more
