I truly hope they had an amazing week and gain tons of returning customers because Himalayan went above and beyond. The four of us had Wednesday noon reservations, and I'm so glad we did as nearly every table was full. We ordered the Restaurant Week pre-fixe menu for 4. We started with lentil soup. Light, flavorful, and with a wonderful texture. Next came the pakora appetizers (so tasty!) served with chutneys. Perfectly crispy without being greasy. Next was an unexpected gorgeous salad topped with fresh strawberries, dried cherries, and a bright mango dressing. The mains included: Chicken Tikka Masala Chana Muter Aloo Gobi (vegetable curry) Rice Plain naan Every bite was delicious. I'm a big fan of chana, so that was my personal "main," and it did not disappoint. The only small note -- there were maybe six pieces of chicken in the tikka masala, which didn't quite feel like enough for four. That said, it worked out fine for our group. What a wonderful dinner I just had at Himalayan. Located right off the Town Square in Windsor, this Indian restaurant was warm and cozy on a chilly December night. At 4:30, when they open for dinner, a line had already formed to snag a table. The staff were very pleasant as they got everyone seated. The menu had a plethora of vegetarian and vegan dishes. For dinner, they start you off with a small cup of their lentil dal soup, which was much appreciated and a nice touch. I ordered the Aloo Gobi with brown rice (rice comes with each entree and no up charge for brown rice.) We also got garlic basil naan, which was a large portion for $5.99. Literally JUST told someone outside the door of this restaurant "this is the crown jewel of Windsor". On my way in to pick up takeout a couple was trying to figure where this delicious scent was coming from. They were heartbroken to find out it's their lunch hour right now but are so motivated they said they're going to come back after (if you want to know how delicious this food is). I've been going here for years. The quality is consistently excellent. The price point is so favorable. The portions are hefty. It is always so clean. The customer service is amazing. I tell people if you're only able to go to one restaurant in Sonoma county, this would be it. They also have vegan and vegetarian options and are very accommodating. Do yourself a favor instead of spending $15 on fast food, spend $15 on a savory lunch combo here. It's not just more delicious. It's healthier for you. Was in the area on a weeknight later in the evening and Himalayan was one of the only open restaurants. Just about everything was delicious. Ordered Garlic Naan, Gobi Manchurian, Fish Pakora, and Chicken Tikka Masala. The star of the show was the Lamb shank curry. Super tender, not gamey, and the curry itself had a lot of flavor. This was a fun find for our trip to Napa/Sonoma and I'm so glad that we made the decision to have dinner here. Thankfully we made a reservation for our group of 6 and did not have to wait very long to be seated! Staff were all incredibly friendly and made us feel immediately at home and cozy. They had valentines special on the menu but service was extremely slow and our requests and order were not met, including having to request for baby high chair three times. The food came out so slowly that we had to get more than half of our order to go. Enjoyed the lentil soup, and samosa, cheese naan, chicken vindaloo most. Momo, salad with crispy rice and avocado, garlic naan, and cinnamon naan were decent. Chicken tikka masala was okay, mixed kebab was okay- chicken was average, I'm not a huge fan of lamb, and salmon was tender. Overall, good food and good portion for the price. I understand it was a very busy evening, but I hope in the future they prepare ahead of time especially if they offer something like a valentines special on the menu because it felt like we spent two hours in the restaurant with less than half our food that came out during our dine in experience. read more

SCW and I stopped into Himalayan for lunch. I looked at the reviews on Yelp and figured we needed to give them a try. I'm glad we did. We parked in front of the restaurant on the street which was convenient however I could see this being a difficulty during season. There are a few lots around that seem to help with that. We were warmly greeted and quickly seated. The interior is very relaxing with decor from the Himalayas which makes it very relaxing. We quickly got our menus and found they have an extensive plant based menu. Awesome! We ordered some vegetable samosas to start with which when they came out there were three chutneys to use. All were incredible however the mango chutney was my favorite. The vegetable samosas were incredible. Tons of flavor and baked to perfection. The filling was delicious and the chutneys made each bite unique. I ordered the Tofu Saag Vegan, SCW had the Chana Masala Vegan. We also ordered garlic naan and our meals came with rice. Our mains came out a little after we finished our samosas. Prior to our samosas we were given a lentil soup which was very good. The Tofu Saag (ordered 4 star spice level out of 5) was incredibly fresh, flavorful and cooked to perfection. The herbs and spices were well incorporated and complimentary. With the rice and garlic naan I was very happy with the meal. Incredibly flavorful and delicious. SCW liked her Chana Masala vegan (ordered 2 star out of 5) however she found it a little too spicy for her liking. Not knocking the dish at all just her preference is for a little less heat. The service here was incredible. I found everyone very kind, helpful and attentive. Our water glasses never got low and the pace of service was just right. Not bringing everything out at once but soup, then appetizers, then mains. I didn't feel rushed at all. The dining area is nice and clean. Shakespeare once said, "Comparisons are odious." So I'm guilty as charged on this review. Our Glen Ellen, CA hometown favorite is Yeti. And it is heads and shoulders above the Himalayan. Which is not to say the Himalayan is bad, quite the contrary. They are well meaning and hard working with a nice ambiance and very good food. The hot set-up there are the express lunch specials for around $18. I would suggest you go for lunch, split one special, and then order one more dish of your pleasure. Their brown rice excels. They haven't quite figured out the way to braise lamb and goat until it is tender. I also found the curries a little too thick. The medium spice is just right if you are 'normal' about piquante. It's better than mild. So order as above for lunch and have a nice walk around town and the green. You won't regret it. read more

Himalayan Restaurant is just great. We love real Indian food and the chef serves that. It is just perfect. They only use fresh herbs and spices that are used in traditional Indian food. They even got an award for Best Indian Restaurant of Sonoma County by the Press Democrat. They specialize in kabobs, tandoors and curries. They also have the best soups. Many of their items are vegetarian, vegan or gluten free. I don't care but I know a lot of people do. The place is ever so cute and very clean. You feel at home and that is what they want for you. The service is so very wonderful and they will help you with the menu. We had curry dishes that were out of this world good and two order of garlic nann. I should have taken some with me. The tandoori chicken breast cooked in spices with the best mild creamy sauce was a real favorite. Their organic tofu tikki, which are fried tofu & garbanzo patties crumbed with beaten rice was amazing. I did not expect to like it at all, tofu is just not my favorite thing, but it was so good. Second time visiting Himalayan and it was just as good as I remember! Hubby and I shared the chicken korma, rack of lamb, and their garlic basil naan. They were also so kind to give us each a complimentary bowl of dal. Their korma is seriously some of the best I've ever had. The sauce is so flavorful!! I love the golden raisins and softened nuts they keep in the sauce - most places blend those into it completely. The lamb was heavenly. It came with 3 bone-in chops that were cooked in their tandoori oven. It was so tender and full of flavor. It was served with vegetables (a bit overcooked) and some kind of kale puree which was interesting. I'll be thinking about that lamb for days!! The service was super nice and attentive. They even brought us warm, damp towels for our hands before the meal began. I thought that was a really nice touch. The restaurant is small but stayed relatively quiet and they have nice decor. My friend and I visit this restaurant every few months... And it has never failed to be a five star experience. Sometimes we have to wait in line a bit, but it's well worth it and the service is absolutely excellent! We each started with had a different salad; I had a quinoa salad, and my friend had a tomato salad. Both salad portions were very generous and excellent. Our meals were beautifully prepared, succulent, and perfectly spiced. The ambience here is friendly, comfortable and clean, with lots of Nepalese artwork to look at while you wait. There is one very large bathroom that has an abundance of toilet paper on a rack, so you never feel a sense of TP scarcity lol. Parking can be a bit tricky on Friday night/ weekends. One tip is to park in the lot behind the tiny lot adjacent to the restaurant. You'll have to go around the block to do it, but there is more parking there. Update 3: Still an easy place to stop by for pickup. Grabbed a couple of quick things since we had a working lunch going on. Food comes out quick, and the waitstaff have always been personable and easy to interact with. To try new things, I had gotten the Avocado Bhel and the Pani Puri balls since it had been a while. The avocado bhel was interesting. I liked the freshness of it and the ingredients. The puffed rice added a nice crunch and change in textures with each bite. I liked having the sauces on the side to play around with the flavors since it could use some oomph on that end. The Pani Puri balls were interesting, almost like singular bite samosas by flavor and design. I'm a little disappointed about the recommendations I received from our server. We were given a complimentary small soup which was fine. Our server recommended the samosas and as a main entree the chicken tikka masala. I was really hoping that something more adventurous. It seemed the staff who were foreigners played it really conservative. The samosas were good with the three small dipping sauces that accompanied it. The chicken tikka masala sauce had good flavor but the chicken was overcooked in my opinion. Also there wasn't anything else in the sauce besides chicken. I realize different cultures make this differently but it just seemed a little boring. The staff was attentive and the place was clean. There was this annoying sound in the background that reminded me of some movie that had some noise generated by some time travel machine. This place is excellent! The rack of lamb was so delicious as was the saffron rice. The veggies were way overcooked and mushy. They kale was okay, kind of bitter. I would have preferred spinach.
