Himiko vegetable items are fresh with good flavor. However, their teriyaki chicken had a diluted flavor and watery sauce. Wait staff were slow to attend - I'd see them gather chatting on other side of the dining area, masks off, while I waited to order or for a refill on a long-empty water glass. I don't eat sushi, so perhaps that justifies local popularity of Himiko. In spite of high points in their vegetable offerings, I can't see returning to try again. read more

It used to be great with great service and more quality fish starving portions. Now you can have 10 employees ignore you as you come in. Wait for 10 after seating yourself and get water. This is just Kabuki sushi relocated and rebranded. I came to see if anything had improved but the rolls are all the same. In fact none of the sushi menu has changed at all. But at least they keep them clean now! The rolls I had for the AYCE were just ok. The chefs special was definitely the star of my meal. I think maybe the owners need to let their chefs change up the menu. Seriously the roll I had was beyond anything else I tried. Let your sushi chefs handle the sushi menu! Other than that our waiter was cool and a lot more attentive than during the Kabuki days. read more

Worst experience at a sushi restaurant. Service was slow and they didn't clean our dishes as we finished the food. The sushi chef we had was kind of rude. I think she was overwhelmed. We literally had plates and bowls everywhere in front of us, but they were quick to clean and sprayed glass cleaner next to me when the customer sitting next to me at the sushi bar left. We had a manager come out and tell us he was gonna charge us extra for not eating the rice off our nigiri. The rice fell off of one of my nigiri and the sushi chef said something when that happened but I couldn't understand her so I guess it was a big deal. I told him just to charge us for alacarte because we didn't order as much as all-you-can-eat charge anyways. Very embarrassing and awkward, never had that happened and they didn't know how to give us the free drink after we checked-in on Yelp. They said they've never had anyone try to use the Yelp check-in promotion before. So we were in town on business from Las Vegas, and came across this gem! Our server was Freddy and he was absolutely amazing! I ordered something from there menu that wasn't available at the time and ended up with something custom from the Chef! Delicious to say at the least!!! Dinner last night was very disappointing. The service was poor. With the exception of the hostess that sat us. She was very attentive and checked on us. It took awhile to even get a beer. I went here last night for dinner with my family. The service we recieved was substandard, and the quality of our food when it finally arrived was beyond appalling. We arrived and were waiting for staff to greet us until a second family came in behind us. When staff served us drinks, the server spilled water over the empty space at the table, over the straws and fled with out a word. I was not aware we were that terrifying. We placed an order for food, yakisoba, nagiri, and rolls. Time passed. I watched the family that came in behind us devouring rolls as I ate pickled ginger because I was that hungry. We were sitting in the middle of the floor, and not one server came to check. at the thirty minute mark I looked to my brother and stated that we hadn't been fed and people that came in after us had been fed. He managed to snag a server and lo. five minutes later the manager brought him his Yakisoba. Warm in the middle but cold on the outside. Fantastic. He'd eaten half of his food by the time the rolls and nagiri came out. This is the part where I elaborate. Himiko used to be Kabuki sushi. They were located over by the Raley's. All of Himiko's menu was imported over from Kabuki. Including what I ordered, which is the Godzilla roll. This roll is my favorite, and is full of tasty things, then tempura battered with a drizzle of sauces, green onions and other toppings. What I got was to be blunt, a godzilla roll made by a home chef who rushed. I was so happy to finally get my food that I ignored the lack of topping and sad thin tempura coating. I grabbed a peice and took a bite and I nearly spat it out in disgust. I was served a wad of rice wrapped in seaweed coated in see through tempura, with no green onions and a rush job of sauces. By contrast, my sister ordered an OMG Roll which was massive, and sloppy. I started to pull apart my roll, the next peice was solid rice on one side and then a start of a filling. going through the entire roll we managed to find two lone peices with visible fish in them. it is a bad sign to have a tiny kids meal roll next to a standard sushi roll. The Nagiri we ordered was wonderful by a stark contrast. I was absolutely livid by this point. I got up and went to the hostess and asked to see the manager. Who had to wave a straw at us, because she had to deliver that to another table before coming to us. Spoke to her, and explained the situation and she whisked the plate away to go talk to the chef. And then came back to say she could get us another roll but only give us 10% off. Oh no. I am not waiting another fifteen minutes for my meal. I refused. At this point I was furious, insulted, and hungry. We paid for the food we did get, we did not get to finish off the OMG roll on the platter with the sad excuse for a rush job of sushi. I am disgusted with the lack of quality and lack of service. I will not be back, and if it was possible to give a 0 star rating I would. read more

Sushi in the middle of the desert! Was mildly appetizing. Fish was mostly fresh and tasty except the Tobiko (fish eggs), definitely had an off taste. My favorite non fish sushi was the sweetheart roll with no cream cheese, something I have craved since. Other than that everything was mostly palatable. I've dined here more times than I can count and even frequented it when it was Kabuki across town. I'm definitely no sushi expert, but I've tried the cuisine in many places all over the USA and in some foreign countries. I willingly say that Himiko is in my top three sushi restaurants I've been to! The atmosphere is quaint, the staff very friendly. This restaurant usually fills up pretty fast for dinner, so you may have to wait a bit. Anytime I'm in Elko, a trip to Himiko is in order! read more

But this is not uncommon in Elko, where it seems impossible to have dinner in under 90 minutes. Food: Himiko is a nice break from the other gut-busting options in Elko. Expect high variability in the food: I order essentially the same dishes every time... and they are always different in presentation, quantity, and ingredients. However, it is always tasty and fresh. Atmosphere: I really appreciate the care they have put into the space and decor, it's certainly as hip as it gets in Elko. It always feels quite lively inside, so it's a nice setup for dinner. I made a reservation for my wife's and mine anniversary, and we showed up and waited 15 minutes to be seated because they never had our table ready, then of course our service was horrible, they acted like deers in headlights. Went with a friend to grab a "quick" bite Friday night. After we were seated our drink order was placed by the hostess. This was probably the only thing that even resembled service the entire time we were there. Our server was also the bar tender that night. After we placed our initial order she didn't even acknowledge our existence for the next two hours. We finally had to go find another server to figure out what was going on with our order. My friend just got done working a 12 hour shift, and the last thing she wanted to do was wait over two hours for two pieces of sushi. After our server finally returned, my friend told her she didn't want the all you can eat anymore, and she would only be paying for what she was served. Our server didn't seem too happy with this request. While we waited for our check to be sorted out we ran into a mutual friend. while engaged in conversation with them our waitress returned and made the comment "I thought you guys were in a big hurry", really? I go to this place at least once a week, and i usually get decent service. Unfortunately, this has not been the case the past few times I've been seated in the bar area . The rest of the place was packed, and she literally had 12 people, 6 couples to look after. Everyone around us were making the same comments about the service. After that ridiculous wait, and the insulting comment by our server, I'll be spending my hard earned money elsewhere in the future!!! read more

We made a reservation for a party of 4 at 7 o'clock. When we arrived they were packed, which we understood it was a possibility we would not be seated right away. However, when we gave our name and explained we had a reservation we were informed it did not matter and were put at the bottom of the list. We were also informed they would get to us when it was our turn. Well thankfully the manager or owner, not quite sure who he was, overheard the interaction and tried to remedy the situation. He compensated us by giving us a gift card and sat us as soon as a table was available. That in our book was great customer service and definitely made our opinion of the place increase. Sadly, it went downhill again from there. Our group ordered the monkey knuckle, kani sushi rolls, gyoza, 12oz steak with a salad and cerviche, a beer, and one cocktail. It took 40 mins to get our food, which when we first sat down it was busy, so understandable. However, after about 20 mins of sitting there over half of the restaurant had cleared out. Our waitress barely came by to see if we needed any refills on waters or other drinks while waiting for our food. The beer that was brought out had to be returned as the glass had a nasty crusty piece of food stuck to the lip of it! When mentioned to the waitress, she laughed and said it was up to the bar staff to watch for these things. When we asked to exchange it for another, she informed us we had to take it to the bar. Ummmm, no! You are our waitress, that is your responsibility, not your customers! So after insisting and much eye rolling from her, she finally accommodated us and exchanged the beer. The only other time we saw her was when she brought out our order, our check, and a container for leftovers. Never once checked on us to see if we needed anything else or if our food was as expected. We did have a young man stop by our table who checked if we needed anything, but he ended up creeping us all out. He literally stood at the edge of our table, did not say anything for over a minute, just stared at us all. When I finally asked him if there was something HE needed, he spoke up and asked if we needed anything. None of us were talking at the time as we were either eating or watching the football game, so it was not due to him trying to not interrupt our conversation. It was just extremely weird and uncomfortable for all of us. As for the food quality and what we thought. We highly recommend the monkey knuckle as it was AMAZING! The kani was good. The gyoza was extremely overcooked, dry, and cold when our waitress finally brought it out. Could only eat 2 of the 6 in the order as it was THAT bad! The steak was decent, however our waitress didn't even bring it until 15 minutes AFTER we all had finished eating everything else we had ordered. She also informed us, 10 minutes after the steak was brought out, that they could not find the cerviche. This was over an hour after we had ordered! I gave a 3 star strictly for the purpose of the manager trying to remedy the situation in the beginning, the ambiance was great despite it being very crowded, and most of the food was good. If it wasn't for the issues with dish cleanliness, gyoza being overcooked, and the absolute horrible wait staff it would have been higher. If they were to obtain waitstaff with better training and actually cared about their customers I feel not only would it give the customers a more enjoyable experience, but a much smoother service. A smoother service means not only better reviews, but a better profit as food does not get returned, and customers come and go much faster. read more

Fantastic sushi. Staff timing was great. Some of the other reviews make them seem like they are too slow, that's just not the case. Give you time to enjoy your meal and company while still making sure your drinks and all you can eat sushi keeps coming. $31 for all you can eat dinner is underpriced. All around great! read more

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Elko, Nevada, its great and all the rolls taste very fresh and they are plated great. But my only complaint is that the soup was cold but otherwise it was great. It's very clean and modern and very good service. But I wish they would add bento boxes to the menu.
