Right next to the Dim Sum place tucked in a corner, we have MoMoCha. I've heard great things about this boba place, and I will say I'm a huge boba connoisseur. One cool thing about this place is they have a drink special daily at a specific time. Of course we didn't get there at that time though, which didn't bother me too much. I've only been here once - got the watermelon green tea, which I think is a summer seasonal drink. I really liked it! It really helped to quench my thirst on that hot summer day I stopped by. Really good and strong real watermelon flavor had a nice balance with the green tea, meaning that while I could tell there was green tea in my drink, the watermelon came through much more. It is my cousins and I's go to spot and continues to be because of their friendly staff, amazing drinks, and good vibes. I am a frequent boba consumer and have tried so many different places but his tea continues to be my number 1. The staff at his tea is very friendly and helpful with whatever questions you have. Their staff is always on top of asking what level sweetness and how much ice you want which I find as a kind gesture. His tea is alway very clean and is good place to study and do homework (they offer free wifi). My favorite drink is their mango green tea it's on the sweeter side but again you can change the level of sweetness and adjust it to your liking. Pricing is also very reasonable no drink is over $6!! First time trying His Tea. Since I always don't care for milk tea that tastes too sweet, so to be safe, I had my husband order his drink first. He ordered 50% sweetness. I gave his a try and felt that it was way too sweet, so I told the man (owner?) at the cashier that my sweetness level would need to be way way less than whatever my husband got. I had really high hopes for MoMoCha but it was just average. The Matcha Red Bean which was really good and not too strong. The Lychee Tea was very refreshing but it was hard to finish because it was way to sweet. We asked for the Thai Tea to be half sweet but it tasted really sweet. Some negatives - the cups were really tall and the straws were really short which made it super annoying because we kept having to fish the straws out of the top. The lids were also annoying because it wasnt the classic plastic seal that you punch through. It was the lids you sip out of for hot drinks which is counterproductive because the boba and lychee bits dont even fit through the small drinking slot. I usually don't leave negative reviews but I'm doing so this time so the owner can get the point that running a business is no joke. I hope the owner reads this because, while I don't own a boba shop, I have friends and relatives who cook it regularly. I've had some great boba on the West Coast as well as in Taiwan, so I'm not walking into this blind. I stopped here after eating across the street, and my first warning sign I should not have was the fact that nobody greeted me upon entering. The staff were utterly engrossed in doing absolutely nothing, hut they were too busy to say, "Welcome to MoMoCha!" Additionally, this boba shop was devoid of the usual clientele, that is to say, a handful of abg's and a mix of young people. The only customers there were two tired looking students, two guys having a chat, and some middle aged people who looked utterly lost. The staff there seemed to be a young, thin guy who was doing a good amount of the work and a very petite, pale gal with dark glasses and thin hair who was sitting on either a box or cooler. As the guy was busy, I walked up to the gal. She just looked at me and walked away instead of getting my order. I don't know if this is a management issue or maybe if they made the mistake of putting on two new people at the same time, but this shop couldn't handle business even if it deserved it. Undeterred by this abnormality and intent on killing my calorie count for the day, I ordered a rose milk tea. They we're out of boba. It wasn't even 8pm and they had no boba in a boba shop :-/ I was fine with that, and I ordered with grass jelly instead. The guy hands me a cup and straw. Like so many of my fellow ABC's, I skinned the straw in a fluid motion and was about to grab the cup for a quick flip to mix before delivering that satisfying coup de grace of pointy straw through plastic film when I noticed the cup had a Starbucks style plastic lid on it. W.T.F. I asked the guy, "Could you seal this for me?" He said, "Do you want it sealed?" "Isn't it usually sealed?" He took the lid off and tried to seal it twice... The sealing machine wasn't working and the film just kept peeling off... I told him not to sweat it (he made an honest effort) and took my drink with a lid. The rose syrup was good but unstrained and I could feel the bits of rose petals getting stuck in my teeth. Be it would obviously be better in a light, clear drink than a milk tea. The tea itself also felt unstrained or at least over boiled because I could get the dryness that comes with powdery tea leavings being mixed with the fat, yet somehow the green tea taste was still weak. Maybe I've ruined my taste buds on matcha, but the combo of over boiled mouth feel and weak taste means the owner tried to skimp on brewing by boiling less tea for a longer time, and it shows. The grass jelly lacked bitter herbal flavor and was very weak in taste as well. The cream which I ended up tasting separately was lightly salted foam, but it wasn't made from whipping cream cheese or heavy cream since it left a greasy rather than a rich fatty after and I regret swallowing it (feel free to insert a that's what she said joke if you wish). I would not go here again and I strongly recommend that people avoid this shop. In the end there's 2 out of 5 stars rather than just 1 star because I'm not angry at the staff or anything, just severely disappointed by the business. Again, when I say that business isn't a joke, maybe the owner busts their ass and runs multiple locations and has other things going on in their life... If so, they should just close the shop and focus on the more popular location or consider hiring a good manager and paying them well. Nothing hurts like watching an honest business run itself into the ground, and anyone who's come here should plainly see that this is where the place is heading, especially since even that buff guy who flexes at every boba shop hasn't taken a photo here.
