Chef Cheng's Chinese Restaurant is a hidden gem in Elko! If you're craving authentic Chinese flavors with generous portions, this is the spot. The menu is packed with classic like Hot & Sour Soup, Sweet and Sour Pork, Mongolian Beef, and the crowd favorite Honey Walnut Shrimp. Everything tastes fresh and comes out quickly, which is perfect if you're on a lunch break or just hungry after a long day. The atmosphere is cozy and casual, though the décor could use a little refresh. But honestly, the food makes up for it. Service is friendly and efficient, and prices are very reasonable for the portion sizes (you'll likely have leftovers!). Pro tip: Try the House Special Fried Rice or Cheng's Spicy Chicken. Both are packed with flavor. Parking can be a bit tight, but there's extra space behind the building near the hotel. Overall, Chef Cheng's is a solid choice for Chinese comfort food in Elko. Great for families, takeout, or anyone who loves hearty, flavorful dishes. read more

Still our favorite place to eat when we come to Elko. It's not much to look at, but the service is excellent and the food much better than you'd expect in a place this far from a major city. They have been happy to veganize just about anything we've asked them to, and it's always been delicious. read more

Great dinner here! Glad they are OPEN on Sundays. Hot tea, steamed white rice, Hunan Beef $17.95 and steamed mixed vegetables (small) 6.95 - a tasty simple dinner. We relaxed and revived with this good meal. Happy Fortune Cookies finished off our meal. Perfect place for meals to share family style or single diners. Next time, we will try Hot and Sour soup or a chicken dish. read more

We ate at Chef Chang's Chinese restaurant for lunch. It's what you would expect at your typical Chinese restaurant. They have a lunch menu option that lets you pick three dishes, which was nice to try a variety of items. I'm big on Chinese food as I came from Northern California Bay Area. Dim sum every weekend baby! Currently weekly Dim Sum in Las Vegas Chinatown area. But hey, Chef Cheng's does not disappoint. They are actually from San Francisco Francisco area so they do have special dim sum on their daily specials . I ordered their black pepper shrimp and wanted the head on it but that's a work in progress lol they are string beans. I added chicken and black bean sauce. Absolutely delicious guys, don't pass them. Up Their soups are really good too. . read more

Chinese in Elko? Yes, this place may not look like much from the outside but don't let that fool you. The inside vibe it is Chinese Shabby Chic with a green thumb! And the food was delicious, the pork fried rice, spicy honey chicken and the shrimp dumplings were plenty for the daughter and I, we even had leftovers. The service was excellent too! The staff all seemed to work great together and made us feel welcome and taken care of. If we are ever in that neck of the woods again, we'll be back for more! read more

Disappointed. Serving size for 3 person dinner were fine but quality not so much. "Ham" fried rice? First time in a Chinese restaurant for me and very bland. Chow mein was very greasy. Sweet and sour pork actually had a piece of green bell pepper and 3 pieces of pineapple in it. Pork was tiny wrapped in a ball of dough and overcooked. Very chewy. We ordered tea believing we would get Oolong tea in a pot served with the standard little cups. Nope, big cup with a tea bag floating in it of black tea. No Oolong tea available. For the quality and price I would save your money and go elsewhere. read more

Well, this was Very disappointing. I don't usually write bad reviews, but I did this time. For years when we lived here in NV., we held 'Chef Cheng' as the standard by which we would judge all other Chinese food, wherever we would travel. Last night, we ordered several dishes ( for 4 people, and totaled over $100 ). Not only was I surprised by their raised prices since we last visited about a year ago, but the food most definitely was not up to their old standard. Bland, did not seem fresh- just poor. They used to have the Best hot sour soup. Not anymore. In fact, it did not taste remotely the same as it used to. Where was the "tangy" flavor. Just blah.. New chefs? Disappointing, for sure. We won't be going back during our visit here. read more

Real Chinese Tea, Chinese staff & some good authentic options. I walked in & the smell reminded me of my own Chinese greasy spoon from home. Ambiancew good & hard working staff. Food was 4/5 and light on the meat. Came out hot & fast. They have vegan options FYI. Pleasant surprise for Elko. read more

Day before yesterday is the day I discovered that Chef Chengs is open on Christmas!!! My boyfriend and I were 'Christmas Orphans' this year and we wanted good food Christmas night. With McDonald's or ramen at home our only options, I was absolutely ecstatic to see Cheng's was open! I called ahead of time to double check if they were (because sometimes google lies lol) and they were so nice and asked me if I needed to make reservations. It's good to know they take reservations even though we didn't need one. The restaurant was not busy and we were sat immediately. We decided to share some Crab Rangoons, Shrimp Chow Mein and a Beef and Scallop Sizzling Plate with White Rice and Egg Drop Soup. Everything came out super quickly and soon we were feasting on our Christmas Dinner. It was fresh and amazing. It just reminds me again why Chef Chengs is my favorite Chinese food in Elko. Amazing service, amazing food and now adding "open on Christmas" to that list. read more

Excellent food and amazing service. Always a great time when we go there to eat. Will definitely bring going back soon.

The service was bad it took like 1 hr and 15 min just to get on plate of food. Was it packed full yes but 1hr and 15 min that is just one plate of food come on man not cool.! read more

Kind of disappointing. I spent $50 dollars for what seemed like two noodles one shrimp and one piece of steak and one piece of chicken. And then they only gave me 4 crab ragoons which is enough to make a grown man cry. The chicken teriyaki was really good though. Noodles are BLAND. Had to scrape for dear life for the teriyaki sauce from the bottom of the to go plate from the teriyaki chicken. If i could give -5 stars i would. read more

Friendly family place. Range of food from rice, noodles, wontons to main courses of meat , chicken, seafood. Sweet and sour has too much sugar for me. Loved the Hunan beef. Lots of chicken dishes. It all looks good. We enjoyed dinner. Great spices and sauces. Parking in back. Fast service, fresh made to order. We will be back read more

Great food and great service. Especially loved the chow mien. The staff was so very attentive

Got the Mongolian beef and tasted like I was eating a cigarette don't know if that's normal here but the ham fried rice was good

Thursday to-go order for five. The family love Chef Cheng orange peel chicken, with its gooey, sweet sauce over fried chicken pieces. We also ordered shrimp chow mein, which the kids devoured. Was surprised when I ordered egg rolls, because they're called spring rolls on the menu. These spring rolls are different than what I'm used to and have a dumpling-like wrapping with a vegetable mix inside. At any rate, all the family were happy with the food. read more

I fled to Elko to escape the smoke in Reno from the summer fires and was craving Chinese. Stopped here to pick-up food to take back to the hotel. The staff was super nice and friendly. We showed up close to closing time and they gave us free egg drop soup. The food tasted fresh and good but that's about it. There really wasn't any flavor to the food. I didn't order too much, only fried rice, chicken chow main, and the free egg drop soup. So, other dishes may be more flavorful but what I had tasted good but again, just no flavor. read more

Loved their schezuan chicken entree. It had the perfect texture and spice level and we also ordered their house special chowmein (it has shrimp meat and veggies). The total $25 was including taxes. I struggled with this review. Honestly, the food was probably the best Chinese food I've ever had. Like really, really good! Such a surprise in Elko! But the service was absolutely horrendous. So I had to deduct some points away from the 5-star food. We went on a Sunday night and it wasn't particularly busy in the restaurant. We were seated right away. And then the worst service of our lives ensued. We ordered two beers (one Modelo and one Sapporo) from our server while we were looking at the menu. And then waited. And waited. And waited. Finally after about 15 minutes was able to flag her down to ask where our drinks were and she said she wasn't old enough to order them. Um, what? Then why did you take our order? Why are you even a server there? We did place our food order with her and she said she would have someone else bring our drinks. After another 10 minute wait, a woman came over who I'm assuming was the owner. She was running and very stressed out and said said they were out of Sapporo and then left! We tried to flag her down again it she was running around the restaurant in an absolute frenzy yelling at the kitchen and just seemed to be in a panic. Maybe they had a lot of to go orders because we couldn't figure out why she was stressed out. Finally 40 minutes after arriving, the owner came back and said rudely what do we want to drink. My husband was so angry he said just forget his beer and bring me my Modelo. 10 minutes later she came back and said they were out of Modelo! Is this a joke? I asked her what they actually have in stock and settled on a bud light. . Took another 10 minutes to get it! Finally after waiting over one hour in a relatively empty restaurant with this panicked woman running around, we received our food. But it came out one dish at a time. With a lot of time between dishes. A lot of time. All in all we spent two hours there for what we thought would be some quick Chinese food. When our bill FINALLY came after we had asked twice for it, it had a Modelo, Sapporo AND bud light on it! The hits just kept coming! You can imagine how long it took to get that handled. Terrible service but honestly, the food was great. Maybe try to order it to go so you don't have to experience the restaurant itself. read more

Good food, very good service. Our meal took forever to come out because I got the seafood tofu in clay pot which was bland and boring. My wife got General Tso's chicken. We also got kim-chi. However, I wasn't told that it would take an extra 30 minutes to prepare my meal. Maybe let the guest know this when they order??? We went in for lunch, got two meals, two drinks, and an appetizer. $62 for all. Chinese food used to be affordable. read more

We ordered many different dishes. One person like his entree; the rest of us felt the food just tasted ok. We were surprised to find that rice didn't come with the entrees as part of the order - so order rice if you like rice with your entree Also, no fortune cookies were in the order - so.... Once again if you like the fun of fortune cookies - be sure to order. read more

Quick lunch stop at Elko on my road trip back to the Bay. Our order: house special fried rice, mapo tofu and dry braised green beans. What a hidden gem! I didn't exactly anticipate authentic Chinese food in the middle of Nevada, but happy I stumbled upon Chef Cheng's restaurant. All dishes were well seasoned and cooked to perfection, and the portions were big enough for seconds. Service was prompt, efficient and attentive. There were multiple servers on standby and all very friendly. The foam in the couches/seats/booths might need some attention though, I sunk right in when I sat down. I would definitely eat here again if I happen to be in Elko in the future. read more

It was about 8:30 pm 8:45 pm. Just got off work.. I am in Elko filling in at local pharmacy. I stopped here for some to go food because I just wanted to go back to my room to relax. I ordered one of the dinner combo meals-fried rice with ham, fried shrimp, and sweet and sour pork. It can with your choice of egg flower soup or hot and sour soup...unfortunately they only has the hot and sour soup.I asked if I could get an egg roll to substitute since I didn't want hot and sour soup..the clerk asked one of the other workers and she told me she couldn't substitute...I was disappointed! But I really didn't need it... They gave so much food in the box I got. The food was fresh and very tasty. The workers were not really friendly. I didn't get a welcoming feel when I walked in the door. The To go menus on the counter were outdated, and the prices were wrong. They had a surplus.. They should just recycle them and get new ones. Silly to have outdated menus with incorrect prices. read more

Was traveling through and stopped at this restaurant. I did not expect to find some of the best Chinese food I ever tasted. It was fantastic. Don't let the old building keep you from this experience. They are very busy ( now I know why). So you have to wait a little. Relax take a seat. The place is very clean looking! Friendly staff, smiles even when they are working hard to keep up with the demand. I ordered pork chow neon (soft noodles), sweet and sour chicken, pot stickers and some white rice. Huge portions. Too much for two people. It was all fantastic!! I will return!! read more

$13 after tax for the lunch special but it's a lot of food, enough to split into at least the bulk of a second meal, or share with somebody with maybe a side added on. You pick 3 entrees Panda Express style, but there are no steam trays, everything is cooked to order. Takes a little longer but it's a step up in quality. With that you get a small soup (egg drop or hot n sour) and egg roll. No rice with the lunch special (I think you can add it for a couple bucks), but chicken or veg chow mein is an option to get noodles in the mix there. Didn't try the dinners (expect to go up closer to $20 for those) but the place seems very popular. read more

Visiting the area, placed an order and it was fast and fresh. It was easy to find and parking was easy.

I was visiting Elko with a group of friends from California and Denver and WOW we were impressed. I'm a snob about Chinese food and didn't expect much for Asian food in elko but I was so wrong. We liked Chef Chengs so much we actually went two nights in a row! The first night we ordered different dinner combos, egg flower soup, the specialty buns, mushu veggies, and veggie chow mein. It might be the best egg flower soup I've ever had. Night two we ordered another dinner combo, pho, more egg flower (of course) and the bok choy with mushrooms and it was all delicious!! The service was good and the staff were all so kind. It's so great to know Chef Chengs is there for the next time I stop through Elko. Cannot recommend enough! read more

Low quality food and very greasy. We ordered three entrees and two appetizers and left it all there.

This is LITERALLY THE BEST CHINESE RESTAURANT IN ELKO! my mom has the pho I had the fried prawns and egg flower soup. The staff is very friendly and the food is always good, never had a bad meal coming from them

The food is ok but the noodles were very oily and the rice was very dry. The pork buns my daughter ordered came out cold in the middle (and their menu said they were 4 and 2, but she only got 2 and 2... when wasted about it and mentioned that being deceiving they asked if we wanted to order more rather then fix the problem). The Mongolian beef was also not tasty at all and the service was honestly the worst part. Pretty sure there was only 1 other table in the restaurant.. so why were they so bad? The lack of manners and courteousness were hard to deal with. They also had to be flagged down for refills. We aren't picky people but thus restaurant was just hard-core lacking. read more
