We decided on eating here because there was a long wait for the restaurant at the corner. There were not a lot of other diners present at Deer Garden when we went in for dinner on a Wednesday evening at around 8:20. It was just us and 2 other tables. We were told by the server that the last call to order was at 8:30 PM. We ordered the Laksa seafood noodle in chicken broth and the Hainanese chicken rice noodle in chicken broth. Both were good but I have had better experiences elsewhere. I do not know of a lot of places in Toronto serving Laksa so this was an OK experience to be able to have it again. The Laksa's broth could be thicker and creamier. I would also wanted it to have more of the coconut taste, but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt that it may be a regional variant of the dish. At least it has lot of variety in its toppings. The other dish we tried was the Hainanese chicken noodle soup. We had it in this configuration for a change. I must say that Hainanese chicken is better paired with rice. There are 2 dips that came with it. The ginger dip was a little lacking. I find it lacking flavour and fails to properly enhance the taste of the Hainanese chicken. The chicken broth also came off a little too salty on first taste. What was redeeming was that dish orders came with a free choice of beverage. We paired our orders with Almond milk & Chocolate milk. Both dishes's serving size were also huge. We had to take them both to-go. Right after we were served our orders the waitress came by us and subtly implied that we already pay for the food because they were already closing shop soon. I was surprised by this because I am always used to paying at the end and have always understood this to be the expectation. Came to Deer Garden for an "afternoon tea" on a weekend. Since it was on the weekend, there were no special combos on discount. I ordered the corn beef with egg sandwich combo (approx $9) and my husband got the satay beef vermicelli combo (approx $15). We both got hot milk tea with extra milk. The server was very nice and ask if I would like my bread toasted - just like in HK. And just like in HK, the sandwich was served crustless. The bread was light toasted, the scrambled egg was piping hot. Personal preference, I do wish they put more corned beef in it. Double check the amount on the machine when you pay! They added 20% tip when they handed over the machine and it never asked me how much I wanted to tip!!! One of four locations in Toronto, this is the first Deer Garden I've been to. I came at opening hours on a snowy Sunday. Lots of parking available in this plaza. It was very empty. The space was clean and bright. Service was great! Our table of 3 shared: 2 soup noodle combos - one with laksa broth (tasty and spicy) and the other with tomato pumpkin broth (very good also! Highly recommend if you're looking for a non-spicy option). Would love to come back to try the other broths! First time trying Deer Garden at this location. We came as a party of 6, with orders efficiently split 3 ways. Pay by debit at the register. We were seated promptly and given small bowls and plastic utensils for the kids. Service is typical for Asian restaurants, they only came when we flagged them down, but they were friendly when we were being helped. I got the Fish Soup noodle soup which comes with a small assortment of veggies (nappa, bean curd sticks, mushroom slices), choice of 2 toppings, and a drink. I picked fish tofu, fish fillet, and added bok choy for more veg. I also got a side of popcorn chicken. For drink, I upgraded to lychee ice. My partner got a noodle bowl with pork chop (not pictured) and a hot coffee. We also got a chocolate milk for our daughter. Ordering was seamless, the staff was fluent in Cantonese (and also Mandarin for other customers) and English. Bill splitting was also done very efficiently, each group order at our table labeled A, B, C. Fish broth was a bit salty for me and I couldn't finish it. And I've found the perfect place for 米線！Though their fish soup base was disappointing (flavourless), the spicy soup base was savoury and flavourful, it's even better than some rice noodles I ate in Hong Kong! They messed up our order every time, gave us wrong items, forgot one of the orders especially if you are not ordering the noodles. I am not sure why the staff didn't write down those order (rice, sandwich) and always missed them. Deer garden is a small chain and this location is definitely my favourite (least fave is the Scarborough location, their broth is weak). I usually get their fish soup noodles but their curry is also really delicious and flavourful. I get either their Tom yum or laksa soup base, but their tomato and pumpkin soup base is amazing as well. You can pick two toppings from a wide variety and add more for a price. Make sure to also ask for their chili oil! I'm told the other soups are pretty good too. Price used to be better, but at the moment I still think it's worth it. Service is hit or miss. A new Deer Garden Signatures has opened and I couldn't be happier for this 4th GTA location! This is a high traffic place so I hope business goes well for them. I like the reno, it reminds me of a Hong Kong canteen. Their signature checklist noodles start at $11.50. What can I say.. their food and service are consistent with their other locations so it's nice to have that trust here. The idea here is build-your-own bowl: they have a checklist for broth, ingredients & noodles customization; I call them "check mark noodles" lol. I rarely pass up a chance to eat at Deer Garden for their noodle + drink combo b/c they're delivered fast & straightforward. I usually like to order peanut soup broth + egg noodles + milk tea! I think it's unique in the entire GTA. Off their cheap menu (you get a couple to choose from) a bowl of red braised ribs and a HK tea for under $10 is a pretty good deal these days. If you want a custom bowl of noodles, you'll have fill out the request slip on the table and check off what you want. Standard mid-low end Chinese restaurant service. We'll take your order, we'll bring you your food, but don't expect me to smile about it or ask you how your day is! But they also start their tipping options on their machines at 10%. This is a chain restaurant with four locations and I've been to three locations in the past. The Vaughan and North York location are much less busier than the Scarborough location (long lineup) but with equally good quality of food. They are famous for the fish noodle soup. A tip is to get the Chaozhou style soup base, don't get the original flavour which is so plain. They claim not to use MSG for the fish broth. You can always choose two side dishes at a cheap price when you order it with the noodle soup as a combo. My favourite side dishes include the Harbin sausage, deep fried chicken wings (crispy outside and flavourful inside, best deep fried chicken wings I've ever had in town) and deep fried fish fillet. Usually we go to the one at Highway 7 & Leslie. First off, the interior is clean and new- very good first impression. However 7pm on a weekday and it was almost empty! Usually the highway 7 location is packed by now. We kept our hopes up anyway. We ordered our usual soup combo and found that the noodles were WAY over cooked (like, zero texture), the toppings were over cooked and the soup was watered down. You get up to 2 toppings for the $11.50 and you pay extra for more. They have sides you can order with every noodle for about $3. I recommend the chicken steak one. They also have some other food items but if you come here, it's more or less for the noodles. Taste wise, this Deer Garden compares well to the other locations. The big difference for me was the amount of the portions you get with the toppings. I always get the beef brisket topping when I come to Deer Garden. At this location, they give you A LOT of the toppings you ask for. I would guess it was almost twice as much as I'm used to going to the other locations. I'm a big eater so this is definitely a good thing. The only gripe I had was that this location takes a bit longer than usual to bring out the food. Usually, Deer Garden's a very quick to bring out your order. You'll order and within 5 minutes you'll be receiving your noodles. It was almost about 15 minutes before we received ours here. The place wasn't too busy too. I will chalk it up to the place being relatively new and they're just working out the kinks. I will definitely be back in the future to see if this improves. All in all, if you're a fan on Deer Garden, having another location open up in North York is a good thing. Any fan of noodle soup in general should also give it a try. read more

Great noodle in soup restaurant. Portions are large enough to fill me up without the feeling of overpaying. Hot HK milk tea comes with the meal which is a nice touch - staying true to a traditional "fast food" Chinese restaurant. What's also nice is you can add a side dish at a discounted price. Though I'm sure the portions are much less than an outright order but again, this is a nice touch. The soup bases are good, but it can leave you with a bit of a thirst for the next couple of hours. This place is known for fish soup with rice noodles, you choose your soup, toppings, noodles and they put it together for you. My go to is the original fish soup with vermicelli, and I add in fish fillet and yu choy. Their original fish soup is really creamy, no msg added, so you can finish the whole bowl of soup without feeling that thirst. The rice noodles they offer are all chewy and not over cooked, the way I like them. The combo of one bowl of noodles and two toppings comes with a free hot beverage, if you choose to make it cold, it's a $1 extra. A lot of people also make it into a bubble tea which is a few dollars more but my go to is cold lemon tea or the milk tea. Their laksa soup is really good too, it's creamy and flavourful. It's definitely another popular option for soup but just a heads up this soup contains msg. If you're not a noodle soup person, they also serve rice as well, so don't worry you have a few selections to choose from. If you like chili oil, they have a spicy xo sauce you can ask for on the side, it's definitely worth trying.
