I travel to Hong Kong often and I thought it might be fun to bring my husband some beers that are local to Hong Kong. HK Brewcraft served up exactly what I was looking for! The store is very small (compared to beer store in the U.S.) - it is the size of a studio apartment. Two walls have shelves with beers, one wall has refrigerated beer, with the rest of the space in the store dedicated to brewing supplies. I was really impressed with the variety of malts they had available to customers. They also had starter kits for various types of beer styles. We were only there to buy beer, so we went straight for the walls of bottles. I was expecting to find mostly beers from this area, but I was surprised to see many beers from craft breweries in the states. In fact, HK Brewcraft had an American beer I hadn't been able to find in U.S. stores!! HK Brewcraft had a lot of fun specials, like special 6-packs, and FREE BEER (with a sign that said, "Expired, drink at your own risk"). All of the beer from Hong Kong is in the refrigerator. The owner was extremely helpful in providing recommendations, including tips like, "This brewery makes the best beer because their brewery is the cleanest." (!). I walked away with three beers for the cost of $14.14 USD - obviously pricier than we would expect in the U.S. , but this was a souvenir for me. I was able to pack my beers between clothes and it made it all the way back to the States with no issue. I don't speak much Cantonese or Mandarin, but we were able to find and communicate with staff in English just fine. If you, like me, have no idea what to buy - consider going to the nearby Globe (see my review!) first to try out some beers, then come here to pick up your favorites to enjoy back home. Location: Sometimes they have someone out there with a sign, but when we went they did not. Stand at the corner of Stanley and Cochrane, Head uphill on Cochrane, and look for the orange doors; the entrance is to the RIGHT of the orange doors. The building number is 15 and they are on the 4th floor. If you want to take the train, go to Central Station and take exit D2. I will be back on my next visit to HK!
Do you fancy doing something a bit different in HK? Fed up of Sunday brunches? Check out HK Brew Craft. Located at 15 Cochrane Street, under the esco between Wellington Street and Queen's Road, it's a bit hard to find (up on the fourth floor of an old building), so look out for the lady holding the sign outside. However, once inside, you will be greeted with wall to wall beers and beer brewing supplies. HK Brew Craft run 3 hour brewing sessions, where you will make your own beer from scratch. We had an expert called Chris who made the process so simple. The session is around HKD600, and you have the option to add about HKD300 to get the brewing kit to finish your beer at home (it does take a few more weeks of fermentation etc.). Throughout the session, Chris got us to sample a load of different craft beers from around the world, taking us on a real taste journey. Needless to say, the brew may not have been the best we could make as we did end up a bit "distracted" by the samplers! As well as the courses, the shop sells loads of different brewing kits and accessories, so you can take you new found talents home. There are also a plethora of different craft beers to buy from all over the world, including local Hong Kong brews. The team at HK Brew Craft are fantastic. They are real experts in the field, so whether it's home brewing or just brew tasting you want, go an pay them a visit for great advice and purchases.

I asked the bar staff at several craft beer bars about good bottle stores in Hong Kong, and a couple of them recommended this place. The store is on the 4th floor of a building by the street. I found that they had an excellent collection of local craft beers and a good coverage of beers from around the world. They also sell home brewing equipment and different malts and hops; this is serious craft beer store! The staff was courteous and knowledgeable. She recommended an IPA, Si L Dan, which was a collaboration between their staff and a local brewery. read more
Considering the abysmal state of craft brews in Hong Kong, places like HK Brewcraft become all the more important in contributing to the drinking culture of the city. I learned only of this place thanks to Yelp and was fortunate enough to attend an event or two at their location in Central. It all starts with education. They've got the documentation, training, and high quality inventory to help make any homebrewer's dream a reality. They've brought in actual brewery masters before to help train folks on their palate (which I could always use work on) and get them started with their home brew kits. The staff is knowledgeable and above all, passionate. They are also homebrewers as well, with some of them happily leading on sessions on their methods of homebrewing. From novices to seasoned home brewmasters, they've got the right tools in place to help people achieve the results they're looking for in duplicating certain craft beer profiles. And they've somehow managed to make it all work, even with a small interior and tough to notice location. A great team goes a long way and I can't wait to see what they have in store next. I admit, I've never home brewed. The obsessive cleaning part doesn't appeal to me, and I don't see why I have to make some mediocre beer when there are so many awesome brews I want to try. I do have friends who brew and I enjoy trying their creation (well, sometimes), I just see my hobby more in drinking the final product rather than making it. I do enjoy coming to HK Brewcraft for their nice selection of craft beer. They have many local brews, such as Moon Zen, Gweilo and Nine Dragons, as well as Young Master on tap for growlers. There are crafts from Japan, Australia, New Zealand, UK, US, as well as Brewdogs from Scotland and Mikkeller from Denmark. With over $600 purchases you get free delivery, and the beer arrived each individually bubble-wrapped, easy for me to put into my luggage to bring home. Staff is friendly, and some are knowledgable about the beer and able to help with my selection. They also offer beer classes. read more

I'm a homebrewer, so this is my go-to place to pick up supplies. The staff is helpful and they have a decent selection for brewing and a great selection of craft beers. Their beer making classes are popular, so it might be a good place to start if you're curious about homebrewing in Hong Kong! read more
