So i must start of by saying that i am a big fan of Sunday beers, because the ambiance and energy at establishments are more lay back for a good conversation. Hiro 88 is by far the place to be on a Sunday in Omaha if you are craving a beer some sushi or some one on one time with someone. Its happy hour all day and the specials are very competitive but what beats its competition for me is how roomy it is and how it accommodates groups of several sizes without much of a wait. I ordered the Vietnamese chicken salad and was sorely disappointed. Heavy, oily and with zero flavor. To top it off, the chicken in the salad was.... broasted? It tasted exactly like they bought it from a bag in the grocery store... Not good at all. I couldn't eat it and didn't even want to try. An hour later, I still had a heavy coating of oil on my tongue combined with a deepmusty flavor from broasted dark chicken meat... Just gross... A Vietnamese chicken salad is supposed to be light, refreshing, full of citrus and cilantro with a hint of spice....This salad was absolutely disgusting. I ordered delivery but had I been in the restaurant, I would have promptly and immediately returned it while offering the chef lessons on how to properly prepare traditional Vietnamese cuisine. read more

With the addition of Hiro 88 I've now got 3 places to choose from while living in the Old Market. And I choose Hiro becauseit's trendy but not pretentious, the staff is nicer than that of my old option, Blue Sushi Sake and Grill. I love that they have Toro. Order the beef short ribs, they are to die for. It could possibly be some of the best Galbi I've ever had, sans bones. One caveat. I was there last weekend while they were packed. The wait for my food was excrutiating not to mention the Toro sashimi I ordered was slightly frozen at the center.....I'll chalk it up as an accident and hope it doesn't happen again. read more

Definitely one of my favorite sushi places in Omaha. Either location is fine but I prefer this one even though I live closer to the one in Eagle Run. I've only been here for happy hour but I feel it's the best time to go. Delicious rolls, anything with eel sauce is a definite must. Another thing I love is the ambiance of this place. I have never actually been into Hiro but have had their catering many times at work. The sesame chicken is allllllways dry as hell making it somewhat uncomfortable to eat. The teriyaki salmon however was completely drenched in teriyaki to the point it was too much and tasted horrible. The crab rangoons are puny and aren't even all that good. They try to be a fancy Chinese and the food just doesn't add up. read more

I had never been to Hiro before and the service was TERRIBLE. If you were seated with the server Danielle, run away immediately. She messed up our checks at least 4 different times, over charged everyone, and made us sit there for about an hour to fix it. Girlfriend and I love sushi and hadn't tried Hiro 88 before. The options were endless and our waitress, Melanie, was awesome with giving suggestions. I highly recommend trying the Gyoza for an appetizer and the Husker Roll as one of your rolls. She also made some great suggestions for drinks. Will be back for future visits! read more

I have been to this Hiro 88 and the newer one in Lincoln and overall I would give both an overall "A-OK." The ambiance of this chain is very nice and the service is always friendly. However, the sushi just is not that great. And isn't that the whole point going to a sushi restaurant instead of buying that prepackaged junk at the supermarket to have better quality sushi? Perhaps I am biased because I am from California so I am used to elaborate rolls with fresh seafood at about $7 but even with the Happy Hour prices at Hiro 88 it's still not all that compelling to eat here. There is always way too much rice on each sushi roll, the rice is not moist, each sushi piece is cut incredibly large so you really have to unhinge your jaw to shove a whole piece in (not so lady-like for first dates), and I really think the sushi rolls could afford more sauces on top to compensate for the lack of moistness. The crab rangoons are delicious but then again it is very difficult to get wrong something fried and stuffed with cream cheese. read more

We recently found out that Hiro 88 has a reverse Happy hour and is open till midnight on the weekends! Specialty Rolls for $6 is amazing! We love the Las Vegas and the Hiro Crunch. Definitely will be back for late night eats in the future. read more

Never never again. The food was good but the service was horrible. It took over 2 hours for my family of 4 to get our food and we had to take 1/2 of it to go as we just wanted to get out of there. Our server would disappear for 20-30 minutes at a time and when she would finally come around she would just apologize for the sushi taking so long. I finally had to go to the front and ask for our bill to get our server back to our table. For over $130 I know we could go somewhere where they value the service aspect of the business. read more

Three strikes... I'm done. Terrible service! On one occasion while dining in our waitress spilled water all over me, then got our order wrong and we had to Wait over an hour for food. I understand things happen and I was very patient and understanding about the matter. Second experience: dining in with my sister for dinner and we are blessed with the same waitress that spilled water all over me. We had the same experience. The waitress put in the wrong order and we had to wait an hour before food came out to the table. 3rd and Last Time! My family from out of state came in one night and we decided to came here for happy hour. The restaurant was 80% EMPTY we have a party of 7 and the host refused to seat us. Management said we had to wait 8 more minutes to be seating if we wanted to order from the "Happy Hour Menu" keep in mind we are 7 people and its freezing (snowing) outside. I asked the manager and hostess if we could have a seat instead of blocking the entrance to the restaurant and they denied our request said if we want happy hour we have to wait (The restaurant is EMPTY) I walked out and we ate at blue and had happy hour there with no problem. WORST MANAGEMENT I'VE SEEN, poor customer service. Don't WASTE your time. I'm still in disbelief from what terrible service one could give. read more

First of all the place is cute and clean! They have spectacular appetizers. I'm one for crab rangoons and edamame so that's my go to. My friends like sushi but I don't so it's a great place to go cause of the variety. If your more of a steak chicken burger person the sesame chicken is so great. Prices are pretty good for the quality. Food comes out so fast I wash my hands in the bathroom and come back to hot appetizers. Service is pretty near good too. Although the decor is very nice if a bit to unlighted to see the menu or the artifacts, the food basically sucked & the price was totally inappropriate for what one received. For a $27.00, 14 pc. Shirachi plate w no rice, the fish tasted like it was soaked in some disinfectant, as it probably was, & it came w either a salad OR Mizo soup & not both! I got the salad which consisted of, literally, 8 pcs. of pre packaged Sysco Sprng mix & a touch of ginger dressing! Also $20.00 for an 8 oz bottle of Sake!! Reminds me of the tourist places in SF like Alioto's on the Bay which serves garbage to the tourist that they know will never return!! Visited last night and loved the experience! We had just came into town from Kansas City to visit a friend and he said we HAD to go here. The boys ordered sake bombs and they loved them! We ordered a bunch of different rolls of sushi (about 5 or 6) and I think it was some of the best quality sushi we've had. I am a huge fan of their Vegas sushi rolls, they're a must try! I'm not a big sushi fan. I used to order it frequently but had some bad experiences (at other establishments) and now I typically choose other options. Hiro88 offers some very flavorful cooked meals and appetizers. My friends and family always compliment their sushi and frequently comment that they prefer it to Blue. I spend most of my time in the bar at Hiro88. The atmosphere is really fresh and modern and unlike any other places downtown. The last couple of times I have been there, our server Zara has been great. She makes good recommendations, she is quick with our drinks and she is pleasant and friendly. Actually, I've noticed all of the staff members have great customer service skills. My only complaint about the bar is that the seats, although cool and trendy, are not the most comfortable. I was excited when Hiro opened a 2nd location downtown. I've enjoyed their west Omaha location for years and I like Hiro88 even better. read more

We had a fantastic time at dinner. My husband and I are new in town and wanted to try something different. We walked by Hiro 88 and decided to try it. Terrance was our server and he did a great job explaining the menu. Melanie was serving other tables but overheard we had not had sushi before so she stopped by and gave us suggestions. They both listened to our likes and dislikes and did a great job helping us put together the dinner menu. Food was delicious and a bottle of Prisoner wine for $49, which is normally $70-$100 in the restaurants we go to. We also sat outside so you can't go wrong with awesome service, great food and wine! I've eaten Mongolian Beef in many restaurants in many cities, but the Mongolian Beef I ordered for dinner on Monday, July 8, 2019 was absolutely exceptional. The serving size was enough for two meals, and the flavor of the meal was like manna from heaven! Although I live about a block from the Hiro 88 in West Omaha, I will willingly drive to the Old Market for either a lunch or dinner repeat! I visit this Hiro 88 relatively regularly, as I work and live downtown. Today I visited the downtown location for lunch with a friend. I ordered 2 rolls (both with cream cheese) and after taking my first bite, the taste was over powering and I did not like it - I asked the server if I could get something else to replace my meal, in which she said sure and took my plate to the kitchen. A few minutes later, Rick, the manager, came over to the table. He did not greet us at all, and went in on that since I had modified the roll (I asked for no asparagus) that he requires the customer to pay for it since "he can't reuse the item" (which is repulsive...when I was in the restaurant industry if food hit the table and was sent back to the kitchen you had to trash it NOT serve it to another table). He went on to say "he didn't know what he could do to fix the situation", but that he would not comp the rolls I did not like. The past few times I have visited this location my experiences have been poor, which at first I dismissed as a maybe a bad/busy night - but it appears this is becoming a pattern. Customer experience/satisfaction should be a top priority for any restaurant - and it is apparent that is not the case for Hiro 88. I wasn't trying to be conniving or deceitful to get my meal free (like some customers do), I simply wanted to replace it with something else - and now this manager has left me frustrated enough to literally make a yelp account just to write this review... OVER $14!! Something is wrong here. Go to Blue Sushi. read more

I typically come in on the weekends to Hiro for their sushi selection and craft cocktails. I'm not one to write reviews but my last two visits were vastly different in comparison. I first came in on a Sunday and sat at the bar with a friend. It was busy, so I expected a wait in service, which isn't a problem. The sushi was good. (I suggest the Hiro Crunch.) The only problem was that the woman behind the bar that day was very inattentive and we seemed like just another bunch of customers to her. Lackluster, with little conversation or regards to us as guests. I was saddened by this as Hiro is my go to spot for sushi. On a different visit, I was greeted by my bartender James. He was warm and inviting, greeted us with a smile. He asked questions and got to know us. It made us feel welcome. He even got me to try a new roll. (The Wasabi Stinger. It was amazing.) His service was top notch and his undeniable likeability transformed our brunch to a true experience. It was a refreshing contrast to my prior experience. I can't wait to come back to Hiro and try even more things on the menu. Keep up the good work! read more
