Very solid Indian food! Great flavors, and tender meat.

Friendly staff, clean place - but, lunch prices are HIGH. Stir fried veggies over rice + 2-3 slices of naan + cup of tea = $30!

We tried this Indian restaurant a couple of days ago. The food was terrific. Being of Indian descent, I am pretty particular about the food. Most of the Indian restaurants in San Rafael I consider to be mediocre. However, we were pleasantly surprised by this new restaurant. We ordered a variety of items so that we could judge the quality of the offerings. To start with Kale Pakoras which was an unusual item but we found the pakoras to be quite good. Perhaps the batter was a trifle heavy. For the main course we ordered Bengam Bertha which was delicious, the Chicken Tikka Masala which was quite thick and tasty and the Lamb Curry which was rich and the meat tender. We has the garlic nan an basmati rice as well. The nan was delicious. We certainly enjoyed our "take home" meal" and have every intention of going back regularly. read more

Tried this place on a whim the other day. Excellent Shrimp Tikka Masala, garlic naan, and Rasmalai.

Wonderful atmosphere. Delicious dahl, exquisite eggplant/chicken curry. Lovely owners.

I used to eat dinner here every Friday and the food and the service were amazing. I was very upset to find out that this is now under new management. Tried takeout, looking for a new Indian restaurant after a few bad experiences at our go to spot. Ordered many dishes and not one was good. One was inedible - the lamb kabob was hard and tasteless (~$25) and went straight to the trash. Avoid this spot. Really, really bad! read more

I came here today with no intention of actually eating here originally - I meant to have lunch next door - but boy was this place good!! I was pleasantly surprised. On Saturday me and my family decided to go on a picnic. It was just planned out of no where and we all packed the stuff and left home. My cousins were bringing chicken so I had told them that I'll bring like salad or something, we were going to mcnears beach and I do remember seeing wholes food there and thought I would be able to grab something from there. When I reached I was disappointed because there was nothing there that I could take, without wasting time I decided to go across the street to trader Joe's hoping to find something there, while walking towards the store, I saw a sandwich place beside trader Joe's and I was like okay maybe I can get something from here of I can't find anything at trader Joe's. So guess what? I had no luck at trader Joe's so we decided to grab sandwiches and while walking to the sandwich place our eyes went to masala kitchen, we just wanted to go check that place, and now all of a sudden we wanted indian food. I did want some biryani, but my problem is that we cook indian food at home every day and some of this indian restaurant I go to I don't like their food because I feel I can do better at home, so I become very hesitant to getting indian food. But my family really wanted biryani so there we stood ordering some. I told them guy that we wanted to order a party tray and he called someone who I believe must be the owner. He helped us with what tray size we want, and we got the smaller ones which was perfect for a family of ten. The person was super nice In explaining and I really appreciate that. Before I move my story to the taste test lemme just tell you guys, the restaurant was super clean, and I loved how they have a covered outdoor space as well. Okay so taste test, I just say the biryani was super yummy and if you guys want to taste that home made biryani this place is where you should go. The perfect blend of everything. Great food... stingy portions. I want to be encouraging to this new restaurant, but here is the issue... if you are going to charge more than your competitors, not only does the food need to be awesome, which it is... the portion sizes you send out on delivery need to be competitive too. We are not greedy, but c'mon... check out your competition. We may order again for the quality, but be annoyed we have to spend more to get a decently portioned dinner. read more

Looking for a nearby lunch place, we happened upon Masala Kitchen, and my client and I both ordered the chicken tikka masala lunch combo. We have ordered take away from here 4 times since it opened in December. The food is always piping hot, super fresh, and absolutely delicious. Everyone is so pleasant, and you can tell they take such pride in the food they cook and serve. They are truly just happy to be here in Marin [they have a second restaurant in Pinole], and we are so happy to have them! We've ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, the Baigan Bharta, Palak Paneer, Veggie Korma, Chicken Curry, and Cheese Naan. All dishes were wonderful, but the Masala and Bharta really stood out as some of the best we have had in Marin. read more

This place is pretty close to where I live, and I love Indian food, so I was happy to try it, and was not disappointed. I had the lunch special for take-out. I got a generous helping of chicken masala, lentils, rice, naan and salad for only $15, so a great value. Everything was super delicious. This new restaurant has exceeded my expectations. We ordered two dishes to be delivered, Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb curry. The experience of the first whiff of the rich and floral aromas instantly transported me back to my time in India, specifically Rajastan, where I had the best food of my life. This is no easy feat as I'm very critical of most North India cuisine that doesn't come close to the real thing. This is as close as I've had in the Bay Area. My one issue with the delivered meal was the use of plastic containers for the hot food... this is Marin, after all and it would be nice to see them use compostable paper containers. read more

Such a pleasant surprise! I was planning to get sushi next door but it was closed. And honestly, I could not resist going in when I caught a whiff of the incredible fragrance of the spices drifting past Trader Joe's. I was not let down in the slightest! The food was fresh, piping hot and perfectly seasoned. The naan was perfection. The service was quick and friendly. And did I mention CLEAN? This place was so clean and the man helping us was masked, he wiped my card and the pen I used with sani-wipes and there was purell sitting there for me to clean my hands. Of course we can't eat indoors right now but there are public tables spaced far from each other outside and he also gave me a wipe to clean one down. Fantastic experience overall.
