Gets busy on the weekends so expect a wait. This place offers Chiu Chow style dishes from soup noodle, to different canton specialty meats and rice dishes. Was really craving a good soup noodle so opted for the Chiu Chow Style Fish Balls with ho fun noodles (9.99). Very good overall. The broth is extremely rich and flavorful, without being overly salty. They load up the bowl with noodles and fish balls so quantity is great, as well as throwing in a few veggies to add some green. Lots of people were also getting takeout but I think feeling the rush of eating this style of food in the restaurant is a different thing! Will return.

We had a good meal here with a friend on our recent trip to Toronto. The place is bright and clean and service was good. We ordered several dishes to share and everything was good. Especially the Chiu Chow Marinated Duck, it was really tasty and juicy.

Came here on a Saturday right when it opens so get seated right away. Get busy pretty quickly. Didn't like that they use disposable plates and utensils. In terms of the food, maybe it's also not my type of food so I didn't quite enjoy it. 1. Ginger sugar smoky duck: the smoky flavor taste almost like burnt. The sweet taste comes from the sauce and it's not fully marinated into the meat. So u have to keep dipping the sauce to have the sweet taste, 2. Smoked port intestine with Swiss sauce (didn't eat but partner didn't enjoy it) 3. Spicy beef shank: not spicy, cold dish, and pretty hard, small portion 4. Pork stomach soup (didn't try) I probably wouldn't go again. If I do go maybe it'll try their noodles and rice instead.

Disposable cutlery, bowls, plates, and cups.

I remember when this place was Wonton Hut - the decor hasn't changed too much and is pretty much the same sort of vibes. Upon entering, it's quite spacious since their tables are mainly along the walls so the middle is left open for foot traffic. Upon being seated, we were immediately given brewed tea, plates, and cutlery. Interestingly enough, all these items were disposable. The only reusable dishware is what they use to serve their food (e.g. bowls for the soup noodles and plates for the rice and marinated dishes). I came around 5:45 pm and was the third table to dine-in, but throughout the duration of my meal (maybe 45 mins or so?), the place mostly filled up, with only about two tables left. There were a lot of people coming in and out for takeout as well. Overall, the place was pretty clean. But I feel like it was a mistake for them to keep both their doors open as there were some mosquitoes buzzing around - admittedly quite annoying to have to swat away bugs during a meal. We ordered the following: - D04 Pork and Shrimp Wonton with Chives Soup Noodles (with flat rice noodles, extra noodles for $1.99 which you can see the difference in my photos) - D06 Fish Meat Wrapped Dumplings Soup Noodles (with flat rice noodles) - B03 Pig Stomach I really enjoyed the flat rice noodles which were on the thicker side (to my liking) and very silky smooth. I appreciated that the noodles were nice and long too, as they did not break apart when handled. Though I'm not usually a fan of fish meat dumplings, I must admit these were quite good and my mom actually said, "out of all the ones I've tried in Toronto, this one has to be the best so far". I'd actually recommend them over their wontons, which have more pork than shrimp, hence not being the most tender. They were also smaller in size, compared to other restaurants I've been to (e.g. Wonton Trio). The broth itself was very clear, but not the most flavorful. Soup noodle also comes with a few choy, not much. I really enjoyed the pork stomach - flavorful and the perfect chew. It's a must to dip in the vinegar that comes with the dish as well, to help cut the fatty-ness. Service was relatively friendly. Nothing to rave about but no complaints. I've attached photos of the most updated menu. Side note, they do have highchairs for anyone coming with little ones!

Chiu Chow | Hong Kong | Wonton Lots of authentic flavourful Chiu Chow style marinated dishes such as beef offals, tripe, tendon, pork intestines and stomach etc. They also have some full duck and chickens to be offered. Could be purchased at half size as well. Most of their dishes could be served with rice or noodles. They also offer wonton noodles. One unique category that's rare amongst the town is the Chiu Chow style soup with fried seaweed. Lovely service from all the attentive ladies. They mainly use disposable dishware. Their chili oil is fragrant and authentic Chiu Chow style with fried shrimp and more.

    Beef tripe
    Philip L.

Tried their beef tripe and it's good. Both the taste and texture are above average. That particular dish was pretty flavorful. And that's it! Other than that, not a too special place in Markham. Unlike other reviews, I find this restaurant is not a very authentic chiu chow style place. Food served with paper plates, due to pandemic, maybe? It affects the overall visiting experience, particularly it's not a fancy decorated place to begin with. Price is okay and servers are nice. There are definitely other places I would recommend for real authentic chiu chow style cuisine.

    Winnie H.

First impression - cashier is very very polite. Food tastes homey. Nothing fancy but homey and clean. There is always secret special like buy one get one free dessert or order a special dish and free with a snack. I just try 1 dish for takeout. I take 1/2 star out as not much decor in the restaurant but posters are nicely taken.

Hing's Kitchen took over the location used to be Wonton Chi at Woodbine and Major MacKenzie. I had been here for take out and dine in during Covid 19 Pandemic. Both experiences were decent. I would recommend Fish skin dumplings and various Chiu Chow style marinated items. Price wise is fair. Service was fast. I was there when the restaurant was not busy. The only complaint is they are using takeout containers for dine in. (I understand we are still in a Pandemic but I just have enough of eating out from plastic containers!)

    Pickled Mustard green
    Michelle T.

Recommended by a friend who lives in Markham and said it's the best authentic food ever. We decided to go for their recommendations and had a smoke tea duck, pickled mustard green, intestines, tofu, soup, etc. the wonton is not the best in town but everything else was delicious. The pork intenstine was soy sauce based and delicious. If you're adventurous try the blood and intestine soup. Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for the Hong Kong soy sauces based food.

Came here for the wonton noodle soup. First time. Decent taste, tried the wonton noodle soup and dumpling noodle soup to try the difference. Beyond the wrap difference the dumpling version has a stronger chives flavor so if you like that then it is good. Portions were a bit on the small size compared to other wonton places. I liked their Chilli oil which seems to have dried shrimp flavor, quite flavorful but spicy too. Their hot sauce is also tasty, spicy and tangy sour but must be requested for separately. Not bad overall.

Intestine with rice, the other I'm to lazy to describe... LoL
    B H.

Food is good, but just HATE the paper plates it is served with! The soya sauce chicken is really tendered and tasty. The beef brisket is cooked perfectly, soft and flavorful. The duck isnot what I expected, not that the taste is off... It just that I'm pampered by 潮州馆 (Bayview Court) where the duck meat are thinly sliced. The intestine on rice is also really good. Just why paper plates?!? I hate eating off paper plates!!! Makes a good meal cheap. With a few more cents, at least go with plastic plates.

    William L.

Over all it's somewhere between a 3.5 and 4 for value and so I'll round up a tiny bit. The stressed naval end brisket was flavorful and tender. Loved it. But i felt like it should be 15-20% bigger to earn a 4 star rating or include rice or noodles. The other portions were about right for the price flavors were are expected... Good comfort food. But what really blew my mind was the chili oil. Omg. I thought I found the ultimate at a previous restaurant... So much so that we bought 3 hard of the stuff... But this place takes it to another level... It's like a mix of chili oil crisp and x.o. sauce. This is the best chili type oil I have ever had. But I know it not for everyone's palette and is more tuned HK palette. This chili oil will bring me back again and again.

Ox tail Noodle and Fish Ball + Fosh Skin Dumpling Noodle
    Ian C.

We mainly visited for the fishball noodle. The Service was the efficient style and very friendly. The place is also very busy. However, they serve all the food, even dine in, with plastic take out containers. As for the fishball, they tasted like fishball which you can purchase from supermarket. We understand that this is difficult to make in Canada, given so far away from the sea to have fresh ingredient. Also supply and demands might not make sense for restaurant to make good fishball, but tasty fishball exists, just not from this restaurant. The broth do resemble the transitional broth. Along with the noodle, so, the Fishball noodle is of traditional style, just the fishball being not as tasty. This is very unfortunately, as different restaurants have their advantages of this same dish. If we can really combine the best in one dish, we would have found what we wanted.

I looked at my Fantuan app and noticed He Bei Chinese Cuisine. It had dumplings and snacks that I enjoy, so I said yes to placing a dinner order from this eatery. I ordered these items: - Pork and chive steamed dumplings (large has 14 dumplings) - Tea eggs - Shredded potato salad On Fantuan, when you purchase $15 worth of food, you get the shredded potato salad for a cent. Deal! After placing my order near my home, I drove over to this eatery. The drive was ten minutes. I was given an estimated time of fifteen minutes. It was ready in ten minutes. I had no problem finding this eatery. There was plenty of parking. I pulled into a spot and walked in. I saw the Yubu sign. My heart sank, as I loved the Korean tofu pockets from this joint. She said thanks right back. I put my food in my insulated bag. With the leak, I managed to launder the Fantuan bag and clean my insulated bag. After I cleaned up, I had dinner at home. The food was amazing and filling! I loved the shredded potato salad. Sure, a lot of the sesame-soy sauce was gone. However, it tasted yummy. It was worth the cent! The steamed pork and chive dumplings were so good. I didn't dunk them in soy sauce. The filling had so much moisture that I felt like I was eating soup dumplings. The filling had yummy flavour and the dumplings were steamed to perfection. Excellent! You can buy frozen dumplings from this place. I'll need to do it. The tea eggs were the perfect snack while streaming hockey games. I peeled the shells off both of them. The eggs were cracked to allow the amazing soy-based sauce to marinate and get into the eggs. It's simply deceiving customers.

New Century will feed a large group. Their lobster, Dungeness crab, and sea bass combo for eight…read more($798) would satisfy ten or twelve. The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

If you break it down, it's actually such a good deal: the snakehead upgrade is usually +$3 each and their handcrafted drinks run around $6. No extra charge for any of that with this combo, so... why not? I got the scallion pickled cabbage fish soup (mild spice) and my friend went for the Laotan boiled fish (a bit spicier). For the snack, we picked half Taiwanese sausage and half glutinous rice cake to get both savoury and dessert vibes. When the bowls came out, they looked huge, but the portion was kinda deceiving... it's a very wide, shallow bowl, so the amount of actual soup wasn't as generous as it looked. For a fish soup restaurant, I definitely expected a deeper bowl. But the fish itself was fresh with that nice bouncy texture, plus vermicelli and a solid amount of pickled veggies. They also have a self-serve rice station with both white rice and multigrain rice. The rice cookers even have little signs showing when a new batch is cooking, which I thought was cute and convenient. Overall, flavour wise, it was solid and the promo made it worth the visit. But I am not sure if I'd come back again.

New sauerkraut fish soup spot in Markham…read more A chain from asia that has finally made it's way to Markham. They are known for their sauerkraut fish soup that comes with unlimited self serve rice on the side. Servers were attentive, spacing of the seating and tables were tight. Often times people kept brushing up against my chair while getting up to go get their rounds of rice. Although not a deal breaker, was annoying while trying to enjoy your food. The portions are big enough for 2 if you get a large, but since it was our first time we wanted to try 2 different soups. Here's what we got: Chicken wings 4/5 - Came out raw the first time after we bit into it. But quickly flagged a server to let them know how this issue. They brought us a new one shortly after that was perfectly cooked, juicy and crispy on the outside. Laotan boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chili 4/5 - Their number one classic so we had to try. It's sour and spicy with the right amount of kick to it. Basa fish filets were also tasty. Came out luke warm. Princess's tomato fish 4/5 - Packed with tomato flavour. Savoury and paired well with the basa fish filet. Came with bean curd noodles as well. Came out luke warm. Easily would be a five star review if both soups that we got came out piping hot rather than lukewarm. Regardless, a great spot for a quick in and out meal.

Wait list is old school...someone writes your name and number in a notebook and you are called when your table is ready. The interior is reminiscent of the old school taverns you see in those old Chinese movies where the traveller has spent days walking or on a horse and comes upon a tavern where the interior is all wooden tables and benches. Dining style and dishes are all family style. You order a couple of dishes and then add rice. Spice level can be adjusted and even at 'less' the heat level was high. Definitely generous use of Szechwan peppercorns! Food is very flavourful and depending on preference some might find the oil level high. The clientele is mainly Mandarin speaking and if you are Asian they will immediately communicate in Mandarin with you but I did see the staff switch to English where needed. Service was patient and attentive.
