As soon as the weather gets cooler and colder, I start to feel like warming up with a hot bowl of soup. Any bowl of soup will do! Deer Garden Signatures specializes in Malay Laksa Chicken Soup, Original Fish Soup, (Original Fish With Cabbage, Mushroom, Bean Curd Stick), Thai Tom Yum Goong Chicken Soup, thick rice noodles, flat rice noodles, udon noodles, instant noodles, egg noodles or thin vermicelli noodles. This visit we opted for a bowl of Chaozhou Style Dried Fish & Minced Pork Fish Soup. It was hot and delicious. But for the second bowl of soup we got a different broth to compare the two bowls, the Tomato & Pumpkin Fish Soup was magnificent. It had a slightly sweeter, subtle tomato taste which was a favourite pick. Both soups came with our choice of 2 included toppings and we picked fish tofu and fish for both soups. Try the XO sauce for an added kick. Add a side of popcorn chicken, or wings, and upgrade the drink. It's all delicious!
The build your own noodle combos are a staple, comes with a drink as well. Not too fond of picking noodles that expand, noodles tend to come out over cooked. Udon or the korean glass noodles are a good option
Solid noodle option in a great location. I've been going to Pacific Mall and the surrounding area for years but it was my first time at this location. I ordered the noodle combo - laksa base, fish balls and beef and thick rice noodle as options, and a hot milk tea. First off, portion size is huge. Even though we were hungry, we couldn't finish our bowls. For 2 people, next time I'd opt to share a bowl of noodles and maybe getting a side so we'd walk out full, not stuffed (had my eye on the popcorn chicken available cheaper with the combo +$5 than if ordered alone ~$10). Noodles and meats were great (felt fresh), but the star of the meal was definitely the laksa base. As I live in Missisauga, there aren't many options to get laksa - this laksa was full of flavour without being too heavy, so very palatable in the summer months. A good amount of spice that people who aren't good with spice can handle. There were many other unique base flavours like tom yum and peanut sauce that caught my eye, lots of noodle options, and many more intense protein options that my mom loved. I did find it a bit pricey at $15.75/combo, especially for the area where there's so many options around. For the portion size its decent, but it'd be nicer if they could reduce portion size and price - I don't imagine I'd be able to order a noodle combo if I were alone, unless I'd plan on taking 1/3 of it home. We didn't get a chance to try any other items as the noodle was more than enough, but there's always next time
Such a comfort food when you're craving for a hot noodle soup. Their laksa is really good although not authentic (I'm from south east asia). The taste is more mild, but sometimes that is just what I need. Service is really quick. I can be in and out within an hour. The restaurant is a little old but is still decently maintained. A little bit of a renovation wouldn't hurt though. Overall I recommend this place for a quick bite when you're craving for a noodle soup.
I went a different route and got their Hainanese chicken with rice instead of noodles. I thought it would be fine as it was recommended in their menu (I could not be more wrong). First off, instead of getting the traditional ginger and green onion sauce, they give you this green colour sauce which I can't explain what it is. The chicken itself was bland, had no taste. The same can be said with the rice. The saving grace are the sauces that gave the dish some flavour. For this specific dish, I give this a 2 star, but the friendly service bumps it to 3/5. I don't recommend this dish.
I came here for dinner. I ordered the combo. You have the option to choose your broth and type of noodles you want in your broth along with 2 toppings. It also comes with a drink hot or cold options available and depending on what you feel like there is an additional fee. The service was very fast. Most people that eat here are students. The place is very simply decorated, but very busy. Many students come here to eat by themselves while enjoying a bubble tea. There are rice options available as well.
Great place to have a customized bowl of noodles. Love their Malay laksa with Korean sweet potato noodles. Noodle combo includes a selection of hot drinks and others for an additional cost. There are also discounted snacks you can add to the noodle combo, such as popcorn chicken.
Deer garden has one of the most consistent Malay laksa noodle soups in the GTA. I always come back as I crave laksa very frequently. Deer garden has a large variety of combinations ranging from different soup bases (tomato and pumpkin, Tom yum gong, Szechuan spicy soup, etc), noodles (rice noodles, udon, egg noodles, etc), toppings (fish balls, beef tendon/tripe/slices, vegetables, etc) and drinks (hot/cold milk tea, lemon tea, etc). You'll definitely find a combination you'll gravitate towards and what you prefer! With the Malay laksa soup base, I opted for the thick rice noodle, fish fillet slices, and beef slices. The Malay laksa soup base is very fragrant, they don't have a very strong coconut milk flavour but the soup is spicy, creamy, with a hint of fish aroma that complements the flavour. I always ask for extra chilli oil on the side to mix into the soup as well, a must try! Unfortunately, the rice noodles this time were over cooked and made the experience less enjoyable. The cold HK milk tea is one of the best in the GTA with a strong tea flavour, being not too sweet and creamy, with a nice portion (note there is an additional charge for cold drinks as they give a larger cup!)
Got original fish soup with sliced beef, pork intestine & thick rice noodles. It also came with cabbage & mushroom. It was a huge bowl & tasted decent. Lucky noodle is a bit cheaper & better. A hot Hong Kong drink comes with the noodles. Hot honey lemon was decent.
decent service, good food, clean environment portion is huge!! I couldn't finish the whole bowl of noodles. I wish they give less noodles instead of increasing the price over the years. good experience. will come back when I starve next time
I really liked the style of the menu here where I can build my own soup. I really like peanut butter so I ordered the peanut sauce & chili soup base. When my soup arrived I was shocked at just how thick it was, and my partner had to give me some of her extra broth because I quickly ran out. This "soup" was very heavy and filling and I wish it had been thinner. I got the flat rice noodles and they broke a bit too easily so I think I'd get different noodles next time. I ordered the sliced beef but was a bit unimpressed with it since it was so different from how the sliced beef is at other soup restaurants. The seasoned pork mushroom balls were pretty interesting and unique! My partner ordered the malay laksa soup and it was much thinner than my soup. The broth was very tasty and it looked a lot more like actual soup. The udon noodles were excellent and didn't break apart at all. She got the sliced beef brisket and it was a lot better than the sliced beef I ordered. The moral of the story is I should have just ordered what she had! Since we got the combo we also got to pick a drink with it. We got the milk tea and it was really good, we wished we had ordered another one to bring home with us! I'd like to come here again but I'd definitely order something different.
They follow all public health guidelines (Socially distanced tables, check for proof of vaccination, etc.) Price has gone up to $14.25. Staff is attentive and friendly. Portion size is still big. Call to preorder, food is usually ready within 10min.
This place does the job if you're feeling noodles. With the ability to customize your bowl for a set price of $11.50 (assuming you don't want extras/add ons), i'd say it's pretty satisfying. There are order sheets already provided on the tables when you're seated. From a decent variety list, you can choose your soup base, type of noodle, 2 toppings, and make it a drink combo for a small additional price depending on what you want. The noodle bowls come with mushrooms, lettuce, onions & cilantro, which you are able to mark off if you don't want. They have small side dishes available to order too. This restaurant is always busy. Unless you come at an awkward time like 4pm I think you can always expect a wait. Yesterday I arrived at 2:30 on a Sunday and it was pretty hectic. The staff wouldn't give out booths if you had just 2 people. Which is fair to some extent but there was an empty booth chilling there for like 20 minutes while everyone else in pairs waited at the door... I didn't appreciate that. The hostess asked when I first walked in if I wanted to share seating, as she was going to stick me in a booth with another pair (no thanks). Anyways, I had to end up settling and sharing a rectangular table with another pair which is always a bit awkward. Despite this, the service is pretty efficient, as workers circulate the restaurant often so you can get their attention easily by flagging them down (with every Asian restaurant you have to be a bit more aggressive). The wait for a table and way they handle the crowd in the way they think is most efficient is a bit of a turn off. But for the convenience in location for customizable noodles it's a trade off I'll probably be willing to take once in a while.

Was craving a hearty soup and deer garden had just what we wanted. Here's what we ordered: * Soup 1: Dried fish minced pork fish soup with beef tendon, fish fillet, and king oyster mushroom. * Soup 2: * Teriyaki Chicken side dish The portions are quite big, I can never finish all the noodles. They are generous with the toppings as well. Everything was delicious. Service is fairly quick. Right now they're doing a promotion for $18.50 you get a 3rd topping. All meals come with a drink, we both got HK milk teas. We found the hot one to be a little superior to the iced. There's also 10% off discount if you pay with cash. There's lots of seatings inside, great for groups of 1-6. There's free parking in the plaza. 20260621 read more
I knew this place before Covid, but after I hadn't been there for a while. I got to this place again because they have new promotions, like special for $9.99 for whole day long+$50% off the regular drink price. We took a try for the specials on the weekend lunch time. It was not a busy lunch time, we got our table fast and they reminded us special only for cash only. We took the Pork Cutlet and Chicken Cutlet Rice as well. I love the Red Bean drink with Ice Cream (Reg. Price $6.99 & Half Price $3.99) as well. The drink came first, my kid loved the Ice Cream and I loved the sweet red bean. The cutlets came later and Chicken was the grilled one, and Pork was deep fried. I like the grilled chicken more. And there was a little bit pieces of corns and peas. It's a lot of rice at the bottom. Seems like $9.99 paying for the piece of meat. And we asked the egg to be well done, but not well done yet. We didn't bother to take them back to cook again. We may or may not go back, or even though going back, we would try the fish soup base noodles instead, because they are doing extra one topping when ordering 2 toppings noodle soup. I tried that before, it was great! Now 3 toppings as same price as 2. read more
I've been coming to this location for probably a decade now, and the word I would use to describe Deer Garden is consistency. They are reasonably priced, the food is decent, and I know that I will always leave full. And that is why I have eaten probably 30+ bowls of noodles here in my lifetime. The different soup bases come with some standard toppings that aren't listed in the descriptions, so you will always get more than the 2 you select. The sliced beef is a staple and they give a lot of beef, but be warned that it is pretty chewy and it is not sliced against the grain (adding to the chewiness). The furniture is well maintained for how hold it is and the staff dies their best to keep things clean. The staff isn't the most friendly, but they are efficient which is on par similar restaurants. read more

I came here with my friends and ordered the pan fried pork chop on rice. I realize that most people come to deer garden for noodles not rice, but I was really in the mood for rice at the time. The food was decent, but a bit plain. I think I may more used to japanese or korean style pork cutlets over rice, so thats why this dish was underwhelming to me. It was pretty salty, but that's to be expected at a canto/hk restaurant. We also ordered a side of red sausage which was good. The sausage came in big pieces and was cooked pretty nicely. Our meals came with a choice of milk tea or lemon tea, we opted for the milk tea. It was traditional hk milk tea with a very strong tea flavour, we added a LOT of sugar to make it easier to drink lol read more

Great value for the money. $12 gets you a drink and a big bowl of noodles with lots of choices for soup bases, toppings, and noodle varieties. My go-to soup base is the Malay laksa but the Tom yum and chauchou fish are great too. I've tried the Szechuan once but wasn't a fan, it was just too salty and mouth numbing for me. For toppings I usually stick with beef tendon balls and brisket but the fish fillet and sliced cuttlefish are good options as well. I definitely recommend getting the chili oil, it adds not only a spicy kick but umami flavor as well! Quality is always consistent here and so this place makes for a solid meal whenever I'm craving noodles. read more

Create your own noodle soup; it's the perfect spot for picky eaters. The combo comes with your choice of a soup base, noodles, two free toppings (additional toppings are $1.95 each), and a hot drink (cold drinks, specialty drinks, and add-ons cost extra). Green onions, parsley, cabbage, mushrooms, and beancurd sticks are automatically included so make sure to mark it off on your order sheet if you don't like them. I ordered the Malay Laksa soup with pork stomach and cuttlefish as well as an iced milk tea + coffee with tapioca. The Malay Laksa was spicy, creamy, and flavorful. Chunks of tender cuttlefish slices complimented the Laksa. Pork stomach is a rare ingredient for any store to offer so I was surprised to see it on the menu. It was cleaned well, didn't smell or taste pungent, and was one of my favorite parts of the meal. The fish soup base had a pronounced depth to it that was healthy and clean but may come off as tasting bland. Milk tea and coffee is a combination I'm not sure if I like or dislike. Putting that aside, I definitely liked how caffeinated it was. It wasn't diluted even after all the ice melted. The boba was soft, chewy, and cooked better than most bubble tea shops. For those who don't eat a lot, you may struggle with finishing a bowl by yourself as portions are large. For those who do eat a lot, you may want to add extra toppings and/or extra noodles. Service is standard. Our noodle soups and drinks were quick to come out but no one checked up on us during our meal. While there is a parking lot, it's usually full so finding a spot may take some time. read more

Tonight I'm having dinner with a good friend. Both of us agreed to noodle soup even though this restaurant's weekday special for Wednesday is Teriyaki Chicken on Rice for $8.99. We were quickly seated for our 6 p.m. meal and served hot tea. After browsing the menu for appetizers, we each completed an order sheet for the $11.99 Noodle Combo. Just check off the boxes based on your preferences as instructed but be careful as there are extra charges for requesting a chicken soup base, more than 2 toppings, more than one noodle type, and a cold or specialty drink. I chose the No MSG Parsley & Century Egg Fish Soup base with sliced beef brisket plus fish fillet, U-don noodles, and a hot almond milk as my drink for 11.99. Add to this 2 side orders at $2.95 each; one deep fried fish fillet, one pan fried beef tongue. Service was friendly and relatively quick which gave us time to talk. All in all, a tasty & flavourful dinner for my second time here! read more

Deer Garden is known for their massive bowl of highly customizable noodles in their signature fish broth. It's a bit of a hard decision considering all the different broth types, toppings, and noodles they have, but overall quality is pretty decent here and if you're craving a massive bowl of noodles, then this is the place you should come to. We came here for lunch and the place was packed even though it was a bit later in the afternoon. The lunch specials come with a drink and we went with the hot HK milk tea. We were also told we would get an additional topping as a promotion but instead got a whole bunch of extra toppings (which is a good and bad thing because while I didn't get what I ordered, there was extras free of charge. However, it did change the flavor profile a little bit too). We went with the tomato pumpkin broth and the laksa broth options. Right off the bat, there's definitely quite a bit of toppings we checked and ordered for. Namely, beef, fish and other proteins. They don't skimp on that here. The broth was excellent here, the laksa was very rich and flavorful. The tomato pumpkin tasted exactly as you would imagine it being. Lightly acidic with sweet starchiness from the pumpkin. It was interesting, but I would go with another broth next time. Topping wise, as I mentioned, we checked off three boxes, but saw what could be up to 6 different toppings I noticed from the list. Not sure if they were generous or trying to get rid of ingredients here but from how they tasted, they were okay! read more

Disgusting... flies were swimming around in this (wish I could post the video). Please vote: should this meal be free or should I get $1.20 off? Spoiler alert: they gave $1.20 off Basically a regular here because it tastes so good, but the cleanliness and service were subpar to say things nicely... read more

You want Chinese soup based Noodle, this is the place to be. Their soup base is VERY good and use good quality ingredients. Don't overlook their non-soup based item, though, they are good, too. I didn't feel like going for soup today, so I ordered their rice. Their portion is just as generous, and taste is above average. As for service, don't expect VIP service because that's not what they are selling. Now, I'm not saying they are rude or anything like that, but just a little more "rough". read more
Went to this place for dinner. Order the noodle combo with drink for $11.50. The concept of noodles where you get to pick the style of soup broth toppings and noodle style is very interesting. Portions were moderate and service was okay. It was quite busy in the restaurant. Decor was very nice and modern. The bathroom on the other hand is a different story. We ordered multiple types of soup based broth with toppings. I wasn't quite a fan of the peanut based soup. And I kind of got sick of it halfway through the meal. You also paid $1.95 extra for more toppings if desired. They also sell side dishes like fries and rice with eel if you aren't a fan of noodles. Wouldn't really come back. But thanks for trying. read more

This is the newest location of Deer Garden, a Hong Kong Style Cafe franchise from Vancouver specialize in Fish Soup, just opens up in Scarborough. You pick the combination ($8.75) Soup base Noodle Toppings (first 2 are included and any extra is $1.50 each) Choice of drink The broth always serves burning hot, so be really careful. I always order the fish broth base but there are also chicken based or even spicy one you can choose from. Make sure to ask for the house made xo hot sauce. There are also set set which are not soup noodle to choose one. A great place to come with picky eaters as they can customize their own meal. Cash Only. I though got really thirsty after eating here. I really doubt their claim of no MSG. read more

My friends made reservation as this place can get quite busy. As this was my first time at Deer Garden, the first thing I noticed was this place is a bit stuffy. Maybe just the fact there are too much steam from the soup. Anyhow, I ordered the noodle bowl and it came out about 15 mins after. I tasted my soup and that didn't disappoint one bit. I finished my bowl of noodle and soup and I wasn't too thrilled at all. It's not bad? But it ain't like a home run in terms of cooking quality. Anyway, I may give this place another try. read more
I was surprised that for a weekday night around 7:30pm, Deer Garden was full! Luckily, we didn't wait for a long time before we were seated. On one of the sets of seats, it's a little narrow, but they have a cute little basket on top of the row of cubbies for you to place your belongings. Service is pretty fast - we were able to order our meal quite quickly, receive our food rather quick and get the bill fast too. We ordered one of their noodle bowls and I got the unagi on rice. The noodle bowls costed $11.50 and the unagi on rice was around $12.50, a drink of $1.99 value was included and if you wanted to upgrade your drink, you could just add a bit more money. Their portions are quite large in my opinion, I thought the unagi on rice was pretty worth it because the unagi was quite large (took up about 1/3rd of the bowl). The taste was okay, but the portion was pretty large that I only was able to finish about half of this. read more

One of my favourite spots to eat in the winter when it's cold out and you just need something to warm you up. I've never not ordered off of the customizable soup menu. People I've gone with have and it's ok, but the big ol' bowl-o-soup is what makes me go back to this place time and time again. At the table, there is a little form you fill out with what options you want (picture attached). You choose a soup base, a noodle, then two toppings. I always get the laksa base, egg noodles, and double brisket (another picture). You can also add a cold or hot drink for a discounted price than the regular menu cost. Their cold milk tea is surprisingly good. I've actually stopped by for just that on the go previously. All in all, it's cheap, you'll be stuffed, and it's delicious. If you're someone who needs to be waited upon and coddled through your meal, you should avoid this place. Their service is efficient as hell, which I love, but expecting anything more than that would be foolish on your part. The only thing warm in this establishment are the bowls of that sweet, sweet, soup. They're all about turnover, which you tolerate for how good the food is. Anyways, highly recommend as the weather cools. You won't regret it. read more

This is my first visit after the reopening. The prices are noticable increased. A few more side order items are added. Ordered deep fried pork chops, popcorn chicken and my usual rice noodles with pork stomach and fresh fish fillet in the original fish soup. The pork chops were a little overcooked, the popcorn chicken were perfectly done, crispy and tasty. The fish broth tasted fishy, indicating a quality issue in ingredient selection. I am sorry I have to take a star off. read more
This place is my favourite place so far in Toronto for fish noodle soup!! I chose this place for my Thanksgiving Dinner Party based on the referral of two close friends and this place did not disappoint!! I booked a table well in advance and fortunately so, the place was full by the time we sat down and pretty much for the remainder of our dinner. It is quite spacious and the white tables and white ceiling decor made the restaurant appear even bigger than it already is. They have 3 menus to order from, their main noodle soup combo menu, rice set menu and lastly their drinks menu. They are known for their fish noodle soup combo. They have 10-12 soup base, half of them included or focused around fish. The base price of their combos start at $11.50. I chose the tomato and pumpkin fish soup with sweet potato crystal noodles and it was simply divine! I could taste the subtlety of tomato, pumpkin and fish in the broth. It comes with cabbages and two free add-ons. Out of 20 options, i chose fish fillet and king oyster mushroom! Additional add-ons cost $1.95 each. Let me tell you that they are very generous with the quantity or serving of their food!! I had more than 12 or 15 slices of fish filets and plenty of mushrooms, cabbages and tomatoes!! They were 7 types of noodles to choose from: ramen, udon, the one I chose, instant noodle, rice noodle, egg noodle, and ho fun. A hot drink is included along with the combo and it is shown in pink as free on their drinks menu. Cold drinks are all $1 extra minimum. Bubble teas were available. I chose the free hot almond milk and my bill only came to $13.00 after tax!! Such a great deal, because the portions were quite huge! It all came in one standard size, but half of my guests including myself, had leftovers to take home. The soup was so delicious that we did not want to waste it. They served us rather fast and everyone got their order exactly as written down. I am so glad that I chose this place! All of my 7 other guests enjoyed this place and we totally lost track of time enjoying our food here. The only reason why this place is not getting a full 5 stars from me is because they specialize a bit too much on fish noodle soup alone and I heard that their snacks and rice sets were just average or so-so. Hence, I would mostly only come back if I am craving for a fish noodle soup combo, but with such a reasonable price, great portion and great taste, I would definitely recommend this place to others. Another successful dinner party hosted by yours truly! I cannot wait to host my next one already. I am so happy that my group of friends all trust my taste in food and would let me choose the restaurants and itinerary for parties!! read more
Good, consistent food at a decent price. I'm a fan of the healthier choices (# beside soups with no MSG), but occasionally venture over to the other side of the menu for a soup with more flavour. The orders always come out quickly. The restaurant can be quite loud with children, large groups and servers balancing large trays trying to get past. But the dining area is clean and atmosphere warm. A nice place to take your family for lunch on the weekend. read more
