Not at all impressed today. Ordered an omelette and I wanted a different type of cheese. Waitress refused to sub the cheese and instead charged me an extra $2 because she said I had to purchase the byo omelette. It's not about the money it's principle. It's such a joke. Then the home fries tasted like eating a salt brick. The waitress didn't come back to do a check after she got someone else to deliver the food. I couldn't get a glass of water. This place has just completely gone down hill. I recommend anyone wanting to substitute items in the omelette just do build your own and take the difference out of the tip. This has become a favorite in Brandon. I've been there several times since. The service is impeccable. They are on their A game. We got our order in. I don't recall what I got but was definitely good. Lots of great choices if you're into having a big breakfast. The coffee is on point and cups refilled almost continuously. The place has a lot of open seating. And there's usually a big crowd. I would advise you to get there early before the rush. I really hate saying this but can be a bit pricey. Tried out Himes Breakfast House today! Didn't have to wait long for a table which was nice! Classic diner style restaurant, southern type cooking. They have mostly breakfast items but some lunch items as well. Our table had the Shrimp and Grits, chicken pot pie, Jesse Bowl, country fried steak and the Lumberjack bowl. They do offer mimosas too, which we got some strawberry ones! I personally thought the Chicken Pot Pie had way too much rosemary, that's all I could taste. There was one that tasted like coffee another that tasted like lemon curd and then just a regular syrup. I think that was the highlight of my meal when it comes to service when we were sitting. Nice menu with choices but not overwhelming. Servers were friendly and quick to serve and refill drinks. We got Good morning French Toast, Bougie Bennie, Lumberjack Bowl and an Omelette. Coffee to drink. Bougie Bennie was a hit. Poached eggs on top of thick cut ham on a waffle. A great twist on Benedict. Very tasty and filling. The honey Dijon hollandaise was a great compliment to the dish. Everything worked well together. With a side of home fries that were perfectly cooked and crispy. 10/10. We've had this spot on our list for a while! I knew I wanted to try a bunch of things off the menu so that's what we did! Carb load alert! We ordered 1 pancake, 1 Belgian waffle, 1 French toast, the catfish breakfast with home fries and scrambled eggs, a side of loaded grits and a side of bacon. Our server was awesome and even made recommendations for our next visit! The pancake and French toast were delicious. The waffle was a little too sweet for me even with no syrup. The catfish was delish until we got to the middle and realized it wasn't all the way quite cooked through. Our server was apologetic and removed it from the bill. It was packed when we first arrived, but the wait wasn't too long at about 5 mins, but I can definitely see why the folks were there. So, this is HBH's second local location. The other is in south Tampa and I've been there, too. This one is along SR 60 in Brandon-in the old Jimmy Hula's location, just west of the Lithia Pinecrest intersection. It's been painted and spruced up, in the same gray, white, orange and blue color scheme as the original. I wandered in on a Tuesday morning and was seated right away. It wasn't crowded right then, but it was busy. I agree with the others-it has a "modern diner" feel to it. It's sunny, fresh and warm, thanks to the cheerful staff and all the natural light. My server-Haven, I believe-was extremely nice and attentive. She was as pleasant as the surroundings I couldn't have been happier. They have an extensive breakfast lineup (I'm trying the lemon ricotta pancakes next time) and a lunch menu as well. I also spotted mimosas on the menu-and I believe they do brunch on the weekends. There's ample parking (look around the corner-there's more than meets the eye, when you first turn in) and lots of tables. Bravo, Himes! Stopped in for brunch on a late Friday morning and we were greeted and seated immediately! There's a parking lot connected to the building so no trouble there. The atmosphere is like an upscale diner, with welcoming faces all around. Super cute and a great breakfast/brunch vibe! Our waitress was super helpful and gave us some recommendations for what to try (she loves the red pepper hollandaise!). I ended up going with the Himes BLT but swapped the chorizo bacon for regular bacon. I loved it, especially the twist of the fried green tomatoes! The fries were delicious and perfectly crispy. And the garlic aioli had pieces of roasted garlic inside....so good. We also got the Grilled Gouda, which my friend loved, as well as 2 Eggs with Pork Belly, Home Fries, and Toast. They loved the pork belly in both of those dishes, not something you usually see at a diner! My other friend loved her Sogs and Nogs omelet with the red pepper hollandaise as recommended by our waitress! We tried a Pancake as well but it was nothing to write home about it. The service was on point. The food was absolutely out of this world. Our waitress event gave some history on this establishment. This is a true local mom and Pop restaurant. The first location opened up in 2022 on the Himes Ave (hence the name). The owners are the same people who opened the beloved shells, which is located all over the Tampa Bay area. I can honestly say all the food was fresh and made to order. The coffee was strong and delicious. I recommend the pork belly Benny. It was something different and very tasty. Overall a great experience. The restaurant itself is setup like a traditional mom and pop restaurant. In that respect, it feels like the kind of place you can make your regular go to spot. The food was delicious and you can tell that it's not some generic big corporate breakfast/lunch place. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable of the menu, never had us want for anything and offered honest suggestions on what she liked. Not just trying to drive a special. Very personable. You could tell the place was well managed. The manager, Steve, walked around asking about our experience but you could see him leading from the trenches doing what needed doing. Tried it out for breakfast on a Saturday morning, and only waited about 10 minutes which was great! There was definitely a longer waitlist as we were leaving. Our waitress Kaylee was super friendly and attentive! TLDR: Overall would go back again to try other menu items. The food we have mostly positive, but mixed feelings... the Banana Split Waffles were INCREDIBLY sweet, and I have a big sweet tooth. The whipped cream that was on top of them was delicious, clearly homemade and thick. I also got a side of bacon, nice and thick cut, sugar cured so also was sweet but just that right about of sweet and salty to be perfect. Florida Man Omelet was good, the sausage inside of that was more like a kielbasa style sausage rather than a traditional breakfast sausage. The other toppings inside were plentiful and tasty. Strawberry Fields salad was "OMG delicious". Everything was incredibly fresh and crisp. We asked for the dressing on the side because we find that some raspberry vinaigrettes can be hit or miss.
