Material not brought to the edge.

I only needed basic landscaping work done (trimming, putting down weed barrier, edging, and mulching) so I was not concerned about the lack of experience. They were polite and courteous and for the most part, did a good job and I thought the price was reasonable compared to a large landscaping company. However, about a week after they completed the work, I started to notice weeds coming up. I thought maybe they had just missed a few spots when putting down the weed barrier, but as more and more weeds popped up, I decided to take a look. I discovered areas where there was no weed barrier to be found. And in most areas, they did not bring the barrier all the way to the edging, which was why weeds were coming up all around the perimeter of the landscaped area. (I have to say I was a little concerned when one of the workers asked me what weed barrier was!) When I contacted the person who scheduled the project (and sent pictures), he basically told me that it was good enough. He said "It looks like the landscape fabric was installed correctly in most areas." Then he offered to have them come back at their hourly rate, so basically wanted me to pay twice for something that should have been done right the first time. If these guys were unsure of what they were doing, they should have called and gotten instructions. There also should be someone who checks their work since they are inexperienced. What kind of ethics/integrity are you teaching these kids, that if you are working for someone and you do 'good enough', it's okay? I think the saddest part about this is that they are a Christian organization. If so, I think they need to read more than just Ephesians. The bible also says, "Whatever you do, work as if you are working for the Lord." and "Glorify Him in all you do." This is not how you treat customers. Just my two cents. Hire at your own risk, or at least supervise closely. I need to go fix some landscaping now :P
