Was looking forward to eating at Freds Market it has been years. The seating was fast and the waitress was friendly and good. It was on Sunday it is very busy. I enjoy their country cooking but, the chicken had a funny taste and was the dryest I have ever had. The catfish was extremely good. The buffet was full of veggies, their signature dishes. Some looked over cooked, considering it was only 12:30 p.m. When I got to the car I asked my husband much the bill was. It came to $56.00 tip included with one drink. The charge was $22.99 a dinner not including drink. I was in shock. It was around $15.99 the last time we ate there. I can have a steak dinner at a nice restaurant for $24. I finally went to Fred's for breakfast after always hearing people talk about it. My friend and I went one Friday morning and they just so happened to be having a Friday special. The breakfast was good and they had a nice variety of options. Of course I stuck with the things I normally eat and everything was pretty good. Nothing was extremely amazing except for the potatoes! Those potatoes were PERFECT. I wish I could eat them every day for breakfast! And I can't forget the sweet tea! I'm a sucker for a good homemade sweet tea and theirs definitely hit the spot. Of course I had to get one to go too! The decor was also really cool with the vintage theme. It was kind of nostalgic seeing a buffet since those have been out of style for so long. I also really appreciated the glove station they have for when you're going through the buffet. The food here is so good came here for dinner and I stg it's like even the rutabagas are like crack (jk jk). Hospitable service, too. They have a rotating dinner buffet menu for only $23 per person that includes a salad bar and dessert bar for before and after your many entrees. The service was friendly and great, our drinks were never empty and many napkins provided. The ambiance is that of a southern home and also super clean buffet and restrooms. Food smashed into the dirty carpet, menus smeared with grease, slimy handprints on every glass and plastic surface. Is the place cleaned by toddlers?! If the missed health standards aren't enough to deter people (wish I'd read those beforehand), the layers of grime should be a red flag. If that's what customers are seeing, imagine the kitchen. Also, the food was bad. Like everything. Grisly gnarled chicken, inedible, dry cornbread, and nasty mac and cheese. I didn't try anything else because it was so gross. My family members also hated their food. Staff waited until the last minute to refill things as it seemed like someone is opting to cut some sharp corners. Again, I felt bad for everyone working there. It seemed busy enough to turn a profit, yet there was something depressing about the vibe. I came here last year with my dad, and it wasn't like this, so it was disappointing. We were relieved to get out for under $100, but it was just nightmare fuel. Not worth it. Nicely laid out and the server was great informing us of the cost and tracking our plates. The buffet has lots to offer but it's a narrow passage full of people eyeing and trying to fill their plates. First of all right when you open the door, it smells like sanitation issues or like the carpet and floor is old and stinky. That's the smell it gives so from the jump not very appetizing. I think it's a little overpriced most of the meat that was available was dry collard greens, and sides of that nature were watered down no taste. Mac & cheese super overcooked a pile of mush. I love their signs desserts is stressed spelled backwards. Brilliant. Their breakfast brunch only $13.49 and quickly changes to $22.99 dinner at 11:15 so make sure to leave prior. Dessert only served at dinner time. Best brownie and vanilla ice cream to finish the meal. I enjoyed the fried chicken and catfish. The breading was flaky and not too oily. Still the best buffet I've ever been to. Sunday afternoon had about a 15 minute wait. Our server Steven was really nice and took plates away instantly. All the food was absolutely fantastic, none of it seem like it was made for a buffet. All the hot stuff was piping, hot, and fresh. All the cold stuff was chilled perfectly. Can't really list any favorites because there was 12 things that I could say was the best I've ever had (fried chicken, turkey stew, skillet cornbread, sweet potato casserole, corn casserole, Italian cream cake - just to name a few) I tried about every hot item but 5, hit up several of the cold salad bar items, and then tried six desserts. Great selection of options to get your protein in, the food feel heavy, but it's definitely a lot of calories for the deliciousness. I had the Italian cake for The dessert selection and it was fluffy and delicious. Definitely would come again, but try to aim for off hours, so that there's not so much of a wait. The only issue is my partner did not like high calorie food, so they ordered one plate option. However, when the bill came, we were charged for full service for both of us. We had the waitress adjust, that was a minor inconvenience and wait. This is a great buffet of Southern Food and the restaurant staff are pros. If you are dining on Sunday, plan on a 45 minute wait. I have been eating at different Fred's locations for years. I arrived and there were a lot of people waiting on benches inside and outside the restaurant. I gave them my name and then went to gas up my car. When I returned my name was next up on the waitlist. They have a nice handwashing station right by the door. I was seated and I noticed there were empty tables even though there is a wait. The front of the house paces seating so you are not elbow to elbow at the buffet and the chefs can keep selections full and fresh. Their southern fried chicken is a staple on their buffet. Dinner entrees rotate on certain days. Sundays they have a kettle of pot roast and vegetables. Pork ribs are available after 5 PM on Sundays. They have a nice little salad bar and plenty of southern style sides. The dessert bar is staffed and my peach cobbler was scooped out hot by a host. I guess you can add ice cream but I went with two desserts. I love the nice touches like their heritage Johnson family bbq sauce and your choice of bread from corn muffins, corn bread or biscuits. It is nice that you can purchase a single plate or unlimited buffet. Sometimes you don't want to stuff your self. I like that my server greeted me promptly and filled my drinks and cleared plates without any effort on my part. We pulled up to a huge parking lot full of cars and families waiting to get in satisfy their palates. A plethora of meats and veggies Our server kept our cups till they almost ran over the buffet tables were kept full with pots of culinary goodness My grandsons comments on the Mac and cheese were it didn't really have any taste and the ribs were average the vegetables were OK catfish was really good the fried chicken was good the sweet potato souffle was good I enjoyed the corn muffins and the corn bread was reminiscent of old fashion pan goodness if that's your thing! The ambience had the feel of church just letting out and all the families gathered before stating their work week. Hidden gems creole shrimp and chicken, pot roast the meat appeared to be fished out so I had rice and gravy and vegetables, which the gravy was a little salty the lima beans were a little salty as well I tried the ribs which were OK naked but to.me the hidden star was the sweet potatoe souffle with praline and spice deliciousness.
